I love Thai food and love exploring new restaurants. Came here on a Friday night. They were busy, but we were able to get seated right away. Our waiter was very nice and accommodating. I started off with the summer rolls. They are freshly made when you order them. I was able to customize mine. You can either get sweet-and-sour sauce or peanut sauce with it. For my main meal, I had tofu pad Thai. It was a good portion. I was able to eat it two more times during the weekend. It tasted great. They have inside and outside seating. Tried out this Thai spot in San Antonio called flying tiger. It was highly rated so I thought it would be a good option. I got the pad see ew and my friend got the pad Thai. We both got mild medium spiciness but our dishes had no hint of spice at all, so we def shoudlve gotten spicy or even extra spicy. They also provide a rack of garnishes including chili oil, pickled jalapeños, a tangy hot sauce, and peanuts. These were not spicy either and were too pickled and tangy in my opinion. My daughter and I had a date set to spend together and she picked Flying Tiger to try something new. We love the vibe, the music, everything! They have got to have the best lunch special I have ever seen. Most places will give you a salad or soup with the entree but they give you a half order of an appetizer! I ordered the garlic noodles with beef and swapped out for glass noodles with a medium spice level and the chicken potstickers, and everything was absolutely delicious! My daughter ordered the flying tiger chicken with the mango sauce and a side of sesame sauce and crab rangoon. She mixed the mango with the rice and put the sesame sauce on the chicken, and it was insanely delicious! The chicken was perfectly fried and the tempura was so light and crisp. And to finish it off, we ordered a Thai tea, it was really delicious. Very light, got it with coconut milk, and it was just right. It's our second time dining at Flying Tiger Thai Restaurant in San Antonio, and we've really enjoyed the experience overall. The first time, we ordered some food to-go and honestly didn't like it as much, but after dining in, we realized this is food that truly needs to be eaten hot and fresh to appreciate the flavors. This time we ordered a variety of appetizers and mains: Baby Egg Rolls, Chicken Satay, Chicken Pot Stickers, Veggie Pot Stickers, Edamame, Tom Yum Soup, Tom Kha Soup, Curry Fried Rice with Tofu & Cashews, Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango, and Fresh Lemonade. The Chicken Pot Stickers were a standout, easily 5/5. They were flavorful and perfectly cooked. My friend preferred the veggie pot stickers, but I personally loved the chicken version more. The Tom Kha Soup was also very good, rich, creamy, and comforting. The Curry Fried Rice with Cashews was the only dish that fell a bit short for me. The cashews didn't taste as fresh as expected, and I'd recommend removing the peas, their sweetness didn't complement the curry rice well. The dish itself was decent but missed that bold curry flavor we were hoping for. On the brighter side, the Freshly Squeezed Lemonade was excellent, refreshing and already chilled, so we skipped adding ice. The Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango was a nice decent way to end the meal. Fresh summer rolls should be served with peanut sauce. They make us pay to switch and the only option for peanut sauce is a large size for $4. My family and I relocated to San Antonio 13 years ago and have been unable to find a Thai restaurant that we truly like. And then, Flying Tiger opened and we have finally found a place that we love! We have been there at least (5) times, each time using carry out. Our family go-to is the pad Thai, which is spot on. The curry's are also amazing, especially the Panang. One of my favorites is the Tom Yum soup. When you are gauging your spice level, expect a little hotter than you may be used to. They are applying for a liquor license, but in the meantime you can bring your own. We don't have any food pics, because we are always too excited to eat it before we remember to take a photo!! Flying Tiger is my absolute favorite Thai restaurant in San Antonio! I have been here multiple times and have never had a bad experience. The staff are always very friendly and communicate with you efficiently when they are busy. I also think all the dishes are very affordable as the portions are very big for what you are paying. The actual restaurant is very cozy inside and also has plenty of parking outside. Just a tip: Take a visit here for their lunch menu! It is very affordable and includes an appetizer with your meal too. My favorite dishes here are the classic *Pad See Ew and the *Pad Woon Sen. The rice dishes are also nice and I highly recommend the *Thai Fried Rice. They also have a spice scale that you can adjust to your liking for many of the dishes which is nice. Best Thai food we have had so far in San Antonio (to be fair we haven't had a TON). I'll be honest, when I walked in and saw no Asian people I had my reservations, but the food was great. For Pad Thai I'm looking for the right tamarind sweetness...not dry but not sickly sweet. This was really close to it, especially balanced by the heat. I like hot...but not Thai Hot. I went with the 3, and it wasn't spicy enough for me, so I had to add some from the spice tray. Would come back and try the same thing with spice 4 and update my review. Recommend: Maybe. I've read so many great reviews about this place that I just had to try it. Service: The service is great! I came on a Friday evening and they appeared busy. I only saw two people waiting tables. I was quickly sat down and my waiter quickly came over to obtain my drink order. Soon after I was able to place my order. I stayed a maximum of an 45 mins and my waiter checked in on me frequently even thought they were busy. He maintained a joyful demeanor and welcomed everyone cheerfully. Food: I order a lemonade (freshly made) and it was delicious. I ordered the vegetable pot stickers, curry fried rice with tofu to eat there, and an order of garlic noodles with chicken to go. The vegetable pot stickers had no real taste and the texture was as if they had been frozen and reheated, the texture was gummy. I was also sorely disappointed with the curry fried rice. I'd been to Best Quality Daughter and had their curry friend rice (which is marvelous) and was packed with a lot of flavor. There was minimal curry flavor in the fried rice and it tasted a little odd. I didn't have high hopes for the garlic noodles. The next day I ate the garlic noodles and they were delicious! The chicken had so much flavor and the noodles were soft and flavorful as well . Maybe they had an off day when I went with their two other dishes. LOCATION: Not too far off 410 on the Northside, but not the nicest location. Clean place inside with good decor, but the exterior is less appealing. DRINKS: Just had hot tea and honey, which was great. I went for lunch and had some good appetizers: the crispy chicken potstickers, which were warm and delicious, and the fresh rolls, which were alright in taste, but the cold temperature made it less desirable for me. I had the Chicken Pad See Ew, and my friends both had the Chicken Pad Thai. Our problem was that when the food came out, it's hard to describe, but the smell reminded us of a dog's breath. As weird as it sounds, we had never experienced that before. It was a bad smell, although 2 of us tried the food, and we did enjoy it, although it was tough to get past the smell. The waiter was very nice and accommodating. He said the smell may be the fish oil, but I have eaten plenty of Thai food and never smelled that before. It may have been a fluke, but I'm not sure. The food DID taste good, and the chicken especially was well seasoned. My other friend switched his out for chicken teriyaki and fried rice. He liked it and rated about a 7/10. Service is good. The wait staff is very attentive. Summer roll tasted bland. I saw chicken, shrimp and imitation crabmeat which had some flavor. The dipping sauce didn't help much and tasted like chilled watered down sweet chili sauce with crushed peanuts. Apparently it's supposed to be like that. So I'll mark that as an item tailored to the neighborhood. The Flying Tiger fried chicken had potential and smelled delicious but had excessive oil dripping onto the bed of green leaf lettuce. The portion was generous. I just didn't expect the extra oil. I ordered the orange sauce on the side which would've hidden oiliness if it covered the tempura fried chicken. I tried the Ba Mee which definitely tasted good but needed improvement in price-to-portion. The Pad Woon Sen noodles tasted greasy with bland chicken. The dining area was comfortable but the air smelled a little old once your nose gets accustomed to the odors of freshly cooked Thai food. One star for my first impression. My last visit was just a couple months after they opened and I definitely saw potential in the restaurant.
