We went a little early to explore the ranch. The grandkids enjoyed the train ride. The Navajo rug weaver was amazing. She was very friendly and informative, and watching her mother spin yarn from sheep's wool was great. The Native American dancing was a very moving thing to watch. It was interesting to hear how they are keeping the culture alive and pushing their children to get an education and help their people. GREAT experience with friends. These folks know how to feed you. You can stroll the grounds which are lovely. This ranch is tucked into the red rocks hog back west of Colorado Springs and the setting is gorgeous. They roll the animals out for you to see, etc. Cattle, mini-horses and donkeys. Goats for the kids. You can even test your archery skills or your hatchet throwing skills. There's a Native American demo of dancing also before dinner. Dinner itself is extraordinarily organized. But before that begins is GRACE! A Blessing for sure. They can stuff hundreds of folks through 4 food lines VERY quickly. And the food? The food is just fine! Beans, chicken, brisket, potatoes, applesauce, a biscuit and cake. Lots of it AND seconds are also on the menu! You WON'T leave hungry! They have plenty of staff circulating to refresh drinks and clean up after you. THEN come the Flying W Wranglers. GREAT harmonies. Good ol' western music + some gospel! A group of six seniors on a Monday night. The weather was perfect for an early evening at the "W". First time here since the fire. Parking was plentiful and golf carts are readily available to cart those that need assistance. A gorgeous setting and the grounds are well maintained. We wandered around for about an hour and then settled in the outdoor amphitheater for the Native American Indian dance show. About a twenty minute performance, very nice. We then headed in to the pavilion (covered) for the dinner and show. Very well organized and everyone gets served in rapid fashion. Surprise, the food is very good. Personally I cleaned my plate and if you so desire you can go back for more. I was too full to go back for more. The tin plate held brisket, BBQ chicken, beans, baked potato, apple sauce, a biscuit and a piece of spice cake. The tables are cleared and the music begins. This is definitely a family friendly event. They have everything from Indian dancers, petting zoo with goats, sheep, emus, and llamas, ax, throwing, and archery sections. There are plenty of places to go on little hikes. There are turkeys miniature donkeys, all long being supervised by wranglers on horses. The chuckwagon dinner itself was not really authentic kinda sent you through a line and slap stuff on your tin plate. The food was OK. The cowboy beans were delicious and the head of the show was the applesauce for some reason. The live music was definitely worth it. They really put on a good show. This is my second time to the Flying W Ranch, and both time have been great! The grounds have lots of activities including animals, axe throwing, and horse carriage rides. There was a lot of rain on my second visit, but the staff did their best to bring the activities under cover. They even had a Native American dance and started dinner early. The food is served promptly and by table in buffet style. However, it takes less than 15 minutes for the hundreds of people to get their food. Impressive! My husband loves the brisket, and I love the cinnamon apples and biscuits. While expensive, it's a great family-friendly outing. After having friends tell us how great Flying W Ranch was for an evening out, we decided to book tickets, with them, for the last show of the season. Upon arrival we were directed to park, very basic simple dirt lot parking & it was very fluid. From here you made your way to the ticket counter, where you are provided with your tickets & table number. The location is stunning. From the moment you step out of your vehicle you're enveloped by a feeling of days past in an atmosphere that is unlike any other. We took the hour & a half prior to dinner & wandered throughout. The amount of activities & things to watch/do was extraordinary. We loved the spread out nature of the location, no matter where you were or what you were doing it was not a "packed" feeling, which was amazing. The dinner announcement was funny & the tips on how to move through the chuckwagon line allowed for it again to be a very fluid, and speedy. We had patio, hightop seats just outside the indoor seating. There is heating that they turn on as it gets later. It did get a little warm for us, but is great if you like being outdoors, but need a little warmth to take the chill off. Onto one of the biggest highlights, the food!!! I was excited for the entire meal, except the applesauce & spice cake. I typically don't like either, however, I cleaned my plate. Every aspect of the meal was delicious. The baked potato was so creamy, that it was like mashed potatoes. The brisket, chicken & trail beans had the best flavor. The biscuits were exactly what I expected, the applesauce & spice cake were incredible. The show followed & did not disappoint. One of the best moments was when they introduced