The owners are very friendly and even took the time to chat with my friend and I, who has visited Thailand recently. Peg and I traveled to the Big City for a weekend of fun and frolic. For us, this means attending a concert (Carmina Burana at the Tobin), a visit to the Briscoe and, of course, eating. Plus, I wanted to try out my new smartphone's camera. Yes, I have finally joined the tech age! We stopped at Noppagao Thai Cuisine on our way home. Almost drove past it but am I ever glad that we didn't! I spent eight months in Thailand teaching field surgery techniques and I have fond memories of the people, country and food. While there are certainly any number of good Thai restaurants in San Antonio, only Nappagao checked all my boxes. It's family-run and you'll see the family at the table near the kitchen. They were friendly and welcoming and no sooner had we seated ourselves, our server brought the menus and utensils. She did not immediately ask what we wanted to drink but left to let us peruse the menu--I like that. After she took our order, she carefully read it back so as to assure everything was correct. Another check. Now the food. (I heard you say "finally,"--respect your elders, you young whippersnapper!) The menu presents you with several options; some familiar, some not. No surprises with the categories--noodle dishes, curries, soups, rice dishes--although there were some surprises within those categories: Spicy and Sour Curry with Cha-Om Omelette, Vermicelli with Spicy Fish Curry and Coconut Milk and Pink Noodle Soup to name a few. And they also have a small offering of something I haven't seen on other Thai menus--street food. We ordered Spring Rolls for an appetizer, Peg had Pad Kee Mao (quintessential Thai dish by which I judge the chef's skill) and from the street food offerings, Three Best Friends for me. The Spring Rolls were small but their flavor was huge and they were plentiful. Many similar appetizers usually fall short, flavor-wise, but not these. I could have easily had two or three orders for my entire meal and would have been satisfied. Peg's Pad Kee Mao was a thing of beauty, as you can see from the photo. We took a taste and we were immediately in Thailand! Few places have such totally authentic flavors and every component was cooked properly. And my Three Best Friends--just blew me away. BBQ pork, fried pork belly and Chinese sausage atop a bed of rice with boiled egg, peanut red seasoning sauce, cucumber and to finish it off, a small bowl of soup. All three "friends" were cooked to perfection, especially the pork belly. Every place I dipped chopsticks or spoon revealed subtle nuances not immediately discernable. The soup was a delicately flavored, clear broth with bits of parsley and green onion. Just the thing to make one feel that all's well with the world. And on the table there were six--count 'em, six--condiments: Sriracha, soy sauce, chili oil, dried chilis (adds heat without disturbing the other flavors), and two vinegar-based sauces (relishes, really) garlic and pepper. The kitchen sends you the dish, you add the condiments you like, as I experienced in Thailand. And if, like us, you're a fan of Thai Iced Tea, this is your place. Only $2.99 with refills! Yes, refills. We had two glasses of it and were offered a third for the road! By the way, the name of the restaurant means "prosperity" and I wish them tons of that! If you are looking for something different, or something familiar that's elevated to other realms, I encourage you to give Noppagao Thai Cuisine a try. Go, eat, thank me later! read more

Noppagao is a regular place for Thai food for us to frequent. We have never been disappointed! Our favorites are PadThai w/ chicken or pork or Pad Woosen! Their servings are huge but absolutely delicious! One other favorite, as of yet, is their Egg Rolls and Cucumber Salad...quite satisfying!!! The staff are very friendly and accommodating! My wife and I had to head out to San Antonio and decided we should eat lunch before our appointment. We considered Indian and Thai since there aren't quality options of that cuisine in our area. After looking at Yelp, we chose Noppagao based on Yellers' feedback...well, a crowd-sourced review wouldn't always jibe with our preferences. Having been to Thailand a couple of times before, we always look forward to its cuisine's bold and spicy flavors. We ordered Summer Rolls with chicken (wife developed shellfish allergy so no shrimp) to start. My wife then ordered Pad See Ew with tofu and I ordered Pad Kra Pao with ground pork. The summer rolls were quite beefy...in size. The