They have a sizable drink menu along with appetizers and desserts. We started off with the deviled eggs which had a little asian flare (new to me but I liked a lot!) and then my main entree was the braised short ribs. They literally melted in my mouth and served over a pureed squash along with black beans, kale and cheese. We were leaving the next day so I ate it down to the last bite and I believe I proclaimed it was one of the best meals I had in 2024! Absolutely loved dining here! I didn't have any expectations before coming in, but we had an amazing experience and will put this place on our list of favs for Oceanside! The ambiance is so cozy and intimate. They have a cute little area for you to wait for a table, the dining area, a bar, and outside seating. I'm early on in my pregnancy and of course weary of all the foods I'm eating, thus prompting me to ask a few times whether certain dairy products are pasteurized. Multiple people helped and were very kind, which I really appreciated. The food was delicious. I had fried pickles which I'll dream about, and a kid's grilled cheese. We arrived shortly before the kitchen was closing looking for dinner (we work late so it makes finding a place open for after work hard), I know, not the best guest etiquette, but the staff was fantastic and super nice about it. I have had this place bookmarked for a thousand years--ok, maybe just a hundred--and finally visited on s Sunday evening. They have outdoor patio seating but the interior decor is charmingly chaotic, and I mean that in the best way. The cocktail, beer, and wine menu is strong. I tried the Smoke Show which is made with mezcal and, as the menu indicated, it was a "heavy hitter." It was extremely boozy and smoky. I thought it was awesome but you have to like booze and smoke to enjoy this one. Normally, I absolutely love deviled eggs but I think the ones here, while very creative, were a miss. They are quite different than normal deviled eggs, which is just fine, but they seemed very dry to me. The filling wasn't as luxuriously creamy as normal deviled eggs. I give them points for the very interesting ingredients, however. The short ribs were incredibly tender and delicious and the portion size was generous . The grits under the ribs was fine but needed seasoning. Alas, there is no salt on any of the tables. I have no doubt our terrific server would have brought me some amazing gourmet salt if I had asked but hey, no big deal. I loved the ribs. The scallops entree over risotto was very good. If you like scallops, give these a try. The decor is attractive and funky, the service was outstanding, and most of the food was very good. A couple of misses but I would gladly return. We stopped here for lunch a couple days ago. We did have to stand at the entrance for a while until we were aknowledged, but then they sat us on the patio right away. At first they gave us the regular menu, but once I pointed out that their website said its happy hour, they quickly gave us the reduced priced happy hour menu. Not sure if it was done intentional since we are tourists, but all was well since they were polite about it. The waiter was very friendly, but was so talkative with everyone, we felt service was kind of slow. But we didnt mind since we werent in a hurry or anything. Food: 4/5 Overall the food was really good. The fries were a bit too skinny/slightly overcooked for me but the pig burger was delicious (one pork patty and one beef patty). I think it's a tad overpriced but it's fair. Drinks: 2/5 Bloody Mary wasn't spicy at all and was bland. Mimosa was fair but definitely get the bottle (way better value). 2 Mimosas were $21 and a bottle of champagne was $39. Ambiance: 4/5 I liked the ambiance. We went down to Oceanside last weekend and got lunch at the Flying Pig Pub & Kitchen shortly after we arrived. The place was an easy walk from the train station, even with a four-year-old and a stroller, in what seemed like the main downtown area a little bit in from the beach. We walked in at 12:30 on a Saturday, which must be close to peak brunch time. The place was busy and vibrant, but we got seated right away. It was a fun spot, with a certain eclectic charm. Taxidermy and mismatched lighting, and yes, some flying pig decor. Service was great, informal but attentive. I appreciated the laid-back atmosphere, which was good for our whole family. There were multiple people there with their dogs. My husband and I got beers from the extensive draft list. I went for the Northern Pine Walker Lake American amber ale, while he got the Rouleur Endo West Coast IPA. Both nice, and brewed in Oceanside and