There are cushioned bench seating areas and while overall it's a small shop, it's a decent place to study. I don't see outlets though. A few of the male staff members have been respectful, but every time I walk in, the atmosphere feels awkward--more like a group of young friends hanging out than employees focused on customer service. My main concern is from my visit on July 10 at 9:42 PM (Order #294). According to my receipt, the employee helping me was Jenny C. When I walked in, I wasn't greeted. I spent a minute looking at the menu while Jenny C stood there texting and eating French fries. When I was ready to order, she told me to use the kiosk. I asked, "I can't order with you?" She reluctantly took my order, but continued eating while I was speaking. I ordered two drinks, read everything slowly, and still had to repeat myself. After taking my order, she simply walked away, and I had to grab my own receipt. While waiting, I overheard another employee tell Jenny C to go make my drinks. When she finally did, one of the cups had osmanthus rice mochi smeared on the outside, which should have been cleaned before being handed to a customer. Management should review this transaction using the date, time, and order number above. This wasn't professional and reflected someone who clearly didn't want to be there. Whether it's a training or management issue, something needs to improve. I was actually planning to meet a friend here next week, but after this experience, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. The lot itself doesn't really have enough parking spots available for the 4 or 5 businesses that are in this little plaza. My husband and I have been to the location in Arcadia a few times and decided to check out this location since we were in the area. We came here last Saturday night and ordered our drinks at the kiosk (not sure if you are order with an employee or not, but the 2 employees we saw behind the counter seemed busy working on drinks, since their backs were towards us). We ended up ordering: Purple Rice Drink, $5.95- My husband ordered this drink to be made with no ice and 25% sweetener. I didn't have any but he thought it was just fine and enjoyed it. But the size was rather small. Osmanthus Rice Milk Tea $6.75 + Large Size $0.75- I ordered this drink to be made with no ice and 25% sweetener. I was disappointed with this drink because the tea was overstepped. Quite a shame because that bitter taste lingered and had a weird after taste with the osmanthus (which is a flower). But the osmanthus flavor seemed a little artificial (I really like osmanthus and usually like to order it at tea houses so I am familiar with the taste). This drink did not taste good. ----------------------------- (Total= $13.45) Wait time was a little after 10 minutes. There wasn't really much interaction with the employees. The staff just placed our drink on the counter and called out the drink order number and then my husband walked up to the counter to get it. You had to get your own straw, which is right by the area where you pick up the drinks. I came on a Sunday evening and the shop was pretty empty. The staff seemed to be working on a few orders for food apps though. I'm not sure if the people working that day were new, but that was kind of the vibe I got based on my experience. I ordered a Osmathus Rice Mochi Frost using the tablet near the counter, and then sat down to wait for my order. Quite some time passed, and I noticed people that came after me were getting their orders. I went up to the counter to ask about mine, and the worker seemed confused and said it'll be a moment. I sat back down, and shortly after got a notification that the table I was waiting for at a nearby restaurant was ready. I went back to the counter to check on my order, and that's when one of the staff members told me that it'll be 10 more minutes because they ran out of something. At that point I told them I needed to leave, and they offered to make me another drink. I said ok, whatever you can make fast - so they whipped up a osmanthus rice milk tea pretty quickly. The drink itself was surprisingly good! Smooth, flavorful and fragrant, and the little bits of rice added a pleasant texture to the drink. It was a bit too sweet for my liking because they made it at 100%, I would choose 50% next time. I felt the urge to scream in joy bubble up as I sip. "SO GOOD!!" Regarding ambiance, Ben Gong's Tea (San Gabriel) is very clean and attractive. It's a pretty, calming spot. There's six tables and one long counter; there's even an outside patio with extra seating. However, there's ZERO electrical outlets for customers. There's none inside, and the outside outlets by the patio do not work. Still, Ben Gong's Tea (San Gabriel) has utility. There's customer internet with password; the details are written on a tiny paper taped onto the counter's register. There's also a game station (ex: Monopoly, Jenga, Uno, Etc.) for customers! The location also has a gender neutral restroom. And the music is fun & upbeat! Overall, I had a phenomenal experience at Ben Gong's Tea (San Gabriel). I ordered the Peach Oolong Milk Tea with Cream Top. Actually tried it twice at 50% and 75% sweetness. I usually get 50% at most places but recommend 75% for this particular drink to get a good balance of sweetness and the taste of the tea. I got their tiramisu and the brown sugar milk tea since they had a buy 2 for $8.80 during Thanksgiving week. It is hard to find because the store name is large print in Chinese but small letters it says, "BenGong's Tea". There is plenty of parking once you pass the building, turn into the parking lot from the side entrance. What makes this place exceptionally good is their use of actual tea that is fresh ground, made and served. We bought 5 teas and will rate them in order with 1 as the least and 10 as the best. 1). Mango Pomelo Slush (no tea but made with Coconut Milk and a little milk for the topping). No changes are allowed on this drink. Rate it an 8.5 2). Burnt Brown Sugar Boba Milk we adjusted it to 50% and we should have left it at 100% because this place makes their teas not too sweet. Rate it a 6 because we adjusted it, I am sure if we left it alone it would be an 8 as well. 3). Mango Mochi Slush at 50% sugar rate it an 8-9 very good. 4). Black Rice Milk Tea adjusted sugar to 30% it was good, but I should also have left it alone as is. We tried their Ube and Pandan cookie for $4.50 and they were deliciously soft and tasty. The space here is a clean and classy meat up for 2-3 friends and not so much of a study area. It gets very busy as we heard the constant pinging of orders coming in. I love trying new boba shops so I was excited for this one! We ordered two special boba milk tea, peach oolong milk tea, and purple rice/taro milk tea. Even with 25% sugar, it was still really sweet for us. The purple rice/taro milk tea tasted like sweet milk. There wasn't any strong tea flavor from any of the other drinks either, so it didn't suit our taste. We ordered ahead online so the service was quick. I drove past the area tonight so decided to give