Combine a goofy coffee shop with a gift shop, throw in friendly baristas, and honestly, this feels straight out of Portland. More for the hip, liberals in your life! I felt very at home here since I was traveling. I loved sitting at the bar area with plug ins for my computer so I was able to work here for an hour or so. The cute cardboard design on their cups was fun. The matcha latte was reasonably priced and had nice flavor. The bathrooms are in the back hallway. The pastry case was full but I was headed to dinner so I didn't try any. This is a great stop if you want to sit with their free WiFi, or grab it to go and feel hip walking around downtown Boise!

Flying M is one of the funnest local coffee shops downtown. They are right across the street from where I work so it's very convenient for my to go grab a cup of fresh joe. I have been here a few times and stopped for a while. Some of the staff weren't the friendliest and I couldn't handle the inconsistency of nice and rude baristas so I stopped coming for a while. It's a cold fall day so a hot drink sounded perfect! I love looking at all the fun nick nacks while you're waiting in line. It's almost guaranteed that there is a wait. The barista that helped me today was lovely! She got my order and my goodies rang up. I headed to a table and hung out. My drink was perfect! It was at the right temperature with the right amount of sweetness. It was a good cup of hot goodness. The only thing that bothers me is the portion. A small is really small here. A med is what you normally get at other coffee joints as a small. If you're looking for a cool spot to kick it or to bring your out of town guests for a good cup of coffee, Flying M is your local joint to hit up!

Cute coffee shop downtown area. Very good coffees and baked goods. Especially liked the chocolate pumpkin muffin with soft inside and crunchy outside. Nice shady outside seating in the morning hours. Plenty of inside seating.

Don't come in here if you're looking for proactive customer service. I wandered around and around, looking at everything and not once did anyone greet me. People did their thing behind the various counters or stocked merch. I was confused because I thought they had more food options than what I was in the case but I didn't see any menu other than drinks. I didn't feel social enough to ask for help and ended up leaving empty-handed to go seek out somewhere else for lunch.

Really, really good coffee. It was a hot day, and we ordered iced lattes since we were walking around town. I almost ordered an add shot because nobody ever seems to make coffee right nowadays...sometimes a "latte" tastes like coffee-flavored milk. Not here. It was strong enough with a bold and delicious flavor. Now that we've covered the most important part, the service was friendly, and our coffees were ready before we even had a chance to look around the fun store. So we grabbed our coffee and had a LOT of fun laughing at all of the funny items they sold there. We were cracking up and having a good time while the caffeine hit our system and made everything right in the world again.

Hands down my favorite coffee shop I've ever been to and I've been to over 100! I usually get the caramel vanilla iced breve, and let me just say it's unreal. Somehow you can taste the espresso, cream, vanilla, and caramel all at once, and yet each flavor still shines on its own. I don't even know how to explain it it's just the creamiest, most flavorful, smoothest coffee I've ever had. Not even being dramatic. It's THAT good.And the staff are seriously amazing so down to earth, friendly, and actually care about giving you a good experience. If you don't know what to get, they'll give you an awesome recommendation. They suggested a black iced tea for my boyfriend, and even though it was just a "basic" iced tea, it somehow had this rich, clean, insanely good flavor we weren't expecting. I didn't get any pastries this time but the showcase looked phenomenal and I've heard great things about them. Plus the little gift shop area is adorable I'll definitely be coming back to grab some things. I work nearby and get coffee here pretty often and I can confidently say this is Boise's best coffee shop. Period.

Cool little place! My husband and I stopped in this morning, there was a bit of a line but it moved pretty quickly. I got an iced tea that I think she said was peach ginger or something? The flavor was super unique, it was so yummy! My husband got a caramel latte with extra caramel and espresso. He said it was one of the best lattes he has ever had! We also got butter croissants which were super dense. I liked mine but my husband said his was a little too greasy. Loved walking around the little shop in here too!

Flying M Coffeehouse is a great place to get tea/coffee and a good pastry. I ordered a chai tea, butter croissant and a potato cake. The tea and pastries were delicious. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I will definitely dine at Flying M Coffeehouse again if I'm in Boise Idaho.

