I purchased my wedding dress at a bridal store way out in Woodland Hills, but I live and work downtown, and I decided it wasn't worth it to hike all the way about there multiple times for fittings. I looked around at seamstresses downtown and chose Folklore because it was close to me and had good reviews. I'm so glad I did! It was super convenient to be close to downtown but, more than that, Lara was professional, warm and friendly. She did a great job fitting my dress, and made me feel more relaxed and at ease. I felt that I could trust her style and opinion. Her rates were more than fair, and she was very flexible with the timing for appointments, which was so nice. Lara is an amazing dressmaker who transformed my vision of my wedding dress into reality!! I met Lara at an indie wedding expo and loved the display dresses. When I got in contact with her and described my vision of my wedding dress, she set up a time for us to meet in person so she could better understand me. She brought a few sketches of ideas she had, one of which was exactly what I had in mind. We went fabric and lace shopping together and met with her throughout the process. I tried on a muslin version as she created the pattern. She consulted me on all the details, from what length the dress should be and added pockets at my request! (Dresses with pockets are the best!) She added a white lace top that was removeable so that I could rewear the dress afterwards (my dress is red). I could not have been happier with the dress!! Lara even made a matching tie for my husband-to-be!! She was so wonderful to work with and a very reasonable price for a custom wedding dress. read more

I worked with Lara to alter my wedding dress that had many many layers. She was able to cut off inches (probably more) from the dress without taking away from the details of the dress (there were lots of flower accents). She took the waist in so that it fit me perfectly and I didn't look like I was drowning in the dress. She even made a bustle (complete with instructions), a detail I didn't even think of asking for. She was incredible to work with and had a very reasonable rate. Had my wedding dress altered and enhanced by Lara. She's sweet, but wasn't happy with my overall experience. Not only did she do the initial alterations incorrectly... but, I'm pretty sure she was charging me to fix her own mistakes throughout the experience. By the 3rd fitting she had added the incorrect tulle to the dress. When I mentioned this to her, her response was, "I can't see what's in your head" ... but pictures were shown to her initially and if she was confused, asking would've been proper. I found out during this conversation with her, there's different types of Tulle. But, with her expertise, why didn't she say this then instead of just adding random tulle. I'm the customer, she's the professional. But, now this is somehow my fault. I had to go and purchase my own materials and then was charged more for her to fix it including the incorrect Tulle she purchased. I tried to debate this, I was too stressed, I absolutely needed the dress of course , so I was in no position to argue... so I paid her. Constant mistakes throughout the entire experience, too many to go in to. Just know you'll be charged for her to correct them along with the incorrect materials. She's a nice person though, always greeted with a smile if that counts for anything. read more

Lara did an AMAZING job on my alterations for my wedding dress!! I felt so at ease and confident as she was working on my dress, especially when I wore it on my wedding day! My alterations were a bit complicated because the dress was too big almost all the way through, and I wanted to change the neckline and how the sleeves rested on my shoulders. She had me in for multiple fittings to check and make sure the alterations were fitting, and she was so patient & open to any changes I wanted to make along the process. She also hemmed and bustled my train. Lara did everything well before the timeline I had, and is very reasonably priced! I brought my Truvelle wedding dress to Lara for alterations on a tight schedule, and she was so accommodating and did a brilliant job with the dress. The primary thing I needed was a hemline adjustment and a bustle. After a second fitting we decided it needed just a tad more taken up. She turned it around within a week after that and her pricing was so fair. We filmed a video of how to do the bustle that really helped my bridesmaids, and the bustle looked perfect with the style of the dress. Lara is amazing at what she does as well as she has a fun and great personality to go along with it! I first took my dress for a quote to another place, the lady quoted me over the top pricing and I panicked thinking that would be the normal pricing anywhere I went. She wanted to charge me literally more then three times what I paid for the dress (I purchased a sample dress). I knew there was a lot of work to be done, but never thought it would be that much. I found Lara online and she had great reviews, so I decided to give her a try. I went in thinking she was going quote me another outrageous price. She was very professional and wrote down in detail all the alterations that would need to be done, and the kicker the pricing was amazing it was what I had expected to pay in the beginning for all the work that would need to be done on the dress. I just picked up my dress last week for my last fitting and could not be more pleased with the outcome! I was a little nervous on where to take my dress since I ordered it off the internet and really didn't have any recommendations on where to go. However, after doing research, reading reviews and talking to Laura, I made an appointment with Laura. After our first appointment I was very comfortable that Laura was going to do an amazing job on my dress. She is very knowledgeable and the bustle she suggested for my dress was different but fit perfect for the style of my dress. I was still in the process of losing weight so Laura and I decided to wait until 2 weeks before my wedding to make the first alterations. I was comfortable with this suggestion because Laura looked at my dress and indicated that the alterations would be something simple for her in a quick time!
