The staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and made us feel welcome without being overbearing. The dining room has a warm, elegant atmosphere that's ideal for date nights, anniversaries, business dinners, or any special occasion. While it's definitely a premium dining experience, the exceptional food, excellent service, and refined ambiance make it well worth the visit. Came here last night after seeing The Sound of Music at Broadway San Jose, celebrating a new job and life in general. We did not hold back. The Westholme Wagyu was the showstopper -- that filet with the au gratin potatoes and cremini mushrooms is worth every penny of the occasion you invent to justify it. The Steak Diane was right there with it; the brandy-mushroom cream sauce is the kind of thing you keep going back to with a spoon after the steak is gone. Mongolian Beef was excellent too -- the shaved filet with the garlic chips and slaw had a nice bit of brightness against everything else. And the lobster mac and cheese. I don't need to explain the lobster mac and cheese. Then we ordered four desserts. Yes, four. For two people. The chocolate decadence, the butter cake, the gluten-free torte, and an affogato. No regrets. The butter cake with the strawberries was my favorite, but I was outvoted at least once. One of my new favorite restaurants! Made a reservation on a Thursday so we didn't have to worry about a wait. We were seated right away, and immediately served water and provided a cocktail list. My partner and I were in no hurry and Tony, our amazing server, understood the assignment. Ben also frequently came by to check in and the way they collaborated was so smooth. On to the food: -manresa bread, delicious but be prepared to chew. The lavender salted butter was a great pairing. -pear Gorgonzola salad, sooooo good. Perfectly seasoned and nice punch from the cheese -mushroom ravioli, these were little flavor pockets and the Marsala sauce was amazing -split sides of fried green beans and elote creamed corn, everything we ate was so good but these were next level -my partner loved his French onion soup! It came out nice and hot too! He also ordered the prime rib plate and really enjoyed it -banana fosters cheesecake, not overly sweet or rich. A great choice! Having lived in the area now for a few years, I've been meaning to try out Forbes Mill Steakhouse. Unfortunately, Black Friday presented itself with that opportunity when we had reservations at Mastro's. That was the same day as the incident at Valley Fair which required us to change our dining plans in very short order. We were all pleased that I was able to make a reservation for that same evening, while we were in the car driving away from the mall. The interior of Forbes Mill is nice enough -- white table cloths, light walls, dark wood rafters, dark booth seating. There isn't anything wrong with the decor, but nothing really stood out as special either. And this is just kind of how the whole dining experience at a Forbes Mill was for us. Our server was perfectly fine - the only minor hiccup was when I ordered a Kit Royale, brought me a cocktail from the menu that had a similar sounding name. To his credit, it was corrected quickly without issue. For our meals, we all had steak, naturally. I went with the 6 oz filet, along with a chimichurri sauce and baked potato. I had hoped they had fries because all the other sides were made with dairy, except for the brussel sprouts, which I didn't really want. But alas, I had to opt for the baked potato, which actually worked out just fine with the chimichurri sauce. Everything was good, solid. But I wasn't wowed. My husband and the kiddo went with the ribeye and the New York strip with peppercorn sauce and mashed potatoes. And they felt similarly- everything was perfectly good. There were some parts of the filet mignon that were a bit on the well side, but still soft because of the cut of meat. Crab cakes were very good! We wished there was more! It came in 2 patties with sauce and pineapple bits. Mashed potatoes were creamy. Brussel sprouts were a bit under seasoned as well, thr bacon bits helped. oh... i so wanted to like this place, it looked so promising on yelp but unfortunately it just did not live up to expectations. Came here for dinner and our server was MIA half the time, took our drink orders and just disappeared, we finally noticed he was just chatting it up with a table of regulars while we were left waiting to place our order. We finally go our orders in and he just literally disappeared for the rest of dinner too after delivering our food, took forever to get our check as well. The creamed spinach was overly salty while having a sour taste (all of us noticed it, really weird) the mashed potatoes were ok but were not as creamy or buttery as expected, the steak was cook well temp wise but the sear was not done enough leaving a mushier exterior, steak was also underseasoned. We ordered the french onion soup (good quality with enough