I took this IKEA for granted. When I was an undergrad and grad student decades ago, I'd always come here and got all my household essentials for my dorm and apartment. I never realized how nice this store is compared to the San Diego store until recently. My husband and I were in Orange County this past weekend and on a whim I told my husband I wanted to go to IKEA to get some ideas for shelving in our guestroom. What I love about this store is that it has its own parking lot; unlike San Diego where it needs to share parking with Lowe's and Costco, IKEA Costa Mesa has its own plot of land that isn't shared by any other store. Not only that, but everything is really well organized and despite the number of people in the store (basing this off how full the parking lot is), it doesn't feel crowded in this store. I feel like I can breathe here and not have to worry about being behind a slow couple or bumping into kids. The checkout area is busy but there are lanes with cashiers and self-check out. We were out the door in about an hour. read more

I stopped by IKEA to pick up a table and, like always, ended up leaving with a lot more than I planned! It's hard to walk through the store without finding something you want. They have a huge selection for just about every area of the home, including the bedroom, office, bathroom, living room, storage, laundry organization, and even a food market. The only issue I had was that my IKEA Family rewards membership number was no longer valid, so I had to register for a new account. The employee at self-checkout was friendly, she offered to help scan my items, which I appreciated. Overall, IKEA is a great place if you're looking for affordable home furnishings and organization products. Just be prepared--you'll probably leave with more than what you came in for! read more

This review is for the returns and exchanges area. There is always a long wait here even if there are only two people ahead of you who is currently being helped. I'm not sure if it's the computer system or the people or both, but something is super inefficient here and it takes on average at least 10 minutes per customer. I dread having to return anything at this IKEA because I know the wait is long. If there are a bunch of people here ahead of you, good luck because it's going to be a long one. read more

What an overwhelming place to shop. You will get your steps in for sure. Elevator and stair access to varied levels. They have areas designated such as chairs, closets, dining room, bedroom, kitchen, bedding, canisters, etc. There are displays that are assembled and coordinated for you to envision your space. Once you find what you like, you can either put it in your shopping cart or if it is a larger item needing assembly, you can get it boxed from their warehouse. They also offer delivery service for a fee. They have a small food court too. Some items seem to be cheap quality but others are higher end so just look carefully. There's something comforting about coming here to just walk around. If you have kids, they also have a play area that you can drop them off so you can shop freely. It's so easy to spend hours and get lost here. I love the different displays they have that give you a feel of how their furniture all comes together. They have such a wide selection of items which is great. I'd say their price is decent depending on the item. If you've never been to IKEA, be sure to take note of the item number you like to find it in their warehouse downstairs to purchase and build. They have a cafeteria style restaurant as well. IKEA's swedish meatballs have long been an iconic symbol of simple, affordable quality. So while prices have crept up while quality has gone down, I still often find myself returning here for little shopping dates. Where this location struggles is with service. Staff are often hard to find on the main floor where you pick up furniture boxes. The experience really pushes you towards self service - from understanding furniture details to figuring out delivery and pickup logistics. For example, there isn't an easy way to tell if a furniture's pieces can fit your car because half the furniture you can buy can't be picked up. On my last couple do visits, staff did not help me navigate this, and it ended up costing me 1-2 hours of extra shopping time without a desired outcome. With that said, I do occasionally get a helpful and enthusiastic staff member on the shopping floor that helps me look up new furniture or figure out the colors/styles that might generally be available. So for the soft spot I have for this furniture playground, its cute and solid furniture finds, and the hope that service support and consistency improves, I am landing on 3 stars. I will likely be back... but fingers crossed for smoother adventures next time! read more

