We stayed here January 13,2020 after touring the Hearst Castle. The manager welcomed us with a warm smile & sent us to our room. The room was very clean, spacious & had a fireplace. So disappointed. We went for a couple retreat. This place looked quiet and relaxing. However, we were so wrong.. We arrived on Thursday night. Their location was great, their room was ok, their staffs were nice. BUT we woke up with HUGE construction noise next morning.. they started around 7:30am, right in front of the hotel!! Of course, they did not warn us about it before we booked. We asked to talk to a manager, he/she never responded. It's such a shame for hotel business.. many people come to your place for a relaxing experience. read more

The boyfriend and I finally had a weekend off together, and I have really been wanting to go to Cambria for a little mini vacation. Found this place on trip advisor; it ranked number 2 out of the hotels shown. The prices were very reasonable, it was about $140 for a Saturday night. Got to the Inn at about 1pm in the afternoon, check in time was 3pm. The receptionist at the front desk let us know that our room wasn't ready yet, but would probably be available in the next hour. She was very friendly, and kindly gave us a map and let us know about popular places to go around town, things to check out and recommended restaurants to check out while we wait for our room. She also offered us hot apple cider and warm cookies to take on the go if we just wanted to walk along the beach. She even personally walked us over the the bathroom, which was in another building. We decided to visit the Elephant seals while we waited, which was an amazing experience! I am so happy that the receptionist pointed that out! When we came back, they finalized the paperwork and handed us our room key. We had booked the garden view King room. The room was quaint, had kind of an odd design for the walls. The walls were yellowish with blue stars sponged on. It was really cold at first, I was slightly worried because they mentioned that the fire place and little space heater were the only sources of heat. Surprisingly, the room warmed up really fast. It was so cozy. Even though the fireplace was just a gas operated device, I still loved it! The flickering firelight was so romantic. The beach and boarded walkway along the coast are literally at your doorstep. We ate dinner at the Sea Chest which was another recommendation that the receptionist had given us. Another great idea! It was delicious! It is just a few buildings down, I didn't realized how close it was. I would recommend walking! After dinner, we went back to our cozy warm room, poured a couple glasses of wine then walked along the coast under the stars. In the morning, we ate the continental breakfast that was served in this cute little breakfast room. They had a Belgian waffle maker, eggs, sausage, bagels, english muffins, pastries, oatmeal, cereal, and nice tea selection. One of the best breakfast's I've eaten at a hotel. They even let us do a late check out so the boyfriend could finish watcher the inner game. Overall, friendly staff who know a lot about the area! They give out great recommendations! So our 32 hour roadtrip continued 40 miles up from San Luis Obispo to the lovely coastal hamlet of Cambria, a town my wife and I had visited several times before. On trips past we had stayed at the San Simeon Inns & Resort at the start of Moonstone Drive, but for 2015 we decided to get adventurous, which for us means looking at the internet to try to find a deal. For those unfamiliar with the area, Moonstone Drive rests some 20 feet above the bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. With it being a destination there are some 15-20 inns, beds and breakfasts, small motels, lodges, etc... everything but chain hotels, thank goodness. I looked at a number of options before settling on the Fogcatcher (hey, face it, the name itself is enticing), where we got a room with a petrified wood fireplace overlooking Highway 1 and the ocean beyond for about $150. We arrived at about 4PM and checked in. First thing we noticed upon entering our room was that the remote for the television was missing. To be fair, we've never actually been charged for anything beyond the ordinary, whether it's because we're conscientious or paranoid, or a little of each I don't know, but naturally we let the front desk know. Turns out they had just installed new TVs, and were a bit clumsy about providing the essentials. But the problem was rectified rather quickly. As I'd been doing all of the driving, I decided to take a dip by the pool. And it being the Central California Coast in February, the temperature outside was about 60 degrees (about 20 less than it had been in SLO), and the pool felt like it was about 80... in other words tolerable without necessarily being comfortable. The pool area was also inhabited by a yuppie couple from the San Jose area along with their two or three children, who seemed to be having a good time. After about ten minutes in the pool I warmed up in the hot tub, where everything worked the way it was supposed to. I'm happy to say that the fireplace worked the way it is supposed to, although we turned it too high, and found ourselves turning the thermostat off at about 1AM as I was sweating bullets. We could hear the breaking of the waves in the distance, contributing to the air of romance. The Fogcatcher had a free buffet breakfast, which consisted of the typical offerings - waffles, cereal, some fruit, eggs, and toast/bagels. While the room was full when we arrived, the waitstaff was very good about keeping the flow. About the only negative I could report was the tv itself - they advertised that they had four ESPN offerings along with four HBOs. Fair enough, but I was hoping to catch part of the Saturday Night Live 40 year special which was taking place that night. Not to be found - it seems that ESPN and HBO took up about a third of their offerings. Really they should have a more complete menu. read more