This Coffee Shop Does Boise Proud Who would think there would be great people watching in Boise? It ain't New York, but it's grown-up Boise Bohemia. Cozy atmosphere that's well put together, outstanding coffee and a surprisingly great little gift shop. This place is truly entertaining and I always go when I'm in town. read more

Great spot for coffee and treats! There non bake peanut butter and chocolate bar is amazing! It may be a little difficult to find a place to sit and sip your cup of joe since it always appears to be hopping. Great spot if you are looking for unique gifts & cards. read more

Very cool store and coffee house, but the actual coffee was lacking, I got a mocha which was average, and my husband got a mondo which was good but kind of tasted watery. I think I would return if they used a higher quality coffee syrup. I have definitely had better coffee. read more

Went in for the first time with a friend. Coffee wasn't very good and service was subpar. The lady taking the order seemed rude and impatient. I wondered if the person i went in with had previously pissed her off as she was rude to her because her English isn't very good. Hopefully, it was just an off day there. read more

This coffee shop takes you back in time. I have had both cold and hot lattes. The coffee is good and is made quickly. You can choose to have them serve it to you in a conventional coffee cup with a lid OR if you are staying at the shop to chat with friends you can actually ask to have your coffee in a mug. They are friendly and the coffee shop has a homey feel to it. I didn't give it 4 stars for two reasons, one which is not necessarily a bad thing for the shop. 1) parking is awful. 2) if you happen to stop by when they are busy you better expect to take your drink to go as there is no where to sit, and if that's the case I would hit a different coffee place with a drive thru as the parking here is not the greatest. read more

Flying M has been a Boise staple since 1992. I recently moved to Boise after living in Portland, Oregon for 5 years. I wanted great coffee made by real baristas. When you walk into Flying M you'll see a beautiful array of quirky gifts, colorful chairs, and a wall of art. Then look ahead at the pastry case for big chocolate chip cookies, brownies, and more that appear to be made in house (I did not confirm that). By the register there's a light up Dino lamp which made me smile, and a sign advertising Coffee on Nitro, which my beer loving heart had to try. The barista gave me a sample of the coffee on nitro, which next time I'm getting as a float with local ice cream made in Nampa. But today I got a soy caramel latte that was expertly made and a cookie which was delicious. Flying M is a cool place where the old and young are welcomed with friendly service and quality drinks. Just moved to Boise from South Louisiana- I am definitely not a hipster, just a southern girl and I loved the fun vibe in Flying M. The barista was really energetic and encouraged us to try a sample of the Nitro coffee (we have found a new favorite) he let us know the Chai was made daily in house. We settled on a "dirty" chai and an americano. Both were super! I have to say the chai was deliciously unexpected!! read more

We were looking to grab a coffee on our way down from the Table Rock viewpoint. Light roast coffee was not too bad, I'm a home roaster so I'm hard to please, and it had a small town local feel with a interesting selection of gifts too. If I lived in this town I could see myself hanging out here often. read more

Of the downtown coffee shops, this'd be the hippie-est coffeehouse. Oddly large inside, it's best known for people sitting outside of it at all hours of the day (compare with, e.g., the Thomas Hammer by the Post Office). Coffee is fine, staff is friendly, no complaints. read more

You don't go to the Flying M because the coffee is fantastic, or because they have good muchies, even though they do. You go to the Flying M because you're an artist, writer, actor, student, or hipster, and the Flying M is the kind of place that you would expect to find those kinds of people. read more

I was looking for a local coffee shop in Boise last memorial weekend and fell in love with this place. This place is very unique. It's a coffee shop+brunch+gift store. we had ice coffee and latte and they were very good. not too acidic at all. Gift shop sells local and unique things.I saw young, old , musicians, readers, students. Very relaxing place. I would definitely go back to this place next time i'm in town. read more

I don't know what is wrong with John V's taste buds. Flying M has the best Americano in the valley. Flying M service is ALWAYS very good as well. I get my coffee to 'go' so am not bothered by any lack of seating that others posted. BTW, there actually is quite a bit of seating and the fact that the place is full indicates to me that lots of people think the products and service are excellent. read more

I had the double shot 8 oz. americano with a room for 1/2 inch half & half. Normally I put in a 1/2 tea spoon sugar but this coffee has no bitterness.They have a great tasting, intense yet smooth roast. Delicious looking pastries, but I did not have room, however I did came back for 2nd cup after an hour of a downtown walk. read more

This is seriously my favorite coffee shop ever, and I'm so sad that there aren't any close to this where I live. The coffee and pastries were great. If there's a line, there's plenty of stuff to look at, to keep busy. The line does move quickly though, which is nice! There's a great vibe here too. I love Flying M in Boise and Nampa. It's the perfect place for coffee, people-watching, meeting a friend for a long dish of solving the world's problems, and unique gift buying. Their coffee is delicious without being over-priced and ridiculous. It's just a lovely, wonderful place--somewhere you might find in Seattle or New York. read more

