When this restaurant first opened I absolutely loved it! The location is stellar in a historic building right downtown and the interior is incredibly well done. The service is generally great but I have been disappointed with the menu. There aren't many unique daily specials and I don't believe the menu has changed at all since opening. My husband and I went in for the first time since moving to Boise. We sat outside and had great drinks. The service was excellent and food was great. We ordered the grilled artichokes, house chips and fries. All were very good. I had the Vault salad with grilled portabello and my husband had the halibut special. It was great. They brought us the warm butter cake and it was OK. It's their signature dessert and it's just not our speed. Overall, I would go back any night and enjoy all the place has to offer. read more

With a classy, but not stuffy atmosphere, Fork is a fantastic example of the ideal modern dining experience. Not only was the food incredible, the staff was extremely helpful making sure we were always attended to without being intrusive. One highlight of the meal was the drinks, not at all overpriced for the strength, an area I've noticed many local restaurants skimping on. Ambiance: Good Service: Great! Food.......eh (shrugs) I had the tomato basil "fondue" which is basically expensive grilled cheese with tomato soup (I was expecting fondue, this was not fondue) Also had the skillet Mac and cheese which was a grease bomb and the prime rib dip with Fries. The prime rib was just bland and the fries were a lot of Parmesan with no rosemary or seasoning. I can see why this place gets four stars. The food is so close to being good, it just needs to be tweaked a bit. For example the Mac and cheese would be so much better if it were breaded in panko and then browned off. And there is unexplained soggy arugula that didn't need to be there. The prime rib could be smoked and then dipped in the jus. And the fries needed more rosemary and some salt. The wait staff was really excellent, we were seated near the wait staff area and I was impressed by the camaraderie and how much they were willing to help each other out. The result was a water glass that hardly had a chance to get below the rim and speedy service. read more

Always consistent with staff that remember you and the people you're with...or remember you because of the people you're with. Either way it feels good. The drinks are always good with quality well liquor, not the cheap crap. You can simply tell they care. It's clean, comfortable and tasty every time. From the filet, to the trout, and the delicious prime rib dip sandwich, you can't go wrong especially with the modest price points. Saturday brunch was busy, the party of 5 outside next to us was complaining to the waitress that they had waited 2 hrs. Before their order was delivered and commented that she would never come back, her whole table was comped their meal. My wife and I were served in an acceptable amount of time, She ordered a breakfast sandwich with the aioli on the side, I ordered the Benedict with the hollandaise on the side and a side of avocado. Breakfast Sand came out covered in aioli and bacon on the sand was cold and undercooked (looked pretty nasty) bene came out with missing avocado, eggs were overcooked but actually it wasn't really that bad tasting, hollandaise was pretty awesome. My wife sent back the sandwich, I split the bene with her, we had 2 bloody Mary's and were comped our food. I paid for the bloodys and tipped as if we had the food (our waitress was awesome by the way, I felt bad for her) it was obvious that this was a bad day for the kitchen. I wanted to give more Stars simply because our waitress was phenomenal... We will give another chance in the future. read more

Fork is casual but do not let that fool you. The kitchen and staff are well trained and perform better than restaurants that cost much more. Everything is thought out from the hostess greeting to departure. Their cocktail list is amazing and focused locally like their entire menu. This review is based on the chicken & waffle entree served on Tuesdays only. Fork has a chicken & waffle dish on their menu and we had been wanting to try it so we "forked" over the $19 to see what's what. The chicken was undercooked and fleshy the first time; it got sent back. Waited another 10 minutes for a properly cooked version. The second time it was cooked enough but a little dry in parts. The waffle was the the thin round kind (not Belgium-style) and was the base of the dish. Decent amount of chicken served with it. I love fried chicken, especially when the breading has that magical ratio of salt, pepper and spices/herbs. This chicken was very under-seasoned. I could barely detect salt in the breading or chicken. I'm not someone who needs super salty food--it's more about the fact that salt drives flavor. The butter was perked up with orange zest, and was tasty. The syrup had balsamic in it--also a nice touch. With the waffle having burnt parts, the butter and syrup helped to overpower its blackened bites. My advice to Fork: to do chicken & waffles right, your focus should start with the bird. Get the seasoning right. That's where it all starts! The fancy butter and syrup is nice and all, but it shouldn't be the focus. I just felt like there were too many bells & whistles going on but not enough fundamental flavor. It is $19 after all. read more

Service kinda sucked. Our server barely checked on us and the only thing she did was bring our drinks and take our order, other servers brought our food to us and our actual server only took our order and we didn't even really see her after that, we kept having to flag down random servers for help. And the food was not worth the prices, I'm gonna try this place again but for now it deserves 2 stars. I got the northwest crispy chicken salad, and I added bacon for two dollars, which got me a half of a piece of bacon. Which is bullsh*t. C'mon fork, don't be skimping on the food! Great food! Urban Burger and the Garlic Rosemary Fries are AMAZING. I've been there 6-7 times now and have never had a poor experience. The tap selection could use a little help in my opinion but I can usually still find a tasty beverage. Love the atmosphere. They've accommodated for larger groups for us several times also, (12 people) with a reservation, which you'll want for dinner, a few days ahead if possible too. read more

