Starting your meal with their signature Frozen Rosalita (hibiscus marg) is a must. The Nachos and Guacamole are a great appetizer to start. I love how they not only have vegetarian options, but also a whole vegan/vegetarian menu giving us so many options! I opted for the Hongos (mushroom) Tacos and they were incredible- mushroom tacos are often bland but that was not the case here. The sides of plantains and equites were also delicious and completed the meal. For dessert, I loved how they had a brownie a la mode on the menu - my favorite dessert. I had guac and chips (amazing), nachos (they were good until I realized pork was at the bottom) I highly recommend it if pork is your thing. The chicken quesadillas were mid too cheesy not flavorful. We had such a great time at Fonda. We love this place and found it while waiting for our reservation at around the corner restaurant. But we wish we had stayed here because the staff at Fonda was so much nicer. The decor of this place is celebratory from paper machè flying above you with flags and stung up lights to a great map of the areas done in a cool way on the way to the restroom. Mezcal drinks are off the charts amazing and so are the heavily handed ranch waters. Thank you for letting us sit at your bar and feel like family. We love the vibe here and we'll definitely be back. A Great place for hangout with friends at the bar with some happy hours drinks and food. My favorite drink is the Frozen Rosalita and Mango Margarita. It is a perfect drinks for a very hot summer! We found this place by chance after a nearby Indian restaurant wouldn't seat us because one person in our group was under 10. Luckily, it turned out to be a great find. They have excellent happy hour deals, and we were seated without any trouble early on a Friday evening. The chips and guacamole were fantastic, especially paired with the chipotle sauce. We also ordered the campechano taquitos, which were juicy and packed with flavor. The drinks really stood out, particularly the Rosalita and the Pepito. Service was attentive and friendly. I had suggested a few restaurants to one of my friends for a recent catch-up dinner, and she immediately selected Fonda's Tribeca location, saying she had really been wanting to try it. We met at the restaurant and were both impressed with their modern, yet kitschy, decor. There were sleek leather booths and industrial overhead lamps, but also colorful crepe paper decorations and piñatas. The staff was friendly and efficient, but even in their glory, they were outshined by the heavenly food we enjoyed. My Pescado Tikin XIC arrived looking like an artistic masterpiece on a plate. In the center of the plate was a large mound of tender white rice that was packed with roasted, sweet plantains. It was topped with a zesty, achiote-marinated cod filet. The fish was perfectly cooked, and the spicy dry rub was tantalizing. Pickled habanero onions were sprinkled over the fish. Pooled around the star of the main dish was a sweet and earthy black bean sauce that had a few dabs of a spicy mayo in it. I could not get enough of that delicious, cinnamon-y sauce! My friend adored her Birria slow-braised beef as well. Both of us finished every morsel! Fonda Tribeca far exceeded our expectations, and we would go back there in a heartbeat! read more

First things first, NYC is not known for our Mexican food and especially not more niche regional Mexican, as it typical of SoCal. For example, it is super uncommon to find taco options other than carne asada or chicken or al pastor. Forget finding tripe or cabeza or even carnitas. Getting that out the way, Fonda is a great, upscale option in Tribeca to get your Mexican food fix. Margs are amazing and staff is always accommodating. Get the Queso Fundido and build your own Carnitas. Being that it's in Tribeca, it tends to be an earlier scene here compared to the Chelsea location. The lighting and space here is much different, with high ceilings, candlelight and... high chairs for the Tribeca family set. The Avenue B Fonda used to be my favorite, would love to see it open in the neighborhood again. read more