chicken lacked flavor but the peanut sauce more than made up for it. The peanut sauce was creamy and had a sweet taste to it...we liked it. My dish was served first and it looked paler than what I'm used to but the taste was decent. I ordered it medium spicy and it could stand to have additional spiciness. My wife's dish looked pale as well but had decent flavors...with firm tofu cubes. Serving sizes were generous as we had leftovers and value was decent. We thought the dishes we sampled were decent but not deserving lofty ratings. I probably would've been coaxed to give this place 4 stars BUT service was detached and inattentive. I don't know if they're understaffed, but expected better service when they weren't all that busy. Only about 4-5 tables were occupied when we were eating but our server never came by to check on us nor refilled our drinks. We waited a while to even pay and I had to stand and head up to the counter to be acknowledged. Lunch for 2 came up to less than $40 with tip. read more

Noppagao! This is a solid thai restuaraunt by the Medical Center! This place offers takeout in a speedy manner. We got this place delivered via Uber Eats. They have a wide variety of Thai food and even some Chinese if you can't handle the Thai. When I was asked how I'd like my Pad Thai, my request for "spicy" was changed to "Thai Spicy." When I opened the styrofoam clamshell box containing my noodle dish, I could smell the spice fumes coming off the meal. This is one of the few restaurants that was able to make it 'too spicy!' I still ate it, but I was sweating, panting, wheezing- it was delightful! I know where I'm coming next time I have allergies and need to clear out the ol' sinuses! You better call first or have a backup plan if you're intending to go. They've gotten me the last three times I tried to give them money. Service is hit or miss. Our first visit was on a weekend. The food was amazing and VERY spicy. Our second visit was on a Wednesday evening and the food was good but not amazing. The first order we said medium hot. The second we said plain and spiced ourselves. The sauce was not the same as the first visit but it was a different plate and maybe it was a different cook. Both were the house sauce. The service was good. Several of the waitresses are Thai and do not speak English well but we were able to communicate. This is authentic food and the menu is extensive. Asian Food loving family, here's a must try Thai restaurant in San Antonio to add to your food repertoire--Noppagao Thai Cuisine located in the Medical Center area in a tiny strip mall, next door to Ray's Pizzeria. I was totally impressed with the variety of choices and the service at this restaurant. The options are extensive and more diverse than what you normally see at Thai restaurants in San Antonio. The restaurant is run by a bunch of ladies who look like they are family and they know how to throw-down when it comes to cooking Thai food. We put them through their paces and ordered Thai Tea, spring rolls, fried potstickers, Green Papaya salad, Pad Thai and Pad Woo Sen. The food was tasty. The spring rolls were bite sized and full of just the right mix of chicken and aromatics. And guess what ya'll, the waitresses at this restaurant give out free refills on the Thai tea. What the what? FREE refills on Thai tea--that NEVER happens, but it does at Noppagao. The prices were reasonable and the portions were plentiful. A lot of the items on the dinner menu were just $10 - $12 and most of the appetizers were between $5 to $7.00. In fact, I was so full I had to pack up my papaya salad without even tasting it. We brought home enough leftovers for at least two to three additional meals. I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience at Noppagao and so did the college kid. She raved about the food and this kid has quite the sophisticated palate when it comes to dining out. So Gentle readers, what do I recommend you do? Run, don't walk, to try the food at Noppagao. We tried a couple items on the menu: Fish cakes- made fresh in house, reminds me of Thailand Tiger cry- good portion size with an amazing spicy fish sauce dipping sauce Green curry- curry is not as thick as normal, but still very flavorful Spicy fish curry vermicelli- decently spicy but flavorful and delicious! Fish is not in slices though, more of a minced form. Never had this elsewhere. Pad thai- solid choice, fairly standard Thai tea- stronger than the Thai coffee. It's sweet but no sweeter than expected from a Thai tea. Stronger than other Thai teas, can taste the spices. I recommend trying!
