I absolutely LOVE Karen & Flowers by Steen! She did an amazing job at our Aug 2017 wedding! I am not very familiar with flowers, but it was one of the aspects of planning I was most excited about. I visited with a few different vendors in the area, but Karen was BY FAR the most knowledgeable person! At my meeting with her, I brought in a couple pictures of bouquets that had caught my eye..just by seeing those few pictures she was able to expand on that vision and help me create something that was GORGEOUS for my wedding. She immediately started pointing out flowers that looked good together in the garden style bouquet I had a picture of, as well as what colors the flowers came in & how the colors would fit together. She is very creative & really amazing at what she does. After we booked for the bouquets/boutonnieres, we ended up adding some flowers for centerpieces. Flowers by Steen supplied for flower for the wedding. And they were beautiful, but they did not show up to the church on time. They went to the wrong church. When I called Karen to ask where the flowers were she started yelling at me about how they were at the wrong church and it was my fault. Granted, there are two churches with the same name, but when we signed the contract with her, she described my church to a tee and even gave the dimensions of the aisle, and gave me tips from other weddings she has had there before. She had me crying on the way to my wedding which was a really great memory to have. Luckily I had my bouquet, but there were no church flowers, aisle runner, or bows. When they finally arrived to my church in the middle of the ceremony, her people got into a fight with the church planner because they wanted to set up in the middle of the ceremony and the church would not let them ruin my ceremony anymore than they already had. When I called a few weeks later to ask for the money back, just for the church flowers, she started yelling at me again! She told me it was my job to make sure she was at the right church. She also told me she would not reimburse me for the church flowers because no one even notices them anyways. If no one notices them, then why did I pay for them?? In regards to the church mix up: I did not know there were two Saint Elizabeth Seton Churches for one; two, why would she go to the one 45 minutes away, and not the one 15 minutes away that she told me she goes to all the time? She told me I should have verified the address when she showed me the address. She never showed me the address. When I pointed this out to her, she told me her job is to pay attention to detail and she knows she did. Well in regards to her attention to detail, she emailed me later in the day finally apologizing and called me by the wrong name 3 times! I would not call that attention to detail. In the end, she refunded me for some of the flowers, and apologized to Amanda... It was one of the happiest days of my life, but, her behavior in the beginning really stained some of my memories of this happy day. It really sucks watching my wedding video and not seeing any flowers, which continues to remind me of she happened that day. I only hope she learns to be more professional in the future, and actually does start paying attention to detail. read more

Look for a different florist for your business. Karen Steen is in this for the money & she is lacking in her heart. My daughters wedding was cancelled 2 1/2 months prior to the wedding date when her fiancé passed away. I stopped their store that same week to ask if she would be able to give my daughter back the money they put down due to the circumstances & she told me she would not reimburse her unless that date was booked again by someone else. I mentioned that it was still a few months away so she wouldn't have even ordered or paid for any flowers yet. She said its not about the flowers, it's about having an opening on that date now that 'maybe' they could have booked another wedding that day. So I asked why she couldn't be reimbursed just for the cost of the flowers. She still said no. My daughter had paid a $238 deposit when they booked, but then they made the final payment early on May 16th, final payment was not even due until 9/17/18! So Steen wouldn't even have had the additional money, had they not made an early payment as they were trying to get wedding expenses paid off! Karen Steen even mentioned as I was leaving that their business had filled orders for flowers for the wake of her fiancé. Unbelievable! And she still thought she should keep their money?? The other businesses (photographer, bakery, officiant, tux rental, etc) involved were all very supportive & they all without a question, gave full reimbursement of all monies paid. This included Dinolfo's Banquets who blew me away with their kindness & empathy for my daughter. These are the things that our families as well as their many many young friends will remember when they need to find venues, florists, bakeries, etc for future weddings. Those who really cared about us as people and not as just an open date on their calendar, will always have our business and referrals going forward! We will be happy to share our distaste of Steen with friends & on social media going forward! read more

Scheduled a wedding consultation with the owner 4 weeks prior and drove 20 minutes to get there. When we arrived the owner said she didn't have me on her schedule and was already busy so she couldn't meet with us. I showed her the emails so she can see our communication and she disregarded them and said "well I am already busy right now so I can't meet". No apologizing or trying to reschedule. Extremely disappointing and unprofessional, especially since we were referred to her. I understand making mistakes, but own up to them, apologize, and try to rectify the situation rather than completely dismissing a potential customer. I would not recommend this company due to this. Also, if a florist can't keep a consultation appointment that was scheduled weeks in advance, who knows if she would be able to follow through with the actual wedding.... read more

She went above and beyond for far less than what we priced out in the city of Chicago - and she delivered everything to our church and venue downtown. You only had to go out to visit twice, once to meet and discuss and for your preview. Not sure why anyone would use a city flourish - or anyone other than Karen! Karen does a fantastic job with arrangements. My wife brought her dozens of pictures (thank god for Pinterest) and Karen knew exactly what she wanted and even suggested lower priced alternative flowers that were in season. After hearing about Karen and her business from numerous different people, I knew I wanted to use her for my wedding in October of this year. Even though we first met a year out, Karen always made time to answer my questions, help me and meet with us. We had very specific requests and she never batted an eye.
