Flying Fish is my favorite restaurant. Ever. Walking in I was blown away by the decor, blue and sophisticated. Many guests were dresses in a nicer casual look, as we were as well. Nice to get away from fanny packs and flip flops at Disney. Right off the Disney Board Walk, we took a walk while waiting on our table & took in the pretty night sky & water. Our server was spectacular, I wanted to bring him home he was so wonderful. He made wine suggestions, but I opted for the blood orange margarita and I kind of hate myself for doing so because no other margarita will ever live up to this one. I ordered a steak on top of asparagus with potatoes and a cream sauce. I ordered another blood orange margarita, soaking in the sweet taste while I could. I will go back, I will have the margarita, and I may cry knowing I won't get another in the near future. read more

When you are weary of the overwhelming, in-your-face Disney fantasy machine, this is the place to come. Unlike the Wolfgang Puck's of Downtown Disney, this branch of the Flying Fish chain from Boston has not sold it's soul to the Mouse. It may have compromised a few ideal in order to feed the throngs, but it prides itself on being a cut above the rest (it takes two Disney full-meal dining credits here rather than one!). The waiter was exceptional, bending over backwards to accommodate my indecisive and somewhat unworldly extended family of nine. I was disappointed to find only vegetarian starters on the menu, but after mentioning this to the waiter, we were delivered a quite excellent veggie platter, server on four coordinated square dishes. Sure - there may have been a hole stick of butter spread between the artichoke and mushroom couscous, buttered carrots and fingerling potatoes, sauteed spinach, and assorted string beans. I was easily persuaded to "imagine" that here's no such thing as cholesterol. There was a large selection of delicious desserts - everything from ice-cream or three-way-sorbet thru fresh berry zabaione or rice pudding with fruit. The polenta pound cake with white peach gelato and grilled white peaches in a crispy glaze was quite excellent, as was the fig tart with ice-cream. As good as it gets (for Disney). If I consider this restaurant in relation to all other restaurants on Disney property, it would easily get five stars. Alas, I do not exist only in the magical world that is Disney (sadly), and therefore must compare it to all other restaurants I've been to. The food was good: it looked nice, it was cooked well, in most cases it was seasoned enough but not too much. Why, then, am I giving it three stars? Well, there was absolutely nothing inventive or interesting about it. It was fine. And when you consider the location and the varied clientele the company must serve, I think fine is fantastic. We went with a large party a week and a half ago (so since its refurbishment). I tried four of the five appetizers currently on the menu: yellowfin tuna (could have been seasoned a little more), corn-encrusted wild gulf shrimp (yum but one was enough), a tour of the coast (like a steamed seafood dish in a broth), and the kurobuta pork belly (our favorite but a little salty). The bread service was controversial. I believe there is seaweed in the bread which gave it an interesting flavor. Not everyone at the table was a fan. I thought it was fine (nothing to write home about). My husband and I shared two entrees: plancha-seared hokkaido scallops and wagyu filet mignon. The seasoning on both was great as was the cooking (yay for not overcooking the scallops!). I generally like my vegetables less cooked than overcooked, but the veggies that came with the meat were a little too undercooked for me. We didn't finish them. Our dinner companions gave good reviews to the various entrees they tried: maine lobster nero pasta, ocean's bounty sustainable fish (it was tile fish that night), bison strip loin, and the wood-fired carabineros prawn, chilean sea bass, and key west shrimp. The wine list was good with decent prices on some nice wines by the bottle. Disney's specialty cocktails are always too sweet for me, so I ordered a classic cocktail that wasn't on the menu (a French 75). They made it very well. Those who did order from the specialty cocktail list who were sitting near me all agreed that the cocktails were too sweet. No dessert for us (it was a wedding so we had cake from a different location). The service was generally good, occasionally great. One of the guests mentioned that she was not eating gluten and they brought her a special menu and warm, gluten-free bread. She said it was good (for being gluten-free). The ambiance was wonderful. The lighting and decor were spot-on and there were fun little details everywhere. The copper votive holders had a little flying fish etched in them, the flatware looked like fishtails (but in a sophisticated way), etc. I would say that this is a really good special occasion restaurant to visit while on vacation at Disney. read more

