Folk Art. Wow! This place is a winner on all fronts. I mean Decatur has gems on top of gems when it comes to eclectic and varied dining. I have long believed that the dining landscape in Decatur had far exceeded the offerings in Atlanta or Athens and this was before I had discovered Folk Art. Was in town staying at the Hampton Inn and I needed lunch. A quick Google search introduced me to FA. I called and Grace picked up the phone. I would have ordered from here based on her voice and personality alone. She was so upbeat and explained a few things to me when I had questions. I ordered the fried green tomatoes, the cucumber and avocado salad, the collards with bacon and the cheesesteak. I walked the three minutes from my hotel to pick up the order, The place was rather empty but I arrived to pick up my order towards the end of closing time. I went to the bar to pick up my order and i will say, the bag was packed quite securely. Everyone was practicing social distancing in the building so shout out from Dr. Fauci, the CDC, and the NIH. I was thanked for my service and I was on my way back to my hotel. When I arrived in my room and opened my containers everything that was supposed to be hot was still hot and the  packaging was very stable. I started with the avocado salad. This was a nice combination and I am surprised I have never put them together before. The avocados were creamy and the cucumbers were chilled and had a nice crunch. I believe there were some typr of dressing on the salad. I then dived into the collards. What a creative dish. The collards were not cooked down hard like soul food hard. They were instead sauteed and tossed in some salty and delicious bacon that was quite thick. I am imagining this bit of pork could be the lone seasoning for the collards. I just wish the sides were bigger but then again they would not be called sides if they were larger. The star attraction of my meal was the cheesesteak. I had it without the cheese and with extra mayo. So i must add, I have had virtually every cheesesteak of note in Phildalphia. It is an iconic dish that is the face of Philadelphia food landscape, But on this day, I must say, I had a cheesesteak that could hold its own with the best of them. It had the tastiest meat of any cheesesteak I have ever had. The bread cannot hold a candle to a Sarcone's, but the meat on this sandwich really stood out. Overall, Folk Art was a winner. I hope Covid ends soon so I can dine in and enjoy the buzz of Ponce and downtown Decatur. read more

Oh my my. I have found the Folk Art Decatur location iffy. Inconsistent. When they're busy (such as lunch), your plate may look a mess. Thrown together. Tonight at dinner, plate delivered fine. Overall, a pretty presentation doesn't matter to them. I have always found the service to be awesome and friendly. That will keep me coming back for sure. I have never had a decent alcoholic cocktail here. TONS of mixer to booze ratio. Stick with beer. This is a great convenient location in Decatur. I hope they step up their game to stay awhile. Have specials in addition to the standard menu, have a better plate presentation and need a mixologist. read more

We came on Mother's Day after the rush (thank goodness) Employees were busy bees the entire time we were there cleaning and restocking everything for the next shift. We sat at the bar. Tanny was our server and despite having tables all over the restaurant she was super attentive and positive the entire time. I'm docking one star due to prices seemingly a little excessive but they passed the vibe check overall. Food good. Service good. Decor adorable. One word: "Yummmmm"! We came here on a super rainy Saturday before getting on the road. Had about an hour wait, but the wait is always worth it. Everyone was spaced out, hand sanitizer was everywhere and the staff had on their masks. We ordered the patty melt with fruit and the shrimp po' boy with cucumber avocado salad. The patty melt was really juicy. It was only right to ask for extra sauce and drown it in it. Fruit was fresh, sweet and the perfect amount. The Shrimp Po' Boy was the star of our table. My God! So simple and so delicious. The bread, the shrimp, the fried pickles, the sandwich as a whole was just phenomenal. The cucumber avocado salad was decent. I felt like it was missing something, but that may be because I ate it after the sandwich. Our waitress was amazing from start to finish. She was attentive and even delivered an order of grit fritters for us to try while we waited on our meal. I'm not a fan of grits, but this grit fritter with peach jelly had great flavor and texture. I went to the Decatur location this morning and the service was terrible! The guy that I saw initially when I walked in let me just stand there and stand there. He acted as if he didn't even see me, I had to go across the street to CVS so I left. When I came back, I noticed then a young lady server was there, so I walked to the other end of the bar and the same guy then wanted to try to greet me and ask if he could help. I said "I'm trying to place a to go order" and he pointed to the QR code which I don't have tech for that so I'm like can I get a menu. He pulled one out, but it was like there was an attitude about it. The whole time, the female server isn't really saying anything, I'm just like do y'all not want to serve me? The female finally ended up taking my order after she saw me looking around because I'm thinking the guy would eventually take it. Then the food ended up being just as terrible, the tomato was fried too hard and the coffee was nasty. I'm not sure if I would ever go back at breakfast time. I've been at lunch and that was better. I hope Management looks at this review and takes time to speak to their employees about customer service. read more

