I found myself in Bed Stuy, original mission buying doughnuts for a Saturday evening get together. Of course, one of my favorite doughnuts shop, Fan Fan, was where I was going to. However, I was craving a small bite on a beautiful sunny afternoon. I stumbled upon this cute corner cafe. Molina & Cafe was the name on the awning and I Yelped it to see what kind of food and I couldn't find it. Then I Googled it and the address For All Things Good popped up. Now I was intrigued. I climbed the steps inside and found myself in a cozy spot with smiling employees. I took a look at the drink menu on the wall and my eye immediately settled on Horchata. That's it! I was craving that and a side of Totopos with salsa. I went to grab a table outside and in five minutes my snack arrived. The iced Horchata was heaven in a glass: just the right balance of sweetness to wash down the spicy kick from the salsa. The totopos were absolutely scrumptious.. authentic and fresh. If I had a bigger appetite I would have ordered mucho tacos. But there will be a next time because I'm always in a Franklin Avenue state of mind. I ordered two tacos here to spend some time with a friend who I hadn't seen in a long time. The cashier got my order completely wrong, but I was so wrapped up in the conversation I didn't really realize until I'd eaten one. (I'd had few options as a vegetarian so the "vegetarian option" I was given didn't register as wrong until it was almost too late.) I returned the other taco and asked if they could just charge me the difference (in *addition* to what I already paid) and give me what I actually ordered. The cashier refused to do this and walked away from me.  The taco I had was pretty terrible so I insisted something be done (any good restaurant would fix the issue right away and not even charge extra).  The cashier finally offered to give me one of the tacos I originally ordered (remember, originally the order was for 2) and charged me $4 to add avocado to it.  So, I ended up paying almost $15 for a terrible taco I didn't order and one decent taco that I did order.  Never again. read more

I got their Breakfast Gordita and an iced horchata. The Gordita has a thick tortilla stuffed with black beans, cheese, egg, salsa habanero, cilantro, so it's super flavorful. The tortilla was pretty hard to cut and it made the insides spill out every time I pressed on it, so it's not the easiest to eat. It was a bit harder than I was expecting and I wish it had been spicer but that being said everything was fresh and light, even for a breakfast sandwich. Was so excited to try this place out! It was a nice day out last Sunday and there were plenty of outdoor seating which was nice. We ordered the tetela trio, breakfast Gordita and a dirty horchata. The tetela trio portion size for $14 was pretty small - and of the three only one of the had flavor (the cheese one). My partner had the Gordita and expected more depth and portion. He also had the dirty horchata but said it was too sweet. All in all, it was a quick spot to grab a bite. We noticed even when we gave a tip we had to buss back our plates. Guacamole is chunky - would have preferred more salt and spicy to kick it up a notch. The tortilla chips are grainy, but fine with the guacamole. For the entree - a layering of avocado, beans, cheese, and eggs over a fresh tortilla. Loved the ingredients on top, but the tortilla again had that grainy texture and earthy flavor. A true gem, and possibly the coolest place I've eaten at in the past year. For All Things Good is a molino, restaurant, cafe, bar, community hangout, and education center rolled into one. Walk down the stairs and open the door into a small, cozy dining area. The bar and kitchen were open and practically right next to some of the tables. There is also some outdoor seating available currently. We ordered the tetela trio, oxacan quesadilla, squash blossom quesadilla, and the avocado and herb memela. The tetelas were nice starters, crunchy on the outside with the hefty warmth of the masa from the heirloom corn shining through. They really do feel like the perfect handheld food. The quesadillas were excellent as well. I really felt the squash blossom quesadilla is truly special and quite the opposite of "Americanized" image of the quesadilla. The tortilla had great texture and flavor, which was not disrupted by the mild and rich cheese and the delicate flavor of the squash blossom. I am a sucker for herbs and avocado, so the memela was also perfect. The spice was just biting enough to bring out but not kill the flavor of the ingredients. We had drinks from the coffee bar. My cortado was flavorful and great against the chilly weather. If the weather had been nicer, I would have ordered the horchata for sure. My friends bought tortilla to bring home with them. They pressed and made them right there on the spot, so heads up if you're ordering some to take home with you, as it takes a little time for the restaurant to prepare them for you! (And do order some and don't spend the next day in regret, like I am doing right now). The thing that makes this place truly special is the amount of care and love that is put into the craft and the community that the food represents. They allow other people to come in and use the molino to preserve and advance the creation of masa. The outdoor seating area has planter boxes lined with the burlap sacks that has the names of the families who grew the heirloom corn. The owners and staff look truly happy to see people enjoy the food, asking about your experiences in genuine curiosity. Their menu is flexible to serve the community of Bed-Stuy but also masterfully crafted to teach the patrons about sustainable farming practices. For All Things Good saw the incongruity between Mexican food in the states and the Mexican food from Mexico, and wants to revolutionize the way many of us think about the tortilla. There is a discernible difference between the tortillas made in house at FATG vs. the ones I've had from most Mexican eateries I've visited in NY, so I'll credit them with opening my eyes to something better than what they call the wonderbread of tortillas. It's particularly impressive that they use a variety of heirloom corns to produce their masa, and you can see the unique varieties just in the different colors of the tortillas used in their tetelas and tlayuditas, both of which I ordered and enjoyed quite a bit, both for the learning opportunity and the flavors. I'm new to Oaxacan food, so the names of most dishes and sections of the menu were completely new to me. I didn't know what a volcan, tlayudita, or tetela were, so I had no expectations for what the dishes would be like-- a novel experience for me. The menu didn't have any descriptions, and I didn't have the benefit of looking up photos on Yelp or IG since the business was so new when I visited. It didn't feel right to hold up the long line by asking the folks at the restaurant what each and every dish was. Ignore the mild annoyance you detect in everything I just wrote and let's just focus on how I embraced the unknown as an adventure, and was rewarded. The food was pretty tasty! The tetela trio allowed me to try three different flavors of these triangle shaped tortilla pockets with different fillings. My frame of reference for something like this is a samosa, but these were way earthier. The hibiscus flavor was sweet and floral, the black bean and lime was heftier and more savory, but my favorite of the three was the one with chihuahua cheese. Each was paired with a small dollop of a different salsa. I highly recommend the memela, topped with a fried egg and incredibly fresh slices of avocado. The chili oil and melted cheese punched up every bite. The name of the game here at For All Things Good is fresh. It's clear the focus is on the quality of each ingredient, and though the flavors were quite subtle in everything I tried, it gave me an appreciation for food that comes straight from the earth-- the opposite of processed. Because of this I didn't mind shelling out more for each small portion. It was a novel experience that I hope becomes less novel in the near future. read more

