I've been here several times over the years, but only ever for the Christmas bar. Miracle at Forgotten Tonic. It is a consistently wonderful experience. Lovely decor and amazing drinks. I got the mulled wine and my friend got the hot buttered rum beverage. Both were excellent ( I tasted hers for quality assurance purposes). Mulled wine is one of my favorite holiday drinks and this is a quality version. The cups are different depending on the beverage you choose, and they are all adorable. The staff is so pleasant and the bartenders are very engaging. Service is excellent! Highly recommend this experience to get fully into the Christmas spirit. I flipped a coin and am so glad it came up heads, so I ordered Baptism for the Dead (Daughter of the Devil will have to wait until next time). it was probably the most unique martini I've tasted. So our experience was probably a bit unique. First we arrived at 2pm on a weekday. The day before the big 2 day concert. It was about half full, and we were in an ideal set of bar seats. The bar is comfortably cozy and offers several sidewalk tables. The liquor is well stocked- lots of choices in each spirit and there's a decent wine list too. There's not a lot of seating and it probably won't work as a destination for groups over 8. Reservations highly recommended. The small plates selection offers a variety and our Montenegro Meatballs were delicious! Turns out Chef Mo grew up in Queens NY a few miles from me! Small world! This has been on my list to try for a while. My friend got the espresso martini and said it was the best one he ever had. I wanted to try the veggie burger but they ran out just before I got there, even though they were only open for an hour at that time. I saw they had fried green tomatoes so asked if I could have a sandwich with that or have the veggie burger but instead of the patty have some fried green tomatoes on it. The server recommended their BLT that had fried green tomatoes and was $2 less. Great, I asked if instead if the bacon if I could swap for avocado, yes, of course. But when I got the bill, it was an additional $4 to add the avocado even though it was in place if the bacon - the main part of the sandwich. So it would have been cheaper for me to get the veggie burger and swap the patty for fried green tomatoes for $19 versus than $21 for a BLT with no B. That's just something as a vegetarian that bothers me because the main price of the meal is the meat or if they can't do a swap I understand that too I just wish I knew or I wouldn't have gotten it. The history of this property is fascinating. The building was the home of the treasurer of the Spanish Crown. It was discovered after his death that he embezzled 10xs+ his salary. The property was seized from his beneficiaries and used by the Spanish crown as a hospital until the British took over in 1770. We heard the food and drink menus were very creative. We all ordered the Chi Chi which was a happy hour cocktail with vodka, creamy coconut, pineapple, and lime. So delicious! We shared happy hour snacks of whipped brie and truffle fries. The brie was some kind of pillowy cheesy heaven with honey and focaccia. The truffle fries were garlicky and full of flavor. We will absolutely be back for dinner one day. read more

A local told us to come here! It's located on Aviles Street. We stayed for a round of drinks. It took quite a while for us to be acknowledged by any of the two bartenders. It's a small bar and about 6 people were sitting at it. I believe we waited a good 10 minutes before my mom finally got someone's attention. Stopped in St Augustine on a whim and wandered into Forgotten Tonic. Unbeknownst to us, they were doing a Christmas "Miracle" pop up! It was absolutely delightful. They told us there was a 5 hour wait, so we sat at the bar which was the best decision we could have ever made. The service was amazing (shoutout to Ella!) and they provided us with great recommendations, along with comping some (very delicious) meatballs that were missed in our order. I had the duck pasta and my partner had the chicken sandwhich. Both of them were delicious and very filling. The drinks were festive and each came in their own unique glass/mug. Tucked away on Aviles Street lies the Forgotten Tonic. For me it's like a secret getaway each time we visit. We take our two seats at the bar and are quickly greeted by one of the most prestigious bartenders I have ever had. His name is Johnny. He's a true treasure and FT is lucky to have him! He takes his time, meticulous, a warm familiar face that happily greets us. He creates expertly crafted cocktails that are sure to please even the pickiest of tastebuds. He is thorough, never misses a beat and always has a smile on his face. Even in the thick of the weeds he never falters, never appears fazed by the endless crowd of people surrounding the bar. Last night in particular we were casually sharing that we had eaten nearby for our anniversary. Shortly thereafter, a slice of delicious