I brought my 2010 Lexus GS 350 to Bidwell Automotive on Thursday for an alternator and serpentine belt replacement. I supplied a brand-new NAPA remanufactured alternator that came with a bench-test sheet showing it was verified at 14.4 volts. I picked the car up the same day, drove it about 25 minutes home, and parked it. Friday morning the car was completely dead -- no power, no dash lights, nothing. AAA tested the battery on-site and confirmed it was fine. I had the car towed to a nearby mechanic, who found the main fuse had blown and the plastic cover over that fuse box was broken. I then called Bidwell Automotive. Tom at the front desk told me they would cover the tow cost. Once the car was back at their shop for inspection, Bidwell determined the NAPA alternator was putting out 19 volts, blamed that for blowing the fusible link, and quoted $1,200 to replace the alternator again and repair the fuse box. They also attempted to charge $200 for the tow they had previously said they would cover, later offering it only as a conditional credit if I authorized their repair. I declined and retrieved the vehicle. A basic post-installation voltage check at the battery with the engine running is standard after an alternator replacement and takes under a minute. Whether the 19-volt output resulted from an internal regulator failure or an installation fault, skipping that check before handing back the keys (where they later documented a 19-volt output) released an unsafe vehicle onto the road. If that electrical system had failed while I was on the freeway at 65 mph, it would have been dangerous. I ended up having the repairs completed elsewhere at my own expense and am filing a complaint with the California Bureau of Automotive Repair regarding the workmanship and handling of the vehicle. Called a few days ago for an alignment after I did some suspension work on my car. They said they were pretty busy but could squeeze me in Friday, which was awesome. Dropped my car off and they were done within the afternoon. Four wheel alignment ended up costing $110, which is in my opinion really good. Also nice to find a mechanic that will work on older cars too, since mine is a 94 and some mechanics in Folsom won't even touch a car that old. Overall great experience, I will be back. read more

going to give them the benefit of the doubt. My car has been making mystery noises and I took it there for a diagnostic. I was told that my car might have a transmission issue and that all four of my tires needed replacing. They weren't correct. To their credit, they told me to go to a dealership for a second opinion because they couldn't narrow the diagnosis down. Folsom Lake honda said my transmission was fine but that I needed spark plugs and valve gaskets. I got that work done at a local shop for much less than the dealership would have charged, but dealerships are certainly good at diagnosing car issues with authority. At that local garage they told me my four tires were fine, and simply rotated them as as a courtesy after the spark plug and valve work So, my assessment of Bidwell automotive is that they put a negative spin on everything and told me something that was beyond the worst case scenario.. I felt a little bit like I was getting a diagnostic done by Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh That said, I give them credit for telling me to get a second opinion at the dealership. I'm grateful for that. They also gave me 50% off the diagnostic because they weren't able to narrow it down and give me a definitive answer. I'm tempted to give three stars, but they did give me 50% off. read more

The regulator on my front, driver's window stopped working, resulting in my window not rolling up. I commute, so I needed it fixed ASAP. I called multiple shops and they all said they couldn't get it done in a day and it was a hard part to find. I called Bidwell Automotive and spoke to Art who was a massive help. He told me they'd have to find the part, but he was willing to put in the work to find it and get it to the shop the same day. Luckily they were able to! Art couldn't promise it would be done the same day, but they are open Saturdays, so it was OK. Shockingly, a few hours after I dropped off my car, they called to say it was fixed. Art had someone go pick up the part, rather than wait for it to be delivered that afternoon, so they got it done same day! Bidwell Automotive went above and beyond in helping me fix my window, so I was still able to commute to work on Monday!! read more

The staff at Bidwell are fantastic! I called a few places locally to get a bid for a pre-purchase inspection and they were the only ones who asked me the make/model of the car prior to letting me know they'd be able to do it. Long story short, the pre-inspection revealed thousands of dollars of repair work on the car I was considering purchasing. As someone who isn't car savvy, Art spent time reviewing all the inspection findings with me, explaining things in a way that was easy to understand. Finally I paid for the pre-inspection, and apparently the seller tried to get a copy of the report from Bidwell even though I told him that wasn't an option unless he paid for half the cost of the inspection, which he refused to do. Bidwell stayed loyal to me as the paying customer which goes above and beyond! Their pricing was competitive AND they saved thousands of dollars in repairs for a car that I was told would check out with no issues from the seller. Do not hesitate to use these folks! read more

Looking for an honest mechanic is like searching for a needle in a haystack... the up sell, the BS, the piss poor work that requires you to come back over and over. My 2012 Honda Odyssey is long out of warranty and I moved up from SoCal a few years back. I've done work own my own car and I know when is a good job is done without BS. Alex, the service manager here, is a damn straight shooter. He's on top of it with no BS. He's way beyond his years in demeanor and keeps things moving ahead. They charge what time it takes to get the job done most of the time. I went to the gas station next-door to get fuel. When I got back in my vehicle, it would not start. I called AAA and they were having trouble finding someone in the area so after about 45 minute wait, I walked over to Bidwell automotive. The owner was inside and I explained what was going on, I was able to get the vehicle over to his garage. He had one of his guys come out and greet me instantly and started to try and diagnose the issue. He went through multiple checks, including trying to figure out the complex digital system in my Range Rover. Needless to say he got it back up and running. He easily put in 30 minutes of time and they didn't even charge. I offered to at least tip him and he declined as well. He said if you like what we do just leave us a good review. Well here, I am leaving that review because these guys were amazing. They were friendly, answered all my questions and explained everything as he was going along. Been anxious to get my new tires installed on my truck all week but a lot of places are booked out. Called and they actually answered the phone! Art (the owner) was really awesome and squeezed me in last minute of a Friday of all days. His team is professional and courteous; they even hand thread the bolts before impact wrenching them (so as not to cross thread them).
