Every bite had the proper ratio of pastor meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and jalapenos; the bread is just thin enough to make the rest of the ingredients the stars of the show. 2) Tostadas Here's to the open-face sandwich of tacos; if it's not the torta, this is the other way to go. I recommend paying the extra 50 cents for avocados because that will bind all the components together. If I had to nitpick, maybe this isn't the most takeout-friendly of options. 3) Service I was greeted by a nice lady with a welcoming energy. While fulfilling orders from both the front counter and the phone that's seems to be always ringing, they seem to know how to run the place efficiently and effectively (as the name suggests). Stopped by for lunch mid-day, the restaurant is an extremely casual location - made to pick up and go. They also sell bottled drinks like Arizona. They have two taco sizes, I ordered two of the larger size. The goat taco was delicious and I'd probably stop by again if I'm nearby don't want to venture off for a taco. Pricey and not what I expected. I am also from Texas so Mexico is across the border and was always easy to get. The guacamole was to die for! The quesadilla was not. I'm not sure if it tasted old, like the chicken was pre cooked a day before but I couldn't eat it at all. I threw it away. However the guacamole was so yummy!!!! We stopped in for a chipotle wet (red sauce) burrito, two tacos (fish and pork), chips and salsa, and a cheese quesadilla. I had the burrito, which was fantastic. (I can't wait to eat it again). My wife had the tacos - loved the pork (carnitas), didn't prefer the fish - but only because she likes her fish tacos breaded, and the kids loved the quesadillas. Everyone loved the chips! They do a massive selection of fillings including some fun ones like goat and beef tongue! These tacos are biggo ones; I was plenty full after 3. I've tried the al pastor, spicy pork and carnitas tacos from here. They do corn tortillas and fill the tacos up. The meat was a little dry but for the price and variety I'm very impressed. I liked the spicy pork the best of the ones I've tried. I've also had the breakfast burritos before and it hits the spot (although I tend to douse mine with Tabasco when I get home). I LOVE THIS PLACE! Been coming here for years since college was nearby, and it's been my favorite comfort food (especially after exams). Honestly at first I was quite skeptical of ever entering, but I would always pass by because I went to Absolute Coffee so often, I thought I may as well! And it's been one of the greatest food decisions of my life! I usually snack on a chorizo tostada and add extra avocado on top. There's usually a bit of a wait (~5-10 minutes), but once you get it it's just like wow, this is heaven! It's a mountain of fatty goodness on top of a crispy tortilla shell. It's loaded with chorizo and spicy oil, some bean paste I think, a bunch of sprinkled cheese and cream on top with the avocado. The process of eating it is pretty messy but your stomach will appreciate it. Super yummy and I don't think any other place I've been to can top their chorizo tostada. I've tried their tacos, torta and burrito bowls, and agree with others that the torta isn't very amazing, but everything else is great, though the chorizo tostada really tops all for me! Also love that it's a local, family owned establishment - the lady and gentleman at the front are always very kind. The back has more space to eat if you need it too. Note that prices have gone up slightly too, but it's understandable considering the area and that chorizo tostada that is practically a meal for me has still been under $5 -- score! read more

So hubby and I were in the neighborhood and he um... Torta thought it would be a swell idea to stop here for lunch. He was hangry and not in the mood to wait while I angsted over other possible options. If I ever wanted to win the proverbial war, I realized this was not a battle worth fighting, so Fast & Fresh Burrito Deli it was. Now, to back up for a second, this used to be an occasional go-to for us back in the day. But it had been a looong while since we'd eaten here and sure, I was Torta curious to find out if it was still good: Anyway, would you believe I wound up getting a Torta? Well, I did; with spicy pork, aka enchilada. And I don't know... the bread was a bit dry and probably bordering on stale. And all I could taste was meat, which just wasn't special enough to carry the whole sandwich. To me, a well-made Torta is all about layers of flavor, and I just wasn't