chocolate cake with a chocolate crust was presented with a sparkler on top indicating one of celebration. We felt like royalty! Top notch customer service would be an understatement. We were also fortunate enough to have a delicious bourbon cocktail made that he mentioned he'd won a contest for (understandably so, it was Devine!). I was so looking forward to meeting up with friends during the holidays as Forgotten Tonic really knows how to make a festive display for the holidays. Even though it's a fairly small tight place there was a huge Beautifully decorated Christmas tree inside & so many other decorations that it was hard to point them out individually. We started at the bar which should not be missed during holiday season. There are drinks with fun names like Christmasadaurus, Crooked Antler and Stocking Stuffer. Many served in whimsical ceramic mugs at a hefty price tag but it's the holidays right? We waited at the bar for our reservation about 20 minutes which was acceptable during this time of year. Once we were seated a hostess plopped down our menus without even a glance or a smile when we thanked her. Our server took a while to come over to the table. Since we had already had our first round of drinks at the bar we skipped right to appetizers. We ordered the Cajun egg rolls & hummus plate. The Cajun egg rolls were excellent filled with chicken cream cheese, black beans with a spicy sauce on top. We all enjoyed them. The hummus plate was pretty pedestrian & had a few carrot sticks and celery sticks served with it. Our server throughout our meal was pleasant but acted sort of indifferent. None of us could put a finger on exactly what the issue was but we felt as though she was a robot who really didn't want to be there, perhaps a bad day. All of our meals were good, not great, not outstanding as I've had here in the past. Maybe it's because I had high expectations from my previous visits. My friends were really put off by the blurb at the bottom of the menu describing the Surcharge for the employees. I have included the photo & explanation. (Although it is only 3% ) Most of our party felt it is management's responsibility to include benefits for their employees and it should not be passed on to the customer. We ended up coming in pretty late (around 9 pm) and ordered some of their signature cocktails and their Santa Fe Eggrolls, Charcuterie Board and the Steak Sandwich. On our visit to St. Augustine, we stopped at Forgotten Tonic for lunch. We were initially seated at a booth but you sunk down so low on the benches that the table ends up being too high. We moved to a regular table and it turned out to be much better. Our waitress took our drink order and we proceeded to each order the a burger with a side of French fries. The burgers came out pretty quickly and were of decent quality. They weren't the best I've ever had but they were above average. I would normally have given a 4-star review. I think the real rating is closer to 3.5 but since you can't give half stars, I would round up to 4. The reason I am giving a 2-star review is because the restaurant did something which in my opinion borders on fraud. They added a 2.99% optional surcharge to the bill without informing me about it. It was on the bill but it is easy to miss and the waitress never said a word about it. They bring the payment device to the table and it wasn't until after I had paid my bill and entered a 20% tip that my fiancé mentioned she had seen something in the bathroom about the surcharge. I asked what the surcharge was for and the waitress said it was so the restaurant could provide health insurance to their employees. That's nice but don't tack on a bogus optional charge on my bill without telling me first. I bet like me most people didn't even notice it's there. It only amounted to a couple of dollars but it's the principle. I think moves like this are highly dishonest and deceitful. If the restaurant wants to give its employees health insurance, raise the price of the food to cover it. Because of the hidden "optional" 2.99% surcharge, I can only give Forgotten Tonic a 2-star rating. Needless to say, I will not be returning. read more

OMG! Where to start? Fabulous setting with a great sized bar, tended to by Abby and her cohorts who mix up the finest drinks around! My mojito was the BEST I've ever had!! Hubby's Long Island was perfect, and the food!!!!! Appetizers we scarfed down were incredible meatballs that were moist and sitting on a lovely cream sauce. The bruschetta...ahhhhhh...2 huge slices of toasted bread with tomatoes and a ton of creamy mozzarella that dripped down your hand!!!! We enjoyed that evening so much, we went back the next night just to try more!!!! Had the same drinks(why fool with perfection?) and I had the best mountainous heap of unreal hummus with celery, carrot strips and that divine sliced toasted bread. Hubby had the grilled fish sandwich and a bowl of fried rice that produced groans of delight with each forkful!