Hubby and I stopped into the FogCatcher Inn during a drive from San Diego to Portland/Seattle. With parts of the 1 closed, we decided that pressing onto Big Sur or Paso Robles would add more miles to an already long day and stopped in for the night. The front desk attendant was a bit flustered by the number of people in the lobby, but we waited happily all the same and in time, inquired about room availability. He gave us an ocean front room with two queens, as the view was better. I'm not sure why the rate was lowered, was it the middle of the week? Because the weather was cool? Full moon? I'm not sure. Regardless, the price dropped and then hubby's military ID brought it down even further. We lugged our stuff up the stairs and were greeted by the cutest, and considerably larger than expected, room. Little windows and comfy chairs faced the ocean and a working gas fireplace heated the place right up. We strolled over to the Moonstone Grill (see my other review if you are interested in where not to go for dinner) and took a stroll on the path near the hotel. In the morning, the Breakfast Room was open and served some pretty yummy food for the morning eaters. Coffee was "meh" but they had a great collection of teas and yogurts. Upon checkout, Linda was incredibly flustered and, I thought, very rude. She called for Karen, another clerk, to come up and check us out and we found her manners to be delightful. All in all, we had a roof over our head, a great view of the ocean and a romantic fireplace. I was a happy camper/traveler. read more

This is my favorite place to stay in Moonstone Beach. Whether i'm traveling with or without my Dogs. The front desk staff is always wonderful. Kimberly and Ronnie were great! We had an adorable, very comfortable King room with an ocean view. We loved it and didn't want to leave! Fog Catcher also includes a pretty good breakfast with your stay. Eggs, Sausage, Waffles, Oatmeal and so much more. I love the place, and will continue to stay there whenever I can! read more

