UG is having a collab with Head in the Clouds and is offering sticker sheets if you order the hojicha latte as a combo (2 hojicha lattes + sticker sheet) for $13.99. I decided to check out UG Tea (Unique Green) to see how it compares to other popular tea chains. Interestingly, while I wasn't as familiar with them from Taiwan compared to established spots like DeCheng Oolong tea project or Wushiland (50 Lan), UG Tea is actually a newer concept launched by the Sharetea group featuring AI-brewed tea. We ordered Camellia Milk Tea with Honey Boba. This one fell flat for me. The floral tea base was fairly average, lacking a deep, aromatic tea flavor. The honey boba didn't pair particularly well with the floral notes of the camellia, making the overall drink feel a bit weird. We also had Next Level Matcha Latte. This was much better and definitely the highlight of the visit. The matcha flavor was rich, earthy, and smooth but a bit overly sweet even with 30% sugar. However, It is still more superior compared to the milk tea. Overall, it's a sleek spot with cool branding, but the milk tea quality didn't leave a strong impression. In fact, I couldn't really taste the matcha at all. I was expecting high quality matcha since I read a lot of good reviews about their matcha but it didn't seem too exceptional. Because I live in the Bay Area, any drink place from SoCal that opens up there is super packed and chaotic. Finally had a chance to try UG Tea after hearing good things about it! I ordered the Camellia Oolong Milk Tea (100% sugar, no ice) through the Fantuan app. When I came to pick it up, they have their own dedicated parking lot, so there was lots of parking spaces which is a plus! I can't speak for the ambiance since I didn't stay long, but the interior was very spacious and clean! I liked the green aesthetic. It's SHINY! The floors sparkled. The music also felt very fun. When I'd arrived, it was fairly empty, so the place felt very spacious. I also really enjoyed all the plush cushion seating. However, UG Tea (San Gabriel) is not an ideal study/work spot. I found about one easily accessible electrical outlet. Ugh... Not going to lie, I prefer this place much more over Molly Tea. Tea flavor is more fragrant and apparent. The creaminess and sugar level is perfect. (i get 100% sugar even though the default is 30%, even then it's not super sweet). To me, Molly Tea tastes too watery and bland and they only have one standard cup size that I don't think its worth the price. This is now my favorite spot for a nice, fragrant Jasmine or Camellia milk tea. Love!! Place is also super cool and like an art exhibit. They also have one of the best "reusable" carry out bags that come with your drink if you order online or request a bag. Sealable bag, with handles, solid design, and good material. Y2K hellscape. Just kidding! But if you're into that aesthetic, this is a great place to do take photos and do a photoshoot and maybe pay $13 for their photobooth. When I visited, there were a lot of older folks there (mid day on a weekday) and they were just hanging out, which was okay too. Some had their sandals off though...LOL. PRO-TIP: I think you can get a free drink if you order ahead. They had a sign advertising that near the door, I believe. Months ago before they opened, my friends and I saw the sign on the side of the building advertising UG and knew we had to try since another contender entered the boba gauntlet on this street (crazy competition I can't imagine). After the hype died down and going at a very strange time, I actually bumped into my friend here hilariously enough. Since it's UG Tea, aka Unique Green Tea, I felt like you had to get something "green" to really see what they're all about, I mean it's in the name. We all got the Next Level Matcha Latte. It's a creamy matcha smoothy with some cheese to add a bit of savoriness to it. It's alright, but nothing that can compare to the heavy hitters that are taking over the boba scene in SoCal, or even just up and down this street if you think about it. Think of a light cheese milk drink with a very subtle taste of matcha. You're not going to get something on Yamari level, but I expected a little bit more out of a place with green in the name and this being a "green" drink. Or maybe that wasn't the theme or intention of the business and the green was about restoring green spaces in the world (they do plant a tree for x number of drinks purchased which is pretty neat). I'd put this drink on a mid tier common tea franchise level and not something where SoCal only has one thus far. Like with Guiji, maybe I ordered the wrong thing or what they're not really known for? I don't mind giving them one more chance to see what sets them apart. read more

There's so many boba shops in SGV! And of course I am on a mission to try them all! I went here the other day, and tried a blue smoothie. It was delicious. They do take a long time make the drinks.