This place has been a Boise staple for as long as I can remember. When I was younger, it was the place to go to forget you were in Boise for a while. It's eclectic with an energetic vibe and a diverse clientele. You won't find slow, singer-songwriter music floating over neutral toned furniture in this spot. You will find brightly colored furniture, a din of chatter on weekends, friendly baristas, and sinful bakery selections. I spotted a peanut butter bar with a layer of peanut butter as thick as my hand. Somehow I did not give into the temptation! They were also playing drum-and-bass type music that felt more clubby than coffee housy. My boyfriend, a first-time Boise visitor, remarked that he felt like he could be in Portland while enjoying his tea at this place. I had a chai, which was good but not as flavorful as some chais I've had. I'd definitely recommend this spot for those looking for a coffee house with a personality. read more

What's not to love about the M? A great local establishment that makes great coffee! It doesn't take long for them to remember you and your order. The fresh-squeezed O.J. is delicious and its awesome when they offer wheat free bakery items (the wheat-laiden stuff looks great too). I don't ever stay to drink my beverage of choice so I can't comment on the atmosphere, seating, etc. I'll walk the extra few blocks past other coffee shops to come to the Flying M! read more

Has a lot of character, with what apparently is a Flying M characteristic: a gift shop. Old sixties tables, decent espresso and great hours. Wi-fi was in the neighborhood of 5mbs when I went. read more

Coffee is good and prepared correctly. The treats are also good, something lots of coffee shops mess up. The service is fast and accurate (you're getting what you order). Not to be overlooked is the ambiance. There's a cool feel inside without being pretentious and nice comfortable seats and tables to work at or lounge. There are lots of locals coming through for their mid day coffee which is always a good sign. read more

Best coffee in downtown Boise! Great menu and high quality coffee. The staff knows their stuff! There is lots of seating and it's a great place to relax and hangout with friends, play board games, or use your laptop. There are outlets so you can charge your phone or computer which is really helpful. On top of the cool hipster coffee shop, there is an awesome gift shop with fun, unique items in it! read more

I've been here multiple times because I work close but every time I'm not impressed. Their coffee and baked goods just... suck! I've tried their coffee, lattes, hot cocoa, and baked goods it's just not worth it. I like Dutch bros way more. I'll give them points for the atmosphere & friendly service. I wanted to like it but it's just not my cup of joe! read more

On Saturday afternoon, a kind gal was at the counter and she showed me the ladies sizes on the floor. In the front wall, there are many samples of numbered t-shirts. Behind her at the counter cubbies, there shirts in several colors available to be pressed with the design of your choice. We chose two womens designs and one men's designs and these were pressed right in front of us. Aside from shirts, we got other goodies as well. I've already written out and mailed most of the postcards we purchased and added things to my little scrapbook. Nice store to visit and shop for Boise, ID stuff!

Located on 6th street, this shop is your one stop shop for all things Idaho, handmade and incredibly special. You can find blown glass, textiles, soaps, lotions, chocolate, peanuts, ornaments, shave oils, cutting boards, games, mugs, vases, ornaments and so much more. Most of my favorite makers were there (think Ladybug Press, Sawtooth Glass Project, City Peanut Shop, All Spun Up, Sage Woolens, etc.) It felt like a holiday craft bazaar that is open year round and housing the very best products. I found the selection to be varied and affordable. You could find things for men, women, children, pets and even yourself! It bears repeating that you are paying for handcrafted, small-business wares. It is not going to have the same price tag as a manufactured good from a big box store. It will be a higher price tag. I like to think that I'm paying for a story. My purchased items contain all the love, hope, and hard work that each maker poured into their product. I love to give handmade stuff for gifts and I think they are appreciated a lot more than something I could ship from Amazon. The shop keepers were lovely. I think they are some of the makers, but it was so very busy when I went in that I didn't want to bog them down with conversation. If you are looking for special presents, this is the place to go. Local everything. Indie everything. Shirts, hats, amazing hand crafted jewelry, belt buckles, locally made candles. Honestly, you could spend far too long in here. I mean, they had a leather growler holder for your bike! Or, a similarly made wine bottle holder! Seriously? I need both of those items. Depending on the day. I found a locally made birthday card for a friend (made by local biz Rainbow Sprinkles). Prices aren't cheap, but what you might expect for quality products (the birthday card was $3--which seemed completely reasonable). If you're shopping for someone, and aren't entirely sure what to get them--come here. So many unique, thoughtful gift ideas, you'll be inspired. Get to it!

