a tray of chicken and rice

I noticed this place awhile ago and thought I needed to try it. Well I tried it. My fiancé ordered a veggie bento and I ordered a teriyaki bento. Meh. I noticed everything came out of a crockpot. The "whole" orders were small portions and 70% rice. The only thing that made the food taste decent was the large variety of sauces the provide. The prices are too high for the quality and quantity that you get. The menu is pretty limited too. I noticed a Keureg coffee maker in the back and no coffee maker anywhere else. So if they are making your coffee with a keureg then you're spending $2.50 for that. Seems a little off Also, if you are environmentally trying to cut down on plastics or non reusable items, then you'll love this place. Styrofoam cups, plastic forks, plastic containers that I'm not sure if they reuse, plastic water bottles, and straws. Won't be back.

    I went here today.

Burgers are especially good, the bacon-bleu burger medium will hit the spot every time, and the garlic fries are delicious if you like garlic. If you don't like garlic, don't bother! The halibut sandwich is also lovely with nice lemony tartar for when it's Friday or when you just want something that swims. Salads are super fresh if you add one, but the portions are large enough that I can't handle burger, fries, salad. Breakfast is also great, but it's not the same "you need to go here for this" that the burgers are, though the hash browns are delightfully crispy! The burgers are worth the trip regardless of where you're going, and my boss swears by the tater tots, but those garlic fries are where it's at. Service is flawless without being intrusive, which is a hard road to hoe, but more importantly nearly every person in the joint, locals to randos, is happy to be there, and that's what a good local restaurant is. It's a place that feels good and makes you happy you ate there. Also, the decor is...well, it's what Applebee's thinks it could be. Except it's real, it's local, and the food is the product of love, not just a product.

When you have family in town for the holidays, you want to take them somewhere that feels welcoming, comfortable, and has good food and this place checked every box. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and genuinely family-friendly, not rushed or chaotic, even with how busy it can get around the holidays. It's the kind of spot where you can actually relax and enjoy your time together. The staff was on top of everything from start to finish. Friendly, attentive, and clearly experienced (I overheard one say she had been working there since before one of the regulars kids were even born, 30 years I believe), they made sure drinks stayed full, orders were correct, and everyone at the table felt taken care of without being overbearing. You can tell the team communicates well and actually cares about the experience they're providing, which makes such a difference, especially when you're hosting guests and want to catch up. The food was excellent, we all had breakfast this time, it was well-prepared, and satisfying across the board. Everyone at our table left happy, full, and smiling. Ichabod's really shines as a community staple--a place that feels like home, except they do the dishes. I have lived in Scappoose for only a few years, but love this place. We have so many memories tied to this restaurant already. When our dog passed and we had no desire to cook, we picked up biscuits and gravy. To the annual catching up session I did in this photo, with some guests. Our date night with my wife. It's nice having a place you can count on to be good everytime. We'll absolutely be back, and always recommending it when people ask what's a good place to eat in Scappoose.

When it came, however, it was incredibly over-salted, I mean to the point where it was inedible (and I actually like salt.) I let the waitress know about the issue and she apologized, advising she would let the kitchen staff know. I suspect it was double salted in error. The potatoes and broccolini served with it were good, but the plentiful carrots that came on the plate were significantly undercooked; you could not put a fork through them even. We had a hot pretzel as an appetizer, and I've gotta say it was fantastic, just phenomenal! It comes with a cheese sauce, which I wasn't really into, but also a grainy mustard to dip in and it was good enough that I would've eaten it without the pretzel, but I didn't want to embarrass myself! One person at our table had the single patty smashburger that came with a ginormous amount of battered fries and he said both the burger and the fries were good. The kids meal ordered (Mac & cheese) was a lot of food and very well-received. We ordered an additional vegetable (broccolini) for the child with us and I was pleased to see that that was just three dollars for a generous portion. We were sitting in a corner and the music was very loud. Loud enough, that I had to go to the car to get the child's headphones for them to wear, and one adult in our party actually put in earplugs. I suspect in a more central location it wouldn't have been as intolerably loud. Prices are average. Our server was very pleasant.

Immaculate atmosphere and the exact sort of thing we were looking for for breakfast. We didn't get her name but saw on the receipt her name might have been Davi, she was such a bundle of light and life, so attentive and kind! She immediately gave us wonderful recommendations which we all adored. The table ordered praline bacon to share (do yourself a favor and get this), one ordered the praline bacon waffle, another ordered the bananas foster waffle, and I got the seasonal vegetable hash. We were all in HEAVEN with what we ordered. From the first bite to the last it we were all absolutely stunned by how delicious and well made everything was. I savored every bite as did my compatriots. One gal ordered a couple things to go for her family (huevos rancheros for the hubby and cinnamon rolls for her kiddos) and our waitress Davi recommended they bring out the cinnamon rolls unfired so that she could pop them in the oven when she got home after a short drive. It was such good attention to detail that felt like such a friendly offer. Absolute superstars, the lot of you.