ingredients), braised short ribs (really good with soft meat, within a pool of mashed potatoes and a side of broccolini that all tasted good, maybe less sauce would have been nice however), blackened ribeye, and sides of bread with yummy butter, au gratin potatoes that were prob my favorite dish apart from the meat, and brussels sprouts with bacon. Incredible all around!! We were a party of four and ordered filets and prime ribs Oscar style. Steaks were deliciously juicy and the sides were chefs kiss. My filet was not evenly cooked (some of it was more rare than medium rare), but I didn't care because I had such a great experience here. The ambiance was excellent and the service was amazing. I wanted to cry at the table. We have been going here for so long and always loved the food. The food has completely gone downhill since our last visit. The food used to have amazing flavor. The sauteed spinach used to have slivered almonds and rich flavor from the browned butter. Now it's like boiled spinach that had some butter tossed on it. No time and effort is put into preparring or seasoning to make this enjoyable. The au gratin potatoes used to be so creamy and tender, cooked perfectly. Now it's lacking flavor and there was no actual sauce. It was potatoes in a oil puddle. I guess the sauce split" what little there was" and the oil was all separated making a bath for flavorless potatoes to swim in. The mushrooms used to be these tiny button mushrooms also prepared perfectly and full of flavor. Now they are chopped up mushroom pieces with mediocre flavor. It was the only side we actually ate any of. My ribeye was not a ribeye. It had no fat or marbling. It was more like a strip steak cooked medium well in half and well done in the other half. It was interesting because I ordered it medium. I miss the ribeyes they used to have here. I got the Cabernet demi glaze to go with my steak like I usually do. I'm not sure what kind of sauce I was brought but it was thick like BBQ sauce and tastes like nothing I've ever had. The flavor was similar something burnt with chemical aftertaste. It was definitely not a demi glaze. There is a new chef. I'm sure he's trying hard but the truth is this place is no where near the level it used to be at all. My friend met one of the owners, Darren, at our gym, who told her they started doing jazz musicians on Thursday nights@6:30 pm in the bar. I met up with her, and she introduced me to the brothers that own Forbes and Double D's, Darren & Dean. They were very friendly and fun to talk to, while we tried some drinks. My friend was doing tequila shots and I tried the Mai Tai, which I loved. I'm a rum lover, but Dean had me try a sip of his Paloma. He said it's usually with tequila, but their bartender makes it with vodka. It was okay, but although I enjoy vodka, I was glad I got the Mai Tai. My friend got us a table near the jazz musician, but thankfully, it wasn't too loud. Everyone near us was super kind, fun, and easy to talk to. My friend and I shared several appetizers as our meal. We enjoyed the service. Our server, Savanna, was attentive m, helpful, and genuinely kind. We thoroughly enjoyed the warm rolls, Sesame ahi tuna, & blackened scampi with mashed potatoes. Things were pretty chill at this time but definitely got a lot more busier later on, so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation or coming in early. Our waiter made great conversation and made us feel at home. We actually ordered the special that wasn't on the menu that he told us about (it was a whiskey dry aged ribeye) and it was quite honestly the best steak I've had in a while. We got a small whiskey sample on the house that went with the steak and it made all the difference. Super aromatic and unique, I've never had anything quite like it anywhere else! Another standout for me were the ladies' accommodations in the restrooms with complementary tampons, hair ties, and other amenities. It's a small detail but it made all the difference in my experience here. Even michelin star restaurants are not this well-accommodated, so I highly appreciate this attention to detail. It just took me a while to put into words just how wonderful our experience was; because it was just that WONDERFUL! Our waiter (I'm so sorry that I can't remember his name) was fabulous. Our party of 4 all ordered the surf and turf (filet with lobster tail) entree; and let me tell you, that's one meal I will never forget. Outstanding; everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly! Another detail that we noted was the great music that was played throughout dinner. I should have asked them for the playlist because it was that good! I really enjoy dining at smaller mom & pop restaurants as opposed to larger chains so I was really excited about this restaurant and was hoping to add it to our rotation of restaurants we frequent. Sadly, with so many better steakhouses in the area, I don't think I will return. For starters, it took over 10 minutes for our server to