Open at 11. Came at 1120. They told me no more boba for now. What!!!! I saw they kept making to go order. Someone probably put a large order. I was upset not be able to try their boba. Otherwise the four season tea was good. Inside is nice and clean. Tables for hanging out. Street parking outside.
We ended up at Formosa Aroma after our original plans for milk tea fell through, and I'm so glad our friends recommended this spot. A special shout-out to Mavis, who was incredibly patient with our indecisive group, especially while we were managing kids. I followed her recommendation and ordered the Iron Buddha Oolong (70% sweet). One sip confirmed it was much too sweet for my taste--honestly, like eating a slice of Costco birthday cake! My friends mentioned that the staff is great about adjustments, so I went back to the counter, and they were more than happy to fix it for me. Lesson learned: I'll definitely be ordering 50% sweetness or less moving forward, as these drinks are quite rich. I would definitely come back to try more of their menu. It's refreshing to visit a business that is truly customer-driven and willing to help you find the perfect drink, even when the initial choice was my own oversight. Been wanting to try this spot and glad we did. Located in a plaza with its own parking lot. Spacious and clean with plenty of seating. The smell of tea is so nice once you enter the door. Server was kind, helpful, and patient (as we were trying to decide what to order) Lots of drink choices and love they have BOGO specials. The names of their drinks are creative and so interesting makes me want to try them all. The drinks we ordered hit the spot, they were good just nothing spectacular. The highlight were the Black Sesame Umeyaki. The outside was crispy and inside was soft and so yummy with the black sesame. It comes in box of 4. The Portuguese egg tarts were delish as well. I will definitely come back and need to get their BOGO deals.
Formosa Aroma in Alhambra is the brand's first and original location. I believe they now have a few storefronts, all within California. They stand out for their very large selection of teas, as well as customizable tea options. I like that they also offer unique house-made toppings like black sweet rice, rose cream foam, and matcha pudding. My go-to drinks are the Hojicha Tiramisu Black Tea Latte and Uji Matcha Latte. The tiramisu layer makes the drink very creamy and rich. It works perfectly with the roasted, nutty hojicha flavor. As for the uji matcha latte, it has a slightly sweet creaminess with just the right ratio of matcha and milk. A nice little perk is that they always have a BOGO free drink deal, which rotates every week. However, every BOGO drink I've tried is pretty basic and nothing special. The drink usually comes with boba as a topping. The boba here isn't the best though. From my experience, the boba tends to stick together and become chunky.
Did you know that Formosa Aroma has weekly buy one get one free deals? I frequent the location in Temple City but sine my husband and I were in the general area, we decided to come to this location on a Saturday afternoon, a little before 1:45 pm. This location is very close to BBQ chicken. We were able to park on the curb. We decided to get the buy one get one free special, which was the Golden Phoenix Oolong Milk Tea, $7.50 prior to tax. We made medications that included no boba, no ice and no sugar. Often times, I like to have my sweetness level at either zero or 25% (or 30% if that is the next lowest the tea shop can go to) sweetness level. My husband and I both thought this drink was good. It was similar to a classic milk tea drink, but a little lighter. Service wasn't as friendly as the location in Temple City and the unisex restroom wasn't as clean either. But overall, we had a good experience. Wait time for our drinks wasn't too long, about 5-6 minutes. I still prefer the Temple City location but would come here if I was in the area. I got pineapple passion fruit Yerba Mate tea. It had a lot of pineapple pieces. It is herbal tea and it tasted like medicine to me but my hubby liked it So he took over my drink and I ordered Oolong milk tea with jelly. I liked it so much better. They have milk alternatives and even different tea types. I also loved the white peach green tea I got the previous visit. It had a nice fragrance. The tea is good here. I mean the actual tea...and they have quite a few tea options ... different oolong and green types. My hubby liked his Matcha pudding milk tea. Not super sweet and the pudding had a good amount of matcha flavor. Service is ok! Not much interaction. Employee seemed tired and not talkative & not smiling. May be it was towards the end of the day or it was not her good day. Place was a bit dirty. Tables didn't get cleaned. Also maybe because it was the end of day. Interior is a little small....not a ton of tables. Looks cool. The neon sign is nice.
Came here while waiting for dimsum and tried out their BOGO deal on the assam milk tea with boba. I got 50% sugar, and it still felt pretty sweet to me. The tea itself was nothing crazy, what you'd expect from a regular black milk tea. Service was pretty quick though despite have a decent number of orders bc of the bogo deal. They also have lots of indoor seating!
Formosa Aroma is a local tea shop with three locations in Alhambra, Temple City, and San Jose as of April 2026. Owner Lucy started as a pharmacist but eventually felt uninspired and ended up getting into the tea shop business. She opened the first brick-and-mortar store at this flagship Alhambra location in 2023. There used to be a Tea Station right next to Formosa Aroma, but the shop closed in 2020 and was replaced with bb.q Chicken Alhambra. [Parking]: There is a free and private indoor parking garage behind the building. [Ambiance & ordering]: Plenty of indoor tables with no outdoor seating. Customers place their orders at the cashier counter. There is one unisex restroom here. It didn't take too long for my drink to be ready. [Menu]: Yelp's top highlighted drinks are Golden Phoenix Oolong, Iron Buddha Milk Tea, and Luye Red Oolong Milk Tea. Customers can also create their own signature drinks by choosing a tea, dairy, and topping(s). *** Golden Phoenix Oolong 100% iced 100% sweet ($6.25 + boba $0.75): At 100% sweetness the drink was too sweet and probably should have stuck with 70%. Not sure why but the drink had a funky aroma that wasn't exactly my cup of tea. The boba were nice and chewy. *** 3-star for the drink with A-tier boba quality, but not good enough to push it up to 4-star.
This place is really good! The menu offers lots of traditional flavors and teas along with many creative pairings like hojicha tiramisu black tea which btw is soooo good! They were able to accommodate a milk allergy in our group by removing the yakult in the peach slush. The lady at the register was very helpful and efficient and the drinks came out quick! We will be back!
Wanted a "dessert" type drink after lunch on a Friday and stopped by here with a friend. Got the black sesame midnight which had black sesame panna cotta, assam milk tea, and black sesame cream foam. I got it 50% sweet and probably could've went with 70% but it was still good. The black sesame flavor is so fragrant in both the panna cotta and cream foam.
The moment you walk into Formosa Aroma, you can smell how fragrant it is. I decided to customize my tea and went with Rooibos Milk Tea that had 50% sugar, oat milk and purple sweet rice for my topping. The tea flavor is a bit on the lighter side and I do wish that the purple rice was sweeter. There was plenty of seating and I liked how they were charged by the tables. The interior is nice and to the left of the register you can see what kinds of teas you can use to customize your drink which was a nice touch. I can see myself coming to Formosa Aroma again whenever I am in the area.
First time trying the Alhambra location! There is one in temple city too! They have aesthetic cups with plastic sealed lids. Their color scheme of navy and gold is really nice. On a Monday early afternoon, four patrons decided to visit Formosa Aroma to take advantage of BOGO offer of boba milk tea at this new Taiwanese bubble tea chain store. Store is clean, modern, and welcoming as it concentrates on showing how real teas are used in their boba milk tea. Service is good. We are greeted upon entering; very busy making drink orders. We order oriental beauty oolong boba milk tea with less sugar and less ice. The boba milk tea is warm on top and sweet syrup is still at the bottom. They choose to use more environmentally friendly cup, the younger patrons commented that they would like to see their tea and boba. Oriental beauty oolong tea is strong, and brings out flavor. However, you need to stir first to mix the sugary syrup. The bobas are soft and warm. I personally love how strong the tea is. The Alhambra location does have shared parking lot in the building.

