That did not happen to me, but I saw it happen, to the best of us, while I was there. I am still debating whether this place was worth the wait or not. Their freshly prepared guacamole was pretty on point, so is their quesooo...w chorizo puhlzz! I do appreciate the complimentary chips and dips. Honestly, it does irk me to some extent that most Mexican places in Jax do not offer complimentary chips and dips. It's like we're not really a major city. Anyway, I know it's petty. Between the guac, queso dip, and chips, I was already pretty stuffed. However, I got a couple tacos and from what I remembered, they were all good and decently portioned. First visit here. Came in for a quick birthday lunch with my boss. I ate a Achiote chicken taco and a Meat and Potato taco. Both were very good, not great. I felt like the food could have been hotter (temperature). We also shared a small (not table side) portion of guacamole that was very good. What saved this visit was Morgan the bartender (she was great) and the Sangria Roja. The food was average, at best. When you order the Queso Fundido it is nothing but a bowl of melted cheese with green peppers and tomatoes mixed in. The "crispy tortillas" that come with us are barely warm flour tortillas. Not impressed. The quesadillas took forever to get .... I could have prepared chicken quesadillas for the entire restaurant in the time it took to get 1 order. The guy next to us ordered tacos (meat and cheese only) .... sent it back 3 times and each time they still had potatoes in them. All in all, my advice is.... go enjoy the sangria. read more

Flying Iguana is one of my favorite spots around Neptune Beach to grab a taco. The drinks are stiff and creative twists on Mexican classics (they also have traditional options) and the table side quac is fresh and delicious. My friends and I have coined he term Magic Taco for the rum and coke braised pork belly with watermelon taco. Some may find the combination a little odd but it is great! read more

First off their exstensice choice of tequila was absolutely impressive. It was lined up around the bar and the menu had description of the different types of tequila. The servers were very knowledgeable as well and happy to tell you about the different types. I learnt a lot about tequila while I was there. The resturant itself was very trendy with live music on the weekends. I had the buttermilk fried chicken taco that came with pickled vegetables. It was a great balance between the crispy and moist fried chicken and the tart flavour of the vegetables. For my second fried chicken taco, I got the spicy pepper puree that gave the fried chicken awesome kick. For my last taco, I got The pork belly taco. It was fatty and crunchy, each bite as good as the last. It came with an Asian slaw which was not as memorable as some of the other sides. An overall amazing experience! The food was absolutely amazing! I got the steak tacos and they had to be some of the best tacos I've had. The waitress we had was also very nice and helpful. Great, great, great tacos! When creating the taco menu- they really did a splendid job with what is grouped together within each taco- the carnitas taco, the Baja fish taco, and the pork belly tacos were amazing and I can't wait to come back and try the rest! The table side guacamole is a nice novelty to have, but the person who made ours did entirely too much lime. It may be good to watch who is making it but hopefully they will teach a consistent recipe. The tortilla soup was not very good in my opinion, however, I prefer a more broth based version of the soup with rice so it may be personal preference on this one. The food took awhile to arrive (near 30 mins) but they were slammed and it was worth the wait! The restaurant was very loud (Sunday afternoon-football season) and there wasn't a wait for smaller parties. A brunch menu was offered but none within our party ordered from it. The restaurant was kid friendly - we had a ten year old who loved it and didn't order off a kids menu. The town center area worked out to be a great area to walk around after eating but parking was not as easy as anticipated. Will be back! read more

My favorite tacos and guac in town - with some pretty killer margaritas to boot! Their guac is made in front of you at the table, which I appreciate because it can be customized (more jalapeños? Dislike cilantro? They'll happily fix it just the way you like it.) The amount of guacamole is also satisfying, even for a group. I appreciate that - far too often you get a tiny bowl and everyone ends up fighting over it, but not so here! There is also unlimited salsa (both red and tomatillo green) and the chips are dusted with what I believe is cumin- my favorite. As for the entrees, I'd recommend tacos! They're small enough that you can eat two if you filled up on chips & guac, or three if you're still hungry. My go-to combination is the blackened shrimp, carnitas, and achiote chicken, although I recently discovered the junkyard and it's quickly moving up my list of favorites. I appreciate that they have classics like a fish taco and the achiote chicken and some funky ones like the crispy pork belly with a rum & coke glaze. You really can't go wrong! As for drinks, you really should stick with the classic marg. They have great beers on tap and lots of interesting tequilas, and their mixed drinks are awesome with home grown ingredients, but their margaritas are my favorite. The Flying Iguana is a great house margarita- tastes fresh and always well balanced. If you want a little kick, the Spice of Life is an excellent pepper marg that comes highly recommended. If you can, stop by for brunch too! They have great dishes (I've had their torta desayuno, the chilaquiles, and the pork carnitas hash and can't pick a favorite!) and their 904 cocktail is a perfect drink to pair. I recommend this place highly! The prices are reasonable and the food /drinks are great. The only caution is that it can get pretty loud inside - I prefer to sit outside when the weather cooperates - and that since they don't take reservations, the wait can get pretty long during popular times. read more

We stayed at the beach this weekend and decided to drop by @flyingiguana and it did not disappoint. Everything was completely yummy, the service was top notch and drinks delicious and definitely strong. While they do not have a #glutenfree menu, they do have #glutenfriendly choices and took pains to make sure there was no cross contamination. I did not get even the tiniest bit of a stomachache so KUDOS to them. Highlights: The shrimp tacos were absolutely amazing. Also you have to try the shrimp eschebeche on tostones. Lowpoints: None!
