The hydration station before you walk in to order is a nice touch.
    Brenda J.

It is an order at the counter and take to your table restaurant. I received a gift card that I had never used, so tonight is the night! Parking was easy--they have lot. However the handicapped parking spots were at the opposite end of the strip mall. I didn't need it, but if someone does-it may be a problem. They have 5 curbside pick-up spots. (Turn 2 or 3 into handicap parking--suggestion.) There were issues finding a working "manager card" that is needed to process a gift card. Third time was the charm! Not quite. The card had expired months ago. (Sad face, here, only because the gift card doesn't show an expiration date.) I had invested several minutes in the gift card logistics and the line behind me was growing, so I paid for the meal. My wrap, the 1924, was delicious! It was a limited-time, seasonal item. The chicken was flavorful and the greens tasted fresh and they were lightly dressed in an oil & vinaigrette. The self-serve rose-petal lemonade was good too. I sat on the patio with outdoor ceiling fans keeping the humid summer air circulating. It was pleasant. Overall, I'm not sure I'm their target customer based on the menu. I may try Flower Child again though.

So delicious and yummy!! Everytime I come here I am so impressed. The food was flavorful and tasty. The staff is always kind and welcoming. The restaurant was clean and very positive vibes inside the restaurant!

Comfortable, light and airy, with so many delicious vegan choices (as well as vegetarian and healthy omnivore) that I had a hard time deciding! They often have kombucha on tap, although they were out when I went, and they stock healthy seltzers, sodas, and other drinks in cans. I decided on the Glow Bowl, with truly delicious sweet potato noodles, and marinated herbed tofu on top. It was, hands down, the best vegan meal I've had at a restaurant. His Goatness got the coconut curry, with salmon added; he gave me a bit of the curry, and it was as good as the version I make at home (one of our favorite recipes). Service was simple: you order at the counter, help yourself to water (from a big jar that has cut fresh citrus slices in it), and the food is brought to your table. You can bus your own table, or let the occasional passing server clear dishes as they offer. Prices were exorbitant, for the kind of experience offered. Be prepared. And here is where I found a big problem: they tout themselves as "healthy food for a happy world"...BUT THEY DO NOT RECYCLE. They don't offer information on where the food comes from. (Is it local? Fresh? Organic? Or is it more Sysco produce shipped from thousands of miles away in gas-guzzling refrigerator trucks, from the same industrial farms that brought us the Cyclospora outbreak?) So. Basically: their corporate image is purely advertising -- they don't put their money where their mouths are. Disappointing. So! Delicious food, questionable ethics. Guess I'll still be cooking my meals at home. Sigh. Maybe I can figure out the recipe for the glow bowl.

6.24.24 came during lunchtime with some coworkers, 7 of us in total. The location was attractive becuase some of our group have allergy or other food needs, and they can accommodate. The interior is bright and fun. They're in the strip mall at 86th with the Noral Target, so there was plenty of parking. We each ordered separately, but they nicely put our order on the same overall table ticket so that it was delivered at roughly the same time. I hadn't been here before, and was excited to try it. You order at the front counter then they bring it to our table. The menu can be a little daunting if you aren't sure what you want. I chose a chicken enchilada bowl, but was then told they were out of cheese. Nothing else was jumping out at me, so I just ordered the avocado toast. (see pics) Our food came fairly quickly. I will say, my coworkers' dishes looked good. I was pretty disappointed with my avocado toast. For $9, it was a sinlgle slice of bread, only very lightly toasted. The jammy egg was maybe 1 hard boiled egg, chopped up on top, and it was cold. It did have shredded cheese over it (not sure why that couldn't have been used in my enchilada bowl?) . It also tased like it had a lot of "everything bagel" spices on it, and was overall fairly salty. So it was a little disappoining. And I left hungry. But I wasn't in the mood to order anything else. My coworkers had sweet potato fries (I tried some - really good!), and different bowls that looked good, so I would give them another try sometime, but the avocado toast did not live up to expectations. #ReviewsByRL

I had came here with a friend for a lunch date since I hadn't been here yet. When I first walked in they had water at the door which was really nice. The restaurant is really nice with the decor. I love that we were greeted when we first walked in. They had took our order and explained the different meals offered. I had got the chicken plate with broccoli and glazed carrots. The price was very reasonable especially with it being a healthy eating place. I love a good restaurant that offers clean eating options and this place definitely sets the bar for meeting that expectation. If you are looking for somewhere with clean eating definitely check this place out. I will definitely be going back here again. The food was delicious!