Although it is higher priced, about $50 average per dish, the food was well worth it. Everything we ordered was not only good, it was incredible. The restaurant was recently renovated and I liked the new look. We tried the scallops in squid ink pasta, the Wagyu steak, the swordfish with Mickey shaped pasta for the little one, and the squid with chorizo bomba rice. Everything was phenomenal. Even the Shirley Temple that the waitress made for the little one was "the best she's ever had" and she would know. I would definitely recommend this place for any occasion when you want to eat amazing food, just be prepared for the price. read more

This is on my top 3 favorite restaurants in Disney and only behind Le Cellier. The service as usual is superb, the only draw back at times is if you want to have a nice intimate dining then you won't find it here as it's pretty loud. The food is fantastic. A must try is the Chardonnay-steamed Cape Code Bay Mussels for an appetizer. I always try mussels at different restaurants and the broth on this one is so good. I was dipping the bread in it to get the last drops. For the entree I had the potato crusted Snapper (which they no longer serve). This snapper was moist and very well made. My fiance and I liked it so much we are having it served at our wedding. When in Disney this is a must do!! Be warned though the prices at this restaurant are on the higher side for Disney standards, but so worth it. read more

I've seen this restaurant plenty of times on TV and knew I had to visit. Yes, you do need to make reservations in advance but it's definitely worth it. My hubby and I got to try the: - Calamari and rick shrimp app: great batter and fresh seafood. Amazing! - Crab cake app: two perfectly sized crabmeat balls. Comes with a great sauce and a small bed of slaw - Potato wrapped red snapper: Phenomenal! I really was hesitant about this because I didnt want to believe the hype but you won't regret it!! - Scallops: Divine! Cooked to perfection and the risotto was a delightful side. Researched and decided to give Flying Fish a try since we were at the Magic Kingdom and craving seafood. We took the ferry to Disney Boardwalk which was convenient. We arrived early to our 7:40 reservations but they were able to sit us earlier. The restaurant had an inviting and beautiful decor. The server arrived immediately to get our drink order. I ordered a Cosmo which I returned because it was way to sweet. We ordered the calamari and shrimp which was light and tasty. My daughter ordered the potato crusted red snapper over leeks which she enjoyed. My husband and I ordered the surf and turf which was half order of the red snapper and NY strip. The steak was so tough that we didn't eat it. My husband provided the feedback to server about the steak and resolved the issue immediately by taking off the bill. The general manager also came by to apologize. I think that Flying Fish tries to be an upscale restaurant but it's still a theme based restaurant. It's overpriced and average service. I would suggest going to EddieV or Ocean Prime to truly an upscale seafood restaurant. Although I do have to recognize that the staff is willing to make course correction for any issues. read more

Do not take a table in the "back room" to bless you are very tolerant of sound. The back room has very poor acoustics - the walls and ceiling all reflect sound - it is like eating in a metal box. I think this room remains from before the renovation. Once we were reseated in the main dining area, we could see and hear each other. The service and food (grouper, salmon) were awesome. They have a good wine list - in fact they appeared to have a wine tasting bar near the center of the restaurant on the left. We asked to speak to the chef - the food was so good. He was full of information and gladly shared his skill. The place was half empty after 8:30 so if you can't get reservations - have a snack at the bar next door and then eat at Flying Fish at 8:00. read more

We dined here 2 days ago and although the food was very good and the venue was nice, though a little noisy, this has bothered me ever since. A glass of wine is $11 and up. I always think those kind of prices is appalling but ordered one ($12) because I really enjoy wine with my dinner. The waitress came with the bottle, unscrewed the cap (!) and poured 2 inches of wine. Really??!!! You would think for that price you would get a generous pour. Half way thru our meal she asked if I would like another glass. No, I did not want another $12 thimble of wine. Although we had a lovely time with our family, I doubt we will be back. read more

As someone who is not too familiar with Disney, I was pleasantly surprised at the food options. My mother and I went to Flying Fish the night before the WDW Half Marathon and I took full advantage of this excuse to carbo-load. The blood orange martinis were delish. I could have had several more. The food was also excellent. We started out with a cheese tray which came with a little pamphlet explaining what we were eating. Very cute. Thank you Disney for worrying about food allergies. Seafood restaurants are dicey places for my mom, who has a very serious allergy to scallops. The chef came out to talk to her about menu options and guaranteed that her meal would be cooked on fresh pans/grill/oil and not be anywhere near scallops. She went with the potato wrapped snapper (heavenly) and I went with the pork tenderloin (wow!). Desert was also very good. Everything was fresh, tasty and well presented. Our server was wonderful. My water was never less than half-full and he was very knowledgeable about the menu. The prices are a little steep, but about what I am used to paying at a similar high end restaurant outside of Mouseville. If it weren't for the fact I was loading up on calories, I would have been just as happy splitting an entree. I find the portions pretty large. read more