I'm definitely a Mexican food snob after living in Mexico City and California - this is my favorite upscal(ish) Mexican in the city! I came by for an early dinner with a friend where we had the hibiscus non-alcoholic drink, guac, mole enchiladas (with cheese), tixin fish (the cod with plantain rice and black bean sauce), plantains, watermelon salad and for dessert the tres leches, churros, and Mexican hot chocolate. Musts: guac was actually great! Mike enchiladas very good too but the tixin fish wins it! Plantain side dish was phenomenal. The water salad was refreshing. Came for a dinner after a class and was impressed by how many people were here at 7:30 pm on a weeknight. I usually associate tribeca with being a little dead at night. I got the guac and the carnitas. They came in generous portions and I liked that you get a hot sauce of your heat level of choice to top on the guac. The carnitas was also generously portioned. There was nice dim lighting and friendly servers. They're currently serving a special restaurant week menu as well, but I didn't feel like it was worth it. Overall, delicious food. The birria is the best I've had hands down & apparently is the original way to serve birria. The most tender meat literally, not too salty, not too spicy, flavor explosion and with the flour tortillas to balance. Wow wow wow...I can't wait to go back for it. The water must be well purified here...it's the cleanest tasting water I've had at a restaurant in nyc that I can recall...I'm a water drinker and can taste the slightest differences. My friends taquitos looked like tacos we thought taquitos were rolls but maybe they got her order wrong or we don't know what's what lol she still loved them as well as her croquettes. Visited Fonda Tribeca again and was very satisfied again. We had a reserved table for 7 at 8:15pm on a Monday night. We were greeted with smiles all around & seated immediately. Directly after being asked by our server, Luis, about our water preference we were asked if we'd like cocktails and guacamole (you most certainly DO!) and how spicy? The freshly made guacamole was served with Street sized blue corn soft tortillas, classic fresh made tortillas chips & a side of hot sauce. Delicious as always! The cocktails followed quickly after the guacamole. I ordered a spicy classic margarita on the rocks which wasn't spicy despite being served with a whole Serrano pepper in it (so I ate the pepper along with my sips ). I then ordered the enchiladas de mole negro. The velvety molé sauce abundantly covered 3 large enchiladas filled with slowly cooked tender chicken and was lightly dusted with queso fresco. A really wonderful example & use of a well executed molé. I had a side of their plantanos fritos (fried plantains) & they were irresistible...again! We chose to share a citrus tres leches cake that was presented beautifully & sweet, creamy and airy all at once. A perfect combination of flavors to end the meal. I came here for a get together and the service was wonderful. we ordered the salmon and tacos and chips and guac. it's rather expensive and the price point doesn't align with the flavors and food quantity/quality but it's a great place to meet up downtown and have a good time. it's fairly empty when we went. the ambience was fantastic and s good vibe. i will try to come back here if i'm near but it's tough cause it's a bit out of the way unless folks work near the area. the salmon was cooked great and the guac is very organic and delicious. come by on tuesdays for those tacos! read more

I wonder why Fonda is rated so highly. On my last trip I tried the guac and chips and the frijolitos con queso from the vegetarian menu. The food was above-average but nothing special. The service was friendly but the food took for ever to arrive. At least they could have brought the guac and chips sooner. The set up at Fonda is inviting and the location is very convenient. But I am still searching for reasons why this would be a four or five star Mexican restaurant. Perhaps I will change my rating over the course of a few more visits, but that seems unlikely. read more

Wildly underrated place with the nicest staff and quality mole. After my trip to Oaxaca I felt like I was thinking about mole negro A LOT. My friends and I decided to come here after work and we all loved everything we got. I got the enchiladas with mole negro and was surprised how good it was! Just wished it was a little hotter. The desserts were also incredible. We got the tres leches and the chocolate caramel cake. I'd say the chocolate caramel cake was better, but I loved how the tres leches was slightly citrusy. I'd recommend trying both! The only thing I didn't enjoy was the esquites. It was good don't get me wrong. But it was watery and not super flavorful. Great spot for a chill dinner spot with friends or if you're craving Mexican at a place that's not impossible to get into. Will be putting this into my restaurant rotation! read more

I didn't really care for the service, a bit slow and unattractive, we ran out of water at some point, waitress walked by a few times w/o asking if we needed anything. Finally was able to try the Tribeca location after having been to Chelsea several times and even East Village back in 2019 when it was still open! Very different layout and decor than the other spots but still fun vibes. Service was great and menu was the same as the other locations. Tried the Shrimp Mosquitos and they aren't joking - that sauce is spicy!! Still delicious though. My boyfriend had one of their specials which was a duck mole. I usually always go for the Rosalita Marg but decided to switch it up and try the Paloma. Was not as good and would not do again. read more

The guac is great and the salsa they serve with it, though very spicy, is incredibly flavorful. Taquitos were excellent especially when we added some of the guac on top, and they kept bringing us more chips when we ran out. I ordered a salad with steak, and it was so good. The steak was cooked perfectly and so well seasoned, and went really well with the smoky salsa. The salad was huge and had a good balance of ingredients, although it came with pecans and there were very few in my bowl. All in all, the food was amazing. Drinks were also very good. The restaurant itself is also lovely. The vibe is upscale but not snobby--we were in jeans and felt fine. I live in California so I know what a good Mexican food shit taste like and I've been into many regions of Mexico to have tasted some authentic stuff.
