We ordered a dozen pies (three different varieties) for my wedding this past weekend and they were all SO GOOD! Maura, Jess and the rest of their team accommodated my request for strawberry rhubarb (both my and my husband's favorite) and then selected two other flavors they thought would be crowd pleasers (blueberry crumb and lemon chess) and all three were a hit -- so much so that we had no leftovers. The team was friendly and organized to work with and they even delivered everything the morning of the wedding so that everything was fresh and we didn't have to stress about running errands on the day of. read more

Pies are great! Got a little addicted to it while visiting Northampton. Rugelach was not typically made but was delicious. The bottom crust of their pies is DONE, crusts are nicely browned. Many commercial pie bakers, even small, local places never seem to do a good job on bottom crusts. The middle is often not done and is sometimes almost raw dough. People don't seem to know how to bake a proper crust. This place does so it gets my vote for great! Did I mention the pies are really good? Walking into Pie Bar is like walking into your grandmother's kitchen, if your grandmother owned her own restaurant and had a smattering of individual french presses for eveyone to sip majestically around her dining room table. Pie Bar is magical. It's everything you want in a bakery and cafe, plus the added benefit of great customer service and hospitality. I was also rather impressed with the free envelopes on the counter urging customers to write to their local state senators and congressmen/women. I had a slice of the orange dreamsicle pie. Lets, be honest here. It tasted better than those processed Nestlé Push-Up pops I ate as a kid. It was a slice of summer. It was everything you want in a condensed milk based pie. (I think this is condensed milk based?) I will most definitely go back to this place. I'm frankly surprised that I haven't been back multiple times already. We have been waiting to come to the Pie Bar for a long time and today was the day. The savory chicken hand pie was beautifully spiced and flakey deliciousness. I stopped in here for a holiday pie after picking up some baked goods for my vegan daughter at Cafe Evolution (great place!). I am glad I went into the Pie Bar. I was able to grab the last apple pie that had on Christmas Eve. It was a $25 pie and it was pretty good. There was some spice in the pie I could not identify. My service in the store was fast and friendly. The interior was cute and functional. Parking was a little limited, but oh well. I am happy I went into Pie Bar and gave it a try. read more

Wonderful site design. Cozy. Comfortable. Excellent location. Lovely owners and staff. The owner is a superb chef. Excellent = Mojito tart, lemon tart, apple pie, peach pie, ham and cheese roll up (please make more of these per day as they sell out fast, should be $3 like a croissant). They have a wide variety. Yet, the thing I do not prefer is eateries using limited organic. I am not going to pay $22/25 for a pie that uses non organic gmo corn/soy fed eggs, non organic milk/butter/sugar, non organic cheese, non organic spices/brominated white table salt and unfiltered water for organic coffee. This goes against my lifestyle. If it were 100% organic with no canola and no soy, $20/22. It keeps me away. Florence water is chemically treated and many times, when tested, over chlorinated. Boiling does not eliminate. Do not want tea or coffee made from tap water. If this all changes, please list on website or menu. I read some review complaints about apples being a little crispy. Homemade pies to me are best that way. Re: wifi This is a smaller business. People/students with their laptops have a tendency to buy only a coffee and stay way too long when others would like a table when its crowded. As long as that is respected, I have no problem with it. I would like to offer a suggestion to draw customers who are gluten free. Offer the tartlett fillings in a cup like a pudding/parfait. Please make sure the server staff do not touch the pie slices and other products with their hands at all. read more

I've biked over twice and enjoyed a fairly cut slice of pie and a cup of coffee for $5. Sat down with my pie and happily perused the Globe sports page. 20 minutes well spent. Go to any restaurant in town and try to order the same thing for much less. Or head over to Big Y and, yeah, buy a whole pie for $10. Then eat it all yourself in your messy little kitchen. This is a place that picks up your soul from the floor with their wonderful ambiance, creative dishes and excellent service. Is an awesome culinary experience that is worth every penny. Simple (in a nice way) and so cute with flowers and glassware that will make you feel special and appreciated! Is my treat close to home! Can't say enough good things about this place. First off, pie is DELICIOUS! It's great. No complaints here, would give it 5 stars if the rating was just for pie! Here are my complaints.... Prices are way too high for the amount of pie you get, whether it's a whole pie or just a slice. I was really disappointed with how small of a slice it was, so instead of feeling satisfied I left feeling frustrated. There aren't enough places to sit. What good is a pie bar if you can't sit down? Lastly, pie bar, you need to be open past 4pm. There is NO way most people who work regular hours can get there after work, and there's no way I'm getting there at 7am just for pie. read more