Finally found something I like from Formosa aroma. Got their Black Sesame Umeyaki (4pcs) + Black Sesame Midnight combo and liked it. Original price is $17.99, but they are running a promotion for $14.99. DRINKS: Alisan Lime Mountain Tea 4.5/5 I can't believe my bf wanted to ordered this again. This time, got it with 100% ice & 100% sugar. It turned out to be good and he liked it. That's the only reason I'm upgrading "drink verdict" or personal rating on this drink. Black Sesame Midnight 4.25/5 Got this along with the Black Sesame Umeyaki. The Black Sesame foam and some sort of pudding (maybe milk?) was sweet. I don't think it was egg pudding. So, it was perfect that I got it at 50% sweet. The milk tea part wasn't sweet and the rest are, so it worked out okay (kinda balance it out). Other notes, I don't like the non dairy creamer aspect. FOOD/SNACKS: Black Sesame Umeyaki 4.5/5 Box of 4. This is actually pretty good. I've tried various egg batter cakes from different places. Generally, I like Taiyaki, but also like Bobacraft's Wheel Cake. Yi Fang's plain or custard filling cakes are okay. Fika Fika Mochi Paws are battered based but with mochi. Overall, this is something I would reorder. Plenty of free parking at the back of the plaza. The store wasn't too busy when we came around lunchtime. There was only a short wait for our drinks. Tables inside were mostly empty and AC was nice and strong. We got the biluochun tea with matcha pudding and golden phoenix milk tea (uses nondairy creamer). Both were half sugar and half ice. Their tea is always on point and tastes very authentic and strong (when you reduce the sugar). read more
Delicious made to order teas and other drinks that are fully customizable. My go to drink is jasmine milk tea with the trifecta , which is their house made taro balls. I love that i can customize sweetness and ice level. What i love is the quality of tea they use. There is a lot of varieties to choose from and they are fragrant. Their service is fast and they are detailed in taking our order. Most people take they drinks and snacks to go, but there is a casual seating area for dine in. read more

