Ground Beef Scramble with Hash Browns
    Mike L.

I've been to some of the other Fong's before in Oakland, assuming they're all connected, so when I was in the area I decided to meet up a friend there. Their indoor seating was closed/unavailable, so they only take take-out orders. I tried and recommend their groundbeef scramble, and salmon croquette meal (it usually comes with grits, I ordered it with rice). Both of the entrees came with bread. - A person who ordered before me ordered their salmon croquette well done (to make it crispier, I much try that next time) The staff turned around the order relatively quickly. There was a good amount of tasty food for the price. When you're in East Oakland and looking for breakfast other than fast food, this is a good option. I'd go again.

Napkin full of oils. She wouldn't give me another one sad! 10.4.2020 Life

She answered the phone right away one star. Second star bc they got my order correct. She was sort of rude rushing me off the phone! I barely could tell her my order! Slow down have some more patience please!!!! Now I get the food very promptly. I didn't even know how long it would be bc she didn't tell me. I couldn't asks bc she hung up so quickly. The food was 3 scrambled mighty small eggs I would say. I asked for cheese big mistake slice of melted cheese everywhere besides on the eggs! Hot link was good but over cooked taste like beef jerky. Eggs were under cooked runny scrambled eggs hmm. The home style potatoes were not cooked sad! The sour dough toast delicious! Toasted well buttered well. I had one napkin and if you look at my picture you will see it for destroyed from the oils. Before I could use it. I will say I have been wanting to try this place for years bc. I always see long lines. Everyone has different taste buds so this is just mine. Give it a try good luck! She

EAST OAKLAND LEGENDARY SPOT RIGHT HERE FIRST OF ALL !!!! I love Fongs so much I would give them 5 stars but if you're a native like me you know why I can't , lol . BUT FIRST , the good stuff . CASH ONLY ! Bring cash . Just a heads up. Fongs is located on foothill , it's a very small store front , old school diner feel inside . They've been open for business since I was a kid ! There is no parking lot so parking can be annoying ESPECIALLY on the weekends ( they're busy every weekend ! ) you can sit and eat inside which I have before , but it's easy to get skipped in there if it's busy since it's walk ins & pick up orders coming in hot lol ! Generally I'll call my order in and pick it up . The food : simple classic breakfast . They have breakfast specials and combos , pancakes & French toast . Salmon croquettes... even fried pork chop or steak and egg for breakfast . MY go to is really simple . Grits extra cheese and sausage . Never have been disappointed with my food here . I will say however the orange juice taste like straight concentrate so I wouldn't get the orange juice .... Lol here's the lack of 1 Star ........ customer service lmao ! And I love them . Sometimes it's hilarious sometimes I'm not in the mood nor have any patience! But man they ..... actually it's not they it's the infamous red haired lady . She is so rude . Will hang up on you on the phone if she can't understand you . And I know it can get busy in there but that doesn't mean take your frustration out on the customs !!! Also you can get skipped easily if you're sitting inside , kinda gotta glance over at them every few minutes just to make sure they see you lol . I'd give them a try , simple basic classic breakfast . Fresh and hot everytime . Open 7 days a week from 7:30am - 2:30 pm .

Why are they closed on a Wednesday?

They are SUPPOSED to be open 7 days a week from 7:30-2:30 but randomly they do close . Why ? I'm not sure but I don't blame them lol .

    Do they do take out?

You can call in your order ahead of time for pick up only , no delivery . And you must bring cash they don't take card !

Did not acknowledge special event even though the birthday was listed on the reservations which I can overlook but this would be a great way to deliver a great experience. They seem to have too many rules in place and not enough freedom for staff to make things right. We didn't want to send anything back when the dish was not up to par. But we informed them of the situation afterwards. They took the plate back and asked the head chef to taste it and they credited the remaining food that wasn't consumed. This is policy but does not accomplish anything. First, they did not inform us of the decision. Second, I would prefer they didn't credit anything if they're not crediting the entire dish since it makes it seem like they are upset we complained by only crediting what was not eaten. For this price range ~$100 per person I would assume a higher bar. It's not the outcome that matters but how the guest feels after the experience. Was money happily spent should be the question they ask. I would have preferred an apology from the head chef. When I'm spending $100 per person I get best wishes from the waitstaff and a healthy pour of champagne for celebratory drinks on the house to start off the experience. This is common practice and expected. An extra dessert only after we ordered dessert falls flat and seems meaningless. It should have been delivered before we were asked if we wanted desserts. Offering after we ordered desserts makes me feel they wouldn't have given anything if we didn't spend money on desserts already. There was a possible step to save the service delivery when they were out of ice wine - comp the port - which wasn't done either. Many blunders with the service but I would go back - not for special occasions, though. Maybe just for business lunches - less personal experiences would be acceptable. Drinks were acceptable though and I would like to try their wine list.

The drink/cocktail list is vast, but we are not much of a cocktail drinker and not usually drink during lunch, but I saw Matcha Sharka being ordered a lot and the other seemingly popular drink was this lavender drink. If you are a cocktail drinker during lunch, do check them out. We ordered 4 shareable items: * Savoy Donuts - 5 stars - fluffy and yummy, not greasy at all * Focaccia w/ Meyer Lemon and Garlic Confit - 4.5 stars - wonderful texture, did not taste the garlic much but the lemon was really good add. * Grilled Beef and Pork Chipolata - 4 stars - I think the star was the dressing. The meat itself was just okay. * Rice Vermicelli Bowl - 4.5 stars - not sure why it is called a bowl when it was served more in a plate. This is the fusion take on the Vietnamese dish with different dressing. We selected the Galangal Pork, which I did not like as much compared to the usual Vietnamese ones with Lemon Grass. There is a choice to select Lemongrass chicken instead, so you might want to try that. The pork tasted "porky" despite it was thinly cut. I was hoping to try dessert, but we were full so we did not do that. Next time. The restaurant is nicely set, and you can select indoor or outdoor seating. We did make a reservation, but when we arrived there were plenty of tables available. Service was fine, we did not get the "is this your first time" greeting as I heard other tables got. But it was our first time.
