It pains me to be changing my review but after multiple visits I have no choice. Unfortunately the quality here is now lacking. They are always extremely stingy with the Cheese Wiz, which is the best part of the sandwich. The bun always seems to be right on the cusp of turning stale. And the fries have that taste of being cooked in old oil that needs to be changed out. I wish I could say differently but this has been the case every time I visit now. Last night we decided we'd try a new Philly Cheesesteak place than our usual spot in Mesa. The reviews were pretty good so I thought "Why not?" Bf inadvertently drove us to the Scottsdale location which seems further than the Tempe one. It was quite the trek for us (~20 minutes LOL). The lobby was empty. We scanned the menu and placed our orders: one regular grilled steak ($11) cheesesteak with cheese wiz, grilled onions, grilled green peppers, jalapeños, and grilled mushrooms, a regular fry ($3.50), a large grilled chicken sandwich ($14) with provolone, grilled onions, and mushrooms, and sweet potato fries ($4). You get a free drink when you order a sandwich and fry. The difference between the regular and large is about 6 inches according to the worker (regular, 6 inches, large, 12 inches). The order came out quick enough and we headed back home before digging into our sandwiches. Yes, the cheesesteak is good; as bf says however, it is hard to mess up a cheesesteak. My grip would be the size (6 inches) to cost ($11). Rather on the expensive side and the sandwich wasn't brimming full either. It left me desiring another half, easily. The chicken was bland. I'd definitely skip the chicken. The fry was good, the taste was reminiscent of onion/onion powder somehow? I like the Fry sauce. Brother compared it to Cane's sauce but I don't think it's quite on par. The sweet potato fries were good as well. Again, both were rather expensive for the size. Overall Forefathers is good but won't be replacing my Philly cheesesteak place. read more

We came here last night for dinner with our neighbors and showed up 15 minutes before closing. I usually hate being those people that show up right before closing but we didn't check the business hours before we left our homes and we were all hungry. It was a nice open-faced presentation but it wasn't enough once folded together. I basically filled up on bread. I ordered it as the regular sized one with onions and mushrooms. Everyone else in our group got steak so it was probably my mistake for going with chicken. For 2 large cheesesteaks, 3 regular cheesesteaks, 1 cheesechicken, 1 order of sweet potato fries and 2 orders of cheese fries... the total was around $89. I think they came with 4 drink cups. The fries were crispy just the way I like them and same with the sweet potato fries. When you order the cheese fries, it is essentially an order of fries with a four ounce container of cheese whiz for dipping. Over at the counter where you find utensils and beverages, there is a mini fridge with containers of fry sauce, jalapenos, sweet peppers and hot peppers. Such a nice addition! Oh - and pickles! If you love cheesesteaks and have not been to a Forefathers, what are you waiting for?!? From the bread to the Wiz, to the veggies (you call it) all the way to the meat, (beef or chicken) this place is excellent. The "regular" size is typically enough, but they do have a large for those "I'm HUNGRY!!" days... It is also nice for sharing if you and your friend can agree on the toppings. For smaller appetites, they have mini cheesesteaks (or chicken tenders or a grilled cheese sandwich... but, WHY do that to yourself when you can have a cheesesteak?!?) All it takes is three simple steps: pick your protein (beef or chicken), pick your cheese (really, you're looking at provolone or Wiz. Are any other options even under consideration?), pick up to 4 veggies from the list... or none if you don't want any "green" near your sandwich. FYI - don't think too hard: you can always add on the different peppers from the refrigerated case near the soft drink machine. I like mushrooms and onions grilled in. You can add sides -- I've had the fries and sweet potato fries and can vouch for both of these. The others have a high probability of being good, but I can't speak from personal experience. Oh, don't forget the Fry Sauce... in the case with the peppers. Not doing the "bread thing"? (You're missing out since their bread is part of the experience: nice and soft with a bit of "chew") Not sold? Okay, you can get a pile of meat over a kale and cabbage slaw in a bowl if you order the Low Carb option.
