Went here for happy hour which is a fantastic deal, the service I received knocked off a star. Their happy hour is from 4-6 Monday-Friday. It's been a few years since I've dined at Marlow's, but their HH deals brought me in. I sat at the bar, and maybe they were in the middle of a shift change bc it took a while to get greeted and service throughout my experience was slow. I had to wave them down, ask for refills instead of the bartender being diligent. The bar was full, but at one point I saw one of the bartenders texting, so they had time to check on guests. I'm also in the service industry , so I may notice these things more than the average person. Anyways, their happy hour is one of the best I've come across. $5 margs & $6 old fashions to highlight a few items. I love a happy hour with food AND drinks. The food here is still as solid as I remember. I had the kettle chips and wings. Wings were not sauced, but very crispy and came with dipping sauce on the side. The chips were hella good! Crispy and the toppings were great. I had those two appetizers, 3 margs and a creme brûlée for under $40! That's a win, this will be one of my go-to spots for sure. read more

We walked in 8pm Saturday night. I can understand a restaurant being busy and understaffed, but giving it one star is one too many. It took at least 5 minutes to be recognized by a host and then several more before we were seated, even though there were plenty of open tables. We should have left at that point, but we stayed hoping that the server experience would be much better. Then it took some time for the server to come around so, in the meantime, our party planned on our entree item selections to give to the server when she arrived to ask about our drinks, tell about specials, etc. Server writes down our order. 10 minutes + pass and no waters. My girlfriend noticed the server immediately went to clean a table after taking our order. ???? We designated a time that we were going to leave if there was no drinks, and then we left when the time came. On a lesser note, the place has plenty of TVs. We went to watch the second half of a college basketball game (University of North Carolina vs Dook) on ESPN, a basic cable network, and none of the TVs had the game on. No big deal. But when the server came to take our order, we also requested that she put the tv closest to us on the UNC/Dook game. 10 minutes + pass and I was still watching it on my phone as she never changed the channel. Anyway. 20-25 minutes total. Many delays and excuses. 0 Stars. 1 will have to do for. We went to Brockett Pub, three miles down the road. We were acknowledged and served quickly, they put the game on, we had a wonderful meal, and Carolina won. All's well that ends well, but never again here. read more

