When I decided to redo my backyard, I consulted with several contractors. My primary goals were to replace an aging deck and to cover the yard in pavers reducing the weed potential, which had been an ongoing problem for years. I chose pavers because they have a better track record for longevity than concrete. When I got back the proposals, I appreciated that the one from Forever Green Cali reflected everything I had mentioned in our initial meeting and had the best price. It was clear that attention had been paid during the meeting. Once selected as the contractor, the work began pretty quickly, nailing down details, making selections, identifying the things to stay, etc. The demolition of the existing deck and cleanup of the weeds went fairly quickly. And there were a lot of weeds. The rest of the work of preparing the foundation and sand and then laying the pavers went very quickly as well. Their employees worked very hard and with precision. I had an existing orange tree that was remaining and I really liked the outline that was made around it, including the darker accent pavers. I wanted a tree on the other side of the yard and I had failed to emphasize where I wanted it. When I asked about making a change to pavers already laid out in order to adjust for the tree, Firas was quick to accommodate me, and his employee made the change in no time. This cut out mimics the cut out for the orange tree and really complements it. As a novice at this sort of thing, I appreciated the good suggestions Firas made throughout the process. He and his team were very easy to work with. Part of this process included using their landscape designer to design the planting beds that were around the perimeter. She really took into consideration the kinds of plants I liked and the color scheme that I wanted. After our trip to the nursery, she provided a schematic so that I could anticipate what it would look like and also serve as a guide for the planting of the yard. I absolutely love the result. It is precisely what I wanted. I love the patio that replaced the deck. The edge is trimmed in a darker bullnose paver that makes it visually clear that there is a step down and the lights under the step emphasize this transition. Having broken my arm in the yard five months ago, this is a safety feature that I really appreciate. My backyard is now a much safer place to be which was a primary incentive for this entire project. Did I mention that I love my backyard? It's now a calm and tranquil place to relax. I cannot recommend Forever Green Cali highly enough. I was recently able to use the services of this company to correct some poor paver placement and landscaping work completed by another person. A representative came to my house to look at the scope of the project and take measurements for a quote. I agreed to the price, but had to wait about 6 months to start work. The project manager was very eager to get started and, after hearing about my prior experience that went poorly, wanted to help me out by completing the project correctly and adding additional landscaping lights without an additional charge. Once we agreed on a final price, plan, and payment schedule, the project started the very next day. We agreed to re-do the pavers on the front of the house now and re-do the pavers at the back of the house later. I started out with high hopes. The workers were efficient, courteous, and left the work area neat and tidy at the end of each work day. The old pavers were removed, cleaned and placed back correctly on leveled ground. The lights were added and the plants (that I purchased myself), shrubs, and gravel were placed correctly. Then things started to fall apart. The workers then started showing up on random days and random times without warning. The only time I received phone calls from the project manager was to inquire about my location to request another payment. Additionally, after the plants and shrubs were planted, the water was not turned back on at the valves and my plants died. My project manager agreed to reimburse me if I could re-purchase the plants. I made the purchases and kept my receipts for reimbursement. Also, the timer connected to my new landscaping lights would not work correctly. The lights either stayed on all day or never came on. The project manager sent someone out to replace the dead plants and fix the timer. The pants were placed well and the water was turned back on, but I was not reimbursed for my purchases and the timer still didn't work. I contacted my project manager again who stated someone would be out the next week, but no one ever showed. I finally just purchased a new programmable timer and installed it myself. The lights now work correctly. After about a month, I noticed a dead shrub and weeds popping up in the newly landscaped area. I was assured there would be little to no weeds due the placement of landscape fabric. I called to office to fix the dead shrub and help address the weeds since the company's guarantee was no weeds for up to two years after completion of the project. I also wanted to complete the paver work in the backyard. A new project manager was sent to my house to re-measure the area and provide another quote. The new quote was over $400 higher than the original quote. When I called to ask why the quote was so much higher and to again seek reimbursement for the plants I had to re-purchase, I was told it would be reviewed and someone would get back to me. No one ever responded. I attempted to call the office again, but my calls went straight to voicemail as if my phone number was blocked and no one returned my phone calls. Forever Green - with Firas My project with Forever Green started on a positive note. I worked with Faris on a detailed plan and even did a 3D design so all my specific requests would be followed. Unfortunately, what began as promising quickly turned into disappointment and frustration. I began this project in February, and by August, several paid-for items were still incomplete. I purchased all my own plants and trees, and while the crew was punctual and worked full days, the problems started once I paid in full. Faris promised, "If you pay me now, I'll take care of you." Major Issues: The 3D plan and contract details were not followed. 1.Bait and Switch: I handpicked medium-sized river rock, but pebbles were installed instead. Only part of this was corrected, leaving sections of my yard with the wrong material. 2. An AC screen included in my design was never installed--I was told to "just buy one on Amazon." 