Months ago I read an online article about bakeries and specifically about bagels in NYC. it stated emphatically that you should not toast a bagel. The article went on to explain that a good fresh bagel shouldn't need it. Well, now that we have this place in town I can say that is absolutely true. Their bagels are awesome and do not need to be toasted. You can just eat the plain right out of the bag. I'm grateful that Hamilton finally has a place like this, now if we could only get one or two more good interesting places in town. Come check it out and if you get a chance try one of the ginger molasses cookies. P.S. One thing I'd love to see are smaller dog cookies. Liked this spot until Friday Oct 9 at 10am. Spent $20 on bagels and coffee. The drip coffee was Luke Warm at best. We nicely asked if we could have a hot one. If you find yourself in Hamilton, NY, idk why or how you would, you have to stop by Flour and Salt. It really is as magical as the full moon or an eclipse. As a college student i really appreciate having a solid sandwich or bagel option nearby. There are times when the bagels can almost taste wooden because of how small and dense they are. The first time i came into flour and salt I ordered the Colgate, it was very delicious, however it was as messy and stuffed as a tortellini. One day i even found glitter in my coffee cup.... I didn't care though and you shouldn't either. Seriously, don't knock it until you try it. If you are looking for a nice breakfast date spot this is the place. The atmosphere is warm and inclusive. The costumer service is immaculate, they treat me like a princess every time I go in there. Ariel the mermaid once said " What makes something special? I suppose it all depends." and you know what I think is special the variety of bagels coffees and baked goods Flour and Salt offers. Not only do they have good food there merch is so stylish. If my bank account wasn't sinking so much like a submarine i would buy my personal favorite "the bagel dudes" shirt. I highly recommend the Colgate and the Coffee squares. This is the most delicious and cute little bakery/ café.They create such interesting flavor combinations that are truly delicious, in addition to having amazing staple items such as bagels and coffee. Flour and Salt has been my go-to stop for coffee, a breakfast bagel, and a space to work since returning to Hamilton a year ago. My office partnered with the bakery for an event promoting social wellness along with healthy and sustainable cooking for Colgate students this year and the owners (Britty and Brendan) were phenomenal - organized, flexible, passionate, and patient educators, dedicated to openly sharing knowledge and their space. My daughter's class held a poetry reading in the bakery this year as well and my youngest learned about baking from a tour they offered to community preschoolers. Bottom line: excellent food and incredible individuals dedicated to the community as they warmly and generously welcome many. read more

Best Samoas in the universe--sorry girl scouts--- ordered these the week before I needed them for a Super Bowl party and another family gathering, they arrived in overnight mail, packed so thoughtfully, as delicious and beautiful as the pictures on her menu. Was excited to order from their delicious list of locally sourced ingredients for lunch today. I picked from a list of "make your own." I cannot eat gluten so I asked for my order without a bagel, since it would just go to waste. The person was extremely rude and scoffed at us that it was a bakery and they serve "baked goods" so take it or leave it. Ok so simple request and no need to be rude, but whatever, I still ordered because the food sounded so good. Paid $1 extra for avocado and it came smeared into the inside of the bagel so I couldn't even scrape any off. Both bagel and avocado went into the trash unfortunately. What a waste and what rude people. I will not be supporting their business any more. read more

The bagels are delicious (get the Rosemary & Salt), the breakfast sandwiches are unbelievable (pair that Rosemary & Salt bagel with the Adler), the coffee is on point (and I usually end up buying a bag), and the baked goods should be illegal (because you can't say no to just one and then you can't stop). For the love of bagels! My husband and daughter rave about the Rosemary and salt bagels. I can't have gluten so I've only had their apple loaf, whopping pie, and chocolate chip cookie. All are good but a bit too sweet for me. It is a nice treat that there is something I can have. read more

Flour & Salt is exactly what Hamilton needed. Everything Britty bakes is insanely tasty - from cookies, pies, and cupcakes to her signature bagels. The bagels are true NYC style bagels and come in a variety of flavors (my personal favorite being Rosemary & Salt). Flour & Salt can also do custom orders (I recently ordered some cookie boxes for some colleagues), and she makes the process extremely easy. Prices are given up front, she will let you know what the ideal shelf life of her products are (helpful in a case where I had to mail some items), and baked goods are always ready when she promises that they will be.