Great place to get drinks. Been here a couple times and I always enjoy when I do come. The last time I was here was just average. The food was kinda average, I probably could have cooked it at home. The service was fine, A little slow but very friendly. Drinks were great, hot buttered rum warms your soul and the Mule what delicious. This place is a standard New American joint doing their best to imitate a chain. Fun bar scene, some solid app options, and super predictable mains, desserts and cocktails. Dang Fork, it's like you dropped the knife on service and handed it back to me dirty. You missed the service mark on more levels than I can't even count to in French (well, in part that may be because I've never taken French). 1) We had a 7:30 reservation as my MIL was in town. We arrived on time, were told "our" table had paid up but they were waiting for them to leave so please grab a drink in the bar. I wasn't so miffed that we had a reservation and had to wait (more than 20 minutes) but it was more annoying that it took forever to order 2 glasses of wine and 1 beer for our party of 3 during that 20+ minute wait. 2) Dinner service was S-L-O-W although the table with a larger group that was seated next to us (and seated after we were) seemed to receive drinks and food items before we did. Hey, we are nice people, didn't order anything complicated and are always polite not sure what gives. We were chatting and took a few minutes to review the menu but once we ordered things came to a grinding halt. I ordered the tomato basil fondue which did come out quickly but that's about it. We sat around with that one dish and empty glasses hoping someone, anyone would come by. Did we want a second round of drinks? Yes please. When our waiter did stop by he asked my husband what he wanted but failed to take notice of the levels of wine left in the other 2 glasses. Seriously? When my MIL and I were able to order another drink I also ordered a pellegrino along with a glass of wine so imagine my surprise when my MIL's wine arrived along with my pellegrino, but no wine for me. The waiter had to go back AGAIN for my wine. By this time the entrees had finally arrived: ravioli for MIL, JP had the french dip (rosemary fries were delish) and I ordered the 1/2 greenbelt salad with chicken. The dressing on the salad was so flavorful. I didn't try the ravioli but my MIL really enjoyed it. The food is great...definitely worthy of 4 stars (or higher) but I have to knock my rating down because the service was just so darn bad...from arrival, to trying to grab a drink at the bar to dinner service. This is definitely one of the better places I've eaten in Boise, I just hope they get their service dialed in. It is obviously a very popular place with the weekend crowd so you should staff accordingly. I get that you don't have control over when a group vacates a table so I am not complaining about that, it's all of the other missteps. Go here for the NW inspired comfort food but be prepared for slow service if you are dining on a Friday or Saturday night. read more

Not Impressed. After reviewing their menu online I thought the food looked great, I was excited to try it out. The space itself is great, very cool vibe with a big, open dining area. The bar looked like a great place to hang out for a few cocktails too. After ordering, one thing I noticed is nothing is served right away, such as something as simple as fresh artisan bread and oil. This is usually the mark of a restaurant that isn't too guest-centric I've discovered, in regards to the food. Anyway, not a big deal but definitely noticeable to someone who's eaten in many excellent restaurants in quite a few cities. The first course salad was honestly terrible. I was in the mood for something simple, so I ordered their Wedge Salad. I got about half a head of iceberg with maybe 3 tablespoons of creamy blue, a tablespoon of crumbly, a few red onion rings, and a few grape tomatoes. None of the ingredients tasted all that fresh, and the salad had way too much iceberg and not nearly enough blue cheese. In short, it sucked. A Wedge is a hard salad to screw up too. Onward to the entree. I came in looking forward to a NY Strip or Ribeye (like I saw on their outdated menu online), but they only had a Filet on the menu that night. Not the end of the world, I like Filet as well. The meat came out on a skillet platter, which shocked me. Why... on earth.... would you serve a cut of meat that's cooked to temperature on a skillet platter that's about 300 degrees and will continue to cook the meat long after it left the window? I can tell you why. Stupidity. My medium rare filet was heading upwards to medium well by the second, as it sat there in front of me. I almost sent it back for being overcooked on arriving to the table (it was medium by this point) but decided against it. The truly terrible part was it was a quality cut of meat, the kitchen just overcooked it with the presentation. The sauce was pretty good. The polenta that it was served with was awful. Overcooked and with little flavor. Scale of 1 to 10 this place gets an 8 for ambiance and a straight up 1 for food. It's in no way a good value and not a memorable experience. Had the asparagus fries, Idaho trout, and butter cake. OMG everything was delicious. The bartenders were very attentive and helpful. The house made ranch definitely set the asparagus fries apart (had a little tang to it), the trout was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and I normally don't like any dessert unless it's chocolate but the butter cake was out of this world. Definitely going to stop here again next time I'm in Boise. read more

Atmosphere is nice and service was good. I had the fish tacos, but would not order them again. They arrived in a pool of liquid, which must have been from the soggy coleslaw in it. So these 2 tacos were very messy to eat. My wife had the short ribs and she really like it. The other member of our party had the trout and she said it was very good. She liked the cooked kale it was served with. The deserts are good. Hot butter cake was wonderful. For the price, I think it should have been better. Oh, we also had the house made potato chips which were good. In all, our bill was $90 for lunch for 3 of us. No alcohol was included in this cost. And this did not include a tip. read more

Maybe because I had high expectations after reading about it online and hearing about it from so many locals, but it seemed just a step above a chain in decor and service. This restaurant was a bit disappointing considering all the buzz. First it was much more casual than I expected. Second there were some basic problems...we ordered the asparagus fries and the cook had not removed the tough ends, which any home cook knows to do and is basic veg prep. My husband ordered the ban mi sandwich ( which he said was fine) along with the rosemary Parmesan fries which showed no evidence of rosemary at all. I ordered a small garden salad and the brussel sprouts, which is the exact thing I ordered at Red Feather the night before. The sprouts at RF were nuanced and delicate, the ones at Fork were just a pile of overly browned sprouts. My salad came with the wrong dressing and that took a little while before our server came by to correct. Overall I don't feel the need to return. read more
