They have an expanded area seating in the back that has more tables, throws, and heaters. The person who greeted us was so friendly and helpful when we had questions about what to order, and even checked to confirm whether the chips are gluten free (they are not). They have a Celiac option for making food if you have concerns about cross contamination, which I really appreciated. The prices are very reasonable and the food was delicious! We sat in the back and we were warm under the heaters. The person who helped us even came back to check on us and put our leftovers in a container for us. Incredible food!! Always has something great to eat. Staff and owner are super nice and very knowledgeable. Never had a bad experience here! Also saw that they got a fountain drink machine so there's a few more sodas available which I think is great! Sitting inside is nice but I love the back porch, it's a great place to hang out and eat with some friends and enjoy some fresh air too!! I've seen complaints about price... but these are high quality ingredients and everything is handmade. This isn't Taco Bell, if you want cheap tacos go somewhere else. First of all, the food is excellent. One taco with the fried queso is enough for a filling dinner for me. Every time we have out-of-town guests, we take them here, and our guests always rave about the food until they come back. Frank and Kate care so much that their taco shop is a welcoming place, and it is. They hire young staff and train them on how to communicate with the public, and they give so much to this community. The customer service was top notch! We met the owner during our visit and he was so welcoming and thanked us for driving out to try the tacos! The front counter staff member was also just as kind and welcoming and even provided us with some salsa samples! Unfortunately, we were not fans of the salsas they were more on the bitter, smokey side but that's just personal preference! We ordered the asada taco and one carnita taco! Both were packed with toppings and decent flavor! Expect a street taco size. The restaurant is small and has high top seats. It's tough to get in and out if you have a large stroller or big group. They mentioned they have outdoor seating in the back but I didn't go look. They do play some good music!! read more