one of the original gentlemen who was part of the original group in 1953. Hearing him speak & sing was a delight. We enjoyed every aspect of this entire experience!! From the ranch animals & Sweetwater Plains Dancers to axe throwing, food, & show, this was something I will recommend in the future to anyone who asks for a genuinely great, family friendly & fun experience. LOVED IT!! This is going down In history as one of my favorite experiences ever!!! It's worth coming from just about anywhere in the US for!! If it was possible to leave a higher star review I would! My mom surprised me with this experience and we had the best time! The ranch is absolutely beautiful! We arrived at 5:00. When we went they were doing their version of the Olympics! So we got to do a ton of fun things like horse shoes, lassoing, axe throwing, and archery. We also did partook in some of their all the time experiences such as wagon rides, train rides, seeing the animals etc... I love the fact that they provide time for you to experience and enjoy the ranch. The Cowboys and all staff were positively wonderful!!!! Everyone was so friendly and clearly passionate about the farm and having fun along with the rest of us! At 6:30 you are to be seated at your table to begin dinner. After the supper time triangle is ring you are dismissed in table groups. I'll just say that I love the way they do seating! We got do meet and dine with some lovely people! The food was quite good! Love the classic bumpkin bbq! Brisket was super flavorful and the biscuits were perfect! It's so beautiful to see and hear a huge amount of people dining with each other! After dinner the fun really begins!! The owner of the ranch came out and talked for a few minutes sharing the history and such and then she introduced the FLYING W WRANGLERS!!! I tell you what I haven't had that much fun in a long time! The band is so wonderful, talented, and funny! I love how dynamic the group is! The harmonies were simply stunning! ‍ I especially enjoyed seeing Luke and Ethan preform! After the concert was over they offered pictures and meet and greet. Doors open at 5pm, so make plans to get there early and take advantage of all of the amazing things they have to offer. Easy check in, no nonsense. Drinks were on point. We got seated to be first through the food line, which was great. I miss the chicken legs and brisket, but the thighs and smoked steak delivered tonight, no complaints there. Then the Wranglers kicked off. My family and I went here last night to celebrate our twins' 8th birthday. From the reviews, we were expecting a very family-friendly experience. We arrived promptly at 5:00 to try to take advantage of as many of the activities and animal encounters as we could before dinner began. The kids saw a sign about miniature ponies and donkeys, so we walked in that direction first. A woman behind an fence asked a kid next to us if he would like to feed one of the donkeys. He said yes, and she handed him an apple slice. This child was no more than 2 feet away from me and my four children, so of course my kids then all wanted to feed a donkey too. They waited quietly and patiently for the woman to finish talking to the boy next to us and his parents. Since she was clutching a bag of apple slices (presumably to pass out to more children), we were all expecting that she would then make our kids the same offer they saw her make the boy next to us. But she just walked right past us and started talking to a new group of people who had just approached a different end of the fence. Assuming she somehow didn't notice us standing right there, we waited a few more minutes so as not to interrupt her conversation, and then I said, "Excuse me, would it be possible for these guys to feed the donkeys too?" An annoyed and exasperated expression washed over her face, and instead of even directly answering my question, she paused, gave me a blank stare, and then VERY begrudgingly walked over and started handing apple slices to my kids saying absolutely nothing to them except, "Cinnamon is the only one who can handle that." And then she immediately walked away. So then my two 8 year olds and two 4 year olds who had already been waiting about 10 minutes to feed a donkey were left wondering who Cinnamon was, believing there was only one donkey they had permission to feed but not knowing which one it was. After we eventually figured it out, we got to enjoy the grounds for about 10 more minutes before it started to rain. We knew rain was a possibility when we bought the tickets, but we assumed there was some kind of decent rain plan in place. Instead, they just shut all the outdoor activities down and moved the Native American dance performance indoors to an area that only the very front row of tables could possibly see. Everyone else had to watch it on a screen. The dancers were talented, but we were expecting a performance that would honor their culture and heritage, and perhaps a moment's acknowledgment (no matter how vague or brief) of the oppression their people have faced. Instead, our children got to hear the Native American man with a microphone make repeated