When I asked my mother what she wanted for dinner after arriving in Orlando, she told me to pick a "very nice place" that wasn't too far from our hotel (the Yacht Club). Fine, Flying Fish Cafe it is, because she doesn't like buffets, so Cape May Cafe was out of the question. We arrived early for our reservation, and even though there were empty tables, they wouldn't let us sit until our actual reservation time. Whatever, but kind of odd, as there were lots of empty tables as we were taken through the restaurant to our table. Our server was a woman named Rebecca from Hong Kong. She was NOT NICE at all - she just acted so annoyed and hoity-toity the entire time (she'd come by and be like, "How is the food? Great." and walk away before we even gave much of a response). Had she been nicer, we would've maybe given FFC 4 stars, but seriously what kind of Disney establishment is this?! I've seen nicer people at McDonalds! Starters: my mom and aunt LOVED the pumpkin bisque with bits of seafood. Husband liked the yellowtail tartare. So far so good. Entrees: I LOVED the potato-wrapped snapper with the veal demi-glace. The only thing that was bad about this was the leek fondue; it was just overkill. I think it would've been nice to have simple green beans or a rice pilaf with the fish. Husband also liked the salmon, and my mom liked the special of the day, but said it was much too salty. My aunt ordered scallops, and while those were cooked perfectly, her risotto was too salty as well. This meal really had potential, and overall was an okay way to kick off our Disney World trip, but the bad service combined with the heavy-handed seasoning of our dishes dropped it down to 3 stars. read more

While I'm sure there are better restaurants in the Orlando area, Flying Fish Cafe can't be beat if you're staying at the Walt Disney World Resort. I came here a week ago with my boyfriend for a special date night, and everything about our meal was perfect. The atmosphere is incredibly romantic and dimly lit and has an interesting theme. You can see the kitchen staff preparing meals over stove top, and the noise factor isn't too bad. Our waiter was probably the best waiter we've ever had, period. He was attentive, charismatic and answered every question we had. Onto the food - We had the vegetarian sushi, which was probably the best sushi I've ever had in my life...which is surprising, since I've had sushi in California, too. For my meal I had the scallops. Perfectly cooked, not rubbery at all. Just very tender and I could cut through them like butter. My boyfriend had the snapper, which was also delicious and perfectly prepared. The seasonal cocktails? Do NOT miss them. The pumpkin spice cocktail and the pear cocktail - again, best I've ever had. And they're priced about the same as out in the real world (which was a surprise.) The magical star cocktail? Fun and cute, but also VERY tasty. You can get this cocktail pretty much anywhere at Walt Disney World, but seriously, yum. For dessert we had the boardwalk concession sweets. VERY cute and tasty, without being too much food. We left full but not uncomfortable. Overall, it was a very good experience and we will definitely be back. This place is ideal for dates, girl's night out or if you want to propose to your girlfriend. I had the pork tenderloin. Probably an odd choice since they are a seafood restaurant but my G.F is a vegetarian so I am always eating fish. Decided to switch it up and try this out since the waiter recommended it. It was tender and had flavor. The truffle laced mac really good and they give you quite a bit. Also came with asparagus that was seasoned just right and had a good crunch. My girlfriend got the Ginger and Teriyaki Char-crusted Yellowfin Tuna. She really enjoyed it and was pleased. We ended with a dessert, the bread pudding. It was once of the best desserts I have ever had at Disney. A resounding "meh" Flying Fish is located in Disney Boardwalk resort. To be honest, it wasn't our first choice for dinner that night, but our intended restaurant was overbooked, so we ended up there. The host was rather curt, demanding us to come back 40 minutes later just to get our names on the waitlist (why can't he just take our names then and tell us how long the wait is, i have no idea). A trip around the resort and a drink later, we returned (after making a reservation online). The dinner was good, but not particularly exceptional. First, what kind of high end seafood restaurant does not have a raw bar? The yellowfin tuna is of good quality, but the compressed watermelon overpowered the dish a bit with its sweetness. The figs and serrano ham is OK, but nothing stands out. The lobster neo pasta is very good, and the amount of lobster is decent, but i expected a bit more pasta to go with the dish. We had the cheese plate for dessert and while the cheese is not bad, the portion is again small. I wont say i hate my meal, but there are plenty of better options inside various Disney resorts at the same price point. read more