Beautiful and Clean rooms!The room had a nice fireplace to keep us warm (was there in december) We checked in at night about 8 pm, the receptionist was very warm and welcoming. A little walk outside our room and the view of the beach was serene!! We could hear the sound of waves through the night! Breakfast is not fancy but had waffles and bread, so I wouldn't complain. Nice stop across from Moonstone Beach! My friends and I were road tripping down 1 from San Francisco to Anaheim and Cambria, CA made for a nice overnight stop on the way! We didn't have a reservation, but after a stop at Hearst Castle it was recommended to us to try the hotels and inns along Moonstone Beach. We did a little bit of comparison shopping and thought that Fog Catcher Inn seemed like a nice property, there pricing was competitive (and they honored an AAA discount!) and there was full breakfast included the following day. I was definitely sold after hearing about the breakfast spread! We were checked in by a young lady named Karissa, who was wonderful. Provided us some great information about the property as well as some suggestions for dinner that evening! The best part of check in was that we received some freshly baked cookies to enjoy too! The registration area also had a few shelves of snacks and beverages (including wine) and souvenirs available for purchase, games and books you could borrow, a computer to use free of charge and a complimentary beverage area with coffee, tea, hot chocolate, water as well as some apples. A small, but incredibly hospitable area! The room was very nice. You could tell the property had been there for a while, but that the proper energy was put into providing a well kept and comfortable accommodation. It was awesome to stay somewhere with a little more character than a traditional hotel room- vaulted ceilings, interesting paint treatment on the walls and an in-room fireplace were some of the most unique features! The room still had all the comforts of home as well- TV, small kitchenette area with a refrigerator and luxurious Philosophy toiletries were all available. The one complaint I would have would be that the wireless was quite spotty. We were given the code and explained how to log on, but it was almost impossible to get a connection! There also isn't any cellular service on the property, so it was almost like we were modern day "roughing it"! We were only there one night, so it wasn't a huge deal but could become frustrating after several days. The Inn also has a pool and hot tub. Although we did not use the pool, we did sit by a nice fire feature they had in the pool area for a while! Again, I'd also like to provide another "shout out" to Karissa! Since my group was in the area for a short period of time and wanted to make the most of our time in the area. We spent some time on the computer in the reception area as well as some time asking Karissa for her opinions. She was incredibly sweet and friendly. We really enjoyed chatting with her! Breakfast met my expectations and included a nice spread of hot and cold items- make your own waffles, eggs, bacon, breakfast potatoes, cereal and yogurt were the highlights! There was also fresh fruit and coffee, tea, hot chocolate and water available. There is a water shortage in the area, so the Inn also had signs apologizing for not serving the food on real dishes but instead on eco-friendly paperware- totally not a problem! The breakfast area as a whole seemed well attended to. Payment for our room night was not due until checkout which allowed us to split the bill evenly amongst the members of our group, which was appreciated as well. It was a short, but great stay at the Fog Catcher Inn! read more

We visited friends that stayed here last year. So, when we were doing our coastal road trip we thought it would be a nice place to stay. We paid a bit over $300 a night, which is pricy. However, considering the excellent location, you have to factor that into the equation. The place seems a bit older than surrounding properties and we did not research those places' pricing or amenities. We were here in early Spring and it was too cold to use the pol or spa. The fireplace made the room nice and cozy. The bed was first rate and very comfortable. The bathroom was small but had been outfitted with an excellent shower head and Moulton Brown toiletries. Nice towels were also included. The breakfast was better than most "included" breakfasts at hotels. The question is always "would you come back?" Yes, we would! read more

I previously was disappointed in the lack of working wi-fi at the Inn and wrote a review about it. Less than a day later I was contacted by Karen, their general manager, about my review and concerns about the lack of wi-fi and customer service. Karen was extremely nice and went way above and beyond by first offering us a complimentary night at the Inn on our next trip. When I told her we likely were not going to head down that way anytime soon she actually provided a FULL REFUND. I was blown away by this gesture. Further Karen took the time to provide details about why the wi-fi was not working on one side of the property (has to do to the underground lines going bad) and she was very sorry that our experience was not perfect. Honest, this was the best customer service I have ever received at a hotel and puts it back at the top of my list if I ever take the HWY 1 drive again. There are lots of choices, but knowing that the general manager cares this much about guest happiness means a lot to me. read more

I just spent a girls' weekend there with a dear friend and Patsy Cline (the furry version). I was very happy with the entire experience. The double room with a partial view was roomy, clean, & cozy. The staff was friendly and helpful. They offer free WiFi, which is particularly nice given the fact that cell reception is spotty at best. There are games, 24/7 coffee and tea in the reception room. They include a nice buffet-style breakfast with hot items (eggs, sausage links,waffles) and cold (cereal, yogurt, fruit, etc). My only complaint is the small packets of non-fat cream cheese for the bagels. Non-fat is the only option? Now, please. Cheese has fat. Without the fat, it's just something else entirely, something distinctly unpleasant. The location is absolutely fantastic. Across the street is the strikingly beautiful central coast, and a boardwalk that runs for 1.5 miles. Each morning, we woke for a walk to enjoy the stunning scenery. Over the 2 days we were there, we enjoyed the nearby spots, like Paso Robles for a long dinner (Thomas Hill Organics was wonderful), visited the elephant seals, took the dog to one of the few dog beaches (Cayucos is a must for the pups, even including an outdoor shower to give them a wash-up). There are many hotel options on this very street, all of which seem fairly indistinguishable from the others. I can't speak to other hotels here, but I can say that you, like us, will be very likely to enjoy your experience at the Fogcatcher. This is true especial if you are traveling with your canine companion. read more

