So this is officially my first time eating at this restaurant. I visited years ago when I had my orange Dodge Challenger and I tried the parking garage across the street the app didn't work with my phone then. Fast forward to last Saturday I tried again the parking garage across the street it didn't work with my new phone so then I tried parking app.com around the corner on the sidewalk no luck I went home. I found out today from my waiter that I can park at their parking garage that says public parking right past the building with the blue arrow $5.00 for 2 hours! This time I actually ubered to the restaurant you learn something new every day. I saw pics online before I visited and I had to go with the chicken and waffle known as fowl play this hit the spot delicious words can't describe until you taste it for yourself! MUST VISIT BRUNCH SPOT - Folk Art has always been one of my go-to brunch spots in Atlanta - I was excited to see them open a second location in Decatur (slightly closer to me than their first location). When we arrived, we had the pup in tow, but there was some limited outdoor seating. It was a bit chilly outside but we had prepared for the elements and they did have some heaters. I'm an iced coffee girl but it was way too cold while sitting outside - so two hot coffees were necessary. We started with sweet potato beignets because those were my favorites from the original location. They weren't as pretty as the ones I remembered but still tasted delicious. We went with the Short Rib & Grits and the Folk Southern Fried and found both dishes to be delicious, albeit a bit on the heavy side of the brunch spectrum. The outdoor seating is a bit sparse so definitely don't recommend it unless you're ok with braving the elements! We also had some extremely slow service due partially to the power outage that occurred during the meal, as well as the server having to run out from the busy restaurant inside. But I suppose that's weekend brunch for ya! read more

I have to admit that I am unfamiliar with the area, but i have a family member in the hospital aprx 14 minutes away. The food was great. I got the folk southern fried, which consists of a fried chicken breast on top of a biscuit, with 2 eggs and covered with sausage gravy! The food was delicious! So flavorful. The gravy was an excellent consistency. I must say that even though the place was not busy, I wasn't greeted properly. I was asked if I was picking up, which struck me as odd until I observed the next poc after me was a grub hub delivery driver. The order was to go, for me alone. The real issue was the auto gratuity of 15% wasn't mentioned beforehand. On top of that they ask for a add on tip of 2% to7%. I stumbled because the percentages were wrong but I figured I would correct that with cash. Of course they don't print the receipt first and then take payments because of course then you would be informed. Also be aware there is also a to go fee! I don't like feeling like im being taken advantage of. Unfortunately with the app, it doesn't tell you that free parking is non existent. I really enjoyed my time here! A group of four of us came here for brunch on a Saturday. There are two locations and this was the one in Decatur. We chose it because it has a little bit more space and we are very happy with our decision. Please don't come here. If you have any issues waiting, even though the weight wasn't long, it is good to note that they do not take reservations, so just be prepared to wait for 20 minutes or so for a table to clear up, we ordered a bunch of things but I got the breakfast burger which is a double patty with cheese and hashbrowns and eggs. There is no bacon even though it is advertised on the menu with bacon you do have to add that. It was a pretty solid burger in my opinion, and I'm excited to come back here and try something else on the menu! If you live in Decatur, you'll know that it is a nightmare where parking is concerned. After a long absence, I have decided to give Decatur a second chance and visit a restaurant that isn't on a lot with private parking. Sunday morning, 9.30am was the magical hour to visit Folk Art. 1. Street parking is free on Sunday. Bonus! 2. Folk Art was still relatively empty, it was at half capacity. Was shown to a table immediately. I remember having to wait an hour for one last time we went to a Folk Art. 3. Service was fast. Servers were their usual happy chirpy efficient self before the madness began. So there you have it, the formula. The restaurant had a pleasant, bright, fresh decor. Felt like I was in a prairie lol. Because the menu look extensive and every item was tempting, sounded like I could eat everything and they would all taste good. We had to actively decide to get and what we could put off for the next visit. Our server came to visit us 3 times before we could tell her what we finally wanted. We got an order of pancakes. We didn't specify what kind of pancake, except there were 3 on a plate. When the pancakes came, it was a