Had a wonderful dinner last Friday night - on a busy night and chose to dine at the bar. A little cramped but great service and we both had well prepared and tasteful meals. I had my favorite, Pistachio crusted chicken with mashed potatoes with my selected side of broccoli. My wife had a steak filet that was cooked perfectly rare and the wait staff waited for her to cut the steak to determine if it was right - it was perfect. She had carrot fries as a side along with a selected vegetable. Meal came with a mix of rolls and cornbread. We split a key lime pie for desert pie and it was one of the best . We frequently bring visitors and they are always pleased in the electric environment and mote them satisfied with their meal. In addition, my vegetarian daughter loves the food options. read more

Our first visit to the Williamsburg area and there are many restaurants to choose from. Even so, at a bit past 6 PM on a Monday their parking lot was almost full and there was a 25 minute wait, which turned out to be shorter than that for the 2 of us. This a lively and enlightening place, in a good way! It has extra good vibes and I sensed that it is a local favorite. The menu is original and diverse. We started with a beet salad and haddock red potato soup neither of which disappointed. My main course, a vegetarian spaghetti squash with a sun-dried tomato pesto sauce that was very tasty. Come here with my dad and 14 month old, 20-30 minute wait, ok fine. I walk to the bar and stood there for 15 minutes waiting for the bartender to even look at me. I had to ask for a menu, then wait more to try to order. A couple guys sat down at the bar after I was already waiting for 10 minutes, this guy bartender helps them, looks like they order. I tell him I want a drink, he whips up his finger then goes back to them. At that point I was so mad, waiting for 15 minutes then someone who sits down way after I've been there is the priority. I left but then my table was ready, I figured I'd give it another chance for the food. Everything was mediocre, not bad. I was expecting more from the food. I got the Father's Day special prime rib, was ok, I was underwhelmed (prime rib is my favorite so I think I'm a good judge) the creamed spinach was ok and so were the mashed potatoes. My dad got the pot roast which again was just ok, he got mashed potatoes with gravy (idk why mine didn't come with gravy) and the coleslaw which was actually tasty. I see the manager going around asking people how their experience was but for some reason didn't ask my table, wonder why. Overall I will not be returning, what an absolutely ridiculous experience. How rude of this bartender. After he threw the finger up at me I told him I was waiting for 15 minutes and how unacceptable it was helping others that sat after I was waiting and he just looked dumbfounded and said "excuse me" very upsetting experience. The food was amazing. I had the meatloaf with the tomato based sauce. It's good to see the tomato based sauce being served somewhere. I grew up with a tomato based topping for my meatloaf and it seems to be hard to find places that serve it. As far as taste, it was full of flavor and I'd give it an A+ for quality. Our server was attentive and was cognizant of our needs. I feel like we had great service during our meal. The atmosphere is quite comfortable in the volume of noise was just about right enough that you could talk to the people at your table without overhearing everything at the table next to you. The spacing of the tables was comfortable as well. The wait time was about 15 minutes. Parking is tight, very limited. There was a sign that so we could park next door so we took advantage of that. This is my third time eating here and we've always had great experiences. I had guests from out of town that I brought with me and they appreciated the quality of service and food as well as the relaxed ambience. Wow this was a pleasant surprise. I can see why the parking was overflowing and the place was packed. The food and bread were amazing and the staff were friendly. Ate and left no crumbs literally. We decided to go to Food for thought for dinner on a Sunday evening while visiting Williamsburg. To our surprise, the parking lot was full and we saw people waiting in front of the restaurant. It was a Sunday evening. I did not expect a crowded place at all. They told us that it would take 25 minutes to get a table, but we could also sit at the bar immediately . Since there were only two of us, we decided to just sit at the bar. After sitting the bread basket came quickly. Everything was warm and it went really well with the cold butter. For the main course, my boyfriend decided to go with a piece of salmon and two side dishes, steamed broccoli, and cream spinach. Everything tasted great. The salmon had nice taste and very fresh. Creamed spinach was really tasty, but it was probably more creamed than spinach. Ha ha. For me, I decided to go with a crab-a-Bella. A huge pile of crab meat on top of stuffed portobello., on a bed of mushroom rice. Very delicious. I typically don't order a dish like this since I try to eat on the healthier side, but I just had to try it. And it was definitely worth the calories. While we were eating the manager Edwin stopped by to say hi and to check whether the food was OK. We told him everything was great and he had a nice conversation with him. Turned out he moved here from California 21 years ago.. shout out to Edwin!! This is the couple from San Diego that you talked to on a Sunday evening! All in all , this is a great restaurant. We had put ourselves on their "call ahead" list for 5, but we didn't really need it as they had tables available. When you walk in, there are quotes from famous people in the wall as well as tableaux of famous inventors. If I were the owner I would replace some of both as the people aren't worth advertising imo. Our server came right away to take our drink orders and to explain the menu. I found that curious as all restaurants are the same. They hand you a menu, you choose a dish, they bring it, you pay. I am a little tired of bougie places trying to be different when they aren't. The menu is mostly comfort food. Pot roast, ribs, pork chops etc. My mother lives their crab cakes and I got said pot roast. Now, here is where I wish I had my camera. The pot roast is listed as "fork tender". It says nothing about being shredded beef...which it was. It was a little too salty for me to be honest. While it had a good flavor, a good pot roast includes carrots and potatoes usually. I did order the mashed, which were very creamy, but the beef was pretty much on its own. I ordered grilled zucchini as a side and to this moment I am wondering how they grilled away the flavor. Our server was very friendly. He was also very solicitous as if we were his only table. The prices are reasonable for this economy where everything is so bloody expensive. I am willing to try this place again as it is a favorite of my family, I just wasn't thrilled with my first impression. read more