This is one of the best chain restaurants and this location is extra great. My usual go to is the steak plate with the broccoli and sweet potatoes. It has always been good. Today I got the chicken enchiladas and the kale salad and they were unreal good. I love that they have healthy options! This location is a lot bigger than others so there is tons of seating. My food came out quick and all of the staff were super friendly!

I went here for dinner and I really loved everything about this restaurant. Firstly, let's talk about the intentionally behind the decor and seating arrangements inside and outside. The restaurant is simply yet so elegant. The service was wonderful throughout (from ordering the food, delivery of food and clearing the plates). The options on the menu were wonderful and I was so impressed by the menu. I had the salmon with cauliflower risotto and quinoa and corn. The salmon was cooked the perfection, the cauliflower was creamy and zesty and the quinoa abs corn reminds me of corn pudding (so divine). The food was excellent and my only complaint is I wish I had gotten a little more. I tried my friend's meal, the sweet potato bowl with tofu and it was also good. The portions are smaller but very great quality.

I returned to Flower Child on a Sunday evening around 6:30 pm. I was kind of surprised how busy it was. After experiencing the food again I can understand why! The staff is so friendly and helpful. Somehow they read my mind and knew I was craving a red sangria! I was interested in the Avocado Caesar salad as well as the avocado hummus and soup of the day a Dukka curry. However I decided to load up on protein instead with the Steak Plate. It comes with two sides. I had the Parmesan broccoli which was cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. I also had the sweet chilli glazed sweet potatoes. Yum! My friend had almost the exact same order but with the kale salad. The decor is adorable and cheerful. The walls are lined with colorful artwork and it's a fun atmosphere. Even though it was busy we didn't have to wait long for our food. Looking forward to going back to try more things soon!

Flower Child is so consistent. Perfect spot for lunch! If you're in a pinch, this is the spot for you. It's always busy when I stop in, and I get my food no more than 10 minutes later. Lately, my go to has been either the steak or salmon plate with broccoli and Mac and cheese (or sweet potatoes). Special moment for the broccoli: it's charred and then topped with Parmesan. 10/10. * parking can get tricky here!

Stopped in here to give it a try as I was in the neighborhood. There was a small line to order when I walked in but it moved quickly. Then I received a table number pick and they brought my meal to me. I ordered the veggie plate and was able to choose three vegetarian sides. I ordered roasted Brussels sprouts, red chile glazed sweet potatoes, and kung pow cauliflower. I really did not care for the glazed sweet potatoes but the other two veggies were good. Cute place with all the artwork on the walls and it was clean. I saw a few other things on the menu that I would not mind trying so I am sure I will stop in again. They were definitely busy and I had to park in the lot behind Culinary Dropout and then walk back over.

On my way to a Yelp event in the same plaza, I spotted this healthy restaurant option. I already ate dinner but decided since I was in the area that I would order takeout leftover for lunch. I had never been to a Flower Child so I needed to understand their sauces. They let me try them. I decided on chicken without that accompanied sauce, red chili glazed sweet potato with sesame seeds, and the unique roasted brussel sprouts. I am a sucker for items not typically served. It was a little costly for the portion. Chicken was a little dry, but the guy said they could not provide a sauce I like. A few sides interested me so I might return for it or at least see their rotating menu. One of the added perks of exploring while going to Yelp events in areas not on my radar.

Indianapolis is one of the hardest cities to find healthy options in. If you're an Indy native...you know in your heart this is true. This place is quick, easy, and delicious. The price points are decent. The staff are friendly. Add this to your list if you usually stay at home because anything "healthy" you eat while out is bland, or prohibitively expensive.

Glow bowl with chicken. It was flavorful but I worry it may have been too salty for me.
    Mariam W.

Everything here is too too salty. I've had tinnitus after each of the three times we've eaten here. I've tried ordering different things. All salty. It's a bummer because my kids really like it. Especially the gluten free mac and cheese and the steak and the broccoli. I must give credit for the very tasty gluten free baked goods. That is an accomplishment. Restaurant is clean. Staff friendly. Just wish I could actually eat the food.

