Love Mexican flavors! My daughter and her man brought me here because it is their favorite. We started with: Chips and salsa - complementary Guacamole dip - tasty, pretty standard Our entrees: Ceviche - per daughter it was tasty and a large portion Tamales - son in law liked the sauce and masa to pork ratio Cheese enchiladas - nice and cheesy, red sauce has a good flavor but whoa - the amount of rice and beans! They were pretty average/typical. Crunchy taco - no lettuce: generous meat and cheese and the house salsa was flavor. There is plenty of parking (near a shopping center) and the restaurant was spacious. Service was friendly and our drinks were refilled. This is a solid Mexican restaurant, probably more a 3.5 but I am not aware of a way to give a half star. read more

The food was absolutely the worst Mexican food that my family and I have ever eaten. Queso was actually decent though. The taco meat had no flavor, no spices just the taste of ground beef. The fajitas were so salty, we could not even eat them. When the waitress asked: "how was the meal" when we said the fajitas were horrible, without us saying anything about them she replied "too salty?" Evidently we were not the first to complain about the salt. The waitress when/if she did show up at the table seemed totally overwhelmed and full of excuses. Felt rather bad for her. I hadn't been here in a couple years, but won't make that mistake again. The queso is perfect and I enjoyed the salsa as well. So many unique menu items: Philly steak tacos, Hawaiian burritos, and birria tacos which my friend enjoyed. I went for the #22 chili rellano, burrito and taco. We stopped in for an early dinner on a Sunday. We are creatures of habit, so to try a new place was a big deal and I'm happy to report we loved it and will be back. The service was great and the food was even better. My shrimp chimichanga was cooked perfectly which is rare that the shrimp is not over cooked and tough. My friend and I ended up here after searching for Mexican restaurants in Mount Juliet with outdoor seating. This restaurant is conviently located in a shopping plaza with Publix and plenty of parking. Despite it being a gorgeous day outside, the patio was closed. Our server was really nice and brought out warm chips and tasty chunky salsa and added a bowl of hot salsa. I ordered steak and chicken fajitas from the lunch menu. We had a pleasant first visit. This place seems to hate spices. I have never had unflavored ground beef in a taco before. It was absolutely nasty. I almost threw up.

Our favorite Mexican restaurant in Mount Juliet. The service is consistently good. Love the warm chips and tasty salsa. We ordered the steak fajitas for two. The amount of food was impressive. Good ratio of meat to veggies. The onions and peppers were cooked with a little crispness left. Not mushy. A couple tomatoes were tossed in too. The salad plate for the fajitas was nicely presented. I would say the customer service is lacking tremendously. We walked in and had to wait a little bit to get a table at 2pm. We waited at least 15 minutes to be acknowledged at our table and then after we ordered, the waiter never checked on us after bringing our food and drinks out. We also had to go up to register after our meal to pay because the waiter never came back. The food was amazing though! We got the Pollo Loco, cheese quesadilla, tacos, and enchiladas. Came in on a Sunday night, glad they weren't take out only. Chips and salsa were plenty for our party of 6 once we sat down. The food was ok. I just wish the salsa burrito I got wasn't so close to it the enchilada. The flavors clashed a bit and everything became a bit soggy once I cut into it and the liquid leaked everywhere. Also, where we were eating there was air constantly blowing on our heads, making us want to rush out of here. All the food was plentiful, the beans and rice were the highlight for me here. I feel like El Comal took some ingredients that are relatable to Mexican food and without any guidance other than maybe some pictures, tried to approximate a Mexican food menu. Everything turned out soggy, drenched in oil and tasteless. Perhaps it would help to dial back the menu and focus on one or two things like the bean to lard ratio. Or, flavoring the chicken. The guacamole was fine, a safe bet if you're pressed to eat here. I have never in my life seen taquitos that look like theirs, and I have taught kindergartners to make taquitos. We stopped by here while we were in the area on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant is located in a strip mall. The interior is your average Mexican restaurant. We were warmly greeted and sat at a booth. Our sever was a young woman who was friendly and helpful. We asked about the sizing of the guacamole. They've got a small guacamole for $3.99 and a large for $6.99. She said that the small was about 1/3 the size of the large. We decided on the large guacamole. The chips and salsa were pretty good. The chips were served hot, which I always enjoy. The salsa was more liquid than chunky. The guacamole was smooth, not chunky like I enjoy. I like some tomatoes, onions, cilantro in the guacamole, The serving was large for the price, however, I don't think I would order it again. I got the shrimp grande quesadilla for $12.99. It comes with pico, guacamole, sour cream and lettuce. The quesadilla was loaded with shrimp and cheese. I thought the shrimp could've had a little more seasoning on them. they looked pan seared on one side. We've eaten here before several times and really enjoyed their food, but last week when we went everything was just really off. The tortilla chips tasted really stale which was surprising, and the salsa had a really bad taste to it, it's normally a lot better than that. It was a rare time where we didn't finish the salsa or chips provided. I didn't order anything crazy, just a chimichanga and a chile poblano to try it. From their menu, it says: "Stuffed poblano pepper with chihuahua cheese, covered with egg whites and deep fried, topped with ranchero salsa." What I actually got was a flat poblano pepper with nothing in it, extremely soggy and covered in a weird red sauce. I was hoping it would be similar to the chimichanga which is also fried, but it was so soggy and any breading just fell apart in the sauce which was not a salsa. It looked awful and didn't taste good at all. The chimichanga was fine, but the cheese sauce was really bland this time, they usually put green chiles in the cheese sauce and didn't. My girlfriend just got rice with cheese and onions, and didn't have any complaints about it, but it's hard to mess up rice, cheese and onions. We were going to get dessert, but decided not to bother since the kitchen must have been having an off night. We would probably go back, but they really need to look at what their kitchen staff is cooking. This place is bad. The food was cold when I got it, the burrito I asked for only had meat.... no rice, beans, nothing. Meat wrapped in a tortilla. Food has gradually gone downhill to the point it is almost not edible. Today was last straw! Walking in the door the smell is a terrible sewage odor and should have left them. After terrible time even getting a table because girl was putting on makeup in back booth and couldn't be bothered we had same girl as server and didn't get refills. Could have almost lived with that until time to pay and was standing at the counter for 10 minutes and no one came to take money. I flagged the hostess down who barked out "you'll have to wait a minute I am busy!" I did not point out there was no one waiting to be seated I just said "I am too". Service is great, the restaurant is clean and cozy, and the quality of the food is top-notch even the chips and salsa they bring out is worth paying good money for! After multiple orders I can say that I'm done with El Comal. They use KETCHUP to replace tomatoes. It's in their salsa and they used it as a base for Shrimp Diablo. I eat here at least once every two weeks because the mixed fajitas and cheese dip are so good. I have tried many other items on the menu and have yet to come across anything that I didn't like. The chips and salsa are tasty and to me, better than many of the other Mexican restaurants in town. The owner is nice and the staff are for the most part but are generally in a hurry in taking your order. They are very busy every weekend, yet it rarely ever affects getting seated in a timely manner.