even come greet us. It also took some time for us to receive our waters due to the miscommunication the server had with the back server. My partner and I shared the oysters Rockefeller, which was delicious. The perfect blend of creamy and mildy briny. The oysters were plump and juicy. I ordered a ribeye while my partner had the New York strip. Both of our steaks came out overcooked. We asked for medium rare but received medium well. I wanted to ask for steak sauce but our server didn't even come to check up on us after we received our steaks. She spent the majority of our visit preoccupied with the table of regulars sitting next to us. While I understand that regular diners deserve to receive extra attention and special service, I don't think it is acceptable for the server to completely neglect first time diners. Strawberry Salad - Salad was well dressed and delicious. Loved the strawberries and the cheese abundance. Side of Mac & Cheese - Good portion to share. The mac & cheese was creamy and decadent. Side of Mashed Potatoes - These were good, pretty standard. Mushroom Ravioli - This was good, though I wish it came with more ravioli. The spinach and mushrooms accompanying the raviolis were excellent. My friend also ordered the filet mignon for himself and enjoyed it. For dessert, we were given a little vanilla cake for our anniversary. We also ordered the chocolate lava cake. Both desserts were pretty good. Service: Service was good and friendly. Our server was friendly and checked in on us every so often. The timing of the courses was good. Everything came out as expected. Had an anniversary dinner here and would absolutely recommend this restaurant ESPECIALLY for a special occasion. Service was amazing. Room is dim and cool but outdoor seating is also nice if weather is good. Food was perfectly spread and came out fresh and hot. All of the food was spectacular. I got the short ribs which were good! The mashed potatoes were my favorite as well as the side of mac n cheese we got. My orange creamsicle cocktail was tasty! The others in my group got the chicken, steak Diane and filet. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Service was pretty fast and decent. Only problem was when we ordered a side of bearnaise sauce when our food came and the sauce didn't come until we were almost done eating. (We love bearnaise sauce but this one was different and not a favorite). We ate outside which was nice. They have heaters outside to stay warm. read more

We went for Mother's Day and the service was exceptional, especially considering the Day. The food was excellent. We had a ribeye, filet and the New York. All 3 were cooked perfect and the sides we exactly what was needed to accent the meal. You can not ask for a better ambiance as they seem to have decorated to cancel some of the noise. Came for dinner on NYE. The vibes were good, hostess was friendly and welcoming, and it was a cozy energy to ring in 2025. We ordered the French onion soup and Caesar salad to start. Both full of flavor, and having the actual anchovy in the salad was different and delicious. Breads were warm and fluffy, too! I ordered the ribeye with truffle butter and a lobster tail. Steak and lobster just melted at first bite; I loved it! My partner ordered the center cut filet with scallops and it came with this delicious black jasmine rice in, what I think, as a curry sauce. He enjoyed his plate as well, and the rice was a good taste test for me. We also did a split side of mac and cheese and the au gratin. Perfect sizes for the two of us to share, and both were so good, creamy and cheesy. We finished with the chocolate cake with vanilla gelato. So decadent and creamy; I'd buy a gallon of that gelato! I read that bread was complimentary, but it isn't anymore. We ordered the Artisan bread, French onion soup, a ribeye (rare), a bone-in ribeye (medium-rare), and 2 sides: baked potato and mac and cheese. The bread was toasted nicely, the rolls had a nice crust and crunch to it, served w/ softened butter. The French onion soup was irresistibly sweet and a slight nuttiness to the gruyere. The caramelized onions were perfect. Our steaks were served wrongfully. I ordered the boneless ribeye but was given the bone-in. When had both taken a bite out of it before realizing it was the wrong steak we were given. Other than that mishap, our meal went very smoothly. Our server checked in on us several times. He sold me on the mac and cheese. It was creamy and magically delicious. I felt like a kid eating it. We were full and was boxing some of it home, but I could not help myself, so I ordered a dessert to take home. Thanks to our server's recommendation, I ordered the gluten-free chocolate torte w/o the raspberry coulis. It was devoured a few hours later. It was dense and so rich. I loved every bite! The house made whipped cream was a great way to top the dessert along w/ the chocolate sauce. Parking is easy on a Friday if you go before 5:30PM. Anything after 7PM, good luck!
