Driving around Madison, I was always passing by this restaurant, seeing people come in and out, and knew I had to try it. I finally made it last week and wow, I was missing out. I loved the enchiladas, the perfect balance of spicy and savory. My boyfriend ordered the carne asada and left no crumbs. The service was friendly and there are plenty of seating options. Off on the hunt again for REAL MEXICAN FOOD IN NASHVILLE! So far I'm impressed. This little Madera and Padre Mexican restaurant is in an old building and it's not fancy but the food/ prices makes up for all of that. Plus the service is on Point! Sometimes good things come in small packages! The Guacamole and chips are the freshest I have had other than in Mexico. The Michelada is very good too. Glass rimed with Tajin. All the plates we has were DELICIOUS And fresh. I may have found a second home! Try out if you want the real deal. I had the chili rellano and hubby had the barbacola plate. Very good!!!! read more

Excellent traditional Mexican food! I've been eating here at least once a week for over a year and it's always great! The staff is very friendly, the red and green sauces in the squeeze bottles are the best in town!! As some others have said, it is hard to find good, "authentic" Mexican food around here. For me, the litmus test is always the Chile Relleno. Do they make it with gooey cheese sauce coming out from inside, or is it actual queso fresco. Virtually every Mexican restaurant around here has the goop coming out, a sure sign they are not homemade and/or are just making them the way locals think they should be made. Well, not here. The Chili Relleno are made the right way, with two big chili's per plate, rice, and beans. It's a bit of a hole-in-the wall, but those are usually the best places, and the service is friendly! We were nearby for a meeting with our contractor. She lives in Madison and recommended Fonda El Cubilete as an authentic restaurant nearby. And I'm glad she recommended it. We started with a pineapple agua fresca and an horchata. My husband got the barbacoa, which was delicious: tender and braised in a really good, rich sauce. I had the poblano chicken, which was a some pounded chicken with cheese and poblano slices and onion and a creamy (and a little spicy) sauce. It was good. The frijoles were tasty. Quick, tasty, affordable. Not a bad meal! I'd be happy to go back when I'm next in Madison! read more

Authentic?? How many times places claim this. Let me start by saying I'm from California and I know "authentic Mexican" food. Since moving to Nashville I have yet to find "authentic Mexican" food. Until now - El Cubilete delivered!!! Finally!! Fresh made tortillas, properly seasoned meat and authentic Spanish rice. I had the poblano chicken while my boyfriend had what is basically their take on a Chile verde. Everything was delicious! Dint let the front scare you away. This was definitely worth the long drive. Do not go here! My wife and I both got really sick after. I was tempted to call the health department. Wondered if the put something in our food because I said our food was cold. Last time we went, our food came out cold! We ordered enchiladas and the cheese inside was cold. Not melted one bit. The enchilada sauce on top was cold. The chicken inside was cold! The beans were room temperature, like they were in the middle of heating up but gave to us before they were done. I said something and they come back with another plate that was overly hot, as if they threw it in the microwave. The enchilada sauce turned to pure liquid. We also ordered a tostada and the chicken on it was cold. Also 2 carne asada tacos, but only brought us 1. They charged $3 for a side of sour cream. That's more than what a 16oz tub cost. And you don't get chips and salsa! What kind of Mexican restaurant doesn't give free chips and salsa with dine in service?! read more

This is probably the most authentic Mexican food in Nashville. You will not find a duplicate menu of exactly the same recipes like almost every other Mexican place I have been to. Instead your getting fresh well prepared food made with love. What you will not get is alcohol (other than cervezas), but the food is good enough to stand on its own. I knew when I walked in this place was the real deal, and you will as well, just don't be taken aback. Service is not very good but I honestly didn't expect it would be so no worries. I will very likely return, but it does get packed at dinnertime, so keep that in mind. read more

Fonda El Cubilete - Pollo Chipotle with corn tortillas, omg good. - Mexican Near Me - Nashville, Tennessee

The portions are slightly smaller than the other cubilete restaurants. The chicken I got was crunchy in a bad way as they hadn't removed the tendons which made it a very unpleasant eating experience. The sauce was delicious and weirdly enough, the beans were better here than other locations. read more

This menu is interesting, a little different than your average hispanic place. They have goat stew, pork rind stew, and pork backbones. I want to try all of that but I started with pork ribs in salsa verde. Much spicier than I anticipated, (awesome,) and the menu didn't describe it as spicy at all. I had agua fresca, hibiscus flavor which they call Jamaica and esquites, street corn in a cup also pretty spicy. The only bad thing for me was a very strong smell of cleaner. Clean is good, but when the oder competes with the enjoyment of the food it's no bueno. I'm sure they just got done cleaning and it won't be so bad next time. I'll be back. read more

El Cubilete IS our favorite Hispanic restaurant. My wife and I eat there 2 to 3 times a week. It is one of the best restaurants in Madison. If you're looking for a taste of Mexico by all means we highly recommend. The tacos are FRESH and made with REAL tortillas not the store bought things these are hand made I recommend tacos the carnitas excellent. We recommend any and everything on the menu from Flautas to the Soupa El Rey. Soup of the king Beef with vegetables even the loaded Fajitas. WoW and the chorizo is by far the best I have ever had. Wow, right off the bat we knew this place would be authentic! So many things to brag about. My friend got the horchata and it was very good! I got mole with this amazing spice sauce. Finally we decided to try Fonda El Cubilete, and are so glad we did! Everything here is amazing! Deep, rich sauces, housemade tortillas, and for crying out loud try the huraches! I can't wait to make it back on a weekend to try the pozole verde, drooling just thinking about it. Nashville is a mexican food desert, and this place is an oasis! I live down the road from this place. I wasn't really sure what to expect, but the ONE review posted a lot of really interesting pictures. I had the green enchiladas and a steak taco, with a side of guacamole - let me say that this place isn't winning for ambiance, but the food is pretty incredible. Everything tasted fresh and homemade, and the food was hands down better than any of the other Mexican places I've been to in Nashville. As much as I love the crazy crack cheese dip I'm used to gorging with unlimited chip baskets, this is not the place for that. While I wish they also had margaritas, they definitely have a few decent beers to choose from, and while you won't get any chips, you will be getting an awesome meal. I will NEVER eat at this establishment again! I found this place based off reviews. Being from California, I miss authentic Mexican Food. My daughter who is 1/2 Mexican went with me. Both of us speak Spanish but weren't given the opportunity to speak it to the waitress because we were bombarded with questions as to where my daughter was from. The older man asked me if I got my daughter from Mexico and repeatedly said, "You're Mexican and you don't eat meat?" Then he spoke to me as if I was a tourist who never saw a Mexican person or food. I kept saying, "I understand." We ordered 2 bean and cheese burritos and I asked if it could be made into a meal because she got rice and beans on the side. He said no problem. We got the bill and everything was a la Carte! $20 and Change for the bill. Burritos were very small. No chips or salsa offered. As we were leaving one of the servers said to another in Spanish, "Look at that white lady, why is she in this neighborhood." I turned to her and shocked her because I said in Spanish how I belonged there like anyone else and I knew we were taken advantage of and offended on top of it! read more