this place a try. There are street parking in the front and a shared parking lot with a couple other businesses in the back. I would say there's at least 15-20 available in the whole park in the back. I went at night when it was about to close and it was quiet at that time so not sure how busy it is during the day. When I walked in, a lady server greeted me and directed me to the front counter to order my drink. Then a guy names Wei came and assisted me. I asked him for his recommendation on milk tea and he provided some information. So far so good until I asked about boba. The lady server said they are out of boba. I asked him what other toppings they have and she named some. The guy server named Wei that was taking my order showed me on the screen. I asked him again if the brown sugar boba is out and he said they are out of all bobas. I asked crystal boba? And he said they are just out of boba. I was thinking "do you even know what you are talking about" because the things he said was confusing and he sounded impatient when all I asked was to make sure the boba part. He doesn't speak clearly and he started getting impatient and speaking fast. That killed the whole experience. I ordered a peach oolong milk tea with crystal boba and it was pretty good. Overall experience ca be better - can be 4 star ( an above average boba shop ) but sorry your customer service especially the guy server named Wei needs to improve because he affected your business and this is unacceptable because it wasn't even a difficult question to answer. 3 star for overall experience mainly due to customer service. read more

We just needed to grab a boba before leaving the area, but this was such a find! We got the Osmanthus Rice Milk Tea, and we really grew to love it with each progressive sip. We've found that we enjoy osmanthus's subtle flavor, so we weren't shocked by that, but we were surprised to find how much we liked the rice bits! The employee was very helpful and explained that they don't have a green tea based milk tea with the tea jelly cube, but I can make replacements. When we got there we missed the red flag where there only two people working with a full house of waiting customers, and they looked confused about the orders. Waited 45 minutes before I realized it was a scam. A lady before us finally snapped and demanded a refund but they refused. She rightfully started arguing because she had waited more that 45 minutes. The staff didn't give a reason as to why they couldn't refund her and it escalated until the staff started yelling at her. Suddenly three more from the back came out to help yell at her. Where were they this whole time instead of helping the two in the front not doing anything? They immediately started working on the lady's drink and when she got it she asked where the other one was. The guy rolled his eyes and said "you should have told me that before" What is this level of service? Are they trained to be hostile to customers that have been waiting without complaint for 45 minutes? After the lady got her drinks, the three workers from the back disappeared and they went back to having two confused workers preparing the orders. Another customer that had only ordered ten minutes prior walked up and they started working on their order immediately. It seems like there is no system in place for organizing orders. When we finally gave up after 45 minutes and asked for our they completed our order in less than three minutes. We had to convey our order to them because they no longer kept track of orders that were placed in the system. We would have gotten away with a more expensive order if we had just told them it was something else. Another customer was fed up and started telling new customers to just leave because they had been waiting for a long time. All while this was happening they continued to take on orders they couldn't keep track of and fulfill. At the very least they could've have paused orders or at the very least warned everyone of the incompetent system they have in place. In my many years of trying new boba shops, this is strongest first impression I've had. I would not recommend this place and I don't think I have the stomach to give it a second chance. There is a self-serve kiosk to place your order that has 100% customizable options (including sweetness, ice, and add-ons). I landed on the Mango Pomelo Sago and Strawberry Mochi Frost, since they were both listed as signature drinks. Both were equally delicious and refreshing. If I had to choose, I would go with the Strawberry Mochi Frost, since it was unique and unlike something I've had before. The mochi was in a liquid form and blended nicely with the strawberry purée. Since I have a bit of a sweet tooth, I opted for 100% sweetness, but I would say it is definitely not overly sweet at all. It would probably even register as "light" for the American palate. I tried their Mango Mochi Frost and it was so good! They cut the mango into small pieces and they had tangy flavor. Mochi was soft and sweet. This drink was refreshing with creamy and sweet flavors. My favorite mochi drink. Also got their Special boba milk tea which was really good as well. The staff recommended this and they were right about that drink being popular there. Boba milk tea had bold tea flavor and it must be made with really good tea leaves ; I can tell by comparing this place to other boba shops. Their boba was sweet and chewy just that way I like. This is a good place to drink boba milk tea in SGV area. Inside is nice, clean, and cozy with cool decorations that stand out from other boba shops. I still love this place. I think their teas are nice, fragrant, strong and you taste it even in milk teas. HOWEVER this is just a warning that their Peach Oolong Milk Tea COMES WITH BARLEY POPPING BOBA!!! Cream top or not, it'll come with barley popping boba. NOWHERE IN THE MENU/NAME DOES IT SAY THAT!!! "Peach oolong milk tea" no boba in the name and especially no barley in the name. This can be dangerous for anyone gluten free or with allergies. Flavor and texture wise I hated it. I've since ordered the peach oolong again but make sure to say no topping ... but sometimes they forget (but are nice and will remake it). It just seems like it'd be easier for everyone to let people know that the drink will have a topping inside or to get rid of the topping as a default option. The tea by itself is nice! The barley boba is horrible. Dense like dough but also pops?? No thank you!! Make sure you order it without the topping. Also they really need to update their menu because the Lychee Tea Latte is all over the menu/tv advertising but they haven't had it in about a month and don't have signs saying that. I will say the workers are super kind and will remake the drink if it comes with the topping when I didn't want it. I just think there's a more efficient way to go about this (aka get rid of topping being the default) read more

The drinks here are good and I want to try more! I tried their mango mochi and mango pomelo sago so far. I like the mango pomelo sago a bit more but both are refreshing and well balanced.
