Off top I have to say they have a nice very diverse menu with fair prices. Secondly, they have good customer service and the food is excellent. I ordered the flounder, it was very well seasoned. I was so excited to have a job 20 minutes from here yesterday. I went in and ordered the Carnado Chicken pasta. I remembered the last time I got it, it was good but needed more sauce. So, this time I asked for extra sauce. It looks like they just added water. It was flavorless with huge pieces of flavorless chicken. No onions or bell peppers the way it's advertised. The sauce was watery and bland and the pasta was rock hard. I also ordered a piece of catfish and 5 piece shrimp. The catfish was way too salty. Overall, I literally trashed the whole thing of pasta the next day when I went to reheat it and there was zero sauce. I probably won't return here again. Not worth the money or the drive. We called in an order to go and Justin answered. He was really nice and patient as I was struggling to give my order. We headed over to pick up the food and it was very crowded but the food was ready to go. Justin was behind the counter and was just as friendly in person. He opened the boxes to show me the orders and everything looked great! I paid expecting to put a tip on my credit card but they didn't have that as an option; they could only take cash tips. I felt terrible because I always tip but the cashier was so sweet and understood but I felt awful. We got home and started eating and WOW! Everything was so good! I had a veggie burger and tots and my friends had the fried oyster platter with some really hot and fresh pork rinds. I didn't try them but my friends LOVED them. My burger and tots were fantastic; the burger was so big I had it for two meals. I grew up on a farm in Alabama so I know good southern food and this was GREAT. I've been going there for years & today they have a new guy working the pick-up counter who was only demanding receipts from white customers. I witnessed while I ate my order that he was only doing this to white customers. I intentionally asked if it was something new & he said no so I caught him in the lie. A VERY popular local spot. I just beat the rush. It filled up quickly at the time church would be letting out. I had the shrimp and grits. It had lots of flavor, very Louisiana inspired, but not what we think of as Creole, per se. The specific technique was more home cook than Commanders Palace, but still good. I want to share my horrible experience I had yesterday at this restaurant. I placed an order with the cashier and immediately changed one of the orders because of the price difference. So, I guess she didn't know how to remove and change it, so the cook/ manager I guess, came from the back and tried to fix it. The skinny black guy. He came over and added 3 tender boxes to my order after, I already repeated to the previous cashier my order and him. He then says, we already started cooking the food, and it wasn't even a minute that went by when I changed it immediately. He said okay. But with slight attitude. The food came out and I noticed it wasn't correct, so I immediately told them, then he came back out and was like, you ordered this and I'm like no I didn't. So he took the boxes from me and went to the back, then came back up front and said just keep one of them and I'll remake it with a very nasty attitude. I then said I don't want the food anymore, if that's the attitude I'm going to get, and that if he could also give me back the money for him charging me for a extra meal. He said I'll just credit you back the 10 dollars, for when you come next time. I just said okay to leave. Because I was uncomfortable. So I ended up going back a week later and tried using my credit. Placed my order with a cashier and told him I want to add my credit from last time. The same cook/ manger guy came upfront and said I remember you, then said I want to make sure your good with your order and won't change it with a nasty condescending way in front of the customers. I immediately felt the animosity intention and I said you know what, I didn't come here for this. and said I don't want my food made with that attitude like I said the last time but this time, I was done. I said, just give me back the money that you owed, which is what you should've given me the first time and said I'm just done with this establishment. He then calls me the N-word, in front of all these customers, trying to humiliate me then said I was getting the meal for free, making it seem like, I came in there for a free meal when I had a $10 credit from him charging me extra, for food that I did not order from the last time. It was the worst because it was humiliating for him to try to disrespect me like that I've been coming to this restaurant for a few years now for five years, spending my money and to be treated like that was out of line and I just wanted to leave this review so that people can know how nasty that cook manager or whatever he is was to a customer of paying loyal customer at that. 0/10 do not recommend. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food took a little longer but that is because they make everything fresh. The food was amazing! I had the salmon burger and cheese garlicky grits. My husband had country fried chicken with mashed potatoes and fried mushrooms. My daughter had an American burger with fried green tomatoes. My son had grilled catfish, fried scallops and sweet potatoes bites. All the food tasted wonderful, but the highlights were my daughter said they were the best fried green tomatoes she ever had. I tried them as well and I have to say they were very flavorful and we didn't even use any dipping sauce and the salmon burger was cooked to perfection. We ordered the Charleston Fishwich (flounder) and the Louisiana Poboy(shrimp) with sides of fried onion strings, fried okra and fried green tomatoes. Our meals also came with complimentary cole slaw and corn muffins. Plenty of cocktail and tarter sauce. Lots and lots of food, huge portions!