I got a custom drink with Dancing Crane Black Tea, oat milk, and Ube taro purée. I asked the staff which teas were the least bitter and they recommended the dancing crane black tea. I was worried it would be bitter as a black tea but with the normal sugar levels, I couldn't taste any bitterness! Plus I get more caffeine than in green tea or oolong. I really enjoyed how light and smooth my drink felt. My drink ended up being just under $9 (mainly because the purée costs extra), which is a pricey for a drink but worth it for a first try. They give you a good amount of purée, which is hard to find even in taro drinks, so I'm glad they offer that add on. read more
I had a really great experience here and thoroughly enjoyed my Jazmine green milk tea with the right amount of Boba. I think there was a perfect rat ratio from drink to Boba and also the perfect ratio from tea to milk. I really enjoyed the two of the Boba and this was a great "pick me up" from a long day that I had. The two employees that I interacted with were very patient with me and had a lot of knowledge on the different teas and had great customer service , very friendly and happy! read more

If you like refreshing drinks that aren't overly heavy, the calamansi basil seed wintermelon here is a must-try. It's the perfect balance of flavors -- their wintermelon is already sweet so I always do zero sugar with grass jelly, the calamansi adds a bright citrusy kick that keeps it super refreshing. Artisan looking tea shop that feels super premium on the surface but the drinks didn't live up to the vibe. Literally just tasted like milk with a splash of tea. Super disappointing for a place that clearly puts effort into presentation and tea sourcing. Felt totally unbalanced. Fruity one was better. Refreshing and had fun textures with the fruit bits, but still not enough to carry the experience. The space looks cool and there's a whole display of teas and leaves, so it really seems like you're in for something special. I was hanging out with friends and we decided to come here. The inside has ample seating with a clean, modern look. On a Sunday evening, there were quite a few parties of guests hanging around. There's a parking lot two blocks down and street parking nearby. The staff were chill. I didn't really interact with them other than ordering. My drink did come out within 5-10 minutes of ordering, though. Their drinks are very authentic. There was a variety of teas and milk teas to order. The drink that I ordered, Rose Cream Ruby Black Milk Tea with boba, was delicious. I took off the lid to sip some of the rose cream and it was pleasantly fragrant and floral. I'd definitely recommend taking your usual sugar level down a step or two, as they make their drinks really sweet. I ordered mine 75% sugar and it tasted like 100%. Their drinks are on the more expensive side, although nowadays most boba places are around the same price ($6-8). I would absolutely recommend coming here if you're looking for authentic Taiwanese boba with traditional tea flavors! read more

