Made a reservation a week prior through OpenTable…read more We arrived at 530pm on a Friday and were able to take advantage of the Happy Hour, which was a phenomenal deal. There were 3 of us. We split 2 of the set appetizer menu. Came with 9 items in each set. The black bean hummus was delicious! I ordered a starry night cocktail, which was also good!

It was a bit of a bummer since we couldn't enjoy all of the crazy artwork, but at least there was the perfect weather. Overcast with a beautiful breeze. I got the Starry Night and the Frozen Strawberry Limoncello. He got the Warhol Wake Up and the Impressionist, which was created by Michelle, our wonderful bartender. We decided to give a little bit of everything a try so we ordered the "Get 'Em All!" It had jerk chicken skewers, a Cuban slider, a cauliflower taco and more! In my opinion, the best bite of the plate is always the jerk chicken. A close second was the chicken chorizo slider, which was also bursting with flavor. And don't even get me started on the dessert! Those triple chocolate cake pops were so decadent. The strawberry and whipped cream were a nice pallet cleanser in between nibbles. All in all it was a great time with delicious drinks and bites.

Always a good experience at Death in the Afternoon…read more Just a chill vibe, great service, cocktails speak for themselves. Really enjoy trying one of their creations and their take on a classic. Short wait for the bar...worth it!! Street parking available or ride share. Drink Responsibly....cheers!

I had 30 places on my Mills 50 walking route that day, and Death in the Afternoon sat at the very…read moretop of my list. The name alone was enough to capture my imagination. It evokes another era, the 1930s and 1940s, a hidden place where people escaped reality for a few hours and where every whispered conversation felt a little more dangerous than it should. There is something about saying the name out loud that feels almost mischievous. Even before stepping inside, it conjures images of old Hollywood glamour, forbidden romance, and the kind of longing that filled classic films. The sort of place where people met not because they had to, but because they couldn't stay away. The space itself more than lives up to the promise of its name. Death in the Afternoon is one of the most visually interesting places Orlando has to offer. It feels intimate, mysterious, and wonderfully removed from the ordinary. I couldn't help but think of The Great Gatsby, not because of excess or extravagance, but because of that same sense of romance, possibility, and yearning for something just out of reach. In fact, I visited twice in the same afternoon. My first stop was simply to satisfy my curiosity and see if the reality matched the image I had built up in my head. It did. So after completing the rest of my three-hour Mills 50 walk, I found myself drawn back for a meal and a chance to enjoy the atmosphere a little longer. The menu is limited, so choose wisely. The salmon entrée was excellent and easily the standout of my meal. The Caesar salad was pleasant enough, but the salmon is what I would come back for. As a perfect ending to the day, a dear longtime Yelp colleague joined me and we spent some time catching up on the latest news and gossip in our circles. Good conversation, a memorable meal, and an atmosphere that feels like it belongs to another time. Death in the Afternoon is not just a restaurant. It's the kind of place that stays on your mind long after you've left. Make sure your stay is not over 2 hours tho ..

This review is specifically about their brunch prix fixe menu and bottomless mimosas. But the whole vibe of this place is giving Spanish tapas style dining. The brunch prix fixe menu comes with 3 courses and is absolutely worth the $32! I was so full by the end of it. And had food to take home too. The smoked salmon montaditos were my fav, but the Benedict and flan de coco definitely deserve honorable mentions. And then to top it off the bottomless mimosas and sangrias are only $23/person (one mimosa is like $12 so it's super worth it). At first the mimosas were rolling out kind of slowly, but then our server picked up the vibe that we were here to DRINK so he kept serving up the mimosas and sangrias at our pace :) I love that you can alternate between mimosas and sangrias instead of just sticking to one or the other.

That specific section of the restaurant was very loud and cold. It was hard to have a conversation because we couldn't hear each other. Service on the other hand was excellent. Our waitress was constantly refilling our glasses and she checked on us multiple times. We ordered the pan con tomate, Patatas Bravas, potato tortilla, montaditos and chicken paella. The con tomate was really fresh and the sauce with the Patatas Bravas was delicious. The paella was really disappointing. It was so dry that we had to ask for a side of sauce. The chicken was also dry and chewy. Dinner was decent, but I think their brunch is much better.

Located at 1319 Florida Mall Ave, it provides a unique culinary experience with fresh ingredients, but some reviewers note inconsistent execution on larger plates like paella or steak. Service is excellent.. The staff and people working in their restaurant are amazing Turull's menu features a smattering of larger plates but is anchored in tapas, including the ubiquitous barometer bite tortilla de patatas ($12). Our forecast? Dry and spongy. To resuscitate, pieces of the potato omelet were bathed in the garlicky oil of a neighboring cazuela of gambas al ajillo ($17) -- a cazuela of goodness brimming with sweet, springy shrimp. Another barometer bite, pan con tomate ($8), fared better. Tomato bread is simple in concept, less simple to execute. Bread is the non-negotiable, and the bread at Turull's was sufficiently reminiscent of traditional "glass bread" to impress, crisp-crusted and open-crumbed -- a perfect raft for fresh tomato, olive oil and salt. We could have eaten several plates. My favorite thing to enjoy at DBA is their Wednesday girl dinner special. It features a choice of drink (I get a gin martini, but there's a margherita, wine, and beer option), fries, and a caesar salad for $25. You can add fried chicken to the salad for an additional fee, and it's worth it for the lightly battered, tender chicken that they add. This Wednesday special is brilliant and absolutely delicious. The fries are perfect (get the honey mustard!), and the salad would be something I would order time and time again, even off the special. My friend got the double smashburger and the smell of the caramelized onions compelled me to ask for a bite. I'm willing to stray from my fries and salad to enjoy this burger again next time. I'm still thinking about it days later... For dessert, I enjoyed the chocolate olive oil cake (a nod to the beloved olive oil cake at their sister restaurant next door). Take a look at my photos to see this dish in all of its glory. Though it's small, we all shared in the rich dessert and left fully satisfied. Again- big fan of DBA and plan to hit them up much more often now that I've rediscovered their Wednesday special! Previous review: 5 Stars for boozy but balanced cocktails, a chill atmosphere, bites that stay on my mind for days, and staff that makes you feel like family. dba recently opened as a sister concept to The Strand nextdoor. It's owned by the same family and carries over a similarly casual-chic, unpretentious atmosphere with quality offerings that will make it a staple in your rotation. No, really, I've been there 3 times in 2 weeks... Where The Strand is an outstanding neighborhood restaurant which happens to also feature an interesting beverage program, dba is an outstanding little cocktail bar which happens to also feature an interesting bites menu. Both do everything they do really well. In terms of drinks, my go-to is the cigarette for breakfast- essentially their take on an old fashioned, but every drink I've ordered has been equally potent and balanced. The drinks have got nuance. I've also ordered a wet gin martini with blue cheese olives and that classic was done to perfection. But, if you aren't a drinker, don't fret- I went with a friend who is pregnant and they were able to concoct a fun mocktail for her as well. in terms of bites, you can't go wrong with the duck flatbread (I have been dreaming about it since!), the pan con tomate, or the cacio e pepe deviled eggs (same as on the menu next door). Next time I'm definitely trying the octopus salad! Finally, ambiance. This spot feels like you're sitting in a good friend's cozy living room. Assuming your good friend has impeccable taste and plenty of time for a curated thrift store haul. They've got records playing great tunes (you'll get some quick quiet moments as they change the vinyls throughout the night) and the lighting is dim. Again, it's unpretentious and is the kind of place you want to really settle into on a weekday night. Can't wait for my next visit!
