I'm a little annoyed that our group split the tab and on their electronic card machines you can't see the bill until after they email you the receipt so I didn't know a tip had already been added and I ended up adding another one but that was my bad for not asking. Just keep that in mind when paying. What really bothered me, and is the reason I didn't give 5 stars, is that I traveled into town from more than 6 hours away to get together with some friends I haven't seen in years. we chose this restaurant to meet up for dinner. We had reservations for 6 people. They served us very quickly which was nice but also meant we finished dinner a little quickly. At the end of the meal we were just hanging out and chatting for a little bit and the waiter came over and told us we had to leave because they needed the table. We weren't even at the restaurant for a full hour so I felt like that was a little rude and rushed. My husband wasn't even finished with his drink yet. I understand not taking up a table for hours on end, especially if our meal is over, but to kick us out in under and hour is little bit absurd. Luckily we had somewhere else to go to hang out for a little while but I would have been pretty upset if i had traveled hundreds of miles to visit friends and only got to see them for an hour. This place was great. Me and my friends came here to celebrate a birthday. The drinks were awesome. I do wish they had shrimp on the menu. I had the salmon was super tasteful. Maybe consider adding more options to the menu I felt like I wasn't given much choices. However all the food we ordered was great so I can't complain about that. We decided to sit inside, but the space is nice and light with windows opening out onto the street. This spot is an absolute gem in the city! We wanted a nice option for a birthday dinner and this place was perfect. It's a great, cozy space with friendly staff and a solid menu. We had the meatballs and fried calamari for appetizers and both were wonderful. The calamari was so tender and the sauce was balanced and not aggressively acidic. Follia is one of the most random restaurants I've reviewed, purely because I did not do preliminary research - just needed a quick bite to eat before going to a friend's place in the area. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! My friend and I weren't that hungry so we split a small spicy kale pizza and a burrata - both were quite good and the price point was fair. Was looking for a good Italian restaurant around the Union square/Gramercy areas for an after comedy show dinner and Yelp recommended Follia. Initially, I planned to make reservations via OpenTable but they charge a $25 per guest fee in event of a no show. I decided to not book a table and take my chances on how busy they were after the show in hopes we could be seated without a reservation. Luckily they weren't too busy on a Saturday night at 9pm so we got seated quickly without the reservation. The interior is very romantic and cozy and although the only available seating was at high top tables, those were very comfortable as well. Now for the food....AMAZING. We ordered the ricotta and pesto crostini, spaghetti pomodoro, and a Margherita pizza to split. I have eaten at famous staples Parkside Restaurant and Don Pepe in Queens and the pasta here at Follias was way better. The pizza knocked other Margherita pizzas in nyc out of the park. Living in UES, I would make the trek down to Union square just to eat here again. However, after we ate our pasta and pizza we were still hungry and decided to try the "NYC pizza" which is just 4 cheese with oregano and chili flakes. That was a little disappointing compared to the Margherita, so I'd definitely stuck to Margherita for the future visits. read more

The buttery sauce was like solid. It was gross. When we finally flagged her down, we asked her to heat it up. I love this resturant! My dad and I initially tried it when I was touring an aprtment nearby. The food is amazing, the wine is great, and the prices are solid. My second/third/ fourth time here were during move in with my mom (or subsequent visits from her-- we can't get enough!) The outdoor dining is lovely when the weather is right, the staff is friendly and attentive, and the food is impeccable. But the calamari was for sure frozen based on how easily the breading fell off & lack of tentacle pieces. At least it was edible. My boyfriend got the steak and didn't like it. (Mind boggling.) I got a soup and a crostini and both were just bland. For the price point there are a million other places in the neighborhood that are better. All the staff was nice but it's clear that management is sloppy and cutting corners. The waitresses and hostesses are very young and attractive but scattered.
