The chashu bun was so sadly mediocre I could have gotten a frozen one from global foods and heated it up at my house and it would have tasted better. Water had no ice, I had to ask for plates and napkins, the potato business was ok, fire dragon roll my son liked. The black guy with the green shirt working there actually said "are yall STILL waiting on your check, my goodness". Then he checked us out at a different register. He clearly looked annoyed. The check came and I was floored. This is honestly the worst ramen/sushi spot I've ever been to in my life, hands down.

During my visit here, I saw dishonest pricing practices and manipulative behavior that broke my trust with the restaurant as a customer. And the other reviews show this as a pattern. I wouldn't be so harsh had I not seen other diners say the same thing. The "friendly" approach by the owner, asking where you're from and sharing how many people travel to dine here, isn't genuine hospitality. It's a tactic to catch you off guard and encourage you to spend more. Everything about this interaction felt calculated, and the constant upselling only reinforced that impression. It felt like being a mark for a used car salesman. I'm not being cynical - you'll see why below. Here's what happened: 1. I got into the restaurant and for the whole time I was there, there was only one other table was occupied on a Friday night. Décor was outdated and a bit crumbly. 2. I ordered at the front, and while I was looking at the prices, they said there's no reason to look at the overhead menu, saying that I can look at the pictures of the items in front of me (conveniently without prices). 3. Owner asks "friendly questions" that try to get you off guard, like where you're from, what you do for work, stuff that a normal cashier never asks. Common used car salesman tactic. 4. Then, they asked to upsell stuff 3 separate times (All add-on prices are not marked). I don't mind a little upselling but with all the other things, it was very manipulative. They asked if I wanted dumplings, drinks, or "anything else." It wasn't a single statement. I answered no three separate times because one question came after the other. It shows she really wanted to get all this out of you. 5. Without being asked, they preemptively said, "We're not McDonald's, so we're not fast." Strange comment, especially since I hadn't brought up timing. 6. Bill came out. The receipt didn't match the menu prices or the prices displayed in the photos. See website photo (matches the menu prices). And it was $29.65 for a menu item that was $23.95. With 6% sales tax in this county, it should have been $25.39. So she just stole $4.26 from me. A small amount, but totally breaks any trust that you aren't just scamming people. Looks like it's not an isolated incident based on the other reviews. 7. Also the food didn't look like the menu item at all. They clearly covered up the roll with sauce to hide the fact that they had so few ingredients. The food was mediocre. The sushi rice tasted old and clumpy, the unagi was pretty thin. The veggie roll was just avocado and rice, not even with like cucumbers for many. While not inedible, it certainly didn't justify the fake $29.50 price tag Overall, I was really mad at this experience, and The combination of deceptive pricing, mediocre food, and tactics designed to extract every dollar left me feeling disappointed and misled. I cannot recommend this place to anyone. Like a tea house scam. To the owner, who has replied to messages in the past. You should think about why I and other reviewers have given 1 stars, and are writing about being scammed. I recommend an immediate apology and upgrade of your menu. You should also wonder if scamming customers is actually making you more money. The truth is you would make more money by being honest!

OK - complaint right up front: We sit at the sushi bar to watch the chefs cut fish. The sushi bar is well below the level of the counter, so you can't see them preparing the sushi. (Put up a mirror or closed circuit TV, or raise the level of seating (and eating) guys!) In other words, don't bother sitting at the sushi bar - get a table. On to the food: Miso and salad: As good as you will find around here. Tempura: Nicely coated and lightly fried, not too greasy. Consisted of ebi, onion, sweet potato, green bean, broccoli, - i.e., the usual suspects. Nice. (Could have used just a little more dipping sauce.) Bait: We had the platter for 2. Nice assortment of fish, beautifully presented. All fresh and tasty. We did notice that the sushi under the fish (鮨飯 sushi-meshi*) did not hold together well, maybe because it wasn't sufficiently compacted, but the rolls with the rice on the outside were a bit sticky. (Eat it in one bite; don't try dipping twice.) But it was great tasting and texture rice, and overall the sushi was very tasty, and served with a generous helping of wasabi and pickled ginger. (Don't expect real fresh ground wasabi at this price point.) Service: Very good, especially for a new restaurant. Price: Somewhere between Tokyo Steakhouse and Asian Pan, which is good, because: Overall: The experience was overall very nice, somewhere between Tokyo Steakhouse and Asian Pan. Ambiance and food comparable to Tokyo Steakhouse but maybe a little less expensive. Better sushi and ambiance than Asian Pan. We recently visited Fo Bistro for my buddy's going away event as he heads off to officer candidate school, and he couldn't have picked a better spot! From start to finish, the experience was incredible. We were lucky to snag seats right across from the chefs, which made the evening extra special. The chefs were not only talented but also so friendly and engaging, making the experience feel personal and welcoming. We opted for the omakase dinner, and it was a decision we won't forget! To start, the chefs surprised us with an on-the-house appetizer of tempura-style salmon--absolutely amazing. This was followed by a comforting bowl of miso soup and a fresh, crisp salad. The main event was nothing short of spectacular: a beautifully presented boat filled with a variety of nigiri, sashimi, and sushi rolls that were fresh, flavorful, and artfully crafted. The cozy dining atmosphere was perfect for the occasion. We paired the meal with a large bottle of Sapporo and some warm sake, which complemented the sushi perfectly. If you're looking for a lowkey sushi spot that delivers an experience on par with the more "northern" spots in VA, Fo Bistro is the place to be. So this is the place that was amazing enough for me to start a Yelp account. My hubs is shocked because he's known me for 35 yrs, so actually going this far is high praise. For one, the food is amazing! That goes without saying. We have been loyal customers of another establishment for at least 8 YRS considered the best since they opened, but Fo has eloped with our hearts! This is the best Poke I've had in the DC area, and it's in a mall food court! Coincidentally, the other time I visited was a Wednesday too. My girlfriend & I were traveling back from Myrtle Beach, SC on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. We got to the mall in time to eat dinner before the movie we wanted to see with a little bit of time to spare to walk around the mall in addition to simply eating. I told her how great Pokerea was. Everything was just as great as I remembered, and she thought it was great too. If I'm back down that direction, I'd definitely be back.