Opened October 2019 this little local convenience market featuring local producers is getting…read morebetter all the time, including more selection in freezer case of local rancher / farmer animal proteins from top quality, pasture raised and sustainable husbandry producers like Malheur River and McIntyre Family. Although this is 30 minutes from our front door, it is our go to when we're looking for pastured pork or poultry products. (We don't eat beef but they have that too.) If they had a good selection of local lamb cuts it would be golden for us - our favorite protein - but it is a harder sell for them so they carry less. (Americans consume on average only 1 pound of lamb / person / year. And about 97 pounds of chicken per person annually. Both are shocking numbers.) We purchased bone-in pork shoulder from Malheur which I boned and cut up for Asado de Bodas (aka Mexican wedding stew, I think, sort of mole meets asado de puerco) cutting off the beautiful fresh fat cap to render down for sauteing the veg, and using the bone to make a pork broth to freeze for pozole sometime in the future. And if you like to cook Italian food, Malheur made jowl bacon (otherwise known in Italy as guanciale) this winter which was sold here and is THE perfect thing for carbonara and Amatriciana sauces. My Brooklyn born hubby is Italian heritage and grew up with an Italian speaking nonna in the kitchen so we have used a lot of guanciale - not in Boise though where it is hard to find - and this is the best we have ever used. Still not carrying much fresh market produce but they have added Acme Bread to the line up and on Saturdays I think Acme rotates in a special kind of loaf. From time to time they have had "meet the maker" tastings on Saturdays for some of the vendors they carry. And here's a tip you'll thank me for - if they have local Morning Star Acres jam on the shelf, buy it. Especially the huckleberry! SERVICE: The owner is on site almost all the time, very friendly, very responsive to FB messaging if you have questions about something in stock and always able to help by phone too before making a trip if you're looking for something specific. SET UP: Small but with a good expanse of windows it is light and bright and well organized with refrigerator / freezer case along one wall, larder / pantry shelving next to that with food products for sale and other items - like local artists and crafters goods for sale- also placed around the store. ACCESSIBILITY: ADA parking correctly designed for van access striping on the passenger side adjacent to building. Small ramp up to sidewalk. All on one floor. Ample floor clearance. The loo fails ADA and Idaho code compliance with counters and towel dispenser too high. The eat in counter has only high stool level seating so inaccessible. The ADA is 30 years old in July and it is past time to get this right everywhere for equal access. (Yep. I have a dog in this hunt since I have had MS since college.) LOCATION: In the Bench neighborhood right across from Idaho Youth Ranch thrift shop and just next door to a Vincent St. Paul sales store. PARKING: Private lot has about 15 parking spaces.

So it was delightful when The Sturiale Place reopened last month (May 2018) as warm and wonderful as ever for ambiance in the lovingly restored old house, hospitality, service and food. With a revised and bit expanded menu and a new young Chef in the kitchen, formerly Executive Chef at a Portland area McMenamins, this was a unique little gem before and the changes have polished it even brighter. Our first lunch after re-opening was as delightful as the others we enjoyed here last year (see my previous review for details). This time we enjoyed being able to try new menu items like green salad with Delicata squash and herbed goat cheese (half order $7.50), house made pappardelle with braised lamb Bolognese ($18) and mushroom Marsala on polenta ($13). As a great new surprise on the wine menu, manager Gina Sturiale (daughter of Rita) has added a really good white and red wine by the glass, like the nice Negroamaro my husband enjoyed, for as little as $5! The menu spans options from soup through appetizers and starter or main course sized salads through entrees to desserts. Prices range from $6 to $18. Total inside seating is limited to maybe 16 and maybe about that many on an outside deck. So this is not a place for big groups. It is likely not a kids' destination either. As added treat they are now open on Thursday and Friday from 11 to 2 for lunch. And now reservations can be made via Open Table.