darker color than the usual. Biting into it, we soon realized they were sweet potato. I've had similar pancakes before at other restaurants and didn't like the consistency but THIS was da bomb! I love the cinnamon flavor that lingered, the fragrance was comforting. Perfect for a cool morning. You have to order this. I had the shrimp & grits. Generous number of shrimps. The grits were smooth, gravy was rich, not salty which I love. I just wished there were less onions and no corn kernels. Of course the gravy came with those and the restaurants can't do what I want. Now that I know what to expect, I will eat around it. The serving size was enough for 2 meals. The steak & eggs my breakfast buddy ordered was also generous. Usually the steak is less than a centimeter thick and dry. This piece of steak was almost half an inch, and done perfectly moist. I shall order that on my next visit. read more

I am writing this review after my second time eating at Folk Art. The first time was sometime in 2021, and this last time was a weekend ago. I ordered different things because I like to try new items on menus. My first time, I got an omelette and a coffee drink. This time, I got their version of a lox sandwich/bagel (tomato soup side) and just had water. I was very impressed by the omelette, but it was a pretty heavy/large portion meal. I was disappointed with the lox bagel. The ingredients basically all fell apart and there was no mixing of flavors which is what I like in a lox bagel. I felt the tomato soup was better than this entree! Other than that, I love the restaurant's atmosphere and the fact you can take a walk in Downtown Decatur easily. Everything was simply AMAZING! From the moment I called to make a reservation, I knew we were in good hands. I spoke with Keisha, and she was truly an angel. She helped me secure our reservation, and once we arrived, she continued to take such wonderful care of us. I had cousins visiting from Houston, Texas, and she welcomed us with warmth and hospitality. It was our very first visit, and everyone greeted us with a smile--even before we were seated. Once we sat down, Janay immediately took our orders. She was kind, professional, and attentive. While waiting on our food, we decided to try the Blueberry Biscuit Bits, and they were absolutely delicious! When our meals arrived, everything tasted amazing. The portions were so generous that we all left with doggie bags. I can't wait to tell all my family and friends about our outstanding experience at The Buttermilk Biscuit Restaurant. Folk Art was pretty delicious! I have no complaints about my crab cake benedict with sauteed spinach, poached egg, and house hollandaise. I subbed for a biscuit because I do not like English muffins. The hashed browns (Waffle style) were fresh and HOT. Yum! My friend had a traditional American breakfast of waffles, bacon, and eggs, which she enjoyed. We had two cocktails: Champagne Punch (Vodka, pineapple juice, orange juice topped w/ champagne, and strawberry garnish) and the Folk Art '75 (Four peel gin, passion fruit liqueur, fresh lemon, topped with bubbly). Absolutely LOVED this place! I came here with a friend around noon on a Saturday and there was a bit of a wait, but it wasn't too bad. The weather was lovely, so we didn't mind waiting outside. We were finally seated at the bar, which was perfect since I love sitting at the bar. It was so bright and airy inside and it was the perfect place for Saturday brunch. My friend ordered a mimosa while I had a virgin blackberry margarita which was delish. I ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer and the shrimp po boy for my meal with the avocado and cucumber salad. Everything was supreme. My only slight complaint was there was a little too much blue cheese on the tomatoes, but it's all good. Our bartender was also amazing; awesome service! What a gem to find on a random weekend in Atlanta! After spotting Folk Art in Decatur, with a crowd out front, we decided to see if the wait was worth the hype. And it was! Plus, street parking around the corner was free. We were open to first-available, which included inside at a table or at the bar, or at a table outside. We waited about 20 minutes around 11:30am on a chilly Saturday in early November for a table, which was much shorter than the estimated wait. We were seated outside along the sidewalk, but the inside décor was super cute, and I kinda regret not waiting a bit longer (now that I'm not starving). Their menu is solely online, via QR code, but we're accustomed to that now. Our server was Evan and he was fantastic. By the time we ordered, I'd realized the heater next to our table wasn't on, so I asked Evan about it and he literally changed out the propane tank to get it going for me. This Florida girl appreciated that! Y'all, the food!!! First of all, we had a tough time deciding because everything sounded delicious. I finally chose the Fowl Play for my meal. This entrée featured fried chicken on a giant sweet potato & buttermilk