I found Focus on Yelp a few months ago and today was my second visit to the salon. Lindsey does amazing work and styled my hair exactly how I wanted. My hair has natural red undertones and can be very sensitive to blonde highlights, but Lindsey is very knowledgeable with the products she uses and knew exactly what to put on my hair to keep if from looking orange/ brassy. My hair has never felt so soft and strong after a coloring. The staff is very friendly and the prices are reasonable for the services. If you have expensive hair and expect to receive a service from stylists who know what they are doing then this is NOT the place!! the owner kim is terrible. I got my tape ins (worth $800) done & they destroyed them. Also, I asked & checked their website on how much they charge which is $50 an hour. I was there an hour and a half & charged $120!? I asked for a refund because my extensions were so messed up (I only had them 2 weeks) that my own hair was being damaged & now I have BALD SPOTS!! My extensions are meant to last in my head 6-8 weeks... they barely lasted 2 weeks and were falling out!! on top of that there was so much glue/tape wrapped around my hair and on the outside of my extensions that i was getting dreadlocks! i should have known they had no idea what they were doing when i was walking the stylist through inserting my extensions!!! kim fought with me & lied about what happened with my experience when he wasn't even working on my hair!! The extensions company even said it's a SALON ERROR and when I told them what happened on the phone they even said they believe he is lying!! My bank's giving me my $ back b/c they feel so bad. My experience with Focus Salon and Kim began when I bid on a gift basket which included PM products and a cut/style. Not being blessed with too many "good features", I can certainly use a hair style that is as flattering as possible. All I knew is that I wanted something as close to wash & wear hair as possible. And being 60+, I wanted it to be natural and fresh. No "old lady" hair. You know, done once a week hair, teased to death, lacquered down, stays in place until the next week!?! What I received was a wonderful, stylish cut that is so flattering, everyone wanted to know what I did to lose weight and who was the new man in my life. I booked a facial for the first time at Focus Salon, and Ashlee was great!!! She asked me what my skin concerns were and addressed them all. She did extractions and I left the salon with glowing skin! Ashlee also recommended products that would help with my skin type. After thirty-something years, you can imagine what oil and dirt can accumulate in your skin. I was long overdue for giving my skin some love. I booked my very first facial with Torilla, which was an hour-long. I filled out a questionnaire so she could assess the best type of treatment my oily skin needed. I appreciated that she explained the products and tools she was about to use on my face, and none of them were abrasive chemicals or painful at all. When I left the salon, I didn't end up with much redness, which I feared I would get after seeing the aftermath of chemical peels gone wrong. It's now Day 3, and my skin looks and feels fabulous. I anticipated some blemishes to surface, but I haven't seen anything so far. Perhaps it helped that I didn't use makeup in the last couple days and mostly stayed indoors. I was first introduced to this salon by a mutual friend of mine and Megans. I was at the time looking for advice on where to start cosmetology school and connected with Megan to talk about her experiences. After several chats I felt like I had what I needed in that regard and decided to make an appointment to get my hair cut and styled. I went in and Megan was EXTREMELY comforting to be around, the overall attitude of acceptance in this salon was nice. Being transgender I get hesitant to let people touch my hair, I've been at a salon where when I asked for a 'feminine' style I was given a masculine style with a twist. This is not what I want at all. The entire time I was in the chair I made it a point not to look at the cut, I wanted to be surprised. I came in with what resembled a semi-mullet thanks to another 'high end salon' in the same area and when she finished I looked for the first time and nearly burst into tears. If it wasn't for Megans happy go lucky attitude I probably would have broken down then and there. Since that cut I've been back for more cuts, education, and even a color. She does great work and I'm happy to have met her and to have gone to Focus. In addition to the services she gave me, she was more than willing to show me how to flat iron my hair at home, what products to use to protect it, and even showed me some stuff I was going to learn at school (I'm attending a Paul Mitchell School). Megan my stylist took the time to explain how everything would go and what room we would start in, etc. She was very friendly. She sat down with me for a good 15 minutes and we dicussed colors, pro's/con's, the shape my hair was in and what I wanted. After a terrible experience at Arella Bella Salon and after doing some