Fantastic location, right across street from Moonstone. We have stayed here at least 6 times, even once with our dogs. (Dog Friendly location). But, due to Covid, no waffle breakfast, no turning over sheets in room. But that was to be expected. My only concern was for the price of the room, we stayed in 322 which is the room in front with the balcony, it seemed a little neglected. At over $250 a night a little paint and repair would sure help the experience. A few little things from them (bottle of wine, maybe a glass, cookie, a Danish, snacks, bottle of water for the coffee maker) would seem in order for the price and certainly help to overlook the feeling of the Fogcatcher getting run down. read more

What a great find! We were heading up to Cambria / San Simeon for a weekend getaway and wanted to bring our dog. We were greatful to find the Fogcatcher. Desk staff on the phone and via email prior to our arrival were wonderfully friendly and helpful, and just as wonderful in person once we arrived. The location is fantastic - right across the street from the boardwalk and beach, with a few restaurants just a short walk away. We were lucky to get an ocean-view, pet-friendly room. They provided dog bowls, a list of dog-friendly parks, shops, and restaurants in the area, and even a great big fluffy dog bed that our little girl loved! The room was very cozy and comfortable, with a propane fireplace and 2 big-screen TVs. Also very quiet and clean. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast in the breakfast room was good - hot eggs and sausages, a waffle station, cold cereals, pastries, coffees, teas, juices ... Had a wonderful stay and will absolutely return! read more

Really nice hotel, much better than we expected. Opted to save a $100 and get the "garden view" room rather than the ocean view. 30 foot walk to a beautiful beach really made this trip. The "Garden" is really a well landscaped parking lot but its not a busy lot so mostly we heard the ocean while we slept. Bed is comfortable, very clean with a nice big TV and HBO..love getting to watch True blood while on vacation. Coffee in the room is actually good, not that cheap bitter stuff you usually get. WiFi probably not as good as you have at home but still pretty decent. Cell service is bad so don't expect to be spending lots of time on the phone. Pool is warmer than most, the hot tub works well and was never busy while we were there. Best free hotel breakfast I've ever had. Hot meal with eggs, potatoes, waffles sausage as well as really good pastries and again great coffee. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. read more

Came here with a friend one week ago from today. This place made me understand what a "quaint little seaside town" means. I traveled to San Simeon to see the Hearst Castle and had no idea where to stay. I am so incredibly picky about my hotel rooms since I hate staying in one. I have never stayed at an Inn before and was nervous about it since an Inn is pretty much a glorified motel. So after looking up places and reviews for 3 whole days, I finally decided to take my chance on Fog Catcher Inn. Overall I am a "get it done myself" type of gal so I generally don't need a lot of help or much more than the bare minimum from the staff so long as I get what I'm paying for (and for one night's stay I paid quite a bit). I have to say that the staff proved to be very nice, very helpful, and I have absolutely no complaints about them. The room itself was very nice. It was small for a suite but the bedroom was separate from the main room and the bathroom was very nice. The bed was the most comfortable hotel/Inn bed I've ever slept in and I passed out pretty quickly which is not normal for me. The place was kept very clean. I had a fireplace, a microwave, mini fridge, and an espresso machine. I did have a view of the Ocean when I got there, yet there is a reason why the place is called "fog catcher" as the view of the Ocean disappeared in a haze of fog. There is a really cool artist who has a shop on the corner where he has a bunch of old wood designs. Check it out. The place was closed when we went but the pieces were huge and heavy so they are prominently displayed outside. There doesn't seem to be much to do at night in Cambria so we took our wine and settled down to experience the hot tub and fire pit. I believe the area closes around 10pm or so. Breakfast is complimentary and it's a full breakfast not just bagels and donuts. The only issue we had was cell reception. If you are in town for a first time visit, I have to say it's a wonderful place to see. Just keep note that many of the shops are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The elephant seals are also an additional nice place to check out. read more

