I often drive an extra 2-3 miles to pass 2 Food Lion locations within one mile of my house. Several former employees that worked at the Food Lion at the Burlington Shopping Center now work at the Volvo location. The reason I go out of my way to ship at Volvo is due to staff. Each and every cashier I have dealt with has a very good personality and actually looks you in the eyes and speaks to you. They never act like you are inconveniencing them. They take care with your groceries and actually place the bags in your cart. The shelves are stocked and the meat and produce are stocked well. I recently stopped by the Food Lion located just off Greenbrier Parkway near Volvo Parkway in the heart of Chesapeake. The store is clean and well stocked. They have a good produce section with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables available. They have a decent meat and fish section as well. read more

This store is always neat and clean with well stocked shelves. The produce section always has a nice selection of great quality fresh fruits and vegetables. Meat and seafood are always high quality as well. I appreciate that I can always find the price of an item clearly marked. Don't be afraid to buy their store brands, they are generally of similar quality to national brands. I have never been disappointed with a purchase here. I had made a few purchases here not long ago and paid with it with a credit card belonging to a non profit I volunteer for. I ended up losing the receipt which could spell trouble with our accounting department. I'm going to assume that the person that assisted me, Victoria, was the manager on shift. I realize chasing after a lost receipt because some goofball lost it goes beyond her duties. I couldn't have appreciated her helping me enough. But what really stood out was while I was waiting for Victoria, every cashier (3 total) that saw me waiting at customer service, at some point, walked over to ask me if I needed assistance. Ahhhh Food Lion. You live just across the street from Harris Teeter and no one gives you the time of day... I can't say why. You have sales, nice people, your are kinda well lit. Could it be that your strip mall was built before the "other" one??? How about we just say that and blame it on the strip mall. I shop here, I also shop at other supermarkets... each for different items. Lets face it some people have better deals on certain things. Stop being snobby and spread your wings a little. "The Good" - The people are great and friendly, the best reason to support anyplace. - I am a fan of the fruit and veggie section. - Rotisserie Chicken - when a certain supermarket runs out at three because they do not know how to make more than four chickens this place has them when people actually get off of work. - Latino section. Jarritos soda, brand names that you would not see in any other location. By the way, if you have never had Jarritos soda, try it. Its made in Mexico, which means its made with real sugar... and tastes like soda should, remember drink responsibly. - Decent deals in the weekly circular. "The Meh" - The lack of a fish section. Granted they have a small freezer case with fish in it but no fresh fish counter. "The Bad" - I am not a fan of their checkouts They are set up weird and share an aisle. Sometimes you get people that cut in line, non-intentionally, just because they have no idea which line they were in. read more

This is my local grocery store and have been going here ever since early I was a child. So I basically memorized each aisle. When I go there is already know which aisle to go to, that's why I'm always fast in checking out. They have great deals, plus if you have their MVP (FREE you can sign up for one) even more greater deals and save money! Or you can also scan your MVP card at their coupon kiosk for more coupon savings! You should check their shrimp, sometimes it's Buy 1 Get 1, just saying. They don't always have alot of registers open at a time, usually about 1-3 registers are open. But it's not walmart, so they are good. Love my local grocery store, it sometimes better than going to Superstore. read more

This is my go to grocery store for quick pick ups. It's close to where I live and has everything I need. Usually greeted as you walk in, if not busy. Very friendly staff, and also helpful if you can't find something you need. Great grocery store, very organized and clean. Each aisle has labels to find what you want and need... been coming here since I was little, so basically memorized each aisle already. Prices are pretty decent, I love using my MVP card for there MVP perks. Also, they have this machine right by the door where you can scan your card and it prints more coupons for you. Love saving money is a plus! Definitely recommend coming here, compared to a busy and crowded Wal-Mart. It's an in and out type of grocery store, plus I love supporting our local grocery store! read more

Older store with what appeared to be some stocking challenges as evidenced by several empty shelves. Can't sell something that's not visible to the customer. Fortunately, I wasn't only there for the basics, which could be found with relative ease with the exception of the water bottles, which were located on aisle 1 by the wine section. Odd. The irony here is that a manager-looking Food Lion employee made his rounds through the aisles with a portable computer making note of several items on the shelves. The store is rather small, not as much variety as some other supercenters but for some, in a hurry especially, that may actually be a good thing. The produce seems pretty decent but each time I've purchased it over the last couple of weeks it's spoiled right away so I'd recommend not buying produce here. This place is right beside my gym so I've been going here a lot while I'm here in Virginia Beach on business and one thing I will say I like about this store is the help are all friendly. The cashier even remembered me telling her about my being here on business from one week to the next, which is cool. All in all this place is A-OK and considering it's location it's not a bad place to pick up some low priced items (and their prices are really good here IMO).. read more

I am shopping in this shop for few months now. It is smaller than others of this chain but fairly stocked. Point of strength: the employees, particularly some cashiers who are very friendly and make you feel very comfortable. Point of weakness: one of the managers. I told him that I had noticed for quite some time many dead flies on the cheese packages. He seemed annoyed, didn't thank me or even excuse the lack of igiene and barely made eye contact.