research and reading reviews, I picked Focus Salon as my next destination. This place is wonderful! The people are friendly, professional, and helpful. I was a walk-in and sort of had an idea of what I wanted to do. Camille (spelling?) was super sweet and did a great job with my hair. At a few points, we decided to do something different. She was great about not necessarily having to stick to the plan. I'm sure I must have annoyed her, but if I did, she didn't let it show! I was not very impressed with my experience. I came in with box color red hair, which I know is difficult to color. However, I was not disappointed with the actual color. I was getting the ombre brown/blonde color treatment. First off, the ombre was blocky and not blended at all on my left side. They were very nice and had me come in to fix the blending. I should have known something was wrong when my stylist had to ask another employee the best way to blend. But I was giving her the benefit of the doubt. So, she "fixed" the block of color for free and sent me on my way. Well, once my hair wasn't curled anymore, I could tell that it STILL wasn't blended and was very noticeable.On top of that, now my hair has TERRIBLE split ends and is so damaged, it just breaks when I brush or comb it. I have never had this problem before now, even when I used to dye my hair blonde with box color. I don't know if it is from the color application, or because she used electric hair clippers to cut it. I'm not usually one to complain, but for almost $200, I really expected better. I'm going to another salon to get the damaged hair cut off. On the plus side, the staff is very friendly and respond to messages very quickly. UPDATE: They did call and offer a complimentary trim. That is very much appreciated. However, it will take more than a trim to remove the damaged hair that is continually breaking, no matter how much expensive deep conditioner I buy. I'm not one to skimp on hair products, so I'm using the good stuff. read more

WARNING!!!: HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND BAD ATTITUDES. NOT CONCERNED ABOUT MAKING CLIENTS HAPPY! OVER PRICED AND UNDER TALENTED. I was filling some time with a walk around the area this salon is located in and had been thinking of a haircut a few days prior, and I saw on the sign Walk In Welcome. Being a Paul Mitchell (c) salon I figured the quality of technique and customer service must be of a "higher" level, as opposed to that of standard salon who is not endorsed by a brand name/icon. That notion proved to be incorrect in all aspects! I was greeted in a timely manner, as there was only one other person in the cutting chairs at the time, and there appeared to be someone in the color/perm processing area, but this could have been staff. (?) I was connected with the stylist Megan, whom by appearance was the right stylist for me since I was seeking something more forward and ahead of the curve for my cut/style; and her personal style seemed to possibly fit that bill. This also proved to be incorrect. After a VERY BRIEF consultation (RED FLAG #1) she started in with the electric clippers (UBER RED FLAG #2) shaving all of my length off and not staying in the perimeters of the vision discussed. I had the length needed already, but she shaved it all off! I was in the chair for literally 15-20 minutes TOPS, I know it was only 15, maybe 16, and the only thing done to my head was it being shaved and was charged $35.00 for this "cut". Notice I used the term "cut" in quotes. And, being a generous tipper I tipped her well. I baulked at this when they told me how much it was, but at that point what do you do?? It wasn't until after I left and got home that I saw the extent of the damage to my vision of hair and felt overly cheated and severely annoyed, not only that this person considers her.self a "stylist", but the fact that this place could justify the cost of $35 for simply using electric clippers on my head. I had a very small amount of hair left on my head and was unusable for any styling, etc. My vision was destroyed in a matter of minutes. ='( ='( ='( I called the salon later that afternoon/evening to speak with Megan about my unhappiness, but she was gone for the day. So I returned to the salon the following morning, as I was told she would be in then. I went in and spoke with her about my unhappiness and was returned with at first what was a glimpse of attitude, which later turned to all out eye rolling and obvious disdain for my expression of disappointment. (RED FLAG #3 - You're Out!) What further turned this establishment into a bruised ego fest was the alleged manager and co-owner of the salon named Kim. This guy was even worse when it came to customer service. I guess that what happens when immature and less educated people resort to when confronted with criticism: Attitude/frustration/anger/denial, etc., etc. When asked if they could at least come to a compromised price for shavingmy head, which is what Megan had to do in order to make the bad cut liveable and to start over in my hair growth process, ARG!!; I was told, with more attitude from the manager that that