To start, I tried the Pickletini. As a fan of pickle-forward drinks, I found it "not bad"--a solid choice if you enjoy that briny profile. My fiancé opted for the All Ways Down Double IPA flight. At 9% ABV, it was a heavy hitter, but he really enjoyed the intense hop aroma and flavor provided by the Cryo Hops. For my main, I ordered the TNT Sando (Tri-Tip with bacon jam and garlic aioli) on Gaston's grilled focaccia. I requested it without pickles, and it was excellent. I paired it with the Black Bean and Veggie soup, which was a standout--perfectly delicious with a nice "zing" to it. Unfortunately, the meal hit a significant snag with my fiancé's Fish & Chips. The beer and cornmeal tempura batter was extremely thick (nearly 3/4 of an inch in some spots) and the fish was overcooked. Additionally, the blue cheese dressing on his side salad was very runny and tasted off. It was disappointing enough that we had to send it back. We replaced it with The Spicy Italian pizza. This was a total 180--it arrived looking beautiful, and the combination of the meats, pepperoncinis, and hot honey was absolutely delicious. Our server, Casey P., was generally good and attentive, though we did have to wait to start our meal because we weren't initially provided with napkins or silverware. A minor note on the atmosphere: the table we were seated at had "gay" carved into the wood, which felt a bit out of place for the professional vibe of the rest of the establishment. Overall, the TNT Sando, the pizza, and the beers are worth coming back for, but the kitchen consistency on the fried items definitely needs some work.

Our entrees arrived and I was surprised to receive only 6 clams with my fettuccini. Seemed a bit sparse for the upcharge. I think shrimp would have been a better match or mussels and more of them. (From the photos I see online, the dish should come with more clams). The pasta was fresh but bland and unexciting. My partner had the bucatini carbonara and said it was similarly bland and the meat was overcooked to the point he didn't even finish it. We were excited for the tiramisu as well since it's a dish we love. What we received was very lackluster, near tasteless and scant in both presentation and portion. We honestly feel that TJs frozen tiramisu is better than the one we had that night. Overall, we expected much more. It wasn't terrible but truly disappointing. We won't be back as there are many better options in Boise for foodies to enjoy.

I asked if a bear claw could be set aside for me. With it being Saturday morning, I wanted to guarantee a bear claw after I got off work. I wanted to take one home to my husband since I promised him one. I headed in around 9:30. It was chill so I probably could have just snagged one but I wanted it to be a guarantee. The gal behind the counter grabbed my bear claw. Paid for it and made me way out. On my way to the car, I couldn't help but be baffled to how light the box was. I got into my car and opened the box up. Bro, to call this pastry in this to go box a bear claw has to be a joke. A bear claw to me is big, palm size. Multiple people handling a big claw size. I was so disappointed at how tiny this bear claw was. Honestly, to have it be called bear claw is criminal work. And to have it be pushing 5 bucks is criminal work too. Don't get me wrong, the bear claw was decent. It was frosted. The pastry portion of it was soft and buttery. There was apple but very subtle. The size of it is comparable to street taco but fluffier. To compare a bear claw to a street taco is just insane to me.

My favorite place in Boise to get a great cup of coffee. I stop in everyday on my lunch break to treat myself before going back to work. The baristas are always cheerful & friendly, and I have never seen them screw up an order - no easy task when there's a line of drinks waiting to be made, and nothing written down to help remember what is supposed to be what. I don't know how they do it, but I suspect witchcraft. The pastries are always delicious and tempting, but my favorite has to be the toffee fudge cookie. It's more of a dense chocolaty brownie than cookie, with bits of toffee over the top; my mouth is watering thinking about it. I have to get one every time they are in the dessert case, sometimes two. The crowd at the M is always an eclectic mix, and if you have the time to grab a table and do some people watching, you will not regret it. The rotating artwork on the walls is always great to check out, but I avoid doing so on 1st Thursdays - it can get a little crowded and it makes it difficult to get up close for a look. read more

I use to love this place. It's been 2 years since I was last here and it's gone way down hill. First off they don't label there coffee with names of the customer so my drink got stolen. They got me another one but the line was so long that I had to practically wait twice as long to get my drink replaced. They all so place the drinks in front of the other customers trying to pay so you have to cut in line of people trying to pay and order to get a drink that you already ordered. My drink a soy chi with Carmel tasted horrid. Because of the long lines and limited equipment they are rushed to make drinks which end up tasting gross. Ease off the carmel btw. Employees are really nice its prob the best thing about this place. but I will never go there if it's busy cause it's a zoo and the hippy smell reaks on a warm day. Hippy smell= hipsters that think it's cool to smoke pot all day and think they are saving the environment for not showering. read more