Wow...expected more from a $40 an entrée seafood restaurant. Trout, red snapper and tuna..yawn. Really? In Florida? What kind of "fish" restaurant has no clams, no crab, no oysters, no lobster- they do have crab cakes...sigh. I had the "signature" potato wrapped snapper. The fish itself was fantastic, however it was wrapped in a burnt fried potato wrap and sitting in a powerful burnt-flavored sauce; both overpowered the fish such that they could have put a piece of a flip-flop in it and it would taste the same. Once rescued from the shell it was very good. My wife had the scallops...they were run-of-the-mill and tasted like they were in Alfredo sauce. Add 2 glasses of wine and you're down $120. This was easily the most disappointing experience had on Disney property. Go next door to Kouzzina and get some great food. If you want great seafood (swordfish, grouper etc) go to the Blue Zoo down the way inside the Swan- ate there the next day- WOW! Service was great though! read more

Being a south Florida resident I grew up going to Disney all the time. Typically food is known to be lacking quality and overpriced. On a recent trip with the BF I did some research and found the Flying Fish cafe. We were staying at the swan so we were able to walk over to the boardwalk directly. Now not only was this the best meal I've ever had a disney the food and service made it one of the top 5 meals I've ever had. I can't remember the last meal I had that was so great. We made the reservation through the app and we're seated timely. Our waitress Theresa was awesome. She was on the ball and very knowledgeable on the menu, wines etc. We started with the mussels as and app and ordered a bottle of wine (excelsior). The mussels were cooked in an amazing pesto sauce. We used the table bread to sopp it up it was delicious. For our meals I had the "surf and surf" which was a soft shell crab on top of a piece of grouper. The BF got the chefs special the steak and potato wrapped snapper. It was all so good. I'm not the biggest fan of soft shell crab and I couldn't get enough. The BFs snapper was awesome and the steak was good but the crust on it was VERY salty. I definitely wouldn't be able to eat that as my main dish so glad he got the combo. For dessert we had the creme Brulee which was raspberry flavored and bc I told the waitress we were celebrating my BFs Graudation with his MBA they gave us two glasses of champagne on the house! I'd probably give Flying Fish four stars if it was easier to get to. If you stay in the northern empire like I do the Boardwalk is a difficult place to connect with. However, if you stay at the Epcot resorts it's not as bad. I like Flying Fish and always have. It's not the kind of seafood restaurant that makes me say "WOW!" but I am always satisfied with their preparation. I think one of the things I like most about Flying Fish is that the menu changes more often than other Disney restaurants -or at least it feels like it does. Just about every appetizer is good but I think the mussels are my favorite. For the main course the salmon is good (but not as good as the salmon served at Artist Point in the Wilderness Lodge) as is the yellowfin tuna loin. Desserts are kind of hit and miss. Sometimes the desserts are great and other times they are forgettable. read more

Flying fish for birthday dinner tonight, and it was PHENOMENAL, Izzi was an amazing server, started with the mussels wasn't a drop of sauce left on the plate. I had the octopus, sea bass, and Florida shrimp and it was the best grilled octopus I've ever had! She got the wagyu filet and said it was the best she ever had, and the seasonal veggie set with golden and red beets and rainbow cauliflower with leeks and sugar snap peas sounded so good we had to split one. There was nothing left on either plate! Highly recommend Flying Fish especially with all the special offers going on there right now. read more