is simply not their procedure or part of making an unhappy client happy. They didn't make me happy. They gave me a bad haircut in the first place and the only way of fixing it was to shave my entire head!!, and they refused to even refund a portion of my money. I didn't even ask for all of the $35.00 back, or the generous tip I provided. (If it were me I would have happily refunded the customers money given the experience they had, or at least offered to do something to make it "right" but instead I was offered the door.) I know people don't work for free, and business' do not operate on free, etc; but to not even take into consideration the disapproval of work and disappointment of work/services provided, not to mention that I now have no hair, speaks VOLUMES for the mentality of staff, management and ownership, speaks VOLUMES for the level of customer service (or lack there of), and definitely speaks VOLUMES for the attitude and quality level of the salon as a whole. Urine Poor all around (Replace Urine with the cuss word starting with a P!) I am filing a complain with the KY Better Business Bureau as well as with Paul Mitchell (c) HQ directly to see if there can be some sort of compromise in resolution OTHER than the attitude and lack of concern and care I received form this salon. read more

Camille and the Focus Salon stylists are gems of this earth! They are all so nice and fun and offer free wine and amazing customer service. After trying several stylists in town with lackluster results, I started seeing Camille a couple months ago and she has convinced me to do things to my hair (dying and bangs) that I never thought I would do. I've been off of Yelp for a while, but this place has forced me to come out of hibernation! Went here because of it's great location and positive Yelp reviews, asked for Megan, and had one of the best salon experiences of my life. What made this special was not the cut specifically, but the care that Megan took in figuring out an interesting issue with my hair. Apparently, there was a strand near the bottom of my head with a different color/texture than the rest...I had the whole staff trying to figure out the mystery (I don't color or use any products) and eventually someone was sent down to Walgreens to get baking soda and figure out if this would solve the issue, which it miraculously did. They were willing to spend a lot of time and effort and genuinely wanted to help, and my hair feels better now than it has in years. Oh yeah, and a glass of wine and overall great atmosphere didn't hurt :) Five stars! read more

Finally, a REAL salon. Being new to the Lu. area I needed a new stylist and a new salon. I scoured the greater Lu. area on both sides of the river and almost cried at the lack of options. When I called Focus the receptionist was exceptionally knowledgable and very helpful. He gave me a stylist recommendation, Lucas (unlike the other salons I called when they told me I could see 'any stylist'...I need someone with expertise with my type of hair). Lucas saw me at 11AM on the dot and had a lengthy consultation with me. He took his time cutting my hair, thinning it out and removing the weight like a true professional. His blow-out was one of the best I've ever gotten. He understood how to give dimension and volume with a round brush...not the easiest task. The salon itself is in a very pretty turn of the century building that could use some TLC. The place could use a good paint strip and re-paint as well as some redecorating. The furnishing and decor' definitely didn't match the age and gracefulness of the building. The pricing was spot on and I was very pleased over all. I will definitely return and I have no doubt I will have exceptional service again. read more

The whole staff was awesome! This was my first time at this salon. My stylists name was Tyler, she was AWESOME!! I wanted to richen my color, as to not look so "mousy", and create depth and texture. She knew exactly what my vision was and her expertise took it a whole other level. Oh and by the way did I mention...I cut off almost 10 inches (which they donated for me to "wigs for kids" through Pantene). I got a color and cut from Lucas who spent time helping me define what I was looking for and teaching me some style techniques as well as just some great conversations. He also took my appointment knowing that it would keep him a while after closing and that I wouldn't be a repeat customer (I would definitely be one if I was local!). Lindsay was the lucky stylist who helped me spruce up my look after a long week before I headed back home and she did an amazing job. The salon is extremely clean and everyone is very friendly. She discussed what we wanted to do with my hair a good 5-10 minutes before we even broke out the color book for my highlights and lowlights. She made some recommendations for my cut and we were off. While she styled it she even walked me through the steps and products. I could not be happier with the high level of service I received. It was over a year between appointments and he remembered not only me, but the shade and cut I got the year prior.
