    Grants burger

The food was good. However the wait? Probably one of the worst i been to. Almost an hour for my food which was 2 burgers and chicken strips. No check ins or anything during that whole hour. Again the food was good but not worth an hour wait time for simple food

Grants has been on my "must visit" list for quite some time. It looks pretty nondescript from the outside, but once you turn the corner to go through the front door, you're welcomed by a cute patio area with a living wall. Inside is filled with small wood tables and a bar with rustic charm. We were immediately greeted and were able to choose a table. I had made reservations, though it wasn't necessary. However, this is a very small location and in the past, I couldn't get in due to the space limitations, so I would strongly suggest reservations. My friend ordered the grilled chicken burger (bacon add) and since I'm obsessed with ordering a bleu cheese hamburger every place I go, so it was the Big Bleu for me (add bacon). We both ordered fries, with a side of ranch and fry sauce. Food came out much quicker than I expected. The Big Bleu comes with a 1/2 lb brisket burger with Castello Bleu Cheese, Onion Rings and Red Onion Marmalade. Now I love onions, a lot, but the marmalade had an overpowering tang to it that drowned out the bleu cheese entirely. The onion ring (didn't seem like "rings") was squishy and almost felt like an afterthought. The burger patty was perfectly medium and juicy, bun was buttery toasted. The fries were nicely battered, though I would have preferred a few more than what was served. The ranch dressing was delicious but the fry sauce in the blander side. My friend loved her grilled chicken burger, but she purposely had the tarragon aioli on the side. She was not the biggest fan of the aioli. Service was well paced, friendly and attentive though there were only 2 servers for a 3/4th full place. I wouldn't mind at all trying again, just not the bleu burger. Overall, I would give Grants a 3.5 but service bumped it up to a 4. I keep hearing that the weekend brunch is a must do, so that will hopefully be my next try.

Had skirt steak tacos. Outstanding! Very tender and flavorful. Brad (chef) always does a great job. Kim (server) is very kind/attentive.

Cute neighborhood little place! Great menu. Good local beers and wine choices. Tempura green beans were delicious. Friendly staff.

14oz NY Strip with mash and asparagus

Brought the wife and teens for her birthday dinner. It was a good experience and we'll be back to try other things on the menu. We sat on the patio and very much enjoyed the warmest evening so far this year without feeling disconnected from the restaurant and staff service. Pictured is the locally-sourced NY strip requested rare. Nailed it, and it still had a nice outside sear. Steak knife was not very effective so it took a bit of effort to cut off the gristle line and fat cap from the meat. The sauce had good flavor but I had to remove a bunch of the peppercorns because it was just too much to crunch through and swallow. Potatoes had a nice, firm but smooth texture with a light butter and garlic undertone. Nothing needed. Veg is rotated seasonally, landing on asparagus while we were there. Disappointed with a very lean 3-count. If I'm working on a chunk of beef, I prefer more veggies for balance. The stuffed piquillo peppers showed up at a curiosity (missed taking a photo). I was visualizing a half-shell configuration, but they came with the cap cut off and upside down like red safety cones. Mild, good flavor without any spiciness. My wife said she liked the beef stroganoff. I don't eat that food. And our teens were able to find something they liked. One went with the Royale with cheese (add bacon) and the other deep fried shrimp. I tried the burger's fries, which had a really tasty coating on them. The cocktail sauce for the shrimp had an aggressive amount of horseradish in it, so be warned.

For some reason, we were seated in a corner booth near the bathrooms, while other customers were seated elsewhere in the restaurant. We didn't mind, however, because it was nice and quiet. And, for me, convenient. My wife had the Sirloin Salad, and I had the Ahi Poke Salad. My wife said that her meat was cooked the way she likes it, and the rest of the ingredients were delicious. For me, the ahi, sesame vinaigrette dressing, wonton strips, onions, and greens were very good. The food is always good at The Tavern. And, the prices are reasonable. Unlike our past experiences, the service this time around was not up to our usual. Our server, Hannah C., seemed in a rush and impatient. Though she told us to ask her if we had questions, I didn't find her responses to be pleasant. The first dish my wife was interested in had Boursin cheese. My wife had not heard of it, and she cannot eat a lot of cheese. She preferred something milder, like mozarella. When she inquired of Hannah, the reply was terse. "We don't have mozarella." "Do you have another milder cheese?" "Like what?" Not in a nice way, and not professional, in my opinion. And, she was loud. We waited longer than usual for our food, and when Hannah brought it, she just dropped the plates and split. To her credit, she did check in on us once during our meal. Now I don't know what kind of day Hannah was having. Maybe not so good. I don't know what kind of person she is, and I'll give her the benefit of the doubt that she is a nice woman. Hopefully she is not like how she was with us to all of her customers. I'm a 20% tipper. For her, it was 18%. I wasn't given a choice, but I would have gone down to 15%.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to order food because we had to catch a movie. However, during our visit, we overheard who we believe to be one of the owners (his photos were displayed on the wall) speaking poorly about employees and referring to them as "idiots." That alone was disappointing, but hearing it within earshot of customers felt extremely unprofessional. As a long-time business owner myself, I firmly believe you are only as strong as your team. Respecting employees -- especially publicly -- is critical to a healthy work environment and strong customer experience. It was uncomfortable to witness and ultimately the reason we won't be returning. I genuinely felt sorry for the staff working that shift. Additionally, it appeared that both owners may have been drinking while on shift, which also felt unprofessional. One of them did approach us and seemed very sweet, but after overhearing the earlier comments, it unfortunately changed the entire atmosphere for us. The overall ambiance was decent, and Alex did a great job. It's just disappointing when leadership undermines what could otherwise be a positive experience.

My girlfriends and I decided we needed to get some grub and enjoy the patio weather today so we all picked Sockeye to hit up for our monthly outing. I arrived first and the patio area was pretty chill. Was sat at a great table and hung out till the rest of my friends showed up. My two friends and I did get to peep out the menu for a bit. Our last friend who is notoriously late allowed is some extra time to really check out the whole menu without feeling rushed. Happy hour was going on so of course the apps were calling to me. I can make a meal off of multiple appetizers. We finally got food ordered when our last friend showed up. I got the salmon and shrimp crab cakes. I have left Sockeye hungry before after having dinner here so I also added a side of chili just in case. I was ready to eat! My crab and shrimp cakes came out looking fabulous. They were fried a nice golden brown. So crispy on the outside and savory on the inside. I love the aoili that was on top, it added an extra flair to the crab cake. 3 were in an order and it was the perfect amount. I smashed all 3 and they were so good! I did have a couple bites of the chili. It was hearty in meat and beans. Rich in flavor and filling. I'm looking forward to adding this chili to some fries with some cheese on top for dinner later. I know it's going to be so good. Our server did a great job tonight. Despite the fact that she had to wait till our last friend to show up, our server was on top of it. Our water was always filled, she checked up on us and always made sure we were happy. As a past server, it's hard to manage time between tables when the whole party isn't there. Our server didn't have that issue today. My girlfriends and I had a great time. We enjoyed the food, enjoyed the atmosphere and was happy that we got to do this all on the patio. I always forget that there's a Sockeye by us off of Hill Rd. I will have to check that one out soon to grab more crab cakes. I do look foward to coming back to this location and enjoying another round of appetizers on the patio here.
