In Brooklyn, Gueros comes pretty close. One of the most outstanding tacos I've eaten, believe it or not, was in Portugal at Tikki Taco. A euro buys one the most delicious taco. I was searching for a taqueria that came close to Portugal. Well, I think I'm close...I stumbled upon Sullivan Taqueria walking back from a recent lunch. I Yelped it and decided it was time to give it a try. Sullivan is a small establishment with a beautiful painted mural on its wall. The menu is simple, tacos filled with either fish, beef, vegetables or chicken. You can also choose burrito bowls, quesadillas and tamales. I was really hungry due to a breakfast of coffee and coffee.. I ordered a chicken mole taco, a tamale with cheese and tomato filling and a horchata. One places order and finds a seat and waits for order to be served to you. I found a table and my horchata was served first. This delicious creamy, velvety milk drink laced with cinnamon could also be considered a dessert. Then my chicken mole taco and tamales came together. The tamale was good but needed a kick but the chicken mole taco was delicious with spicy ( chiles) and bittersweet undertones. The taco is a bit small thus, I decided to try more. I ordered 2 vegetarian tacos and since it was Taco Tuesday I got a free taco ( buy 3 get 4th free). Now, here was my kind of taco: cilantro, tomato, onions, black beans avocado and a little queso. I took the 2nd home and my free chicken mole taco I gave to one of my employees. The sauces are quite good: salsa verde and the red sauce are dynamite and just the right spice. No frills taqueria on a quiet street near Soho. It's a pretty small restaurant but there's additional seating at an outdoor shed. Chips and guac were solid but the horchata was deliciously sweet and enjoyable. We ordered the Barbacoa, Carne Asada and Pescado tacos and enjoyed them all. Hope management sees this, The food is not bad, the taste is better than chipotle imo, my chicken bowl was almost 15$ after adding guac. BUT... the portion is REALLY small, the bowl you guys used is very small and thin, when i saw the server pick up the empty bowl, i already regret coming in. Its like 3-4 bites of rice, and a tiny bit of everything else. And the food only fill half of the bowl. The rice and beans alone from chipotle is more filling than this lunch, i will not be returning, the food is great, but for 15$, there are way better options in soho. If management dont lower the price to 10, or increase the portion size, this store wont last very long. read more

Sullivan Taqueria is a cute whole in the wall taco spot. Although the building is small, the food's flavor is huge. They offer tacos, burrito bowls, quesadillas, and apps. My friend and I both ordered fish tacos and split some guac. You can't go to a taco spot without ordering guac- I don't make the rules. The guacamole was extremely fresh and came with homemade chips. These chips were thicker than your average tortilla chip and salted to perfection. I could eat a whole bag of them by themselves, no problem. Our tacos were also delicious and the perfect size. I work nearby and this is a godsend for the neighborhood. Hoping they succeed. Legitimately great, authentic, reasonably priced Mexican. Great homemade tortillas (really rare in NYC) and the fillings are great. Had a few tacos: - Barbacoa is fantastic - Chicken mole is really flavorful, though I wish they used dark meat because the chicken breast they are using comes out a bit dry in a braise - Carne asada was really solid, well seasoned and cooked - Fish was the only slight disappointment, as it came out slightly overcooked, and was bland given no salsas I think the main bit of feedback I would give is that I was really missing a bit of acid on the tacos, especially the fish, as well as some heat. Offering some fresh limes or a salsa or two for free like most decent taco places do would instantly fix this. (I would also appreciate some free radishes as a palate cleanser to balance out the fat from the meat, but that's a pretty secondary thing. ) read more

I wandered in minutes before close after desperately trying to find eats after a 7 hour flight and a 2 hour train ride. My first meal of the day was desperately needed and as I walked through the door of this restaurant I met an angel. She said they were out of a lot but she could still make me barboacoa. I emphatically agreed and she made began frying up delicious smelling corn tortillas and meat. The customer right behind me she politely informed had came in too late and they were closed. I realized she felt bad for me and decided to make me a big meal out of sympathy. She then threw in a bag of chips as well and was just polite and friendly throughout our interaction. When dug into the food my eyes just shot open wide. They were absolutely delicious (very oily though, so get a fork) and fresh tasting. The hot sauce and homemade chips were just pushing the whole experience to another level. These are great people making great food and I can't recommend a trip there enough.
