Today my daughter and I went to visit my mom and get her out of the nursing home for a bit and went to lunch right up the road. My mom has always enjoyed Lola's Burrito & Burger Joint since they first opened and my daughter was craving their empanadas. Today's meal: Mom ordered a beef empanada (by suggestion of her granddaughter) and a side order of black beans (she's always loved black beans). My daughter, of course, order a beef empanada as well with a Mexican Street Corn on the side. Her two favorite items from here. She will literally get this every single time we come. I've been craving burgers, especially since all the fast food CEO's are "fighting" over who has the crappiest, I mean best, burger. I've never had a burger from Lola's before so today I chose the Ragin Cajun burger and I loved it. I do prefer a smash burger, but Lola's patty is a thick and juicy patty cooked to your likeness (I chose medium). Topped with bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a Cajun ranch dressing. This burger was delicious. I have my favorite burgers in Jax, and this can sit in that top 5 for sure. I will definitely be more open to trying other burgers from their menu in the future, but generally speaking, if you don't know, I'm addicted to tacos and tacos are usually my "goto" here. If you haven't had a burger from Lola's and enjoy a nice beefy patty, highly recommend giving them a shot. They have a variety of different ones to choose from. Oh! I almost forgot... the French fries! I usually get chips and queso here, but opted for a side of fries today and man, their fries are great! They use the same seasoning that comes on their chips on the fries and they were cooked and seasoned perfectly and then topped with some parmesan cheese. Good stuff! read more

Lola's is conveniently located in Riverside just a few minutes away from 5 points. I really enjoyed the loaded Nachos and felt like that did a really great job loading up on toppings without creating a soggy mountain of chips to navigate. My Steak quesadilla was filled generously with meat and well balanced with flavors and spices. The staff was also overall attentive, with just a bit of time between needed drink refills. Carried out a shrimp quesadilla this past weekend. Same great taste, same huge size. This Saturday they were crowded. My quesadilla said it was going to be ready at 1:15 when I ordered it online. That's when I arrived and checked in at the bar. I had to wait about 20 minutes beyond that. The chef came out from the back and had all takeout orders at once. I get that they were crowded. I would have shown up later. I was parked pretty far away with people waiting in the car. I'll be back to Lola's I go often. If you're looking for a "fun" place to grab some food in an area with a few drinking spots to hit up afterwards, this might be it. The restaurant has a bar, along with a couple TVs, and the staff seems to be on the younger side. We were seated at a booth. Which wasn't comfortable. The backing moved a lot, so if you have someone sitting behind you leaning back and fourth constantly, you're going to notice it. Service was average at best. We did get our drinks in a timely manner, but the server completely forgot to bring out the appetizer. It wasn't until we finished our food that she realized that. Which was fine because $10 for chips and queso is crazy. I ordered three tacos. The steak, chicken and fish. Definitely a 2/10 and wouldn't recommend. It was all bland. There's definitely a lot of better options for food in this area. It's possible the burrito might be better, but if they're shoving the same steak, chicken, or fish in that. No thanks. read more

Despite being a long-term local, I had somehow never been to Lola's before my husband and I stopped by for trivia recently. I will definitely be back! We started out with The Trio of dips and chips, and I enjoyed all three. The queso was creamy and a good thickness, and the guacamole and salsa were good, too. For my main dish, I got the Sweetie Pie burrito and enjoyed it more than any burrito I've had in ages! I'm not really a meat eater, and finding a good and filling veggie burrito can be hard. This burrito was filling and delicious. The sweet potato filling -- which our friendly server said made her recommend that burrito -- was perfectly prepared to the point where I'd have happily eaten a bowl of it on its own. The rest of the ingredients in the burrito complemented it perfectly, though. The burrito was a hearty size, and I brought about 1/3 of it home, but it was hard to fight the temptation to stuff myself with the whole thing because it tasted so great. (My husband raved about his burrito, too. I think it was the I Bought The Farm?) The vibe instead is casual and a bit divey in a good way. And the prices felt reasonable for what we got. Popped in here a little later in the day to watch the first half of the Jaguars game, got a Diet Coke and some chips and queso. The chips and queso were so good I got a few chicken tacos as well! My friend and I were looking for a good lunchtime deal and decided to go here since they have an all day happy hour on Wednesday. When we got there, there was only one other group of people, so it was pretty quiet. We came here for lunch with the family after a recommendation. We ordered spicy bloody Mary's, the waitress said they were VERY spicy so she made them milder for us, which were fine. Then I ordered the key lime margarita, which was VERY good. For food, I ordered the Winner Winner Chicken Burrito. It wasn't my favorite. The black beans overpowered the entire flavor of the burrito. There was a lot of rice and bean filler. He ordered the Surf and Turf burrito without beans, and it was actually pretty good, still a lot of extra filler but he could taste the flavor. My teen ordered the Burro Burger, he said they had a lot of BBQ sauce on it, caramelized onions and mushrooms. He requested it medium but it was closer to well done, overall he said it was like a regular burger. The kids ordered burger sliders, grilled cheese and Mac n cheese to which they were all satisfied. The Mac n cheese wasn't gourmet or anything fancy. It was box, with shredded cheese on top which is perfect, because that's exactly what kids want. It was a Sunday after church, the place had 3 tables filled and a few people at the bar. The waitress wasn't that attentive but she was nice. First time trying the empanadas here and they were great. The curry chicken was better than the Latin beef. Definitely recommend the beans and rice too. Service was good. Waitress circled back numerous times to check on us. My only complaint was the Coconut Mojito was not an authentic mojito. Mint was not muddled and it just tasted like coconut rum and sprite. Love me some Lola's. I'm not much of a burrito guy, so I go for their Buńuelos (jalapeño and latin cheese fritters) as a starter. Hot, gooey and delicious dipped in either lime aioli or jalapeño ranch. The main event for me is either the lemon pepper or jalapeño ranch wing. They're some of the best in town! On a recent venture to Jacksonville's Riverside, I found myself at the amazing Lola's. I highly encourage you to do the same. :) The down side was that I was traveling alone, so I could only taste what I could stomach, and not everything on the menu. Sesame Ginger Tofu ginger taco was flavorful, yet light. A great blend of tofu, tomato es, cabbage, and cheese. Trace amounts of spicy, but loads of flavor. The Fish Taco was well blended. That chipotle tartar sauce pulls together the fish, tomatoes, cabbage leaves, cheese, and cilantro. This is NOT your "average" fish taco, so prepare to be overwhelmed. In a good way. The Spicy Shrimp taco was packed with shrimp, which were perfectly cooked. Firm and flavorful. Paired exceptionally with tomatoes, cheese, cabbage, and a Mojo Lime Aioli. read more