We went here for our first "fancy" meal of our trip to Disney World. Mistake! Nothing else could measure up! We had our "Just Engaged" buttons on so our fabulous waiter gave us free champagne to start off with. It was prosecco which is my favorite. We started our meal by splitting a salad and their famous crab cake. They were nice enough to split the salad in two portions, one for each of us. In Philly they probably would have charged us extra for that! :) Both were really delicious. The salad had a really creamy, flavorful bleu cheese on it. The crab cake was full of meat, not too much filler and had a great homemade remoulade on top. Great yummy start! I got scallops with risotto for my entree. The scallops were cooked perfectly and had a great crust. The risotto was incredible. Really creamy and sprinkled with proscuitto cracklins and artichokes. T had tuna with an Asian spin. I'm not exactly sure what else it came with but the tuna was sushi grade and cooked rare and perfect. He really enjoyed it. For dessert we got a trio of chocolate desserts. There was a bread pudding, a flourless cake and milk chocolate creme brulee. The bread pudding and cake were both decadent and delicious but the creme brulee? I wanted to marry the pastry chef just so I would have access to that dessert every day. If there weren't people present I would have licked the bowl. My only complaint was that the serving was too small! Incredible and totally worth the calories. This was my third trip to Flying Fish and I've always had a great experience. We were very fortunate to not have any kids close by but it's touch and go in that regard, but that's the risk you run in Disney World. Highly recommended. read more

Both my father-in-law and I ordered and both steaks were flavorless, lifeless, tasteless pieces of dried fish floating in a potato soup sauce. Worst execution of a Berrie Blanca sauce (more like potato chowder) I've seen, but after tasting dry fish, the purpose of the sauce was to conceal the poorly cooked fish. This place spent too much money on the renovations and not enough on the menu/ingredients or cooking staff. Not worth any amount of money. read more

GET THE RED SNAPPER. This was our first dining reservation and first Disney World experience all together and I was floored by their food. We came an hour earlier than our reservation but they promptly seated us (around 5:45pm). Upon being seated, the waiter asked us if we had a Disney Dining Plan (I guess they need to read disclosures for them and we were not) and found out it was our first time at Disney World. He proceeded to call me a princess (Doh!) and said to get used to it because we're now in the magical world of Disney. While I got the red snapper, my husband got the filet. Both were delicious but I did enjoy the steak at Cinderella's Royal Table and Le Cellier better BUT Flying Fish's steak was still delicious. For appetizers, we got their famous crab cake. This appetizer is perfect for two. Be warned that the sauce was a little on the spicier side but the spiciness does not linger. It's a nice touch to the seafood flavor and definitely adds to the experience. Would I go again? Absolutely. This place is definitely on my MUST VISIT list for Disney World. read more