jokes such as, "Don't be afraid! We're friendly Indians. We no 'scalp em' no more." I understand that as a white woman I'm not entitled to an opinion about what any Native American person calls him or herself. But it felt like he was pandering to a predominantly white, elderly, conservative crowd who he knew had no sincere interest in his culture, heritage, traditions, or the magnitude of the suffering his ancestors experienced at the hands of theirs. It just didn't feel dignified or respectful, and my husband and I were both uncomfortable with our children hearing it. Then came a pre-dinner video, in which the narrator made a point to mention that they have "One restroom for women, and one restroom for men," followed by a little smirk and pause for all the MAGA folks to approvingly chuckle. It was such an unnecessary comment, and I literally cannot think of a single reason they would expressly state that in a video other than to not-so-subtly express their political views on the issue of transgender rights. I was not expecting to receive such politicized "entertainment" when I bought tickets for what I thought would be a fun night out with my family. Giving two stars just because the food was decent, but if you have young kids and/or even moderately progressive values, you probably won't feel welcome here. And if it rains, 70% of the experience you paid for goes out the window. read more

Interesting evening out at Flying W Ranch. We arrived at 4:45 and had plenty of time to walk around and see the sites. It's good to know there is more then just the show and food. The employees we spoke to were all very friendly. There are a few activities: goats, bison to see, hiking, axe throwing, archery, and more. My favorite part of the evening was watching the Indian dancers. A 62 yr old woman doing a hoop dance - 10 hoops!! I believe there were 200 diners that evening. Everyone had their food within 15 minutes! It's served buffet style and vegetarian and gluten free are available. On the menu: beans, brisket, Turkey, sausage, baked potato, applesauce, rolls, and cinnamon cake (cookie for gf). Only thing missing was a veggie. The show was good, clean fun. Background video was a nice addition. We were disappointed there were no women performers. Flying W knows how to feed a crowd amazingly delicious food quickly (and offered seconds) and how to put on an amazing Western music show. We left with happy hearts and very full bellies. Removed a star because they chose to use obviously AI-generated cowboy videos behind the band and those in our party agreed that the unreal videos were distracting and seemed a disinguous. Purchased tickets online. They do provide a military discount and Senior discounts. The gates open at 5:00PM. We got there around 4:50PM and waited in our car then once it becomes 5:00PM then open the gates. Once you park you then you check in at the ticket booth. No need to print your tickets. They will retrieve your tickets by your last name. They will assign you a table once you get your tickets. Highly recommend that you go directly to your table that you are assigned to and put a jacket or another item to reserve your seat. We used carrying bags and jackets to reserve our seat then we Walked around the ranch. Plenty of things to do and see around the ranch before dinner. They call you to dinner by your assigned table. You walk up to the stations and they serve you. The lines go actually pretty quick when they serve you. The food was just ok. Nothing to write home about. My favorite items was the biscuits, baked potato and applesauce. With your meal they serve tea, lemonade and coffee. If you get coffee bring a napkin with you because the cup is EXTREMELY hot. They have water but they don't open the area up until dinner. The water is located at each of the stage in the corner attached to the wall. Highly recommend you bring some bottles of water or soda. They do sell fountain soda and water. Bottle of water is $2.00'plus tax and a large Diet Coke is $5.00 and tasted horrible. The soda was extremely flat. The seating is either long picnic tables and benches or long high top tables with chairs with backs. We sat right in front of the stage at table 20. If I would go again to take family that visits I would call and order my tickets over the phone to request a long table with chairs. I would have preferred to sit at the long tables with the chairs near the gift shop because it is so much cooler. The picnic benches inside the barn gets way to hot. If you have a bad back then I highly recommend you request a table with chairs. It is also much cooler than sitting at the picnic tables. You get a nice breeze at the tables with chairs. Show started at 7:45PM and ended at 8:45PM. We left right after the show ended and didn't have a problem getting out of the parking lot. They also have handicapped parking and golf cart shuttles to take you to the building from the parking lot if you need assistance. The show was pretty good and the guys were pretty funny. They do not sell alcohol. If they did they would probably make a fortune. A cold beer on a hot night would have tasted great. read more
