They are very friendly, listened to what and how I wanted, we chic chatted here and there. They both on point from beginning to the end. Missed them both! I vowed not to go back to Floyd's but there aren't a lot of options in the area so I tried again at the Long Beach location hoping for better results. One of their "master stylists" cut my hair a handful of times but the cuts were always just "meh" and nothing special. I never felt like she really listened to me or understood what I wanted but I kept coming back because she hadn't totally mangled my hair. Until one day she did. The final straw came when she left my hair a full inch longer on one side of my head and I had to return to have it fixed. How does that happen?? Why did I spend so many times returning to every Floyd's location I have ever been to in order to have my cuts fixed because their stylists lacked the skill to give me a proper cut? I don't know but I have now tried three locations (Costa Mesa, LB, and Pasadena) and had bad experiences at all of them. $50 plus tip for bad cuts is way too much. I have seen the "master stylist" give men in her chair some excellent cuts, but I never got the same treatment for some reason. If you're not a dude, I wouldn't recommend her. There were also some comments made during my last few visits that struck me as very classist, oblivious, and inappropriate. It was clear this is someone who has never struggled financially in her life and who thinks that poverty is a result of just not trying hard enough, rather than real systemic barriers and lack of safety nets or family support. I definitely don't need that kind of condescension when I'm already overpaying for a crappy haircut. The whole brand stinks. Sorry, not sorry. read more

I've been here twice, first time I had a decent haircut but left beard alone. Second time I requested the full haircut and beard trim. The service was wonderful - the staff were polite and attentive, the shop was clean and well run, place in general had a good feeling about it - I was met by my stylist quickly both times. This place does a decent haircut to be sure, I felt like the cut and fade I got was perfectly serviceable - however the second time around my beard was absolutely butchered. Despite clear instructions on length and style, somehow I ended up with a #1 trimmer cut across the whole length. I think I was partially in shock when finished; had to come home and try to salvage some kind of shape and then let the regrowth process begin. Good thing I grow a beard quickly, but this will be the very last time I come here and probably the last time I let any stylist near my beard without first having seen a portfolio of their beard-specific trims and agreeing on a style first. Truly wanted to like this place and make it my regular spot - it has a vibe very similar to Bishops up in Portland, OR but I just can't recommend based on the spotty experience I've had. Sarah has an attitude, doesn't fade well, and never let her trim your eyebrows unless you like them paper thin. Edit 2 weeks after: Noticed my head looked like it had an awkward shape and went to a different barber 2 weeks after and turns out she shaved into the hair on the crown of my head. This is the second time that we have had an unpleasant experience at this barbershop. It used to be so much better. We won't be coming back. We really think their customer service needs to improve. Today, we brought our son to get a haircut and the hairdresser was very frustrated both towards him and us. I am not sure if the hairdresser was having a bad day, but it definitely made for a very stressful experience for us. TLDR: Floyd's as a company is decent, this LB location isn't, you're better off going to a different location or another barbershop entirely. I've been coming to Floyd's in Tustin, CA for a few years, but recently had to find a new barber so I figured the LB location would be a solid pick. I want to clarify that the barber, Mateo, who cut my hair was really nice, welcoming, professional, and easy to talk to. But unfortunately his craft is in need of some work. If you're looking for a skin fade, I'd recommend going somewhere else, or at the very least do a deeper look at the reviews for this location specifically (something I overlooked given my previous years going to a different location). As you can see, there was essentially no blending of the skin fade I was given, and there were noticeable jagged/harsh guide lines. Maybe it was an off day, but it was jarring to come home and see the haircut in a different lighting rather than the off lighting that this location has inside. My hope is that Floyd's as a company does a better job at training their staff (from the looks of the other reviews, there's multiple people who would benefit). read more