Not just the best restaurant in all of Disney, the best in Orlando. This place brings it in every single way. Nice décor. Great service. Great presentations. Fantastic food. If you truly want fine dining- this is your place. My only nits, and there aren't many, were the wait, even though we had a reservation, and the fact that they sat us by the wait station (the third time in a row at a Disney restaurant- WTF?!?). But beyond that, our waiter was a real pro. Quick. Spot on with his recommendations. Attentive to the kids. He literally made me forget about whatever I was bitching about before. Either that or it was the mussel app- WOW!!! So good. So fresh. And fresh is really the theme here- all of the fish is incredibly so, and impeccably prepared to order. The salmon entrée was literally the best I've ever had. Such a complex layering of flavors and textures- including mustard, which admittedly I am a sucker for. The tuna entrée my wife had was also quite good. The only miss, and by miss I mean "just okay," certainly not bad, was the scallops and risotto. Skip it. It sounds better than it is, and it was our only stray from the waiter's recos. Wine was also a fantastic complement. We had the white Chateauneuf du Pape. And for dessert, both the chocolate thing and the bread pudding were superb. But being that I am partial to bread pudding, I found myself gobbling it down like Jabba to a frog. Now I know some of you might still be skeptical of a Disney restaurant being that excellent, but take it from a hardcore NYC foodie, this place is the real deal. It is NOT a tourist spot. One's expectations can never too high with the Disney restaurants. They are rarely awful, never great, always expensive. And that would be the case at the Flying Fish. The food was just, well, fine - uninspired flavors, but well presented, and of decent quality, but what a price for fine. I will say the service was decent, not exceptional, but decent. The members of our party who had desert were very happy with that portion of the meal. All in all, from the places I've visited around Disney in the last few years, this is one of the better spots to eat - but far from anything I'm in a hurry to get back to. Disney gets a bad reputation for food. But let's be honest, after standing in the heat and paying close to $15 for frozen chicken fingers and cold fries, you're anything less than impressed. There is however a completely different side to Disney Dining beyond quick service and chaotic character dining. It's a side that boasts culinary expertise and innovation - all right in our backyard. Flying Fish Café at Disney's Boardwalk is somewhat of a gem hidden wedged between the boisterous ESPN Zone and the walk-up pizza stand. Their main menu includes everything from Shellfish and Andouille Sausage Filé Gumbo to a Fragrant Asian Spice-crusted Yellowfin Tuna "Fillet." The real surprise here though is the unassuming counter that faces into the kitchen. This wide granite "Chef's Counter" is reserved for the Chef's Tasting Wine Dinner, a nightly event that pairs wines perfectly over five courses. A typical night may include a lamb shank and herbes de Provence-crusted lamb loin with heirloom gold beets and Florida peaches and Tupelo honey for dessert. While the food is amazing, the company is even better. There's no dining experience quite as immersive as one where you can watch your food being hand-crafted and then interact with the chef before you indulge. Mingling with the Chef is a treat because you get to see the heart and passion behind his creation. But really, the food does the talking, because after 5 courses of perfectly paired food and wine you'll already be dreaming of your next visit. The evening concludes with a grand dessert and photos of your party and the Chef, all delivered and signed before you walk out the door. Best food in DWD so far this trip. The restaurant is beautifully appointed and the smell of the mesquite grill is delightful. The menu is creative but a bit difficult to decipher. The service was adequate but could have been more attentive. Onto the food, the potato bread was addictive. The Caesar Salad was good, lobster cake was tasty. Even the kids meals looked good. My tuna well really nice and the mahi mahi was great. steak was good but did not like the rub that much. Get here early or make a resy to avoid a long wait and the crowds. We came here for the mussels and were not disappointed. Fabulous. As my starter, I had the Lobster Bisque Soup. It's was excellent. My husband ordered the cheese board and said it was very good. Then, we shared the mussels as our entree. They are the best. We love to dip the bread into the broth the mussels come in....... just not the horrible seaweed bread ( yes, folks, SEAWEED bread) that is brought to the table. This bread is smelly and bitter with large chunks of bitter dry seaweed in it. We tried to eat it but couldn't.....and we were not alone. Tables on both sides of us were talking about the weird bread. We asked for just a piece of bread and they came with a hamburger bun to use with our broth. Thank heavens! Wow Moment. I rarely have those, but I did here. It started off with a Disney-esque establishment -- good table spacing, brighter lights, colorful decor, etc. I didn't mind since I was dining with friends, and intimacy wasn't top of the requirements list. My perception changed when the food arrived. OMG. I ordered the scallops atop a risotto with a side of sauteed spinach with lemon. I expected the light fare of a traditional scallops dish. Instead, I got the MOST DELICIOUS risotto I have ever eaten. The four scallops were impeccably cooked and merely a topping to some of the most flavorful rice I've tried. I continued on to dessert, not because I'm a dessert lover but because I was curious what else this kitchen could do. Another Wow Moment. I had the marscapone with poached pears, unsexily dubbed the "chef's no-sugar dessert." It was insanely delicious. This place is excellent by any standards. Being from the New York metro area I'm used to being able to get great food in restaurants (though we do pay dearly for it) and this didn't dissapoint. The dishes were flavorful & beautifully presented and the service was top notch on both visits. But it's not cheap and if you're on the Disney Dining Plan you will pay double meal credits since it's a "signature" restaurant. My wife and I also really loved the decor in the restaurant. Very imaginative with many nice details in terms of the materials and finishes, lighting, and so on. All of this made for a great atmosphere and a really hip-feeling place. Be warned, it's hard to get in on a busy night. You might want to make a reservation. read more

