Solid South Indian restaurant in a strip mall - had breakfast here this morning with a colleague. We both ordered madras coffees and dosa's - masala for him and spicy paneer for me. My dosa was delicious and flaky and the coffee hit the spot, and he enjoyed his meal as well. Happy to return.

This was honestly one of the worst experiences I've ever had. The sambar was completely tasteless -- it literally looked and tasted like flavored water. The dosa was awful, with dark, mold-like spots on top that made it impossible to eat. Even the coffee was terrible, and I'm still not sure how someone can mess up something as simple as that. Please avoid this place at all costs. I wish I had.

I love IDLI! Anyone who knows me, who's even remotely close to me knows how much I love idli. When my friends anf family find out that I'm visiting them - they make sure atleast one of my meals is idli. So imagine my excitement to try this place out. I was severely disappointed. The idlis were not worth it. They tasted like these weren't properly fermented. - were a bit hard, the magic on top of idli had no magic at all! Least of all, they didn't honor the yelp code. That's fine - I wouldn't mind over paying if the idlis were good! This was just an epic waste of my time and money. If I could give half a star, I would have.

Ambiance : casual/quick. Was easy for us to find a spot to sit during peak lunch, but the place was pretty busy! Food: food was fresh/hot, but could have been more spicy. We even ordered some of the spiciest options!

They have expanded since my last visit. Last time around I tried the masala dosa, The cheese uttapam and Vada. The dosa was the best of the lot, the Vada was a bit hard, but the sambhar covered up for it, the Uttapam was tasteless n tough. This time around I tried the Rava masala dosa, as the picture to pics it was soggy with minimum flavors, The saving grace was the the coconut chutney and the masala tea!! Along with the quality even the quantity I shrinked down, the sambhar was all but 5 spoons. I really want to come back and try the other South Indian dishes but there is no reason enough for me to drive all the way there.

Thanks for being the only Indian breakfast place in all of Houston. The dosa was delicious and I devoured the Idli. Sambar was different than I'm used to, but tasted amazing. There's nothing like that spice first thing in the morning. Samosas, not pictured, we're a super bonus, flavors on point. Wish it had chutney with it though. This place is nestled in a shopping plaza on Richmond off Gessner and well worth the drive for me. I'll be coming back for the Lunch Thali. Ordered through Yelp via Grub Hub which made it hot, fresh and easy to pick up. Y'all keep making delicious foods and I'll spread the word!

Great dosas and idlis! I tried the magic masala dosa which is stuffed with seasoned potatoes, as well as the healthy oats dosa and the Rava dosa. The dosas were generous in their portions, and came with 2 types of sambar. The idlis were also good--kind of like steamed rice cakes. I didn't think they were as good as the dosas, but I'm unsure of how they're supposed to taste. Would recommend coming back!

We ordered magic masala Dosa, healthy oats Dosa and Rava Dosa. All the dosas tasted amazing. Portions are huge but not for Sambar. Though you can ask for additional sambar. We also ordered 2 idlis since the place is named after idlis - we got one Kanchipuram idli and another one that had potato stuffing. I wasn't happy with the potato one but kanchipuram was nice. Though the place is named after idlis, the owner couldn't suggest a signature idli. The chutney was not what you'd expect a coconut chutney to taste like. Will surely recommend dosas and go back for Dosas.

We were looking g for an authentic chai tea and found this restaurant. The customer service was great! Super friendly and quick. The vibe was so calm and peaceful. We loved the tea! We decided to try Indian food for the first time and loved it! We will be back to try different things next time. They accept card and cash. You order at the front and then pick a table to sit at. You also leave your plates on the table when leaving and they pick up. We weren't sure of that as we looked around for a trash can but saw everyone leave their plates on the table.

Definitely a must try for Idli lovers. I haven't seen so much for variety in Idli in states anywhere else. They have got all the best versions of Idli. Tried magic Idli, blazing fiery idli and healthy oats idli.

