When visiting Chicago I needed to make sure I got the full experience by trying a chicago style hot dog. I searched YELP to find the best place around. I decided to skip out on all the highly rated hot dog places near all the touristy stuff downtown and took a bus to Flub A Dub Chubs instead. This place is pretty tiny and definitely a hidden gem. I ordered the Flubby, the Jimmy Chili Cheese dog, and tater tots. Both were so so good. The Flubby in particular was really delicious. It has all the fixins (tomatoes, pickles, peppers, relish, and mustard). At first glance paying $8 for a hot dog sounds ridiculous but when in Chicago it's a must try for sure! The good: Basically no wait for Saturday lunch. I ordered the Woody burger and it was really good! The portebello mushrooms had a crispy coating. You get the choice of a pretzel bun or regular bun (I opted for the standard one). I had my burger cooked medium and it was perfect. The fries on the side were really good too. I walk by here all the time and decided to stop by here after work for dinner. You have to walk down a set of stairs in order to enter the place. There was hardly anyone there when I came. Each night they have a diffetent special. Last night (Wednesday), they had a build your own sandwich with either fries, tator tots, or a salad for $10. You had the option to choose your meat, cheese, sauce, side, and 2 toppings. I ordered The Roe burger, which is one of their specials and I was able to get the special $10 price. It had thick beef patty that was grilled with cheddar cheese, avocado,and bacon on a pretzel bun with tator tots. Wow! This burger was huge and so good. Very flavorful. The avocado and bacon were nice touches. People who love ketchup on their hot dog, beware of getting your picture taken and put on the wall of shame! I'll definitely be back! read more

Tonight, I had registered and placed my first order. The entire process was very painless. By the time I had arrived (no more than 10 minutes) my order was ready. Guess what... it was all correct. I really wanted to like this place, but I think it's more that I'm not a huge fan of the Chicago hot dog, which is why I wasn't thrilled by the food here. Anyways, the owner was really nice about explaining the menu to us and the food was prepared and ready in less than 10 minutes. I ordered the flubby with tater tots and cheese sauce- the beef sausage was delicious and I really liked it. I just wasn't a fan of the Chicago style, as it was overwhelmingly sour (just take my review with a grain of salt on that recommendation). Tater tots and cheese sauce were great and it made me reminisce on some good high school lunches. Overall, I can see why so many people like this place. Flub's is on the short list of places that make a distinguishable hotdog. Big Guys Sausage Stand & Fatso's also come to mind. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but Flub's knows what they're doing. They also have one of the best short order burgers in the area. Burgers are well seasoned, have a nice flame grill char and will satisfy the burger minimalist or the diner that prefers to load up on toppings. The staff is friendly and they usually throw in a free soda when I order. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the mood for a hotdog or an above average burger. This place is ah-mazingly good! We had the Chicago style, chili cheese dog and the Rueben one. We all agreed the Chicago style one was the best but we also really loved the other too also. As if delicious hot dogs weren't enough, the fries and tater tots were legendary good as well. Perfect amount of crispness with a hint of seasoning to make them perfection. Gotta have a dog when in Chicago! This is my 4th visit to Chicago. Although times are different now, we still had a great time. Since outdoor seating is mandatory we had to find a dog place that accommodated that. Using YELP of course we found Flub A Dub Chubs. I called prior to make sure we could bring the amount of people we had. No issues there. The gentlemen that answered was so nice. We were greeted by a women who took our orders. Very sweet and funny. My husband and I both had the double dog combo- chard with all the delicious fixings. I got tots, he got fries. Another bonus for choosing this place is they have a vegetarian dog option. My sister is vegetarian and also has never had a Chicago dog. She LOVED hers! As we were sitting out front. Not only did the owner come out so did the sweet lady and a guy from the kitchen. Nice little conversations and checking if we needed anything. Very sweet people that made this trip feel as normal as it was the time before. Support your local businesses! Vegan hot dog lovers, this is your place! Visiting from out of town and did extensive research, determined to have a terrific hot dog as part of our Chicago vegan crawl. Flub A Dub won the research phase and our fears of missing out on the "best" began to fade the minute we set eyes on our vegan Chicago dog. Once tasted, the deal was sealed. Party in my mouth! Just terrific and one of the best hot dogs I've ever had, period (I know from my former meat-eating days). The fries are not to be missed and if you're more of a tot person, they were the best I've ever had. Even the fountain drinks were spot-on (a "good" diet Coke can be hard to find!). The atmosphere is so creative and sweet, with hot-dog-themed drawings and a mini-diner vibe. The counter service was impeccable. We were given a free sample of the vegan chili and it did make us glad we didn't muck things up by adding it. Really nice flavor but one area where I would strongly suggest mock meats (Beyond) vs. working with grains. Everything we ordered and ate was just perfect but unfortunately, now craveable. I have driven past this place and never even realized it existed. The name is a little random and I didn't know what to expect while walking down to a basement but I was surprised to see a brightly colored yellow room with hot dog artwork all around. It was a fun surprise. They had a lot of funny and yummy sounding choices for hot dogs. They also offer tots as a side! I was even more surprised when they gave a few tots with the fries. Owners are very sweet and friendly. I had the chili cheese dog with tater tots. Chili is made in-house and tastes delicious. Add some mustard for a nice kick. Tater tots are great. Finally got here and it only took five visits to Chicago. The menu is very clear cut, but you can ask for some customizations. I only like my onions grilled and they were able to make that happen for me. I also used a yelp check-in, so I received a free fountain soda SCORE! The staff were friendly and answered my questions about other items like, was their red onion marmalade the same as the onions that nyc hot dog stands used. It wasn't. While I was waiting on my food, they looked up and printed the recipe to the onions I mentioned. We had funny convo about. They joked about putting it on their menu in my honor. Lol. Also, I stopped in FADC after leaving the supermarket across the street and had purchases in my hand (yeah, I refuse to pay 7 cents for a bag) they were kind enough to give me a bag for free. Definitely worth the trek from downtown if your looking for something a little more unique and old school rather than the usual tourist traps but the real gem is the experience. This basement location serves a superb hot dog with amazing snap and generous toppings with fresh cut fries that were just so perfect on the outside with a melt your heart inside.