I always order the Cuban when a new restaurant has one on the menu, and Big Lug's did not disappoint. It was juicy, flavorful, and one of the better Cubans I've had in a while. On my second visit, I went with the blackened cod tacos on corn tortillas (you can also get flour tortillas, and they offer shrimp and breaded fish options). They were fresh, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely delicious. Both visits I ordered the spicy garlic cauliflower, and it was outstanding. The homemade blue cheese dressing took it to another level. If you're on the fence about ordering it, don't be--it was one of my favorite things on the menu. The outdoor walk-up bar creates a really cool, laid-back atmosphere, making it a great place to relax whether you're meeting friends or just enjoying a meal by yourself. The staff was friendly, the service was excellent, and both meals came out quickly. I don't usually eat at the same restaurant twice on a trip, but Big Lug earned it. If I'm back in the area, it'll definitely be on my list again.

Big Lug is a very cool spot right off the Monon, and even better if you have a pooch with you!…read moreUnfortunately, our experience with the service was pretty disappointing. We sat right in the middle of the main thoroughfare and were completely ignored for at least 15 minutes before we finally flagged someone down. The guy, "H," apologized and said, "Oh, my bad--it's all good." We figured, no big deal, let's move on. We ordered pretty simple food, apps and were then going to put in some entrees once apps arrived. We asked for waters and a water bowl for our pups. He brought two waters--with no straws--and no dog bowl. We assumed he was going to grab the bowl, so we waited... and waited. Then I noticed him at the end of the bar leaning against some boxes, texting. So I finally got up, interrupted him and asked for the dog bowl. His response, "oh my bad." Our appetizers came out, and naturally, we asked for silverware. A few minutes later, I spotted "H" in the corner on his phone again. At that point I was thinking, seriously?! So I got up again, interrupted "H's" text convo and asked for silverware. His response again was, "Oh, my bad." I didn't respond to him I just turned around and went back to my seat. Honestly, the whole experience started feeling more like a self-serve restaurant than table service. It's a chill spot and we weren't being needy whatsoever. We never asked for any refills- we were merely asking for the basics. We wanted to order more food, but by that point we were pretty turned off and decided to just get the check. Then came the final straw: my guy had his license and credit card sitting on the table because he hadn't brought his wallet out for our monon trek. When "H" came back with the checkout thing, without question or hesitation - he grabbed the card and swiped it. We didn't even realize what happened until afterward. Maybe that's standard there, but I've never had a server just take my card without asking. Usually you get a "hey do we want to use this card? Or something to confirm. And of course the tip structure is skewed so the min is 20% unless you want to try to figure out to manually enter in 15% (which most ppl don't -incl my guy), so we left 20% and left irritated and still hungry. "H" didn't seem hungover or anything--he just genuinely seemed like he did not not give a shiiiit. We had to get up three separate times to get things we had already requested: the dog bowl, a couple straws, and silverware. (Basics) And a quick note on the 7-Layer Hoss Dip: don't expect seven layers. It comes in a small thick ceramic bowl and was basically beans, guacamole, a tiny bit of corn and some hard cheese on top. Definitely would not recommend it. Way too "beany" and not worth $16 at all. The southwest rolls were decent- very fried tho. Cheesecake Factory's are better ;) The location and dog-friendly atmosphere are great, with the exception of the homeless camp right at their patio entrance, but unfortunately, the service really took away from the experience. Hopefully this was just an off night, because Big Lug has a lot going for it.

Well every item except some mint was cooked. Mushy apples, mushy tomatoes.... coated in a fowl smelling oil. The mushy-ness of it all got to the bread underneath. Then the salmon on top.... it was salmon but it was very, very smoky and it was shredded to appear like.... hate to say it.... cat food. Cat food instantly popped in my mind when I saw my plate. The item I used to love the sweet potato hash but it now has the same problem as the caprese toast. No flavor except that of cooking oil. I also ordered a kids plate with scrambled eggs. Eggs arrived with obvious signs of being over cooked with brown burn marks. Fine for a fried rice at a Chinese restaurant, maybe. But really? This is a brunch place that is supposedly 'health minded'. Eggs shouldn't be dry. I'm sure they also tasted like cooking oil but I didn't try them.