waffle with whiskey-peach compote. #ProTip: ask for the compote on the side. Syrupy & chunky, this compote was incredible, and I'm not especially a peach or whiskey fan. Both pieces of chicken were crispy & juicy, and perfectly fried. And the fluffy waffle was so decadent that I didn't realize sweet potatoes were in the batter until writing this review. I added a side of collard greens and my taste buds are still thanking me. The greens had sweet notes with zero heat. And bacon. It was almost as if Folk Art asked me how I would like my collard greens... and this was exactly it. Hubs chose "corn grits" as a separate side, mainly because he knows I want grits. But these grits actually had cooked corn kernels mixed in them! How have I never found these before now?! Thick & chunky, but NOT dry, these grits had CORN! Plus the grits had a bit of sweetness which you know I loved. Hubs' hash browns were perfect, in spite of the onions. He wanted hash browns but so many places can't get them right that I've given up on ordering them myself. These were fantastic, and I just ate around the onions (no allergy; just a strong dislike). I also ordered an Espresso Martini and it was outrageously flavorful. So rich, I sipped on it throughout our meal. Evan kept our water glasses full so I was never thirsty. As I mentioned previously, inside is very cute. Vintage style throughout, plus a diner-like bar, though the dining room itself is not large. I loved the tile floors & vaulted ceilings, and I certainly want to dine here again when we're in the Atlanta area. read more

I recently visited Folk Art with my family for brunch with my family. I had never been before, so I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and try something savory and a little heartier than I'd usually eat. So this southern fried chicken sandwich screamed at me. It was absolutely delicious. The cook perfectly cooked the chicken breast, and the gravy was super flavorful, bringing the entire dish together. It was a little busy, but we did go during brunch hours on a Sunday, and we still thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The only complaints I remembered hearing were about how strong the coffee was, and my family wasn't a fan of the grits. Either way, I enjoyed my meal and would recommend Folk Art for a nice brunch date or gathering with friends. read more

My BF and I came here for lunch and I have to say I was impressed! First off: the interior/vibes. Whoever designed the interior obviously has a keen attention to detail, because the entire place is gorgeous. Between the bar, the intricate booths and tables, and the wall art it gives off great energy. My only qualm in the design department is that the decor was very Atlanta-centric. It felt like they just transferred everything from their original location in Inman Park to Decatur without considering that Decatur is its own city with its own story to tell. That's more nitpicky though; I didn't subtract a star for it. Regarding food, I got the breakfast burrito while my boyfriend got the French Toast with s'mores add on. Both were presented beautifully and tasted good, although my boyfriend thought that the s'mores french toast was too sweet (a mute point, really, considering it is indeed s'mores french toast). Our side of mac and cheese wasn't the best, so in hindsight we should have tried the mac and cheese appetizer. The reason I'm giving three stars instead of five is mainly due to the waiters and management. The fun interior and trendy food was kind of undermined by a wait staff that seemed (in general) amateurish. Our waiter struggled to explain the dishes when my bf and I asked about them, and on multiple occasions I spotted FOH staff meandering around and chatting at length with coworkers. Not to say that front of house can't relax (as a server I know I certainly did sometimes) but it was odd that it was happening in front of all the patrons. There was also a family in front and next to us who had kids playing on the iPads at almost full volume. The tables around them, ourselves included, took it in stride but it was irksome. There were a couple things that caught my eye here so I went with my gut feeling and I sure was right. I had the giant breakfast burrito with veggie sausage along with the eggs Benedict and the Folk Southern Fried. Everything was good until the last bite. For parking you have to pay in their parking structure. If I remember correctly it's $5 for two hours. They don't validate parking either in the structure. Being in an interracial marriage I have seen this pattern before so I don't want to draw any conclusions, but this seemed very intentional. The Benedict consisted of grilled tomatoes, sautéed spinach, pouched egg, and their house hollandaise sauce. It was pretty simple and everything blended ended well. It was defiantly a lot better with added hot sauce. Egg was cooked well. It was a bit pricey for just a sandehich and no sides. Service was a bit slow, and the staff were not attentive.