This is a decent idli and dosa place in Houston dot surprisingly they are open at 7 AM every day which helps you to get a quick breakfast in the morning. The Idlis are really good and have a lot of variety. Good to try out if you want to have a South Indian breakfast in Houston

Please check this place out! I came here about 6 months ago and it's just as good now as then, if better. They changed the chutney but I like this version better and the Sambar! Holy crap! I am very picky with Sambar unfortunately but this place has the best of any place I've been. So... without further ado, the main review! Food: very good if not the best! Everything has flavor. The fiery Idlis are fiery but I can handle it and so much flavor in each bite. The magic Idlis are my favorite only because I love onions and these have plenty. The stuffed idli were on the more plain side but they are meant to be dipped in the chutney and the pairing is perfect. I really can't say anything bad about the food. I still have to try the dosa but I LOVE the Idlis. Service: top notch! Even though we're in the middle of the Covid-19 scare they were still super friendly, very accommodating, and just all around good people. (Forgot to mention that their Masala Chai is great!) I'll try to come back when I can. PS There are Idlis missing in my pics cause I already started eating before I remembered to take pics. Check them out and I know you won't be disappointed. They are great people and the food is wonderful.

Super yummy. We tried multiple idlis and dosas. All the preparations were great, and the peanut dipping sauce is amazing. Price is right for a lot of food. And the server/hostess was very attentive and helpful (she showed us pictures to help us navigate the menu). Only docking a point because I feel like they need to sell some Veggies to accompany all those carbs. Stir fried greens, dal, cauliflower, something to break up the heavy breadiness of the dishes. Otherwise it feels more like snacking than a meal. read more

We had an event at my home (45 people) and decided to cater Flying Idlis with a live dosa station along with appetizers. It was absolutely amazing from the setup/clean up to the overall live food experience to the taste and quality of the food. The masala onion cheese dosa was delicious along with the spicy chutney. The three types of idlis and samosa for appetizers were fantastic. The sambar was the best I have had in Houston - very flavorful. Never been to a restaurant mainly dedicated to idlis; it was a cool experience. They have a limited selection of dosas but their main attraction is their masala idlis. It's part of a giant strip mall so it was difficult to find. Plenty of parking nearby. We initially got the masala idlis which were not bad. But for our second round, we asked for the idlis to be fried. That hit the spot! The fiery idlis fried with the chutney were amazing! I also had the rava dosa which was soggy and not that impressive. I have been to this place multiple times. But, this visit was after a long gap and was very disappointed. The two reasons why i liked this place was because they open early and they have yummy food options. I ordered a kanjivaram idli which was yummy, a little dry. The dosa was very disappointing, it could taste the over used oil. I hope they can work a little on their quality and get back at it. read more

This is actually my 3rd time back in a few weeks, anytime I am in the area I drop by for my hearty protein packed breakfast that is made to order. Vegan options are available upon request. Service is always friendly. So far I have tried the Magic dosa, friery dosa, magic idlis, stuffed idlis, & the floating idlis. Love this wall in the hole place. Think a tiny ordering window, numerous variations of Idlis and Dosas. The food is remarkably tasty, the prices are as low as any sit in place will go. I loved the floating idlis. My wife like the spicy ones with gunpowder. Next time, and there definitely will be a next time, will try the Dosas read more

Wow, best idlis and dosas I've had in my lifetime. I've spent time in LA, NYC, SF, and traveled throughout India, and never have I had such an amazing experience at a restaurant. BEST attribute - food tastes like it was made in India. The spice blends are perfect and the owner is humble and serves his customers with love. The place is as clean as it can be and the atmosphere is welcoming. The dosas are cooked perfectly and the cutneys and sambar are on point. Plenty of convenient parking - what else can one ask for? Delicious!!!! We had a group of 5 people and we ordered Stuffed Idli, Magic Dosa, Magic idli, Yummy Idli, and Bullet Idli. I think my least favorite of all of them would be the Magic Idli because it had lots of onions on it and I don't like onions. The others were delicious and came with 2-3 "sauce" bowls with free refills if requested. My FAVORITE was probably the Stuffed Idli which was filled with potatoes. The service was amazing, the owner's name is Krish and he kept coming by to see if there was anything we needed, offered to split our plates if we were sharing food, explained what each menu on the item was, and he was just an overall really friendly guy. This was my first time trying a South Indian breakfast and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked it. I have a crazy sweet tooth so I love sweet breakfasts but this was a nice, flavorful, and savory change from my regular tastes. My friend ordered a Mango Lassi, it was $3.00 and SO GOOD. Really thick and flavorful for the price. Krish also said that they don't use any frozen foods so it'll take a little while for your food to come out but it's definitely worth it. Maybe ~10 minutes per dish. read more

I decided to go this place after reading it's reviews.. I was surprised.. it's a hidden gem!! The best authentic South Indian anybody could find in States.. Mm! Nothing much to say but good, classic vegetarian South Indian comfort food. My friend and I came here for breakfast, and we split a plate of 4 idlis for $5, and a medium-sized* dosa for $5. All their main idli and dosa plates cost $5-6. Vegetarian friendly restaurant! *It was perfectly sized for my appetite, but smaller than the "average" dosa, since most dosa restaurants give GIANT dosas lol. read more

