Came here after noticing they had a Northern Burmese curry as I never pass up on the chance to try additional Burmese dishes. It was a jungle style curry (no coconut milk) and was definitely one of the best jungle style curries I have had. It had a very interesting and complex flavor. It was a bit pricey and the waitresses forgot we asked for vegetables and not just tofu but it was really delicious. We also got the sticky rice with taro wrapped in banana leaf dessert: Sticky rice soaked in coconut milk and sugar with taro wrapped in banana leaves, then steamed. It was so really delicious. I had no idea there was so much Thai food in San Antonio but I happened to stumble upon this specific restaurant because of Google Gemini. Because I am on a work trip, I did not have to worry about pricing, but I did think that, although it is the standard, this meal was pretty expensive. It was over $33 but I did add a fried egg and extra chicken. I ordered the Krapo with medium spice and it was perfectly spicy. There was a perfect amount of Thai basil in the dish and it was wet enough for the rice to be a perfect addition. The bell peppers and the onions were absolutely spectacular. Now for the Boba. I ordered a combination of coconut, kiwi and watermelon. I also made sure that I subbed out the milk for coconut water as I cannot tolerate dairy. This Boba smoothie might be the best Boba I have ever had. I will say that the lid is kind of confusing because I do not know if the Thai restaurant makes it or if it is a neighboring restaurant. Recommend: Yes Food: Had the spring roll and the Chiang Mai Noodles (Khao Soy). It consists of a thick orange colored sauce/gravy, skinny egg noodles stir fried with a curry. Served with fresh red onion, green cabbage, purple cabbage, cilantro, and lime wedge on the side. Topped with crispy egg noodles. It is a big portion of food, so filling, but light at the same time. We stopped at Tong's Thai for the first time yesterday. Overall: it was very good to excellent. Very fresh ingredients, friendly efficient service and very reasonable prices. Our waitress was quick to help with our choice and made an excellent recommendation. One of my personal peeves is waitresses saying "Everything we serve is good." when we ask their opinion, without helping us make a choice. She explained why she preferred the Pa-Nang over the other choice my wife considered. Very helpful. We started with the Chicken Sa-tay. It was excellent and the peanut sauce was among the best I've ever had. Very large portion that could easily serve as an entree for people without large appetites. I had the Krapao with pork. Very fresh assortment of vegetables, pork and Thai basil. Packed with flavor! And a huge portion. Word of warning: their medium spicy was borderline the spiciest ("Hot") Thai I've ever had. While I enjoyed it, next time I'll order mild or no spiciness. I enjoy some kick to my Thai food but the medium was above "medium" to me. My wife had the Pa-Nang, medium spicy. Thick red curry sauce. My husband and I came in to have late lunch early dinner today. I have a service animal who was wearing his vest. He is a professionally trained and well behaved service animal. Once we entered, we were greeted by hostess and taken to our table by the owner. She stated we could sit in the back, I politely told her he is a service animal and he sit in the maim dining room. Came here this past week with a friend and was pretty excited about it. The place was decent looking and the people were nice. We were seated fairly quickly and thought ambiance was nice (was loud though with people talking loud near us couldn't hear half the time). They had a QR code at the table you scan to check the menu which was cool. It was interesting they had paper covering the table as cloth but I spilled some stuff and was grateful they didnt have to wash it. I ordered the Thai ice tea which tasted alright. I also ordered the fried spring rolls and those were soooo good! Very crunchy and good taste to them. Would absolutely get those again. I ordered chicken pad thai and it was alright. I really liked the chicken it was cooked perfectly for me. The noodles however, were not my favorite and tasted a bit sweet for my liking. Saw a segment about Tong's Thai Restaurant on Texas Eats and we had to go. Our experience was beyond good...it was superb! For appetizers we had a couple of fried Thai spring rolls that we found to be A-grade. I had their breaded & fried Shrimp and scallops with various vegetables, and my son had pork belly with vegetables for the main course...both exceptional. The scallops the big real ones and the potbelly was fried with nice crispy edges. Yum! A side was a huge order of Special Fried Rice with pineapple & cashews...again of peak quality. With drinks the tab came to $110 before a good tip for the superior service from our most pleasant and attentive waitress with plenty of left-overs for another meal. This was the best meal I have had in months, and I