This spot has solid boba drinks, especially if you enjoy strong tea flavors. The weekly BOGO deals caught my attention and drove me to check it out. I tried the Dew of Alisan Boba Milk Tea, which was on the sweeter side, but I appreciated the variety of milk options. I tried one with non-dairy creamer and another with almond milk, and I definitely preferred the non-dairy creamer. The boba was chewy and soft, the tea was strong. Stumbled upon this spot because it was the only boba shop nearby that closed late (10pm on weekday). And I'm so glad we did! I order the pouchang green milk tea and the pomelo sago. Both were very delicious. It is a bit on the sweet side so I'm glad I lowered my sugar level. The pomelo sago is perfect for a sweet dessert and their green tea was great for a refreshing drink. Their service is great, and very helpful. There are also plenty of seats inside to hang out. We also tried their pastry cake. It was soft warm and sweet. It does not have any filling. I can taste the aroma of the tea and this is important to me. My usual here is the golden Phoenix oolong with either boba, grass jelly, or taro balls depending on mood. While the tea flavor is strong which I love, I do wish they had more flavorful sugarfree options such as with monk fruit or stevia. Stumbled upon this boba place while visiting Alhambra. They have a variety of boba drinks and we ended up ordering 2 creme brulee' milk teas. The presentation was nice especially when they torched the top cream. This is not your usual sweet boba milk tea as I can tell they use purely brewed tea. It had a strong taste and less sweeter than most boba tea. The lady was kind enough to adjust the sweetness to our liking. Sure enough, the caffeine in the boba tea kicked in and I couldn't sleep til 3am! This is good if you need energy. The place is small, clean, and the male cashier had great customer service skills. I'll be back here again but I don't think I'll get the creme brulee boba again. read more
Parking was kinda hard so we had to do street parking, but luckily it was at night so it wasn't too bad. Just beware it's gonna be hard. The inside is decorated nicely with warm lighting and lots of tables along with an assortment of drinks to choose from. My boyfriend got the Golden Phoenix Oolong w toppings ($6.25) and I got the Formosa Ocean ($7.50). Honestly, I knew the drink was going to taste like butterfly pea since that's what is used to achieve the color and just liked the aesthetics, but I was still disappointed anyhow that it didn't taste good. This is a great study space!!! Really appreciate the outlets and extension cords. Not many places have outlets at every table. Crowds came and go. Typically after lunch like 1-2 will be really busy. There are plenty of seats despite the space being pretty small. They lined the little hall way to the bathroom with about 4-5 tables and more big tables in the front. Strange sounds coming from the bathroom. Maybe they're fixing it? Great tea smell coming from the kitchen so maybe they fresh brew their teas. I tried the grapefruit brûlée tea. The tea taste is SOOOOO strong. Probably the strongest tea taste I've tasted at any of these boba places. They brûléed the top of the half grapefruit that they stick at the top of the cup. 10/10 on tea taste and interior. Will definitely be coming back. Drinks are priced about $6-8 pretty typical these days with crazy inflation. Not that cheap. Saw they do have some discount on fantuan app though. Good natural light coming from the front windows and also lighting inside. Perfect place to study. Pretty noisy during busy times though. There is free wifi, good AC for the hot days, and free parking in the back. Enter through the side streets to the parking garage. During Alhambra farmer's market parking can get pretty packed though. Try to avoid Main Street though. read more