feelin' it with this. From what I remember, the Tortas here used to run around $5 or maybe $6 and for that price, I can be a whole lot more forgiving. But they've inched up to $9 now, and more $ = higher expectations. On the plus side, this was big enough for me to save half to take home to the kid, who fwiw, also found the sandwich to be pretty 'meh,' without any prompting from Mama. That's my boy. Hubby got a 'Burrito Bowl' for $9.50, which I think is a newer thing. He enjoyed it well enough, but not so much that he feels compelled to ever eat one again. In the 'every bit as awesome as I remember' category, the backyard is happily still the same. I love how this otherwise random-seeming deli opens up to such a charming, little outdoor space. Since I wouldn't protest *too* much about returning here to dine 'al fresco,' when spring hits, am going with 3 stars. But ultimately, am Torta disappointed. This has become my everyday place to eat and I love everything about it. The service is always fast when I order. The horchata drink is as authentic as it can get. I loved the flautas filled with potato-or fried tacos not sure how they have it on the menu.The burrito is huge but oh so good. I love looking at the buffet table and just picking out something to try next. The Jamaica drink was great. Coffee and tea for breakfast is good too. They have a rack of chips which is awesome because sometimes I need an extra snack. They had corn bread muffins one morning and Mexican bread, conchas, I haven't tried the conchas but they look good. This is my favorite place to get mexican food in all of NYC! This place seems like your average deli from the outside but on the inside they make some of the best Mexican food in New York. I live in Manhattan but whenever I am in Brooklyn I make it a point to stop by here. I usually get tacos or tostadas. The tacos always come served on two corn tortillas. I've tried pretty much all of their meats and they are all delicious. Their Carnitas is always perfectly tender and tasty. The tostada shells stay crispy and somehow hold up all of the toppings that they put on them. My one recommendation if you go is get a chorizo tostada. The chicken mole burrito uses chicken leg meat instead of breast (so said on menu) I also opted out of sour cream, but yes to everything else including cheese! I like how the mole isn't overbearing but still has that small kick to it. It's a great way to try Mexican items that you don't normally find around this area of Brooklyn, like pancita "Mexican tripe soup" or fresh tamales (chicken, pork, cheese). The burrito is still warm in my belly as I write this review, so I think I can provide a fair assessment of how it is. I've been on a quest to find a SoCal burrito in NYC. So far, all the recommendations I've received haven't hit the mark -- until now. This is the most authentic San Diego-style burrito I've had since moving to the East Coast. If you're a Californian, you'll feel right at home at this hole-in-the-wall spot. My recommendation is the mole burrito, but the tort as look really good too. The reason I docked a star? While I'm surprised that a Mexican deli like this can still exist in such a gentrified section of Brooklyn, I'm not at all surprised that they had to raise their prices. I stopped in this morning, en route to JFK, & ordered a 'Mexican Breakfast' of Huevos Rancheros. While it was tasty, I don't eat out of styrofoam (on behalf of Planet Earth), & $8 is a little on the pricey side for a meal like this. Come here for the cheap tacos. Stay for the backyard. Tacos are about $2.50-$3 apiece. Get the chorizo or the chivo (goat) tacos. You can skip the pork ones. Their pastor isn't actually al pastor (no spit in sight), and the enchilada (spicy pork) was just okay. The tortillas seemed a bit stale to me. And they're pretty barebones when it comes to condiments (there was very, very crusty bottle of Valentina hot sauce on the counter). Service is a bit slow. I watched a woman walk in to buy some chips and get ignored by the staff. She even called at them, and they just told her to wait. Tacos took awhile to make too. But oh, the backyard. A wonderful place to be when the weather's nice. It looked like they had just started setting up for the summer and futbol season. There was a Mexican flag that still had creases from being in a package, and there were employees putting up an off-brand flat screen TV. I imagine it'd be a fun place to catch a game and eat a couple of tacos. They're not officially BYOB, but if you ask nicely and pour your beers into a paper cup...