Carlsbad, respectively. I got the fried chicken sando for lunch, and it was solid, with mustard aioli, hot honey, arugula, and spicy beer pickles. The chicken was juicy and delicious--and actually, my two-year-old's tenders were the same chicken, unnecessarily gourmet for a baby meal. Definitely needed more spice, though, both in the honey and the pickles. The sandwich came with fries, which were very tasty, and I scored a small Caesar salad when a server dropped it off at our table by mistake. It was a lovely Caesar, with parmesan, tomato tarragon relish, garlic croutons, and crispy garlic. This was a pleasant, satisfying lunch, with all difficulties arising from our own kids' behavior. I'm glad we dropped by the Flying Pig while we were in Oceanside, and hope to come back on a future trip. read more

3.5 is my review. We had been trying to go to Stone Brewing down the street, but didn't realize it didn't have food, so they recommended we come here. They have beers on tap, wine and cocktails. It's a dark, pub-like environment. The service was very friendly and appropriately attentive. They even offered me a blanket because it was cold and rainy out. The drinks were very good. I got a cold brew cocktail and the hubs got an IPA. The fried pickles are a MUST! We then shared the blackened fish sandwich with the truffle fries and the little gems Caesar. There is only one fish I don't like--mahi mahi. I neglected to ask what the fish was and I think this was it. Not my cup of tea. But the hubs loved it--lots of flavor and texture on the sandwich. The truffle was a bit overpowering but the shoestring fries were nicely salted and crispy. I'd get plain next time. The Caesar was flavorless. We barely ate any of it. Not worth it. read more

Booked a last minute reservation on a Friday night after seeing some stellar reviews. We came around 6:30PM and the place was bustling! We ordered the Mac and cheese with the fried chicken on top and the tri tip sandwich. The Mac and cheese was rich and creamy but I would recommend skipping the fried chicken. It costs an extra $8.50 for a pretty skimpy piece that's frankly quite bland. The tri tip sandwich was very tender, but the minimal amount of meat on it was a bit disappointing. It reminded me of a Philly cheesesteak more than anything. The bread on the sandwich was fantastic though and so were the fries. The service was awesome and the decor is cool. This is not our first visit. Our first visit was a year ago. And we were super excited to come back as we had a wonderful time the last time. We were seated immediately upon arriving. And given the menus. The deco has not changed since the last time we visited. It's a chill vibe slowish Saturday afternoon. Not all the tables were filled today. They have seating both inside and outside. It appears to have expanded to an empty shop next door, and that can be accessed by a door on the side. We were seated right next to the bar. They took our drink orders. Hubby ordered a perfect manhattan, and I ordered the alabama vacation. The drinks took approximately 10 minutes to come. I'm happy to report that we both loved our drinks!!! The perfect manhattan was yummy to my hubby. And my alabama vacation was nice. Light and not overly strong. The food we ordered PEI mussels for appetisers, chicken fried pork, and a pear and apple salad. The food took about 15 minutes after our drinks came. And they had forgotten our mussels. Our server had said that when my hubby said to scratch our initial order of baked bolognese , he had scratched our mussels as well. Since our food had already arrived by the time we realized that, we told him not to put the order for the mussels in anymore. The chicken fried pork was yummy. It arrived with the breaded and fried pork chop on a bun at the bottom, topped with a sunny side up; garnished with some sprouts and potato chunks on the side. There was also gravy on the pork chop itself. The chicken fried pork itself was crispy and smelt so good and tasted heavenly. The gravy over it was delicious. What my hubby didn't like about it was that the bottom of the egg was a little overdone. And he didn't care for the bread underneath. I had a pear and apple salad. It was already tossed with dressing. It had dates, candied pecans, and blue cheese. I enjoyed the salad till I hit the bottom. It felt like there was so much dressing at the bottom. There was a lot of blue cheese, and the bottom tasted a little over salty for me. That's just me - I'm used to eating very little dressing. We did end our lunch with a wonderful dessert. We had banana pudding. It came presented on a plate with the banana pudding in a