Best idlis I've had (and they have dosa!). Most other places have idlis with a texture like cornbread or polenta - not bad, but hard. The idlis are really soft and tender here. Their fiery spicy idlis are also a really great twist on the usual idli flavors, and their mango lassi is the freshest I've tasted in Houston. Great place. I discovered it with my brother this morning, and came back for lunch the same day. read more

I absolutely love this place for breakfast, brunch, and lunch! I don't even want to list all the health reasons you should be eating Idlis for breakfast. The only reason you should eat it, is because it is steaming hot and taste soooo good! Yes, this place is a hole in a wall but we are talking about a traditional South Indian breakfast food served on the streets. read more

Customer Service is great they are very quick with getting your order, bringing it out and checking on you to see if you'd like any more chutney etc... The food is amazzzing, portion just enough for a person like me. I got the Fiery Idli- Spicy, the level of spice was definitely exactly what I needed. The nice guy upon delivering my check even remembered what I told him when he first gave me the menu, that since I usually eat Dosas to try the Fiery Dosas next time. Food was hot, fresh and tasty. I can see myself coming here more often for lunch break and introducing others to this hidden diamond. Oh yes and the price is just right! read more

We had no idea what idlis was but wanted to try them! We got there on a Saturday morning and the place was packed! We waited a few minutes for them to clean out a table, and basically ordered all the different type of idlis they have. We probably ordered too much because they started to taste similar towards the end, but they were so good! I'd love to go back for their thali next time. read more

This place offers dosa and idlis. I really enjoyed the dosa here. They were light, crispy, and very satisfying! The ratio of filling (potatoes and onions) to dosa was perfect. I also ordered very mild Fiery Idlis- they were the lightest I've ever had. They're very bland but that's why you dip them in slightly spicy but very flavorful Sambar sauce. The service was fast and thoughtful. I really enjoyed my experience and I will be back again! My husband had the leftover dosa and liked it and that says a lot! read more

I ordered these idles for my boyfriend via postmates. So were from California, we dont get rare food places like this. I ordered the stuffed idlis, comes with tomato chutney, coconut chutney and sambhar. The idlis comes stuffed with potatoes sabji. The one you typically see in Masala dosa dishes. We then I also ordered healthy idlis which he also loved so much. It comes with the chutneys and sambhar. The healthy idly has peas, carrots and more ingredients. We took off 1 star cause they didnt send extra chutney. Even if it was extra we would had paid. read more

Came here with friends to have an Indian breakfast after hearing that it had the best dosas in Houston. Not that I'm an expert on this by any means (I'm not), but I'm a huge lover and appreciator of Indian food. I've never had an idli or dosa before this so it's a first time experience. However, I really enjoyed both dishes. First off, the service is really, really nice. Our servers were very tentative and kind to our party. The other thing is that everything is so reasonably priced! We ordered two dosas (the magic masala dosa and fiery dosa) and two idlis (the magic idli and floating idli). I enjoyed the dosa more but all the dishes were really good! The fiery dosa was not as spicy as I thought it would be (which is good for your lower spicy tolerant friends) and both dosas were just packed with lots of flavor. The idlis come in four pieces, but one piece is pretty filling for me. I have no reference for how this should taste, but it was also very flavorful. The texture of this dish is a lot thicker and dense than the dosa. Both the dosa and idli come with a lentil soup-like dip and a tasty peanut?-based sauce. Overall, I really enjoyed this place and see myself coming back! read more

We liked their blazing fiery dosa which was crisp and their spicy tomato chutney. The kanchipuram idli was bland and not authentic. The bajji was good but the Puri was not cooked well and stretchy.. looks like the dough had more maida (all-purpose flour) than whole wheat flour. The lady at the front desk was warm and friendly. read more

Depending the food you get, it gets the job done for some sustenance to hold you over when you're not sure when your next meal is because you'll be in Galveston for 7 hours riding a float in the Mardi Gras parade.

My husband and I are foodies and have visited this restaurant a few times. We crave it so much that we drive all the way from Pearland for it. The food is delicious and service is great! The blazing masala dosa and fiery idlis are spicy and delicious. The tomato chutney and ginger pickle is a must try! We ended up ordering 3 packs of pickles to take home.