3. Soil preparation for my fruit trees was ignored despite my request. As a result, I lost my peach and nectarine trees from the clay. 4. I was charged for weed barrier and mulch I did not receive (I sourced mulch myself). No refund was given. 5. My original plan for grass between pavers was changed to stone at Firas' urging, not my preference. 6. Sprinkler installation was poorly done and STILL NOT giving proper coverage! Now I have dead areas, and having to hire someone else. 7. Faris sent a photographer onto my property without proper notice, which was unsafe given my protective dog. 8. Once payment was complete, Faris stopped responding and never returned to address my concerns. Instead, he sent random workers for temporary partial fixes, and communication became nonexistent. 9. I was told I would have boulders, and a copy of my 3D plan. I didn't receive either. No- I would not recommend him. Bottom Line: If you use Forever Green, proceed with caution. I needed to have an old tree stump removed from my front yard, all of the old grass removed and some sprinklers replaced. Kariim brought a stump remover person who did a great job of removing that. The next day J. R, came with his machine which tore out all of the grass & roots. Took all day. What a process!! The next day Jesus came to take the roots out, and there many! Next step was installing pressure treated wood all inside the fence and hauling new dirt in which was rolled to even the dirt out. Then the sod was installed and now I have a beautiful green yard. Giving the company 5 stars specifically on Kareem's customer service. While looking through potential companies to work on our front yard, Forever Green Cali's reviews stood out. I contacted them and Kareem was nothing but nice, attentive and easy to work with. A few items of note stood out that may have contributed to it. A heatwave occurred and was unexpected and dragged our project which was not the issue as worker safety is paramount. The issue we ran into was the lack of communication on when they will be at our site as we took time off from work to specifically be home. There didn't seem to be timely communication between the workers and the foreman as the information we relayed the night before was not provided to the workers. During the construction phase, the workers asked us for equipment, including a garden hose while they worked on our front yard. We thought it odd that they didn't bring the proper equipment. Workers also asked us for water which we are more than happy to provide. I just assumed that they will have all of the appropriate equipment once they are on site. Ultimately, we redid what the company did for our front yard as it didn't line up with what we envisioned. We moved to a new-build in Woodland in Feb. 2024. There was zero landscaping, only dirt and weeds on all four sides of our lot. Never had to deal with a blank slate in 45 years of various home-ownership. Nervous, to say the least. He was wonderful and really listened to our preferences, as was evident when he returned weeks later with our 3-D CAD renderings. The landscape plan he produced showed placement and names, of all the trees, shrubs, flowers, planter boxes, flagstone and even where my husband wanted to install a 30' tall flagpole. In addition he included the retaining wall in the front, along with the black ornamental fence. It was all there, for us to see what the finished product would look like... no guessing. Once the job was to begin we met with the PM, Scott, who again is an amazing and knowledgeable guy. He introduced us to the 3 gentlemen who would be doing most of the labor....Izzy, Alex, Juan Carlos. All stellar employees. Firas said he only hires the best people and it shows. Scott checked in frequently to see the progress and to address any concerns or changes we might have. There were a couple of hiccups where we changed our mind on the color of the bark, the height of the fence, and no one blinked an eye. They quickly took care of our preferences. Izzy set up all the irrigation needed for the plants and trees and, by the way, we were also adding grass. He set up our timers for the 3-week/ 3-times a day watering, needed to establish some roots. Everything was effortless on our part. Each evening when the crew left, our property was clean and free of any trip hazards. Crew was respectful, very pleasant to talk with and worked nearly non-stop for 10-11 hours a day...in the heat! We were communicated with daily. Yazmine led these efforts, and she was incredibly responsive, candid and forthright. We knew exactly what was happening and when it was happening. She would show up almost daily to survey the work that had been done and ask us questions along the way. --their pricing and invoicing was transparent and fair. I had Forever Green come out and completely replace my front yard with a drought tolerant, low maintenance landscape and also do some sprucing up in the back yard to make it feel more cohesive, and I could not be happier with the result! I don't know much about landscaping (which is why I wanted a low maintenance option) so I gave Yasmine and Eric full artistic license and they did not disappoint! Very pleased with this company. Scott met with me initially and was very accommodating in terms of my vision for our yard. I had purchased some materials for a permeable driveway about three years ago, and Scott also agreed to take on that portion of the project. After I signed the contract, Scott met with me again to go over the plan one more time and introduced me to the foreman, Izzy. I've always thought communication was essential given a bad experience we had with a tree removal company many years ago. So I appreciated that Scott wanted to double-check everything before they got started. And Izzy was great. He and his workers were courteous and very hard working. The whole project was completed in just three days. Can't believe I put off this project for so long. It was so easy and stress-free working with this company. What really mattered for my wife and I was finding a company that would collaborate with us. Scott let us pick out the plants we wanted at Green Acres (also deserving of a glowing review) and they picked them up later that day. When the plants arrived we worked with Izzy on the ideal placement, and his crew took care of the rest. Scott made an excellent suggestion to add a rock border along the sidewalk. Literally moments after they finished we had a neighbor we had never met before come over to compliment us on our yard. After 19 years in the neighborhood we now feel like we have one of the best front yards. The best is still to come when the plants start to spread out!