I recently had an absolutely horrible experience at this Floyd's location with the barber named Nicole P., and it was bad enough that I feel compelled to leave a review. It's strange because when I first sat in her chair, she seemed friendly and professional. However, things quickly took a turn for the worse. When she asked what I was looking for, I explained the haircut I wanted. Rather than listening to my request, she immediately questioned my choice and started going on about how the previous barber had cut my hair by pointing at where the fade began. I showed her an older photo of myself with the fade I was asking for, but as I scrolled through my pictures to find the specific one, Nicole started awkwardly looking over my shoulder at my entire photo gallery. While this wasn't a huge issue on its own, that's when her attitude completely shifted. I don't know if he she saw a photo in MY photo album that she didn't like but her demeanor became noticeably dismissive, and it was clear she wasn't interested in giving me the haircut I requested. The entire experience felt uncomfortable and unprofessional, and the final result was far from what I asked for. Nicole didn't seem to care about my satisfaction at all. It was a rushed, half-hearted job that left me frustrated. I wouldn't recommend Nicole P. to anyone, her bio on their website says she's been cutting fades for 10yrs but the way my hair is looking, it's as if she just started cutting yesterday... I went to this location the other day and they took good care of me in my time of need. An hour before arriving, I'd had a haircut done at a different shop and the lady there doing my hair completely botched it. She acted like she was afraid to even touch my head, dropped her scissors, and left my hair long, uneven, and messy. Didn't even clean around the ears. I didn't say a word but left that chair a mess. I enjoy visiting different barbershops so I was excited to check out this barbershop and I wasn't disheartened by some of the poor reviews it had, but after viewing it myself I understand why. My barber was not interested in what I wanted in a haircut. I was lucky I didn't spend too much time in the chair because they did not properly line up my hair either. They charge about 40$ for a men's haircut but the service provided I felt like they should've charged $30. For a place with a cool vibe and seemingly friendly it was quite the opposite. Ok first off, I don't understand all these bad reviews on here about the wait time. Sometimes cuts are bit longer especially if the customer before you is late. My bestie and I have been getting our haircut from Rosie for years, every single cut is perfection and is worth the drive and an extra wait. (Honestly, a lot of the times we don't have to wait.) I have never been more pleased with a stylist, not only is she extremely skilled but she is INCREDIBLY compassionate and wise. Consider me a loyal customer for as long as she cuts hair! Extremely happy with my haircut every single time. Cheyenne, in my opinion, one of the best there not only knows what she's doing but creates a welcoming environment and safe space. Hands down recommend her and this establishment. Recently, however, cooperate has made it clear they only make it known to support the gay community during pride. They have asked to not put up any LGBTQIA+ flags around the barber shop because a homophone customer complained about the "pride." Last I checked Long Beach was one of the most gay-friendly places to live, work, play, relax, and get a simple haircut. Silly boys, Floyd's is for girls too. Even if your not getting a fade, buzz or shave. Girls can get a signature wash, cut and blowdry. If your a guy they do it all here. Duh, it's a Barber shop. Meraida is the best. She left her previous place that I would visit. I hunted her down almost a year later, with the help of fellow Yelper Patricia A. At first I thought why would she go to a barber shop. I was a little bummed. Turns out Floyd does everything. I wish I knew sooner because I haven't cut my hair in about a year. Meraida is perfect with her scissors. I have 100% faith that she will only cut what I ask. I always leave feeling refreshed and satisfied. Another stylist I lost touch with named Shamera is also here. Both of them I trust completely. Now here is the BEST part. Actually I have 2 best parts. Fiona my dog is welcome here and can sit right next to me, the area is super chill and dog friendly. Second best part is that this place is steps away from the beach. That is instant medicine right there. Seriously it is the best location ever. Plus free parking. The lot can fill up but there is plenty of 2 hour free parking. First off I get a call that my assigned barber called out because she got Covid.... So rescheduled for an hour later! I don't know what it is but I show pictures and tell the lady I wanted the sides longer than the picture, she said we can start with this # and go shorter.... Okay cool... The number she started with was literally just as short if not the same that I showed in the picture, all she said was "oops sorry!!" My hair is now sticking straight up to the point product doesn't even put it down on the back/on top! I asked if it could be fixed so it didn't look like a Pom Pom. She said we would have to go shorter.... Like I said I DIDNT want it that short, why would I want it even shorter, lady did not care. I had to ask for her to square my neckline, had to ask for her to line up the front, had to ask to go around my ear more!! I paid for a wash also and she was about to finish before washing my hair, I had to say I got the wash with the cut, and again says, "oops sorry, they didn't tell me you got a wash too!" Kept asking if I wanted product in my hair the whole time because she knew it looked like garbage! Left the place angry, regretting even coming to get my hair cut and spending the amount for nothing but "oops" "oops" "oops" "sorry"! Put