Parking is located in the back inside the building. There's 6 two seater tables and 2 four seaters table. There's wifi and restroom here. 3-4 of the tables has outlets as well so it's a good study spot. The workers are friendly and helpful. They would give recommendations about what to adjust sweetness level to. I ordered the Pink Guava Lime Green Tea. It was very refreshing today since it was a hot day. The guava taste is very strong. Don't taste the lime as much but the drink was good. I would get again. read more

We went to Formosa Aroma to try the drinks because they looked very good and we had seen videos online raving about this place. The space was very cute and clean. It was super busy and the wait was very long and the staff was friendly and helpful towards any questions that we had. Hits: * Mango Pomelo Sago: is very fun drink, it's like a mango icy drink with chewable small bites with mango and grapefruit. I did think the drink itself was kind of sweet even with the sugar level adjusted. * Grapefruit Orange Green Tea: is super refreshing and not overly sweet. Miss: * Tiramisu Milk Tea: is kind of too bitter for my liking. The tea is strong but too bitter to enjoy. Final Verdict: Solid 3.8/5. It's a cute store to stop by to try some drinks especially on a warm day if you don't mind the long wait. read more

Such an unsuspecting shop! Inside has a nice ambience and a good amount of seating for a quick stop for drinks. Parking is in a structure that can get busy and crowded, depending on the day and time you go. Service was decent and not too much of a wait. Got the White Peach Ice Tea (70% sweetness, regular ice). This was perfect on a hot day, so refreshing and light. The peach is fragrant and perfectly balanced with the tea. Definitely recommend! Overall, this is a great boba shop! Their teas are strong and fragrant for a fair price. There is a wide selection of quality teas that you're bound to find something for you. It's been a while since I've been to this boba place. I was initially attracted by the BOGO deals that they had and decide to give it a try. I forgot what drink I ordered but I normally get less sugar, less ice. I have been quite impressed how I was able to taste the tea despite how little sugar that I requested in the milk tea. The boba has the nice warm, chewy texture that I was looking for. I'm actually surprised how empty this place is given the quality of the drinks that they have. But yes, compared to other places nearby that are selling $8-9 for boba, I'll rather come back here read more

As soon as you open the door. The sweet aroma is punching your nose and it's a pleasantly sweet but soft. The place is loud. A group of adults 10-12 peeps keep talking louder abd louder. Gosh. This boba cafe is very warm toned and cozy when it comes to decor. Not only that, but there was a restroom as well. Our order came pretty quickly, and it tasted amazing. You could tell the toppings were fresh, and the drinks weren't overwhelmingly sweet. read more

We came here to get some tea to drink. There is some parking on the street right outside the store if you're lucky. Plenty of tables inside and some tables have outlets to charge your electronics. We got the Formosa Ocean, Jinxuan Mountain Tea, and Umeyaki. The Formosa Ocean is so colorful and refreshing. The Jinxuan Mountain Tea at 100% sweet is not too sweet in my opinion. There is a few ice options...I chose 50% (otherwise it would be no ice); it filled up half the cup...Just go with no ice next time! read more