Rip Off! Just Hang On to Your Wallet. The hotel is typical of the hotels there on Moonstone Beach Dr. The "breakfast" was ridiculous, crowded and all served up on Styrofoam. The room featured a faux fireplace / heater combo that failed early in the evening and made for an uncomfortably cold night. But the best part began when I cancelled the second night's stay - by phone - five days before arriving. What I learned later was that the inexperienced employee we dealt with over the phone should have referred us to Orbitz, through whom we made the reservation. Instead, he said, "Your second night is cancelled." Well, when we arrived, we discovered the cancellation had not been made. There was no one in authority behind the counter during our stay. I foolishly let it slide until I got home and could communicate with Orbitz and the manager of the Inn. Over the course of the next several weeks, with assistance of Orbitz reps, the FogCatcher Inn manager refused to negotiate with me regarding the second night's charge. He concocted lies and distortions, didn't call me back when he said he would, and generally behaved like I would just let it all slip away. Well, I did. Life is too short. This is my feeble attempt to right the wrong by warning others and perhaps influence their choice in places to stay. Again, there are a bunch of similar establishments within walking distance of this dive. read more

Holy Wow! We stayed here on a Saturday after touring the Hearst Castle; it was an amazing little hotel. Right across the road from the beach; we were able to sit right outside our room and watch the sunset. VERY clean rooms, large bathroom counter space, amazing. The fire place was great! When we checked in the girl at the desk asked if we needed any information on restaurants, tours, etc. She gave us a map of restaurants in the area and highlighted the ones in walking distance and told us which one had the best pizza. We told her we were really interested in seeing the Elephant Seals and she gave us an information packet. She was so nice. I'm a little sad, I didn't do my research before we left, and I didn't know this place was dog friendly so we left Rocco with my sister. When we were checking in the lobby had digital frame with photos of dogs that have stayed there it was SO cute. We'll have to go back and bring Rocco! BTW, the breakfast is amazing. read more

I read reviews for a number of hotels in Cambria before reserving a room at the Fogcatcher inn. I made the right decision. This is a very nice place to stay. The staff in the office was first rate, they should teach hospitality to other hotels. When we arrive the clerk Penelope, was on the telephone with a customer. She realized she would need to spend more time with them so she told them she would call them back and she helped us right away. She was extremely helpful and friendly. Helped us with suggestions for dinner etc. she could have easily been a tour guide on a bus tour. Our room was spacious and clean. The only problem was that it was cold and the only source of heat was a gas fireplace which took a long time to heat the room. We did find a small electric heater that took care of this very minor problem. The bed was very comfortable, the television worked well. The wifi also worked well. The included breakfast was better than most hotels that offer this service. There were two types of eggs, sausage, an oatmeal bar, waffle machines ,fruit and several types of very nice pastries. Yogurt and hard boiled eggs were also available. The ocean is directly across the street with a very nice boardwalk or take advantage of. Overall this is a wonderful place to stay and we will return. read more

Decided to drive up to Hearst Castle, I had looked at several sites but none had two nights available. We decided to take a risk and drive up with no reservations, after 32 years marriage . Got in to Cambria stopped at several hotels with no luck. Checked FogCatcher Inn, Terri the receptionist, had a room! She informed us they were booked for the weekend But if there was a cancellation she would make sure she saved it for us. She also gave us suggestions of where to visit and told us they included breakfast. She made us feel welcomed and that our business was important. First thing in the morning we went to see her and as soon as she saw us she was you are so Lucky we had a cancellation and I saved it for you! I told everyone that room is for you. She was awesome! Our daughter called in to surprise us with a bottle of wine for our room and she said the staff was so patient and helpful even with her screaming child on the other end. I can't wait to go back. I will call and speak directly with Terri. My apologies Terri it took me awhile to figure this Yelp thing. PS The staff of this establishment was very nice. Almost forgot The rooms were clean and beds super comfortable loved the fact we had a chimney in our room. read more