Had a slice of the Maple Cream pie. It was amazing. The family and I really enjoyed it. After enjoying the slice we decided we'd like a whole pie to take home. I was then told you can not just order a whole pie, must be preordered. Which was a little upsetting especially when living 30 min away. The pie was great. Little pricey. Then I'm not able to order a whole pie on the spot, that's why the minus one star. Living further away I'm not going to order a whole pie without trying a slice. So unless I plan on making two trips. Pie Bar. Where do I start? I moved to Florence a couple months before Pie Bar opened and was SO FREAKING EXCITED to check it out. When they finally opened, it took me a couple more months to actually get there. Why? Because their hours are extremely inconvenient (Tues - Sat, 7am-4pm) and they ran out of pie just about every day for their first couple months. Sort of disappointing when a place that ONLY SELLS PIE runs out of pie. But I persevered, and I finally made it there on a Saturday (because hello? I love pie but I'm not waking up early on a weekday to go get some). I liked the sweet potato pie I got, but they definitely have some service kinks to work out. When you place your order at the register, the cashier verbally tells your order to the person/people serving the pie. They don't seem to write any of the orders down, which results in messed up orders. In the 15 minutes I was there, I saw at least 3 snafus occur. In addition to expanding their hours to be open later (pie for dessert! What a novel idea...), I also hope Pie Bar gets an alcohol license or allows BYOB. It'd be cool to have some wine or a cocktail with your pie. read more

A massive disappointment. I'd been curious to try this place since it opened and finally had an opportunity to stop in with my wife. The place itself is nice. Warm atmosphere. I can picture it being a popular place to meet up with friends for coffee. We ordered two pieces of pie, a slice of Buttered Rum Cream and a Salted Chocolate. Total came to $9.00 plus tax. Now I understand pricing. Having had to work out pricing in various capacities professionally myself, I get how various costs and factors are put together to come up with the price of a product. But it's also important that the customer feel like the price is equal to (or less than) the value of what their purchasing, and given the size of the slices, I was already skeptical. But whatever, we had to give it a shot. Maybe the pie was that good. It wasn't. The buttered rum had a weird, grainy texture, and ok flavor and a cream and crust that was no better than average. It almost seemed like at one time it might have been good, perhaps when it was first made, but it had that feel of a slice of pie that's been sitting in the fridge for a week because you forgot about it. The salted chocolate had good filling. There was no missing the salt. Others have commented on the saltiness of their pies and I can definitely see where they're coming from but we like salt, so no real harm there. Again the problem was the crust. This time a very unpleasant graham cracker crust. It's too bad. I would have loved to love this place. But $9 for 2 slices of pie, half of which we tossed out because it just wasn't worth eating... we won't be back. read more

Decent, fun place. Really cute decor and awesome flavors. Decent execution but the quality of the pies varies wildly. We ordered a few slices to go and a coffee. Our server was texting the whole time, which was pretty off-putting. Coconut cream had an extremely chewy crust, very difficult to cut through without a knife. Very salty and glutenous, more of a tapioca pudding texture than a custard. Not very flavorful. Lemon chess was exceptional. Crust was much better, flaky and buttery. Might have been fresher or had absorbed less moisture. Really great citrus flavors, could have used more zest. read more

While this place is very pricey, *some* of the pies are great. The Maple Cream is amazing. Others (looking at you, strange apple pie that tastes like rosewater, blueberry pie that tastes like blah and oreo pie that was nothing special) not so much. Sometimes the pies are just strange (please God let the broader "salted" craze end sometime soon!). Cute seating area, somewhat out-of-it staff, but otherwise, good experience because of the maple cream. I also had a coconut cream pie in the past that was excellent. Update 4/28: The last two menus (and each lasts for two weeks or so, it seems) didn't have a single pie for which I'd drive the ten minutes to Florence. My strong suggestion would be that there should be at least one or two favorites (vote for Maple Cream) available at any time so there is always something to bring in customers. This place simply couldn't be any cuter and is bringing life into Flo-town with it's fantastic outdoor patio and quint inside that reminds me of the movie Pleasanteville. We tried their empanadas (chicken with chimichurri--but not the glorious Argentine kind) and a spinach with feta one. Both were insanely dry and desperately needed a dipping sauce to infuse the somewhat flavorful inside. We also ordered the chocolate pie with sea salt--too salty!!! It was clear the salt had been baked into the pie (gets saltier when cooked ya'll) and topped off with it. I would have loved a dark chocolate slice with no salt and then a nice finish of a couple French sea salty flakes to entice the senses. The lemon pie however was awesome! It was bursting with fresh lemon flavor and the curd was velvety and citrus happy. I would gladly order this again. read more