little jar. It was built up like a parfait with whipped cream and a caramelised banana. It tasted really good! Overall, it was nice. They kept checking on us to make sure we were taken care of, and we appreciate that. I do, however, feel that service could be a little faster. And I feel that I expected a lot more from this place that we had visited and enjoyed a year ago. Keep up the good work! And thank you for wonderful time! Wanted to also point out that the menu on the website may not be 100 percent similar to the one at the restaurant. I was looking forward to trying the alley cat but it wasn't available at all on the menu in the restaurant. Nice place to grab food. Outside patio is doggie friendly! Came here for lunch one day and got a table outside, brought our pups and there were other people with their dogs as well. We ordered the deviled eggs and the pig burger with salad to share. The pig burger was phenomenal, meat was flavorful, cooked to perfection and the cheese was melted on, with the bacon jam. This restaurant has a great vibe, both inside and out. You could really do some damage with their cocktails, with friends. There is seating inside and outside facing Mission Ave. Street parking, so I imagine on a weekend night it can be a challenge to find space. Now for the food. They need a new cook. And I tried every way to find something good in the food, but unfortunately I couldn't. One of my friends ordered the braised beef shank. The meat was tender, but the seasoning was off. The cornbread was overcooked to the point it crumbled. Hard and you could see it was overcooked. Another friend ordered a rib eye. Should have been medium, but it was over cooked. Gristle and not too much marble which made it hard to cut and worse to chew. No salt or any seasoning whatsoever. The vegetable medley was a poor choice of hard and soft carrots and a few fragments of broccoli and something that tasted like a hard turnip. I ordered appetizers, truffled fries, expensive wine that wasn't. The wine had a strong blackberry flavor with high alcoholic aftertaste. This usually suggests cheap bottles. I have no issues spending money on good food, great experiences, and terrific vibes, but when the food is bad, it's usually a telltale sign of owners that don't ask their customers or worse, eat their own food. The place needs no help attracting people to come in, as the ambiance is there, but what gets people to rave and talk about the experience and return is the food. Ask the owners to taste their own food and if they'd return to this restaurant. Hopefully the staff reviews comments and adjusts accordingly. Oh yes, I gave them 3 stars for the other appetizers we had... charred broccoli, which was very good. A bit oily, but I'm sure the bacon added to the oiliness. read more

This trending restaurant popped up on my Yelp feed. I saw their happy hour menu and I had to try it. I like to get the smaller plates and see if I like the dish rather than ordering the regular plate. I came around 430p.m. on a Sunday. They were not busy at all, so I got to choose my table. I chose the 2 person wooden table. The waiter said it was made by a customer years ago. Wow it was stunning. The whole place is just hip and eclectic. You can look around and the room and find something fascinating. Our waiter, Joe, took our order quickly. He is very personable. He also made some suggestions. He did a great job overall. Again, I ordered from the happy hour menu so that I can taste test the dishes. It was really hard to decide what to pick since I wasn't super hungry. My favorite dish #1 was the chicken Sando. This was recommended by Joe, the waiter. I can see why since it top my list of favorites. It was big, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I also liked the beer pickles in it and the mustard aioli. 10/10. My 2nd favorite dish was the deviled eggs. They brine the egg in sweet tea but it wasn't sweet, it just turned the egg brown. The dill pollen fried capers were good as well as the bacon. The whole thing was so good. 9/10 My 3rd favorite dish was the fried pickles. It was yummy! The pickles were battered and fried. They gave us ranch and ketchup to dip them in. 9/10 The smash burger was a bit of a letdown. I've been on a smash burger kick since I went to For the Win in LA. This wasn't quiet that. It tasted like a burger. It was plump and juicy. I couldn't taste the zip zip sauce in it. 8/10 Finally, the Mac n cheese. It was definitely better than ones I've had. You can taste the mornay and provolone cheese. I generally don't like Mac n cheese especially from a box. This one was good. 8/10 read more
