The property is beautifully manicured and if you get a free standing apartment "kitchen" suite (like a one bedroom apartment) than most of them have a great view of the property, ocean or both. There's also a bathtub, fireplace, and little patio! The bed was comfy and I've never slept better--something about waking up to hear the surf and smell the fresh sea breeze I will never get over. Also the frogs will sing you a sweet song to sleep if you listen closely. I've never stayed anywhere more charming. Super short walk away to the waves, the beach, and town is just around the bend (also an easy walk). The pool also has a view of the ocean. So cool. Did I mention dog friendly? FYI. If you notice some difference in reviewers experience I believe it's the difference of the units verses the rooms. The rooms are more retro and though they have nice updates, I highly recommend the kitchen units as opposed to the rooms (I've stayed in both). The units are fantastic and worth the tiny bit extra. The rooms have great decks and patios to a lovely beach view but there is an old funk smell that unless you are a smoker is noticeable-- so do yourself a favor and get a kitchen suite. Your wife can thank me later. :) You'll want to plan to book a few extra days because this place is like a warm hug. It's unlike anything out there these days. You can get a clean room almost anywhere but encountering amazing humans on the road is priceless. Thank you Yachats Inn for making my summer to the coast a lovely and wonderfully memorable stay. I heard about this hostel and had planned a day in Eugene around wanting to stay here. There is no shortage of things to do in the area. I went hiking along highway 58, attended the mushroom festival, a death cafe, ecstatic dance and exploded the rose garden. If you're looking for things to do there was a calendar of local events that the staff had put together. This was how I found the death cafe. Everyone at the hostel was very respectful and helpful. I got a great nights rest. I loved getting to stay here and hope to stay again.

I recently booked a private room with a full bed, upon arrival, I was put into a room with bunk beds. I showed the lady at the front desk that my reservation was for a room with a full bed and that the photos on the website showed the same. She explained that they had recently renovated the room, and the website must not be updated yet. She had another room she could put me in with a full bed, but would charge me extra for that. The bunk beds have these small wooden shelves with sharp corners (see photos). I banged into them on a couple of occasions, though luckily not hard enough to cause injury. *** NOTE TO OWNERS: These are dangerous and you will end up with some injured patrons if you leave them. The pure apathy with regards to my room situation (which was an issue caused by mistakes on their website) was the final straw.

My favorite room had a loft spot to sleep, and was private with a great view of the harbor. Kitchen and lounge areas were clean and I met some nice hostelers too. If you enjoy hosteling, this is a good one to visit. They also rent full guesthouse rooms, separately, with views, but I have only stayed at the hostel. Hosteling is very different from hotelling, and it is NOT for everyone, so I would rate this 3 or 4 stars for a hostel, but if you compare it to a regular hotel, i have no idea. Hostels are not camping, not bed and breakfasts, but nor are they hotels or motels, so I have no idea really how to rate them, except hostel to hostel. Hosteling is affordable, social and educational. Someday I'd love to own a hostel.

You pay for what you get…read more In our situation, booking 3 months in advance for the 2-day 4th of July Holiday when rates will be at a premium. Our Priceline Pre-paid price for 2 nights was $169. Pictures attached pretty much describe our dinky room. 1. Our beautiful view of the bay from the bathroom. Unfortunately the fan didn't work so our exquisite views were horribly limited. 2. A mirror over the sink designed for short people. The mirror is functional as it does reflect just fine. You just have to bend over. 3. A circa... perhaps1972 gorgeous vintage chair most likely refurbished with gorilla tape...perhaps in 1994? I now realize I could have paid a bit more and reserved that luxurious "queen room with sea view" and even gotten a bit more space to walk around the bed. Check-in went smooth. I walked in the small lobby looking for a bell but there is none. Within a minute a dude walked in and gave me an actual metal key. The dude is also the housekeeper and seemed to be out of breath. But he was a nice guy. There was some gagging and coughing from someone next door. Other than that, the main noise was from cars and trucks along highway 101. Thankfully, there were no drunken fights, screams, known drug deals or cops called during our 2-night stay. So why the 2 stars when honestly nothing really went wrong? I suppose I expected a bit more. No...not more like Days Inn or Travel Lodge quality. But a bit more like maybe consider the clientele doesn't value that vintage 1970s taped up chair? The room smell was just...creepy. Like a bad smell where no spray is going to work. Actually, that is why our room doors were open when we arrived LOL. Or maybe consider re-setting the bathroom mirror so anyone over 5'7 doesn't have to bend over? Oh yeah...when you sit on the toilet it reminds me of sitting on my chair in 1st grade. My guess is that this is a vintage toilet from the late 60s. Entertainment: You could probably take a hike up to the top of the McCullough Bridge and watch a ship pass under the bridge or maybe the Coos Bay Railroad swing span bridge that rotates 90 degrees to allow 3 trains-a-week train traffic over the bay. Grub: Hilltop House is nice, but I haven't dinned there since the 80s so take caution. Moms Kitchen is a better bet for breakfast or lunch. Be prepared to wait... If you can't wait, then I suggest the Pancake Mill.