One of my go-to places when in the Florence area. It's very charming and has some outdoor seating which is a plus. Their free sample policy is generous and their selection of sweet and savory foods always varies nicely; although some times I've seen them run out of some savory options before. Overall most things they make are very tasty, and I have yet to not find something I've wanted when eating there. My biggest complaint is that some of their recipes seem under-refined, I had a tomato hand pie that still had tomato skins in it, and sometimes their pies taste too strongly of egg. That said with their free sample policy I'm always able to get something that I'm confident I'll enjoy. They choose not to have WiFi to promote conversation and to deter multi-hour long customers from their small shop, so maybe not the place to go to get that long overdue writing done, but still worth a try for sure. read more

Okay, the occasional Floridian key lime pie and our own Atkins Farms crumb-topped apple pie, but otherwise I never eat, buy, or order pie. Okay, maybe pecan, too, but that was when I was a kid. Don't listen to the haters. This place is adorable, quaint, homey, and filled with love; tempting menu items, delicious smells, and a simple calming aesthetic. I ate a hearty meat pie. I didn't sample anything sweet. The meat pie was not expensive. If you eat anything pie-like or dessert-y at Whole Foods, you'd be paying as much, so why complain when this is feeding the local economy and a slew of creative folks who love food and feeding people? I drove across the river yesterday just for a little hand-rolled ham-and-cheese-filled pastry thing. So yummy! Now it is a hard choice between Pie Bar and Tart--my two favorite bakeries in Noho. Also scored a taste of my companions lattice-top cherry pie - equally delicious! This is a booming, brand-spanking new business - it will find it's stride quickly, especially with the colder weather approaching. A cozy little pie shop with a few pie options, a few lunch options, coffee, beer, and even wine. This is one of those great spots where it's not just coffee, not just a bakery, but a mix of both and a place where you want to hang. The cup of jo + slice of pie is your best bet at $5. For me, that's a good price point. You don't need anything else...unless you're me and you get cardamom shortbread as well (delicious). I ordered the Shaker Lemon Pie - sliced whole lemons, baked into a pie crust (the kind with a crust on top). It's a good mix of sweet/bitter/sour, and it works because each flavor balances the other. The slice could be a bit bigger, but it's a good snack. The shop should play some music to enhance the ambiance, which, while cute, was a little quiet for me. If they make Key Lime, I'll be back in an instant. The butternut squash tart looked great (it's not sweet, it's savory). The apple galette looked equally as tasty. read more

Maybe it's just because I live in NZ and can't get sweet pie very often (except Pie Piper, love those gals!) but this neighborhood pie shop is pretty much my dream. It's very cute inside, and cozy, pie serving waitresses in aprons were sweet and adorable, perfect Sunday morning atmosphere. The pie was really good, and interesting flavor combos too. (Crust could be a little less dense and a little more flaky I think though...) coffee was decent. It's true the prices are sort of high (which I would probably willingly pay if more ingredients were locally sourced.) and the hours are awful. Like...really inconvenient. Superb pies, and my wife and I have been serious bakers for decades, as well as having eaten at some great restaurants around the world. Cookies are terrific as are the hot savory hand pies. Really good soup as well. It is a small place with only so many varieties on any given day. Popular ones will run out. Don't expect dozens of choices; it's a small, hand-made operation. This place is amazing!! Pie was out of this world. We got the mocha cream pie. The chocolate filling was delicious. Rich. Not an overpowering mocha flavor. . Fresh whipped cream that wasn't too sweet. And the true test of a good pie or not. The crust. And this was spot on. It was buttery. Crispy. Not greasy tasting like so many crusts are.