We always love to go IKEA to have a visual and complete picture of our rooms. IKEA is very good at building such good display room sets. I really like the new cabinets with LED lights. The prices are actually very reasonable since they are very durable. The staff are very nice and helpful. Don't forget to get your cinnamon rolls and ice creams. I love coming here because they have a great selection of products, however today was my first time needing to do a return, and let me tell you the return process is horrible, first you have to register to get in the system, then you have to wait to be called. I was wondering why there were couches in the return area, now I know why. 1 rep for about 7 people waiting to do returns is why they have couches there. Haven't been back here since college yrs - ages ago. Love the place since it's affordable, realizable, modern, stylish, and comes w/ varied colors. It's a huge place, like a couple warehouse combined. Huge parking lot, and plenty of exercise (walking around and around). They got everything you can think of from bed room, to living room, to kitchen, to garden, to toys, to foods & drinks, and to anything. They do have a team that can help you to design or concept of putting things or room together. They also have restaurant and bistro/cafe within. They have self checkout or cashiers plus they do have discounts items through AS IS section where folks returns that somewhat or part is slightly damaged. The only thing I'm not liking too much is the assemble it together...abit confuse but it can be fun or frustrated- but either way, a very great place to start your independent life for sure, as it did for me and soon, my kid will too. read more

Went on a Sunday for a car meet and we had our breakfast there at their cafe. Let me tell you, the food was spot on that morning. We had bacon, some crepe/pancakes, eggs and the famous meatballs. It just seems to be getting worse at IKEA. I ordered so storage bags online for pick up. Get the message they are ready and head over to pick them up. Get there and check in and the guy goes in the back to get them. He comes back out and I ask him for a bag to my things in. He reaches into the cart and says you can use one of the bags you purchased. I looked at him like he was kidding and I just walked away. If you are telling me that you can't pack orders in a bag for a person to carry them, then you need to advertise that. This is a joke. If my wife didn't like the items I would not come back here. IKEA is great for browsing and picking up reasonably priced household items and furniture. I have no idea what people did before IKEA! It's fun just to see their displays, try out furniture and maybe even eat a snack. We went to look at floor lamps today, puzzling over which bulbs to buy, when Frank came up and asked if we needed any assistance. He did a great job explaining what bulb we would need and the difference between wattages. Super impressed to get this level of service in such a gigantic place! Some of the furniture doesn't hold up that well (like their dressers) but at that price, you can't really complain. Prices on kitchen stuff are a deal! read more

I liked: Swedish Meatballs Vanilla Candles The Swedish meatballs are a solid choice and great value, especially if you are already shopping in the store. They taste comforting and are surprisingly easy to eat which always leaves me wanting a few more. They did not have peas this time but the peppers were fine as a substitute. Service was fast and efficient. The ambiance is average for a food court setting but it gets the job done if you are taking a quick break from shopping. Overall a reliable stop for a satisfying bite while navigating the showroom. Overall the selection of stuff in the store itself was fine there are some popular items that they don't have stocked. Buying here is pretty comparable to buying elsewhere. You know ikea furniture isn't top shelf but very valuable for a new house or college students. read more

Okay. They seem to have a lot of the furniture that you'd find on the website and it's easy to locate items in the warehouse. The viewing rooms are also nicely decorated and they're quite spacious. We also had to return something once and the process was also super easy and efficient. My only complaint is that some of the workers are not very knowledgeable. An item that we were interested in was located in "Aisle 00" which is not labeled anywhere in the warehouse so we went to ask an associate. She didn't know and just directed us to the self-service kiosks which was no help because the kiosks just said the same thing that the website did. Considering it's the only Ikea in Orange County, you can't be too picky. read more

I haven't been to Ikea in a long minute, so it was nice to check it out again. They intentionally makes the layout inconvenient so that you have to walk through their showrooms. That said, we were looking at kitchen products, and appreciated the different kitchen layouts on display. There were several Ikea team members nearby to help out, but we didn't need any assistance on our first visit. We also stopped by both the bistro upstairs and the more casual Cafe downstairs. The people working at the bistro weren't that friendly and they were out of many food items since it was near closing time. The staff at the downstairs Cafe were much friendlier, so quality of service depends on who is working at that time. We got the strawberry ice cream and cinnamon bun downstairs for a tasty treat after checking out the showrooms. The ice cream was tart and not too sweet, which I liked and the cinnamon bun was served warm and gooey. Food is a great value, at $1.50 for cinnamon bun and $2 for ice cream. All in all, a nice experience for your furnishing and home renovation needs. read more

