Food has been very good each of the 3 times I've had it. Twice came in to order for to go. Each time had difficulty finding someone who would/could speak English. The 3rd time tried to order over the phone and the woman who answered was downright rude. I gave up but then found out they have delivery thru Uber Eats. The order was delivered exactly as requested. This is maybe my fifth visit to this restaurant. I have never been impressed by it, but it is OK Cuban food. The decor is cute and very Cuban. I really love the coffee sacks on the wall, that's a smart detail. The kitchen is in plain view of the diners, which is great as you can see it is clean! The service was OK. Our waitress forgot one of the orders and brought out the wrong rice. When we corrected the order she still forgot the sweet plantains, it was a busy day so I will give her the benefit of the doubt. We're new to Houston. While in the car and asked the driver next to us "if you could eat anywhere , where would you go" so we went with excitement just to be severely disappointed and disgusted. I was so disappointed from the beginning at this place. I saw on the menu that a natural fruit juice is $6. What? For that side of town? Sometimes I don't know who people think they are to set those prices. My Dad and I ordered a sangria and we were insulted. What did we get for $6? Cheap sangria from a bottle on a wine glass. I would say it's a hole in the wall, but it's more like a flower among thorns. It's in a strip plaza that's fairly empty ever since Harvey. The wait staff is very attentive and the food is on point. I'm originally from Miami, and so I had very high expectations for the food and it did not disappoint. They have a dessert bar; enough delights for you to indulge as you please. My favorite so far is their tres leches! I highly recommended it. For my main course I had the pork chop dish with a side of fried ripe plantains ; it was divine! I think this is one of the most authentic Cuban places in Houston. I don't know if it's the best, because they do well with some things here, and they don't do well in others. What they don't do well here, it's recommended to go to Copacabana on Hwy 6 South (despite the Brazilian name, it's Cuban). It's the "other" authentic Cuban place in town (and maybe nicer looking inside). This place however, evokes more Cuban nostalgia, with its decor. "Smells awesome!", are the words I spewed out as we walked into this Cuban food wonderland. We've been here several times and will continue to return. I typically get the roast pork while my companion insists on the Ropa Vieja. I did branch out though and try their Media Noche sandwich. Other samplings have included the empanadas, croquetas, Chicharritas FLOR DE CUBA and of course the black beans and rice as well as the maduros. Everything has been excellent. I will warn you though, if you are expecting south Florida cuisine, you'll likely be a little let down. There's a regional difference that just can't be met. It's like trying to get New York bagels of Chicago pizza here in Houston, it's close but not exactly perfect. That being said, this is the best place for Cuban place I've found in Houston that is still open. People have complained about the staff, but I feel they're authentic. Both items were well cooked with excellent seasoning and taste. Our only criticism was the service. It wasn't bad overall but the waitress was rather slow getting our order and then the order was cooked wrong ( order was no onions and they put onions) . The good part was she was apologetic and they cooked my wife a new batch of food which is a tremendous positive. It was a big deal given my wife is allergic to onions but I give a lot of credit for the rapidity that they fixed it. The appetizer that had already been ordered before I got there had some good selections. The platano chips were so thin, crispy and yummy! Chicharones, papa rellena, and I don't remember what else. The table enjoyed it. For dinner I ordered the chicken marinated in garlic. It was soooo flavorful and the chicken was cooked perfectly. With a side of fresh veggies that included squash, carrots, cauliflower and they were quite tasty! Black beans were good too. My coworker had a different chicken dish and liked it as well. There was no room for dessert! Actually, we'll call my second mojito dessert!! Lol it was so good that my coworker ordered one as well. When everyone has mojitos, the night is GREAT!!! My husband and I were invited to a family members birthday party here. The live music experience was amazing! Free for women but $10 for men to get in. The food was delicious, BUT I didn't enjoy the portions. My husband and I had separate plates and decided to order another plate of food to split because we were still hungry after our first plates. Our waitress was a little bit iffy when it came to us ordering alcohol. My husband and I each ordered $6 frozen margaritas, but were charged $24 total just for the margaritas. Because the flavor we requested was "premium" (blue hawaiian). I wish our waitress told us that before putting it on our tab...My husband also ordered a 3 Liter pitcher of beer. Our waitress said $45 at the table, but the bartender at the bar said $36... Really good Cuban food! They moved from the much bigger location they used to have after hurricane Harvey. Their new address is 16618 Clay Rd it's not far at all from the old location. Shopping center past los cucos. It still tastes just as great! And they call it "cafe flor de Cuba" I'm assuming since the location is much smaller and I noticed the menu looks smaller but still has the items I love to order!