I can't recommend this place. Between the eye rolling waitress (because we needed time to look over the menu) and my wife's horrid meal....meh. We had... Calamari. It was ok. The sauce is odd and has the consistency and look of thick steak sauce. Skip it. Caesar salad. This was ok, but very mayo flavored..not much heat or anchovy. Tomato caprese. Really good. Perfect tomatoes. Potato crusted snapper. Nasty. The crust was a very, very dark brown and was not crisp at all. The whole thing was swimming in sauce. Skip it. NY Strip. This was fine. Nothing special, but not bad. Scalloped potatoes. Very good. Kid pasta. A joke for what you pay. Wait staff. As I said, eye rolling lady that didn't want to be there. The Flying Fish Cafe is a very loud and crowded restaurant on the lackluster Disney Boardwalk. We made our reservations over five months ago and back then, the only time we could get was 7:45. After arriving at Disney's Boardwalk, walking it twice, and realizing there was not much to it at all, we tried to get in to the restaurant early. I approached the woman standing behind a podium outside FFC and asked if they could possibly seat us any earlier. She got on her headset and inquired within. Before we knew it, we were let in a whole hour early. Thank you so much!! Sadly, this was the best part of the evening. Our waiter was a nice man from Casablanca. He explained much of the menu in detail and highly recommended the Surf 'n Surf -- a flounder resting atop some crabmeat. I took his recommendation and looked forward to a dish I would not ordinarily order. In the meantime, he brought my fiancée her Pineapple Upside Down Martini. She greatly enjoyed her drink as I continued to ponder over what seemed to be a very complex and intriguing wine list. I eventually settled on a Rosso Di Montalcino called Dei. I very much looked forward to it. I looked forward to it so much! Forward I was looking... And then I looked forward some more. The restaurant was extremely busy (but then again, all fine dining restaurants at Disney always are) so I gave them a pass for awhile. We had the crab cake for an appetizer. It looked appealing and it was fun to slide it in the red and green sauces on the plate but the taste was nothing special. I felt like we could have eaten a similar crab cake anywhere else. Even if it was something special, I couldn't enjoy it thoroughly as I was looking for our waiter in-between bites to inquire about my wine but he seemed to have disappeared. When a different waiter plopped our main dishes in front of us and ran away, I did not even have a chance to ask him about my wine. So I started eating my flounder as I continued turning my head to look for our main waiter. When I finally spotted him, I told him I never received my wine. He apologized and went off to get it. When he came back, he did give a generous pour and apologized again for the lateness. So at least he was trying to make up for the mistake. I appreciated that. I was excited for my Surf 'n Surf. I actually left a vague tip on Yelp just after ordering it that said, "Surf's Up!" Once it arrived and I dug in, I was immediately bored. It had no taste. I couldn't remember the last time I had flounder though, so I wasn't at all certain if this was how it was supposed to be--bland and uninventive. My fiancée took a bite and made a disgusted face. She liked it even less than I. Her dish, however, was much better. She had the scallops atop a nice risotto. I had a good portion of her food (that's usually how it goes) and I was very thankful that at least one of our dishes was worth talking about! For dessert, we both had decent cappuccinos and we split the Sinful Chocolate Indulgence. Keeping with the disappointing theme of my Surf 'n Surf, the so-called "Indulgence" did not deliver the excitement that its name promises. To the waiter's credit (again), he brought us a surprise second dessert, on the house. It was the PB&J Crème Brûlée. I love peanut butter and could not really taste it as the raspberries do overpower this dessert. But hey, it was free. Here's another helpful tip: The Flying Fish Cafe doesn't have a bathroom! You have to physically leave the restaurant and walk next door to the candy store if you need to use the facilities. I thought the waiter was joking when he told me that. But sadly, the joke is on the customer. Heartwarming note that has nothing to do with the restaurant: While I was in the men's room, I overheard a young boy tell his father, "Thanks for bringing me to Disney World, Dad." Awww! Priceless. Though I will not return, I do appreciate our waiter's friendly attempts to curb my disappointment. I don't blame him for his inattentiveness. Like other nice restaurants at Disney, I have noticed that they seem to understaff. I have a feeling the waiters at FFC work too many tables and therefore, things tend to fall through the cracks. But of course, that doesn't make up for a bland dish, especially one so highly touted as their Surf 'n Surf. read more