am spring-loaded for my next visit to try some of the 6 or 7 dishes I spotted for next time from their large menu! I've had lunch here 4 times in the last 2 months, with family, and each time we were all impressed. (And my family drives all the way from Seaworld to get here). The service is fast and friendly, and they keep checking on you to make sure you are completely satisfied. The food is excellent, very fresh and high quality, and you get plenty (so feel free to ask for a to-go box, at the end). The menu selection is very extensive with both Thai and Chinese food (with over 100 menu items) For something spicy, try the Kang Ped Curry with either Chicken, Beef, Shrimp, Squid or Tofu. If you prefer something more basic, try the Lemon Chicken (which is deep fried and delicious). It's my favorite. There's also a very large variety of Teas (over 40 items). The Sake and Wine selection is also good. The indoor atmosphere is pleasant, especially after shopping all morning at Target across the street. The small outdoor patio is relaxing, with a small pond with Koi, adding to the ambiance. And lastly, the prices are very reasonable, making it worth going back, again and again. The "Lao Papaya Salad" was fresh, tangy, and had just the right amount of spice. The "Vegetable Stir Fry with shrimp, chicken, and beef" was perfectly cooked with a great mix of flavors and textures. The "Tom Kha (coconut & lemongrass) chicken soup" was rich, creamy, and incredibly comforting. The "deep-fried spring rolls" and "white spring rolls" were crispy, fresh, and flavorful for appetizers. Of course, we had to pair everything with a refreshing "Thai iced tea," the perfect sweet and creamy complement to our meal. They have a really nice ambience. Also outdoor seating when weather is nice, I assume. There was rain showers during the time I visited (July) so the outdoor area wasn't open. But I must say walking into the restaurant, I got the vibe that I was in some tropical place...vs being in San Antonio. Hostess and waitstaff were very nice and accommodating. Their menu looks extensive. They do need to update the hardcopy menu, as we were told the online menu is more updated. So there are some things online that's not on the hardcopy. The drawback was the food which was just itself was ok. We got pad thai, some skewers, green curry and seafood fried rice. Some items needed more "heat". We asked for some spicy sauce on the side but it wasn't still that spicy. I am not sure if we just ordered the wrong things since we didn't really feel that the items were well made, in that we have better Thai food. And there are levels but given the ambience, I was really expecting some outstanding dishes. And we did get the pad thai that's like the entry level item and that too was not stellar. We opted for Tom-Kha soup, Papaya Salad (also known as Som Tam) and White Spring rolls paired with the iced Jasmine Tea to keep our meal light after a long walk in the park. My friend and i thoroughly enjoyed every layer and complexity of our meal. It was pure perfection! I absolutely love Thai food. And this restaurant is quite authentic. Had an absolutely wonderful and exceptional experience at Tong's Thai! It was our first time here and we actually arrived before they opened so we waited a few minutes outside. While waiting my husband sparked up a conversation with Steve who we later found out is the owner. Ironically, he is half Korean like my husband and his wife is Thai. Such a nice and humble man. Once they seated us, Chance was our server and she was so kind and attentive! Everything is made to order and is still served promptly. I ordered a delicious Thai tea to drink! To eat we ordered the deep fried rolls to start. We also ordered yellow curry with chicken, and the pork belly plate which was served over veggies. Fresh and perfectly cooked ingredients! We shared everything we ordered. My husband and I like spicy and the medium spicy has a kick fyi! I don't think I'd be able to handle a higher spice level. So delicious though! Tong's Thai is a San Antonio staple, and I consider it the best Thai food in town. It's been a while since we visited. A group of friends used to hang out there from time to time before the pandemic. My husband and I had a craving for Thai food, so where else would we go but Tong's? As usual, we were greeted by the loveliest hostess and quickly seated on a Friday night. We ordered hot tea and water, and in no time, the tea was brought out in a beautiful pot to steep. The tea cups were metal, so we had to beware and hold them from their top edges so we wouldn't burn ourselves. The wonderful thing was that the tea stayed hot throughout the meal. We started with an order of cheese rolls. These are like crab rangoons or cheese wontons but rolled up instead of in crimped pouches. My husband ordered the Thai Grilled Combo, and I had the spicy Kan Ped Curry (Red Curry). Both dishes were flavorful and wonderful. That combo was something else! Great comfort food!