I have been coming here for multiple times for their drinks and so far I love it! It is a small place for a boba shop but it is a pretty good place to chill when the place is not crowded. The servers are very nice and patient when you are ordering your drinks. The place in general are clean, even with the restroom. The drinks are fantastic in my opinion, no matter what sweetness level you are going for. My personal favorite/ to-go are the rose cream foam milk tea or formosa ocean. Trust me, I think you will like them if you are a sweet tooth-er or Rose lover. (Good looking drinks for pictures too!) Try their origanal flavored Formosa Umeyaki too! They are not only pretty for pictures, but crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside, specifically when they are freshly made. Great desserts matching with your drinks! read more
My family and I shared a Matcha Pudding Milk Tea, Matcha Typhoon, Sesame Typhoon, and Oriental Beauty with Sea Salt Cheese Foam. The wait was quite long and it took us 30+ minutes to order and get our drinks at around 9pm. The cashier taking our order was super helpful at answering our questions (1st time there) especially our allergy related questions and recommendation questions. All the drinks tasted very high quality (the price reflects this). There were a ton of options and different adjustments you could make with many different tea flavors as well as descriptions on their flavor which as a tea lover was really cool. My favorite was the Matcha Typhoon which was a thinker matcha drink, but what I really like was that you could taste the matcha as well as a tea flavor which was unique and a nice was to cut through the sweetness. The Matcha Pudding drink was my next favorite although the matcha flavor came solely from the pudding (at the bottom of the drink) and overall didn't have much matcha flavor. The Sesame Typhoon was rich and smooth and thick. Some places use peanut related products to get the sesame flavor. I have nut allergies and was happy to learn that they only use sesame which gave it a nice nutty creamy flavor. The Oriental Beauty with sea salt cheese foam was very nice quality. It was oolong based which isn't usually my favorite, but it was still good. The space had a good amount of seating, but was quite busy and a bit chaotic. Overall, the drinks were super high quality. Clearly their tea quality and selection is what sets them apart. Would definitely come back to try more of their simpler tea flavors! read more
The second you walk in there is a strong whiff of a nostalgic boba shop smell that only those who know understand what this smell is. Cute and modern interior. Great for a first date, who will say no to a boba date? Formosa Umeyaki -similar to taiyaki except in the shape of a flower. For $6.49 and no filling, I'm not sure if the price is justified. 1 of the 4 came out hallow as well. Golden Phoenix Milk Tea -tea has some depth that paired well with the creamy creamer. Regular sweetness is extremely sweet. I would personally order this at quarter sweetness. Matcha Black Sweet Rice Yogurt Smoothie -consistency was good, not too thick. Black sweet rice adds the right amount of texture. Really good, would order again. read more
Cute little boba tea shop that offers premium quality teas and situated next door to Lunasia dim sum restaurant. Light wood flooring/furnashing and white color scheme compliments space well. Seats have usb power plugs for you to charge your laptop or portable devices. Also, clean restroom. Ordered mango pomelo sago with 50% sweetness. So refreshing, it had small bits of mango and grapefruit. Perfect balance of fruitiness without being too tangy. Sago goes down easy, no chewing needed. Also tried their grapefruit orange green tea, another terrific drink. All in all - great addition to Alhambra and worthy of another visit soon. read more
The drinks here are so pretty and tasty. I have been wanting to try this place since so many people have told me this is their go place for boba. After going, I can see why it is. The boba tastes great. Nice, bouncy, and chewy. The drinks are good and you can really taste the tea. The thing I love the most here is their black sesame cream foam! That is delicious. I would be back just to add that on all my drinks. The girl at the counter was really nice and helpful. She was able to customize my drink and recommend what would be too sweet. She was right on. This and the temple city location are both GREAT! Though I'd say temple city tends to be louder. Anyway, highly highly recommend the four seasons tea, but everything on their menu is good. THIS is what ''milk tea" SHOULD be. Formosa aroma has the strongest tea I've ever had and as I'm writing this from the bay area, I miss it like every (other) day. Oh gosh, this place has been on my mind since I had it. Let me say not a lot of tea shops have four season tea- they have so many other options as well and topping. Tea is always consistent.. the tea is teaing here & always enjoy my drink. I walk out with usually 2 for myself . boba & jellies are so delicious.., Theres parking in the front if you're lucky, if not theres a lot in the back. read more

Can we bring our dogs in and sit there inside?
I would assume no, unless they're a service dog. I don't think pets are usually allowed indoors and there's no outdoor patio here.
Would anyone recommend this spot to study/get work done?
There are a few tables there that you can sit at and have ports so you can charge your laptop or phone so I'm guessing they had in mind when they first made the place. Also offer free wifi as well