This is the 2nd Inn I've stayed in Cambria...the other is Sea Otter Inn. They are very similar and I'd guess that all the Inns along Moonstone Beach aren't that much different. Due to it's proximity to the beach, there are many regulations limiting the size of each Inn. Keep in mind there aren't any luxury hotels in this area. The complimentary breakfast includes sausages and fresh waffles. The staff is very prompt in maintaining the eating area. It's directly across from the beach. You merely have to cross a street to get to the ocean. You're so close you can hear the waves from your room. Look out your window and you'll see the cypress tress lining the coast. The rooms are okay. It comes w/ a mini fridge which we found to be useful. This is a small town so there aren't too many late-night dinner options. This property is pet-friendly. read more

We've been to Cambria three times and we've always stayed at Fog Catcher Inn. Pros: - Clean Rooms - Really friendly service - Breakfast is DELICIOUS - It's right across from the ocean - Free wi-fi that doesn't suck Cons: - The fireplace can be hit or miss. Sometimes, they work when you adjust the thermostat and other times, you end up freezing in the room. Luckily, there are little ceramic heaters stowed away in the closet that you can take out and install to use. This is the only reason for the one less star. - Location is nice, but you have no cell reception and the closest places to eat are in Cambria. Normally, that wouldn't be bad, but the food isn't something people visit Cambria for. Obviously, this isn't Fog Catcher Inn's fault, so please note this as an FYI for those looking to need cell reception or to dine on some really good food. read more

I was really looking forward to visiting this place on our roadtrip due to its extremely high Yelp rating. We were looking forward to a romantic evening in a beautiful BnB, with outstanding service on a beautiful beach. The beach is beautiful. It is absolutely worth visiting, but Fog Catcher was a different story. Yes, the fireplace is nice, but that's about it for the high marks at this hotel. Nothing ruines my stay like a bad shower, and the shower here were awful - the temperature changed from normal to cold to scolding in seconds without any adjustment. It must have been linked to the plumbing in a different room. The towels were super hard and scratchy. I was not expecting the Ritz but these were beyond bad. We were supposed to have a garden view but our garden was the parking lot on one side and a broken shed on another. The service was at best mediocre. We didn't know that everything in the town of Cambria closed at 5 pm and even though we arrived at 4 pm, the hotel clerk did not bother mentioning it. By the time we arrived in downtown everything but a few diners were closed down. The breakfast was ok but nothing to write home about. It was really impersonal, just a dining room. Serve yourself. If this place charged under $100/night it would have been par for the course, but at $159 (from Hotels.com if you have to) we expected a nicer stay. Btw, there is about 20 of these hotels located side-by-side, and at least one of them was running a $79/night deal for the day we were there. If you come during the week, and are price conscious you may just want to drive up and see who gives you the best deal. read more

We absolutely love Cambria and especially the FogCatcher Inn, along with its sister property, the Fireside Inn, it is one of our top choices for a weekend getaway. In fact we love all the Pacifica Hotels, they do a great job with all their properties. We love the clean, comfortable places at a good value. The FogCatcher has a great location and it has all the things that are important to me, a pool heated year round (I swim everyday), free high speed Internet (I hate to pay $300 for a room and then they want $15 a day for Internet?), clean, well maintained and great, friendly staff. All the rooms have fireplaces and we LOVE a fire in the evening (we love Cambria in the winter when it is quiet) and there is nothing like a nice red wine and fire. They also offer a more complete breakfast than their sister property, but we still tend to go out because there are so many good, unique places to eat in the Central Coast. read more