Live in the area and this was my go to spot because it has an outdoor patio-but in the summer it was hit or miss & rarely open... but I decided to try it again on a Thursday night. First the parking situation is a mess it was challenging to find a parking spot on a Thursday night due to parking barriers around the lot. There was no hostess when we walked in so we waited and finally we were seated. I've heard the food was hit or miss but I'm mainly vegetarian so I tried one of the salads it was mid at best. They didn't seem to have a lot of servers but it was a Thursday night. Earlier in the month we tried to come on a beautiful warm Friday night and there were people waiting to get in but they seemed to barely have any servers ..so we skipped it because we didn't want to wait that long. The asparagus fries were kind of soggy... I ordered the vegetarian burger again it was OK nothing special. The main rating comes from the parking situation, the underwhelming food taste and considering it was not many people in the restaurant for Thursday the service was a bit slow. So considering the area I think there are other places to go that have a lot better food.. hopefully in the summer they will open the rooftop patio area. We dined in last night. Took a few minutes to get seated (it was 6:30pm on a Saturday). We were meeting friends we hadn't seen in awhile. Take home; great service, amazing food, truly reasonable prices. The playlist was as oldies and nostalgic. Perfect ambience. Our server was amazing, attentive but navigated our non-stop conversation effortlessly without interrupting and kept our glasses full. Adults and kids included. We ordered the truffle fries, asparagus fries (so good), Asian salad with salmon, burger, club stack and filet. All 4 adults raved about their meals. Prices were really reasonable and the drink selections are pretty diverse (I was drinking Prosecco and had 3 options under $10/glass ). Went here for dinner after a performance downtown. Parking was a bit tricky to get into. We were greeted by our server, and were seated but had to wait about 10 minutes for our actual server. Eh. My friend and I arrived late on a Wednesday evening just looking for a quick dinner--but quick is the last word I'd use to describe this experience. Things started off fine... until we got our first drink. After that, it was all downhill. The appetizers took forever, and when I finally asked about them, the server casually said, "Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you..." Excuse me, what? Then came the long wait for our entrées--which we also had to ask about. We tried to lighten the mood with another drink, just a simple glass of wine, but of course... that took forever too. The manager eventually brought it out herself and apologized for the experience. She offered to comp an appetizer, a wine, and give us a card for a free appetizer next time. I have many Marlow Tavern around town. I still think Maylows on Lavista is the best. The bar has a high social scene happening with regulars and guest from out of town. The food is fresh, try the gaspacho starter. Big enough for two. I like their burgers. The tacos were rich and flavorful but last time we were there the they skimped on the fish portion. This is connected to the Doubletree hotel in Tucker. The food has been great each time we have come. We always get the chips no matter what. We have been here on several occasions and cant say that we had had a bad experience. Usually the wait is not long to be seated. The staff is always pleasant. I think we have tried everything on the menu so when we go back we already know what we want. They do have this rewards program that we decided to join. Because we go here so much it pays to join the club. The prices are reasonable and the portions are usually good sized. We only have visited the Tucker location but I am sure we will be visiting other locations as well. We come here so often I think the staff knows us by name which is always good. We loved our food but we literally froze the entire time we were there. Even after we asked to change tables we still had to keep our coats on. They have a sliding glass door to the entry area which iseems to be unheated, including the restrooms. The sliding door was kept open the whole time. The menu was interesting and there was a variety of tavern food for some healthier choices. I guess they're known for their fish tacos, but we didn't order that. I had to tempura grouper sandwich. I felt that it was a little short on fish and heavy on coating, but there were two pieces inside a bun with some jicama slaw. It came with a Tartar sauce on the sandwich. It tasted fine maybe a little bit salty. On the side, i upgraded to asparagus fries, which were actually more like Tempura also. Again tasty and maybe too salty. My partner ordered the Asian salad with Ahi tuna add-on. The salad was as big as a large plate and edamame and romaine carrots, red pepper, small bits of tomato, avocado, and wonton strips. She thought it was good. Had miso dressings on the side and a sauce for the Aji tuna. After a long day in the car, it was nice to sit down and have a decent meal. The place is located off Northlake/LaVista in a hotel so it was kinda hard to find but found it! The JT chips were my absolute favorite. I loved them so much. Very flavorable! The wings were nice and hot. I got the lemon pepper wings which are dry rubbed; for reference. The truffle fries fell short. I did not like them. They tasted like regular fries to me. Staying at the Double Tree Hotel and decided to eat at the restaurant attached called Marlows. I travel for work and eat out too much. Food was delicious. Had onion rings that were very crispy and homemade. So good They don't need ketchup. House Salad was also tasty with homemade ranch! Panini was huge and awesome. All my portions are huge. Service was exceptional! Drink refills right on time and friendly staff. My waitress (Katy) was new but I would not have known if she had not told me. Marlow's Tavern is a great place to go for a nice lunch or dinner meal with a smooth atmosphere. In addition to the fact that the kitchen can make just about anything, they got a great bar to boot. The appetizers are awesome and have a good portion size. The entrees while somewhat limited can be altered and adjusted to suit your needs. My suggestion would be to try the shrimp and grits. A client recommended we try this place while visiting. When we walked in we entered through a sliding glass door with no handle and a hole in the glass that was just waiting to fall off the track and hurt someone. We were seated immediately and the server came right away to get our drink orders. She brought our drinks, we were not ready to order yet and we did not see her for 15-20 minutes. We ordered the black truffle fries as an app. They were soggy fries the type they are usually is (the ones with skin like you get from Wendy's) . Our entree came almost immediately behind it. I had trigger fish and my coworker had grouper tacos. She said the tacos were the best fish tacos she has ever eaten. Trigger fish is a hidden gem, many say it resembles grouper but I think it is better. It is seldom seen on a menu, especially this far from the coast. When I see it I always get it as anyone who serves it knows what they have. It came on a bed of rice with a sweet chili topping. Cooked perfectly and I ate it all. Our server never came back to refill our drinks, we had to wave her down to get a check. I would have overlooked the fries but the sub par service was the only thing that stopped a 5 star review. There are no restrooms in the restaurant that I could find but there were single person restrooms just outside near the exit. This was pretty good. I've always heard about this place because of their affiliation with DawgNation Daily, but never went. I saw a sign off the highway, gave it a shot. The food was good, the vibe was cool, the service was ok. My server was good, but it took so long to get stuff, that was the only problem. That's why I can't give 5 stars. I ordered a chicken panini and they gave me salmon instead, which was cool because I liked salmon. It just wasn't what I ordered. But I will definitely go again, just probably another location. I have been at various locations of Marlow's Tavern over the years. I had not been to the Lavista Road in Tucker, location since before the pandemic. The restaurant was full when we arrived at approximately 6:30. We were greeted by pleasant host who cleared a table within minutes and as soon as another couple got up. It went downhill from there. Though he was pleasant our server took a long time to get to the table and was missing in action most of the evening. I don't know if they were understaffed or what. The "craft cocktail" came in a glass made for iced tea full of ice and a straw. The drink tasted like water with a hint of grapefruit juice. Again, the server was missing in action and we had to flag a random employee to fetch him. I told him I would either need him to bring a shot of gin to the table or I'll need to order another drink. He went for the former. My dinner companion had salmon and I had the fish tacos that were certainly infamous. The menu said mahi-mahi, but I've never had any that tasted this fishy and oily before in my life! I am not certain that it was mahi-mahi. It seemed more like Chilean Seabass. Perhaps, that's why they keep the dining room so dark. I literally had to use a napkin to wipe the excess oil from off the bottom of the taco. It made me nauseous. It was only two tacos. I was able to get one down and a third of the other one. The truffle fries were not all that either. I left half of those on the plate, too. I don't typically leave food on my plate or I take it home. I did neither this time. I usually pick good restaurants and always the right entrée and drink. Tonight was a total disappointment. If I hadn't waited so long, I would've probably sent the fish tacos back in ordered something else. Thank God, my dinner companion paid for our meal or else that would've added insult to injury. I gave the restaurant two stars, one for pleasant staff and one for having a gluten-free menu that my dinner companion was able to review. I don't believe I've seen a restaurant actually do that so good for them. I will not be back to this location. Please do better. read more

I've eaten here in the past. I ALWAYS give this place a 5 star rating but today was different. I just wanted to comment on their shrimp and crab nachos that I ordered. Waitress was great, everything was great...however the shrimp and crab nachos weren't good to me because it tasted like they used imitation crab meat. It was also way more topping than chip. They place the toppings on one chip and I just felt like I was eating the toppings. I would eat here again though because this is one of my favorite restaurants.