I've been keeping and eye on this place for a month and I'm so excited that we got to be there for the soft opening. I love tacos and this is exactly what the food scene in Rockford needed! L.A. style tacos with house made corn tortillas! We tried their "soft opening" special - one each of the carne asada, chicken, and pulled pork. My favorite was the pork, my wife's favorite was the steak, and my son's favorite was the chicken. The tortillas was perfect, freshly made, easily foldable with no tearing or falling out the bottom, with a tiny bit of crispness from the grill, true expertise there from the chef! The toppings were fantastic and the perfect amount and flavor pairings with the accompanying meats, so well done. I can't wait to visit again when they have their full menu. We had been hearing and reading about F 'n K Tacos for some time and were very happy to find ourselves in Rockford and hungry over the weekend. Located in a small space on Courtland St., it was easy to find, and we were happy that they had several outdoor tables in the back because the counter space in the front was occupied. The person taking our order was super friendly and helpful, sharing some of her favorites with us as we perused the menus on the whiteboards on the wall. My husband and I each chose a machaca beef taco, and he then also went with an al pastor and I chose a pork barbacoa. They were all fantastic! The homemade tortillas were lightly grilled on one side, moist, and flavorful, the proteins were very lean and not overcooked, and the seasoning on each one was spot on - the lime squeeze brought it all together. We added an order of homemade chips and salsa. The chips were excellent, and we would likely request a slightly less mild salsa next time. So here it is in a nutshell, the tacos were superb and the staff was welcoming, so we'll clearly be back any time we're in Rockford. But there's one more thing. Rude, rude, rude! My daughter and 2 classmates went in to purchase gift cards and got berated by the owner. Very inappropriate. And no apology. That's a great way to build a customer base. I can't speak for the food as I haven't eaten there yet, but based on the way that they treated 3 16 year old girls that were just looking to buy gift cards FOR THEIR TEACHERS, I will NOT be be trying the food as it's likely as shitty as the owners attitude. My husband and father loved the food but for me it was a little dull as I like spicy food, hence the 3 stars but if you like non spicy food this is your place. Service was awesome and I liked how the staff asked us what kind of vegetarian category we are so he understood what we would like. I hail from a family of taco lovers. Having grown up in Dallas, you familiarize yourself with quality Mexican food. Being the son of a taco restaurant CEO, I learned a bit about dining experience. Let me tell ya I love a good "hole in the wall", cheap, and tasty Mexican restaurant. This however is not exactly that..... but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Food is great. Option limited, but the "quesa taco" adds some variety to any option in the menu. Pork barbacoa is amazing..... especially quesa taco style Nothing beats a Mexican Coca Cola with tacos. But buyer be warned these tacos are small and carry a hefty price. 4-5 dollars per taco. Add another two for the" quesa taco "style. If I was in the UFC I'd no doubt be a fly weight..... but I could honestly down 4 tacos and still have some hunger. Sodas are 2-3 bucks each too. The bill for the photo of food below came out to nearly $50. Quality comes with a price don't get me wrong. But in terms of dining experience there is none. Couple of high top tables at a wooden bar. Again not the end of the world, but when I drop a pretty penny I'd enjoy being in said restaurant for more than 15 min. Again, not necessarily a bad thing. The food is AMAZING. Orale carnales and carnalitas,! Get you some FnK Tacos in your life (pro tip: get the loaded potato with carne asada for a post workout carb and protein reload). I'm from San Diego but recently moved back to the GR area for my second stint. I've had a long-standing rule of not eating the Mexican food in Michigan. Not only was I spoiled by SoCal Mexican food, but I'm a damn good cook and so I could make better Mexican food (tacos included) at my house. But sometimes you don't want to cook, and I wished there was quality Mexican food nearby. Enter FnK Tacos. I randomly searched the internet one day for good tacos near where I live, Rockford. FnK Tacos came up. Their website said they came here from SoCal, and that was all I needed to give them a shot. Stoked that I did! These are probably the best tacos you can get anywhere around the Grand Rapids area. I crush like 8-10 of these a week, along with one or two loaded baked potatoes. The rest of my family crushes another 20-30 a week. I once bought 75 tacos from this place and took it to my block party. Every single person who tried them said that they loved the tacos. I've seen some complaints about the price. Unfortunately, that's the price for fresh, quality food in Michigan. San Diego has fresh produce and other ingredients basically growing on the sides of roads. I, for one, do not want to sacrifice quality for a cheaper product. This ain't your typical Midwest taco, with ground beef with taco seasoning stuffed in a premade shell with wilted lettuce and soggy, mealy tomato's thrown on top of a bed of Kraft cheddar cheese. I can crush 15 of this with no post-meal heartburn, and my gut doesn't feel weighed down for hours. So, keep the quality the same, damn the price! I also like how this place is staffed by young, local Rockford kids. I think they're doing awesome, and they're learning good things from Frank (the owner). He seems like a good boss. Plus, these kids are all learning how to make good Mexican food, thus changing the lives of their future children who otherwise would have grown up only knowing ground beef seasoned with McCormick taco season, and spooned into a 227 day old 'corn tortilla shell'. The ambiance is dope, too. In SoCal, everyone LOVES what we call "hole in the wall Mexican food". This place has that vibe. So get yourself to FnK's and crush some quality tacos. My favorite is the beef Machaca. I get it standard-style, not queso-style, which I understand a lot of people love. Don't forget the loaded potato either, especially post-workout. Here's one request I'd make: start developing a really good caldo de pollo. I think mine is pretty good. The standard is Lourdes' caldo de polllo, in Escondido, CA. It's the platonic form, actually. Let me start by saying the tacos are good, the tortillas are legit, the meat is... Fine. Now... Let's move on to the operations... I have never in my life seen a kitchen with 5 people working take 20-30 minutes to make two tacos. I get you're trying to make them fresh but you need to learn what an assembly line is. You make tacos and quesadillas. No business survive if you're making one order at a time. A taco truck turned store front should be experts at having everything prepped and ready to keep orders flying out of the kitchen. I'll finish by reiterating, the tacos taste good. For those who found the food "not very flavorful" or "not spicy", I would say the meats taste like meat, well seasoned meat. The extra flavor or spiciness can be added to your taste. Some place have the meat so heavily seasoned, that you really get no defined meat flavor, just taste the seasoning. I much prefer it this way. Great food & service! We loved their handmade corn tortillas & salsas - poured the green & red over everything. Classic Mexican taco toppings over several kinds of tacos & quesadillas. We tried all 3 of the kinds of tacos offered the day we had them + a quesadilla and then some chips and salsa too because we couldn't get enough of the salsas. Everything was great, my boyfriends favorite was the Al Pastor, while mine was (surprisingly) the chicken. Chicken tacos are usually so dry and flavorless so I never order them, but these were amazing! I've heard they added barbacoa since we came last ... will have to try it eventually ;) We enjoyed a wine tasting flight with our tacos with the beautiful vineyard backdrop & live music. Great walk-in place for delicious street tacos. Indoor seating is very limited but it's nice to grab a seat outside to eat by the dam.

Not very flavorful. We tried 3 of the 4 tacos on the daily menu (skipped the vegetarian, although I think it's smart to offer an option like that). Great staff, short wait for a saturday night (less than 10 minutes) and I would say on the cheaper end for fast casual dining. I was super pumped to have something other than hotdogs in Rockford but the tacos were flavorless. We couldn't distinguish any difference between the pork and chicken. The asada was the best of the three but it wasn't great. Couple of pointers- raise your prices, use salt or literally any flavor to make the tacos stand out, keep your shells on the flat top so they are warm (tacos el cunado style)- ours were soggy at best, and for to go tacos put them in foil, the shells that were touching were almost inedible they were so soggy. I'll try it again after they've been open for a while but to rate this any higher for now would be a tacoevestry. More flavor in the protein, better mousetrap for to go containers. read more

Stopped here for the first time last night and was blown out of the water! My spouse and I lived in CA for the past 14 years, moving back to MI last year. One of the biggest things we missed about CA was the amazing food. Specifically fresh, local, delicious, Mexican taco shop food. Well, we shall miss it no more!! These tacos are legit. You can tell the owners really have a passion for what they do and put a lot of "love" into the food that they serve. Everything was top notch. The handmade tortillas, the juicy and flavorful meats, and the salsas oh the salsas!! I really enjoyed the tacos "franks way/style" with all the extra cheese melted crispy onto the tortilla. I was so happy to be eating a taste of our other "home" that I got up and gave one of the owners a hug. Side note, both of the owners Frank and Kaitlin were super friendly and just pleasant to be around. Rockford is so fortunate to have F'n K Tacos in our little town, what a gem. I will be frequenting this place often, even if it means I have to workout an extra day a week. read more