my hat right on before standing up from the chair which is not what I wanted for the holiday weekend! I was about to leave and not pay! Straight up, she looked at her coworker a few times like I was a problem... no I just asked for a haircut a certain way and she did how she felt and again, just a "oops, I'm sorry, making excuses after excuses!" Top was completely wrong from what I wanted too, she literally just cut it how she wanted looked nothing like the pictures I showed or how I asked!!! Staff is great but for the past several times I've gone to get my haircut, I've had to wait at least 20 minutes. Today my wife took our son to get his haircut and had to wait 30 minutes. I've been told that Floyd's gives each staff person 20 minutes to cut someone's hair, which is unreasonable. Haircuts take longer than that, so the schedule gets backed up. Called, made an appointment, confirmed the time and why I needed it at that time specifically and came in early. And still waited 20 minutes past my appointment start time with zero update. As I got up to leave they said of course my barber was almost ready by after that much time, no updates, and as I mentioned I was on a tight time schedule, I had to leave. No accommodating were made, I don't need them, but it is disappointing as a business owner to see service like this. I still am in need of a haircut. My tween son has opinions about pretty much everything, especially when it comes to his hair. We've tried our luck with a lot of different places along both ends of the spectrum and in between - from the super cheap "order your cut off a menu" barber shops to fancy salons with pretentious names. He's never walked away raving about his haircut and, honestly, I'm okay with that. At his age, he's hard to please. Last week I took him to Cypress Barber Shop. I showed the woman a photo of what he wanted. She glanced at it once and then completely disregarded everything I told her. Maybe it was my fault for not communicating better. Although, that's probably more charitable than what is deserved. The expression on her face made clear she was out of her depth, as was her constant checking with another barber for support. So, it did not come as a shock when the end result was a disaster. No exaggeration. It was awful. Actual tears were shed. We made an appointment that same day with Alex, who managed to fix the Titanic of haircuts. I appreciate that he listened to what my son wanted and asked multiple questions and kept checking in with my son to make sure it was to his liking. Alex is is clearly a skilled barber; my kid was in good hands. He even gave me a discounted rate because he said it hadn't taken too long to fix it and, also, he felt bad that we had to pay for a second haircut. I don't know many people who would do that, especially since we were first timers to Floyd's. The ultimate compliment, though, comes from the tween who was smiling when he left and said he wants to go back to Alex when he needs a haircut again. We live in the Bay Area, but we will definitely try to time future trips around the same time when he's due for another haircut. read more

Their customer service is terrible. I made an appointment for 7PM. They said the hairdresser was behind and it would take 10-15 more mins to wait. 20, then 30 minutes passed and I'm still waiting. They shouldn't be offering appointments for times that are clearly not available. On top of that, the staff ignored me and went about their day as if nothing was wrong. I never leave reviews, especially bad ones but damn this experience really left me bitter. You guys seriously need to do better. read more

Been coming here since they opened there location in LB. For approximately 2 years I have exclusively seen Edwin G I would Come approximately every 6 weeks. Edwin was dope and we talked sneakers, lakers, and life. He gave great fades and was worth the extra money. Unfortunately today will be my last....Edwin has canceled at the last minute 3 of my last scheduled hair cuts because he is "sick"....I Always tipped $10 on $40 cut and I don't believe ever offended him or was a pain in the ass. ....it sucks that I work my schedule around to get a haircut and they don't have the respect to cancel in a timely matter. Worst haircut I've ever had. Sat down, and she proceeded to try to comb through the gel in my hair instead of rinsing it out. She said she'd have to rinse it out at the end anyway so no point in doing it twice. Had to keep my mask on which was fine but she kept haphazardly striking her comb against my head and snagging my mask. Not a big deal but she's so the same on my ears the whole time which was painful. It's like she wasn't even looking. She cut my hair in a few min and the parted it and slicked it down with the gel still in it. She had me take a look with her mirror and it looked ok from what I can see I'm that styling. When I checked out I realized I sat down at 7pm, and checked was out the door at 7:08. I've never had a cut that fast in my life and started to get nervous she didn't do a good job. Got home, and showered. Then looked at this mess in the mirror. She literally didn't cut 1/2 my head. Only 1 side and part of the top is cut with the other part of the top, the other side, and the back all long. My hair is very easy to cut and all I wanted was a trim all the way around.