I went here years ago with my parents so when I was there last week, I had to try it again. When I got there, there were many people waiting outside for a table and I was worried that I wouldn't get a seat. Luckily I was alone and was able to sit at the bar with no problem. This was an excellent lunch experience!! They get quite busy (even on weekdays) for lunch, so get there early! We went as a party of three... The service we received from Elena was great! She was very attentive and helpful. Their menu is insanely huge and loaded with so many great options! It was definitely hard to choose, so I just found something and went with it without second guessing other options. Their table bread was nice and fresh. The entrées were great! I opted for their Reunion which was a mixed of a slice of meatloaf and some of their pot roast. The meatloaf was amazing! Probably the best I've ever had from a restaurant! Many times when you get it from restaurants, it's dried and pretty basic in flavor, but this was great... tender... flavorful.... And so very tasty! Their pot roast was also spot-on perfect! The gravy on both was tasty too. Cole slaw and mashed potatoes turned out to be some excellent side dishes to get with this as well. I'd most definitely return and try more of their amazing menu! This is an amazing restaurant. From the thought-provoking quotes on the walls and articles about inventors, to our great waitress and fantastic food we couldn't have been more pleased. My husband ordered the lunch order ribs, the Upgrade side mac & cheese, and creamed spinach, while I ordered the cilantro lime chicken with beets and the mushroom rice. I wasn't sure about that mushroom rice, but it was flavorful and had a nice texture. The ribs my husband ordered were Literally fall off the bone and with a rich smokey flavor. I had a pretty good first time experience. I went with some friends on a week day, lunch time and we were seated right away. We drove from Richmond, I wanted to go because I have heard so much about food of thought and really wanted to try it. I don't eat most sea foods but my friends were excited about the seafood. They have been there before and loved it. First of all I love how the outside looked, I like the plants around the building, neat and green..lol. The inside was comfortable and cozy. Like I mentioned, it was a week day and lunch time but it was pretty packed. We called ahead before showing up to make sure of no long wait. The food was good, pricey but you do get a lot of food and is filling. My friends had sea food. I really enjoyed the complimentary rolls and cornbread. Our server was very nice and attentive, he suggested things that we tried in the menu. Also the manager came around to every table to say hi and ask about our experience. I was so happy to be with our neighbors today as we gather together for our monthly luncheons. I was so pleased that the menu was so much easier to peruse so I knew the lump crab caesar, which is listed in the main menu and not among the lunch specials, was what would be best today. Three ladies ordered the same meal, All American grilled cheese sandwiches..Our organizer had told us about how she dreamed about that meal, convincing the other three ladies to follow her. The other ladies, a total of fourteen this month, ordered croissant BLT, regular BLT, shrimp po boy described as spicy, short ribs, etc. I managed to grab a few photos before they disappeared into their tummies, understandably so because we had all looked at each other's meals. Salad for me, though the crab added delicious flavor and bonus, it had bacon. I thought I heard soft , polite sniggering about how much I want to lose weight. BUT then our generous organizer treated us to apple nachos with ice cream. I thought I would behave and have just one nacho, no ice cream; surrounded by oohs and how amazing the ice cream was especially with the nachos and real apple slices. Took another nacho with the ice cream, WOW, tasted just like an apple pie. I looked at the remaining ice cream and asked whether anyone else wanted it, to my relief, they said no so I gobbled down the rest. One of our neighbors pointed out that there was ice cream on their leftover dessert. Embarrassing for me, but that ice cream was very creamy. Bits of vanilla in it too. We arrived at 5:40 on a Monday, we were surprised to see the parking lot already full but we were easily able to park over at Ripleys per the sign. There were people waiting but no wait for two. We opted to sit at the bar & by 6:30 the bar was full. The drinks and food were absolutely amazing. They have a robust menu of drinks and food so there is sure to be something for everyone. I overheard a conversation about allergies and found the restaurant to be very responsive, knowledgeable and proactive. Richard served us at the bar and was attentive. I had the strawberrry lemon drop martini, da Vinci dippers (fried ravioli) and the steak salad. Each was so tasty- I would get all again. The Thai dish had a little spice but the kind that makes you want to keep going back for more. We opted for after dinner drinks, although the desserts sounded good. I Can Not Say Enough Good Things About This Establishment. Wish I could give a hundred stars. After the most minor mishap reserving a dinner for my husbands birthday, the restaurant went above and beyond rectifying the mixup. This was our first time here and everything from food, ambiance and service were impeccable. Staff were very knowledgeable, quick and super friendly. Tyler C was our server he was exceptional, attentive, friendly, and made the whole meal even more enjoyable. I would absolutely request him every time I come back.The manager, Emily, also made a great impression by stopping by every table to make sure everything was up to standard, which I really appreciated. I ordered the vegan Reuben sandwich, and it was really delicious full of flavor and perfectly prepared. My man got the shrimp po' boy and said it was one of the best he's ever had! The best bite of my trip to Williamsburg. I found this place randomly on social media while looking up places to eat on vacation. It also was right down the street from my hotel so that was a win. The place has a good amount of parking and lots of visitors. I made a reservation two weeks before by calling the restaurant so I had no wait. Loved that option. Food was awesome- crab cakes were cooked to perfection. All crab hardly any filler. The steak was awesome as well. The chicken on my hubs sandwich was a little overcooked but had a great flavor. The biscuits they bring out before the start were delicious. Waitress got us what we needed promptly even with several tables. The only thing that stuck out to me because I am very observant was that the manager on my visit stopped by the table on the left of me and the right of me to check on how their meals where and some small chat with one table. She never even looked our direction to check on our table or the table to my far right. Maybe I jumped to conclusion but this threw me off. Overall food and my server were great. read more