I finally made it out for an outdoor lunch there last month, bundled up and craving fresh tortillas and flavorful, vegetarian-friendly Oaxacan food. It did not disappoint. Highlight of brunch was the Dirty Lachada, includes 2 shots espresso and horchata latte, yummy! We ordered guacamole and chips with chili oil which was ok, the extra we paid for the chili oil was not really necessary but we ended up using it on our other dishes like the tepela trio and breakfast tlayudita. The trio was good, I only like 2 of 3, esp the yellow one with gooey cheese inside. The other piece was basically refried beans filling, kind of underwhelming for the price. Had high hopes for the Breakfast Tlayudita, which was basically 1 big tostada very similar to Indian papad, and black bean smeared with an egg, avocado, and Oaxaca cheese. Altogether with tip, food totaled $50 for 2 which was a bit pricey for what we got, but we enjoyed the good vibes and cactuses galore. Few indoor tables plus outdoor seating available. read more

For some reason, the first word that comes to mind about this restaurant is real. The food, the drinks, and the people all are mindful and genuine. The restaurant has counter service, so you order at the counter and then a serve bring you your food once it's ready. They have a few indoor table and twice to three times as many tables outside. Most of the tables outside are covered and heated. I had a few different mezcals. The bartender recommended a couple mezcals from Rey Campero with agaves that I was unfamiliar with. Both were solid recommendations. I also had a mezcal from Bozal as I was looking for a smokey and earthy options. They had a great variety and the menu was well organized making it very approachable. We tried a bunch of different items for food. I was very content after eating. I didn't feel sluggish even thought we shared quite a bit. We shared the Rajas & Queso Tetala, the Flor de Calabaza Quesadilla, the Hongas de Mezcal Volcane, the Choriflor & Papas Taco, and the Frijoles & Aguacate Sopes. If you don't know what most of that means, then don't worry. The bartender will help translate and explain items. I was pretty clueless when reading the menu. Everything was great. Interestingly, it was less liquidy and saucy then most Mexican food. They really allowed the masa vessels and the ingredients to stand out. It's bold yet it worked. I think the Tetala was my favorite but I'd recommend any of the items. read more

We came and did the full on sitdown experience this time and ordered a lot -- tetelas, a sope, a quesadilla, a taco, a volcane, chips with guac, the mango with chile, and their incredible flautas, which come with guac and salsa macha. Their masa really is amazing, although I will say I haven't always been blown away by how they top it. I think our favorite this time was the quesadilla, which came with a delicious dipping sauce. I also love sopes in general, and I thought the bean and cheese tetela was delicious. But the best bites of the night were on the flautas, which were just perfect. Trying to squeeze in some last local restaurants before moving day, and we had to hit up For All Things Good! I love everything about this place--the vibe cannot be matched and the food lives up to it! We arrived around 11am for brunch and there were lots of sidewalk tables open, although the 4 covered tables were taken. We ordered the Huevos en Camisa Rancheros, Breakfast Tlayudita (eggs scrambled), and a Black Bean and Lime Tetela, plus Horchata. Everything was impeccable and a fantastic combo of flavors and textures. I think I'm obsessed with Oaxacan cheese... The Tetela was a bit bland, but I was already so full from the Tlayudita that it didn't really matter. My only complaints were that the paper straw fell apart so quickly (highly recommend swapping out for marine biodegradable straws that are more like plastic) and the eco-friendly cutlery was impossible to cut the crunchy tortilla with. 100% here for saving the planet, but maybe get some more functional knives? People seem to love this place, but personally, I felt it was overrated. I suppose I'm in the minority here. The food was good but also somewhat bland, and portions were relatively small. The squash blossom quesadilla came with two small "blossoms" which really makes it pointless, maybe it was a fluke. We left hungry, despite ordering a decent amount of items, and ended up grabbing more food elsewhere. Major kudos that everything is made in house seemingly from scratch, and you can see all of it being made. Good amount of outdoor seating. They also have a coffee setup and alcoholic drinks available. I've heard their brunch is good but haven't tried it yet, planning to.