Like many of the patrons of Folk Art, we came for brunch, and it was a wonderful experience. Although busy, the restaurant ensured that we were well-taken care of with attentive and personalized service. Others have mentioned more difficult experiences during rush times, but in my personal experience Folk Art has managed to work out a good system for dealing with such issues. The drinks were excellent and the food was very good, well-prepared and fairly priced. The fare offered is fairly typical for a modern restaurant emphasizing Southern cuisine, although there are some unusual additions thrown in here and there. Folk Art offers a very causal atmosphere and seating is available at tables or booths and even at the counter. I would recommend Folk Art as an excellent dining option for those in Decatur. In particular, the discount on parking is a great deal and an invaluable service for anyone dining in Decatur. read more

The food here is excellent. The servers are wonderful. The prices are good and not expensive. The lunch rush is long so be prepared for that but the food is definitely worth it. I had both breakfast and lunch. Try the Sweet Potato Pancakes, they are simply yummy! The omelet is great too with sausage, cheese, green pepper and onion. The hash browns are just okay. Also they have the grilled cheese sandwich with Brie and I tell them to put ham inside too, your taste buds will thank you as you blast off into deliciousness! I almost don't want to post a raving review as I want this place to be "our secret!". We come here every time we visit Atlanta. Our hotel is right up the street! The breakfast is unbelievable. This was a pick up order and the rating reflects the fact that breakfast and travel are not a great fit. Breakfast food needs to be served hot and travel impacts quality. I ordered an omelette and it had good flavor but it was lukewarm. So was toast although peach jam was very good. Grits were the best item. Waffle with chicken was impacted by waffle being warm; chicken was good. Coffee was a light blend and I like a dark roast. Beware! Never order via delivery, you'll never get your order. I Ordered through Grubhub, but the restaurant doesn't state that the driver has to come into the restaurant and place your order again , then wait for the order to be prepared. The driver also has to pay for parking at this location, which is very inconvenient. When I called the restaurant, I was told they do not have a direct connection with Grubhub nor Uber eats. And in order for them to immediately get your order, you have to order through their website, then pick it up. What's the purpose of having delivery? So, this was my first time at this location. I've been to the other one some time ago. I had the Souther Comfort (shrimp and grits) and my partner had an omelet. OMG the southern comfort was amazing. Food and service both a major letdown, given how delicious the menu appears. We came for dinner on a slow Friday. I think our server was just sent out onto the floor with the assumption that he's been to a restaurant and thus knew how to wait tables. Here are some things that maybe someone needs to be trained in order to know: Don't put the drink menu on the table and one second later ask what we want to drink. When we say we need a minute to decide, don't bring water and then say "do you want anything other than water?" It's a table full of adults on a Friday night, not lunch. Pretty sure the boss would rather you were trying to sell drinks. DO bring small plates with the appetizers (whether you're a server or a food runner -- why is this such an issue at so many restaurants?). If someone doesn't want a box and says it was because their salad was inedibly salty, don't [literally] say "that's not my fault." DO ask if you need to split the check before you just dump it on the table and walk away. Oh, and I'll bet the boss would appreciate it if before you offered to split the check you asked if anyone wanted dessert or one more round or drinks. As far as the food - my companions were slightly more impressed than I was. Grits fritters were a tiny portion and didn't have a lot of flavor. "Pigs in blankets" were like crispy hot dog egg rolls, which was interesting but unexpected. My husband had the fried chicken breast, which was tasty but got very boring with no sauce. Friend had the chicken pot pie, which did not look the least bit appetizing. Friend across the table had fries that weren't even tempting. Meanwhile I ordered the "local garden greens" salad with chicken - the menu made it sound like a tasty salad with all sorts of ingredients, but it was pretty much underdressed mixed greens with chicken that was way too salty to eat. Super cute place to eat. Halloween decorations make it fun and inviting. I would've loved to have given this place 5 stars, but I just can't. Our server was kind and professional. He was a little slow as we waited awhile to order and our check. However, his kindness made up for the wait. My omelette came out completely wrong at first, but was remade quickly and tasted amazing. Our son ordered French toast and said it was really good. Our daughter ordered a waffle and was very disappointed. It reminded us of a Eggo waffle. It was paper thin and overwhelmingly full of cinnamon. To the point that she couldn't even eat it. My husband ended up with the chicken and waffles. The chicken was excellent, tender and juicy. This was our first time to eat here since we moved to Decatur and it was a very nice experience. We ate at one of the tables outside and Josh was our server. Ate breakfast here recently and it was reasonably good. No glaring issues but a few things not to our liking: 1) We were seated at a very small, round table. The table was less than 24" diameter. Our glasses of water, one iced tea and two plates of food were hanging off the edge of the table. 2) The hashbrowns are shredded style, that's okay, but they were cooked on the grill with some of that butter substitute, you know - that liquid, yellowey, greasy stuff, and it leaves an odd taste in your mouth. 3) The pork sausage and the turkey sausage were okay but clearly not freshly made (ground) on the premises like the sausage available at another breakfast establishment located diagonally across the intersection. 4) Both of us had toast and there was a modest upcharge for one of their three homemade jams. We tried the peach jam. It was very good but an upcharge? The unsweet iced tea was very good. Lots of flavor. Definitely fresh brewed. Would I go back again? Yes, it wasn't bad.