Two nights-Garden View (where's the garden) $500 bucks. Okay, it's Cambria and the ocean's right across the street. Breakfast's included in breakfast room. Not bad. Hard to screw up eggs, potatoes, and sausages. Make your own waffle machine produced not-bad little waffles. Good coffee, okay tea selection. Room gets crowded, a few tables outside can accommodate the overflow. Was lucky this morning, sky was blue, sun was out and it was in the 60s. Otherwise, outside breakfast dining might not seem too attractive. Wi-Fi was good, though Kindle would not access the mandatory log-in screen because of expire certificate. and since the Inn is in a no-cell-service zone, couldn't use my cell phone as a wi-fi source. Oh well, the missus didn't need to read anywho. Clean rooms, comfortable beds. Parking a bit of a problem when you come in late. read more

I loved staying here. We were only there for one night, and we rented an ocean front room which was worth every penny. It was a foggy weekend, so there wasn't much of a view per se. However, we opened our windows in the evening, lit the fireplace to warm the room and just enjoyed listening to the sound of the crashing waves. It almost made it even better that it was foggy outside b/c it lent a mystique to the place. I stayed up forever reading a book b/c I just didn't want the night to end; I was enjoying the atmosphere so much. There was a big screen TV in the room (maybe 40-50"), but we didn't take advantage of that b/c I preferred to read a book and listen to the waves outside my window and my husband crashed early. The staff were very accommodating: they recommended places to eat upon our arrival (we arrived near dinner time) and offered to make reservations for us if we wanted. In the morning there was a full hot breakfast which was fantastic. There was a small incident b/c breakfast is served from 8-10am and they mean it. We arrived at 10:00 am and the lady in charge gave us a dirty look upon arrival, she had already pulled the coffee and refused to make more (she said she was out, but that seems odd to me for a hotel). She even gave us a hard time when we asked her for water! However, the manager in charge that morning (once it was brought to her attention) went above an beyond to make things right and gave us each an additional bottle of water, and some coffee which they had prepared at the front desk. She was very nice and assured us that it would be addressed - which I'm sure it was. She seemed very concerned about making sure we felt she had made proper ammends (which we did), and seemed just as bothered as we were that for over $300 a night we were given such a hard time for arriving at the latter end of the breakfast hour. Nonetheless, my recommendation is that you learn from our mistake and don't push it. My wife and I paid $150 and reserved online. The room was better than expected and the hotel staff was very nice. The setting couldn't be better, just walk across the street to beautiful Moonstone beach. There is also a 3 mile pathway for an easy stroll up and down the bluffs overlooking the ocean. It's quite a walk from the beach to town although there is a free shuttle that operates every few hours. Overall, highly recommended. Comments about the breakfast room are correct, nothing to hit home about, but they have a great selection included with the cost of the room. read more

I read the first review on for the FogCatcher Inn and would highly recommend the reviewer to try it again...My husband and I have been going to Cambria for the last 6 years for our anniversary/birthday weekend (my birthday, our anniversary) which just happens to coincide with the Paso Robles Zinfandel festival. We have always stayed at the FogCatcher. The staff is always friendly and pleasant. Once we picked up a nail in our tire and discovered a flat tire on our car..the office immediately found us a tow truck and we were off to dinner in half an hour. The rooms are always clean and fresh..very charming atmosphere..with the beach right across the street, we don't bother with an oceanfront room, the garden view is perfect and the breakfast room is just a short walk away. We've thought about trying some of the other inns which are close by, but why bother when we're so happy here? read more

The front desk was friendly. They upgraded our rooms to a nice room with an ocean view and provided a complimentary champagne for our honeymoon. Philosophy bath products. These were all perks. Yes, the rooms are a little dated (like a motel) with torn window screens, but it is across the street from the beach, which might be the reason for the price (~$190/night). Complimentary breakfast, which was better than a usual continental breakfast. All in all, it was a great experience and we would come back. read more