Rating: 3.5 Let me start by saying that I love everything Disney. Disney can do no wrong in my book and Flying Fish Cafe is a great example of this. I booked this reservation using mydisneyexperience.com a few months ago. I was running the Princess Half Marathon that weekend so I wanted my pre-run dinner to be something light (no carbo-loading here, it affects my stomach too much). I decided on Flying Fish Cafe because their menu is light and because I LOVE Disney's Boardwalk. My reservation was for 6:05 pm but by the time we got to the restaurant we were in starvation mode. They were kind of enough to seat us immediately (5:30 pm). As usual with Disney, the service was spectacular. Our server, Bob, was friendly, funny and simply amazing. The restaurant is nicely decorated and very clean. I don't like that they share a bathroom with the candy store next door. I was surprised that a restaurant like this wouldn't have it's own bathroom. Oh well. The food was good, not amazing. For the ridiculous price I was expecting to be swept off my feet with flavor. I ordered the yellowfish tuna tartar appetizer and my boyfriend had the Ceasar salad. The tartar was okay; I think it lacked a little flavor. Perhaps they could add a sweet element to the dish. Maybe some pineapple or mango to make it a little more tropical. My entree was the Oak-grilled Maine Sea Scallops. This dish was quiet delicious. My BF had the Char-crusted Angus New York Strip Steak, which he ordered at medium temp. This dish came overcooked, unfortunately, but it was still good. My daughter ordered the Mickey pasta and steak skewers. Her steak was also overdone. She asked for medium and got extra well-done. I really wanted to try the Blood Orange Margarita but didn't want to risk a possible hangover the next day. Overall we had a nice experience. Uninspiring food at a place with a loud and too bright atmosphere during dinner time. Went here for dessert to celebrate a birthday with some coworkers and the place was not packed at all - perhaps should have been a hint to us. The strawberry dessert plate ($10) sounded great but was disappointing when it came. It came with a strange little strawberry popsicle (imagine sucking on this in front of your boss), a small portion of weak strawberry shortcake, and some big but sour strawberrys with a side of ordinary chocolate sauce to dip into. Bottom line: Maybe convenient on the Disney Boardwalk but there are a lot better restaurants to try in Orlando than this one. Service was friendly though. read more

OH WOW is all I can say. My husband and I ate here, and decided to splurge on the Chef's Tasting. It seems pricey, but if you are a foodie, it won't disappoint! They seat you at the kitchen open in to watch while you eat. We had 5 amazing courses paired with a great wine each time. The chef (Tim) comes out every single time to serve the dish and tell you what he has prepared for you and you learn about why they paired the specific wine. They also take your picture with the chef, and he autographs the menu/picture. Also located at the boardwalk if you are feeling up to it and want to take in a nice walk or grab another drink. read more

Flying Fish Cafe has now made it to our top favorite places in Disney World. Some of the best fish dishes i've had have been here and we've always left completely stuffed and satisfied. If you have reservations it might be easier to park at the Boardwalk Hotel and walk down unless you are already in Epcot in which the back entrance leads you right to it. Everything you order here will be excellent. The Potato wrapped snapper which is a staple is divine. The service of course is top notch. The only downside is it's a little cramped and loud inside. But what part of Disney World isn't? Be sure to get reservations of course! read more

Im always reluctant about resort restaurants, but i was very pleased with this place. It's a little campy (it is disney after all) and the staff is super friendly to a point where it's a little awkward (the chef even came out to chat with us before the food came out) but it was definitely a lovely dinner. Everyone at the table had a different fish dish and they were all delicious and fresh. It's a little pricey, especially when you remember that you are essentially at a theme park but totally worth it. read more

Thank you Flying Fish for making us feel like VIPs. I love sitting at the bar so we glided by the hostess to find some seats. We were approached by your manager. Instead of making us feel like we broke all the rules by seating ourselves he brought us to 2 great seats in front of the open kitchen, I ordered the Champagne Flight and LOVED it. I wish all restaurants offered this. We were also offered a sample of onion soup and a fritter. Yummy and totally surprised us. Nice touch. My friend is a vegetarian so we talked over our options. Seems there could be some improvement with this part of your menu. We ordered the pasta without shrimp. We were later asked if we were allergic to shellfish as the pesto sauce was made with a shellfish broth. A Big OOPS on your part. And so our main dish took double the time because we wanted another sauce. Being in Disney for business, it was great to find a place with an extensive menu and an ADULT decor. We also love watching our home teams play while out of town and were disappointed to find the bar sans TV. I agree it was a bit pricey but we had a great meal and enjoyed the ambiance. read more

One of my favorite meals - potato-wrapped red snapper. So delicious!!! It was done very well! A nice modern decor I was really amazed by it. Makes the atmosphere wonderful! Service was at the top fast and friendly. Loved the orange margarita, drank few of those:) they have a very good wine list too. I will be back and next time keep place for desert!!! read more