In store experience on May 20, 2026. I approached Denise, this team member was extremely rude, raising her voice when I asked for some lavender plants with a vase off the top shelf. Yells, you can just grab these plants and a vase on the floor!!!! It's the same thing!!!! OK well you don't have to raise your voice. It just made me felt uncomfortable being in the store after interacting with a staff member in such a harsh tone like that.. They're the vertex point of quality vs. price, and depending on the item in question that meeting point may be higher or lower, but you will get a cool design take on whatever item it is, and it will likely not last forever, but it will last long enough that you will feel like you got your monies worth out of said item. Not sure how to interpret the big "Continue shopping" white arrows on all the huge directory signs. - Also there were some conflicting arrows on the ground at some places within the store. - The MICKE desk has an exposed backside (see screenshot). Doesn't come with a (optional) thin panel to cover that large opening. I drafted my own cardboard wall to cover that opening up. - Also, MICKE's tabletop surface is slightly rough. Not super comfortable to have my forearms on or to slide my computer mouse around on. Unergonomic. I came here looking for a non-toxic couch for my new place. Since we saw it online, we wanted to test it out before buying! The tablet you can use before entering did not tell us where the couch was on display, only where it was in the warehouse. We decided to go o na scavenger hunt, hopeful that we'd find it. Fortunately, we did find it! It was very easy to locate a nearby employee and place our order. We were easily able to schedule the delivery for move-in day and receive an invoice to check out ourselves at the downstairs register. My mom and I stopped into IKEA yesterday to get some new curtains for her. While there, we decided to get some plastic bins and a few other things not on the list. All was going well until we checked out. I've used the self checkout a handful of times without issue. This time, I made an error assuming that the lids came with the plastic bins. They don't. When we called the attendant over to clarify, she was extremely rude and condescending. When we asked to remove some of the lids from the checkout, she stated she wouldn't do that until we finished scanning our plastic bins. Inferring that we would be likely to steal them. We told her we were going to scan them but that wasn't good enough. She took the scanner and did it herself before anything else. And apparently she messed that part up because we got flagged for a random check where she ended up having to re-scan each item herself to match it to what we had already scanned. Her tone and attitude only stirring the pot further. As someone who has spent the last 14 years working in multiple forms of customer service, I was extremely disappointed in the way that we were treated. Do better IKEA! read more

Had brunch at IKEA with my family and do some light browsing which turned to some light shopping. lol You can never leave here without getting something. Had brunch first and wasn't disappointed with the very affordable prices. Food was good. Had to wait a good 15-20 mins for coffee station to brew fresh coffee. Meatballs are always a fan favorite. Staff were friendly enough. This location was slightly clean, by the time we finished at the cafe- some of the showrooms were already ruffled by folks checking out the sections. Always a good selection of products to choose from and great inspiration to envision your ideal style and look. Pleasantly surprised that there are more self service registers and you'll need to scan your receipt to get through gate. Have to get the last minute cookies, frozen meatballs and other items. Went to Ikea with my wife to pick up a few things. We used self-checkout and scanned 8 items. Right before paying, a message popped up saying "wait for attendant for random check." An attendant came over immediately and counted everything. Everything matched and was correct, so no issue there. What stood out was that we were the only ones stopped. The other self-checkout lanes around us were full, but I didn't see anyone else get pulled for a check. It made my husband and me feel singled out and uncomfortable. I get that stores need to prevent theft, but the process should feel consistent for all customers. Hopefully this is something Ikea can look at to make sure random checks don't feel targeted. read more

This is a great IKEA location. Plenty of parking unless you're here on a weekend. They recently installed Tesla charging stations alongside their regular electric car charging. The store itself is normally pretty clean and the selection of furniture and decor is great. The food in the cafe is hit or miss.