Came here for the Labor Day week and our experience was great. We had an issue with our room at check in and the from desk person Debbie upgraded us to a bigger room. The room was great. Super comfortable beds, huge bathroom, Hd tv and a fire place. The hotel is very close to Hearst castle and downtown Cambria. The breakfast was phenomenal. One of the best breakfasts I had had in a hotel. There is no air conditioning on the rooms but the front desk was able to provide us with a fan that made all the difference. My boyfriend and I stopped here for the night on our drive back to SF from LA. The location is AWESOME, directly across the road from the beach. They have an outdoor pool that is heated to 82*, and a hot tub that was extremely relaxing after a long day of driving and sight-seeing. We had pretty much just rolled into town on a Sunday night and were lucky enough to get the LAST room they had, which was a King that was tucked way in the back. We didn't care though, we were just happy to not be driving. Short drive to Cambria proper for dinner at a really good restaurant called Robin's (reviewing them next), and then made it back for a short stroll on the beach and then a dip in the pool. Technically, the pool and hottub close at 10pm, but I'm not sure how strictly that is enforced. While we were in the hot tub, we were joined by two other couples. The only detraction from the experience was that one couple brought their two children who were under the age of six and I kinda felt that it would have been more relaxing if I didn't have a four-year-old splashing me in the face every 20 seconds. The room was nice, we had a decent king sized bed. There was a gas fireplace that worked the night we got there, but when I tried to get it working the next morning, no go. This is the main heating unit for the room. Free breakfast in the "Breakfast Room" was also nice. There was a good variety of standards along with being able to make your own Belgian waffles. The coffee was "meh" but I'm a coffee snob. It's also a good chance for conversation with others you might not have otherwise met. We actually ran into the honeymooning couple we met the night before. Or, you can just grab your stuff and head back to your room like we did. The internet is really shoddy, and there is ZERO cell reception, so don't plan on doing much with technology when you are here. Besides, it's kinda refreshing NOT having those things for a little while. I think we would definitely stay here again. read more

The Fog Catcher is our home away from home. We are so thankful The Blue Dolphin Inn renovated a few years ago, raised their rates and pretty much made it impossible for families with kids and dogs to stay here. Stayed here 20 yrs later for our anniversary and we still enjoyed our stay. Room were clean and upgraded.

The Fog Catcher Inn is absolutely beautiful and charming! The beach is right across the street and is very stunning and private. The customer service was outstanding (they give out free fresh baked cookies and free doggie treats for your pooch). Oh yeah- they accept pets! Our room was very clean and cozy. Comes with an electric fire place which acts as a heater. The free breakfast was more than satisfying. Loved the waffles! Upon check out we received a gift card for $50 off our next stay. I have not experienced such cordial and accommodating service in a long time. From the moment I made my phone reservation to the time I checked out, the staff at the FogCatcher was incredibly friendly and helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and especially enjoyed the attention to detail (homemade cookie and cider at the time of check-in) made by the management and one of the best complementary breakfasts I have had in an independent hotel. Beautiful views of the coast and many areas to lounge around the pool and front of the inn. I will definitely be coming back. read more

A few things I want in a room to get a 5 star review. Is it clean? Everything was spotless except the carpet could use a steam clean more often. Is it quiet? This place is amazingly quiet. Is the room and bed comfortable? The beds are great and the room is quite nice also with a table and chairs, fireplace, refrigerator and microwave, my only gripe is probably more places to hang coats. Is the Breakfast good enough to get your day going? I must say I totally enjoyed breakfast although changing up the menu might help people who stay longer than three days might help. Is my dog invited? Yep they have dog rooms ! Do you feel welcomed even after you check in? Customer service was outstanding though out our stay. read more

This hotel is very covid-unfriendly!! Do not book a room until they can comply with what they advertise! We stayed 4 nights in a double queen room with no maid service not a trash pick up, you have to go fetch a clean towel if you need one. $375.00 per night without the complimentary breakfast and without maid service, I thinks not!!!!!! read more