I took my wife and her father to Lola's this past Friday, the 30th of May. Maybe we didn't order the right things, but some items were just ok, and another was something my wife wouldn't order again. The appetizers we got were better than our mains for herself and me. We got the Yuca fries and the Nachos. Those were all tasty. However, my wife got two empanadas, and while they were huge, they were unremarkable. She got the curry chicken, which she said all she could taste was cheese and the sweet potato one, which she said was rather bland. I got three tacos: The carnitas, the duck al pastor, and the Chimmy steak. The waitress said the duck was one of their top sellers, but when I asked if she had it, she said she doesn't eat that kind of thing. For nearly $9 for that duck taco, I was hoping it'd be good. It was ok, but I couldn't really tell I was eating duck. The other two were ok, but didn't really stand out. My father-in-law got a classic hamburger and fries and he liked his food, but felt he needed a bit more onion on his burger. Since we had such a limited sampling of the menu, I don't want to dismiss this place, but I can't yet say I had anything that particularly would draw me back. They must have gotten their rating from the burger side, because it sure wasn't for their Mexican. It makes me not want to try any of their other dishes. Let's start off by giving high praise to our amazing and fantastic waitress Hope... she never missed a beat. She was personable, friendly, attentive - a pure joy! Every recommendation she made was 100 percent spot on. The food was absolutely amazing, the quality, the taste, the portions, by far the best we've had in a really long time. My husband grew up right down the road and we were in town visiting family and wanted to run out to eat. So glad we found this place on Yelp - we will definitely return while in town. Additional interesting and amusing wall art contributes to the lighthearted mood. I was promptly seated and my server was Johnny on the spot to take my order. To drink, I ordered their Tijuana Margarita made with tequila, tropical vodka, guava juice, pineapple juice, splash of sour mix, grenadine sinker, and a sugar rim. ($6.99). Described on the menu as "Old fashioned Mexican madness", we'll I'm not sure about that ha, but it was extremely good and one of the best I've had. For my entree, I ordered their "Wet Willie" burrito. It's a monstrous two pound (+) burrito consisting of Latin-seasoned beef, refried beans, cheese blend, guacamole, Lola's rice, sour cream, cabbage, diced tomatoes, and all covered in Lola's wet burrito sauce ($15.97). One may choose the option of covering it with Jalapeño cheese sauce for additional $1.77. I chose not. It was approximately 15 minutes for my meal to arrive. It was steaming hot. I wasn't sure if I would be able to eat the whole thing but it tasted so delicious (and I hadn't eaten anything since breakfast) that it disappeared rather quickly. Truly one of the best burritos I've had! My server was friendly, efficient, and came by to check on me throughout my meal. 4 Hearty Stars for Lola's! It has a lot of good things going for it. I enjoyed good food, good drinks, and was provided prompt and efficient service. The non-complimentary chips and salsa prevented a higher rating (for me). Check this place out. read more

This time, which will be my last, the chips that you have to pay for were cold and lackluster, one of the burritos were on the cooler temp side which is never a good thing either and the spicy margarita was also meh. I use to frequent this place quite a bit years ago when I would leave the gym my friends and I would justify the downing of delicious food with the fact that we had a hard workout. Anyhow, I was looking for lunch and decided to try an old favorite. Kind of disappointed I did. I ordered online. When I arrived in the restaurant I just got the feeling a deep cleaning was needed. Nothing looked any different than years ago but not in a good way. There's no distinct sign that I could see for picking up to go. Then I stood at the end of the bar while several servers zipped by me without uttering a word. Finally one of the servers ringing out a customer turned around and acknowledged me. She went to the kitchen and returned with my order. Once I was back in the office I opened the container. The food just kinda moved all over the place which I atteibut to travel but the flavor was just ok. There was no wow factor, no signature anything. I doubt I'm back soon or ever.
